Thankyou so so much. Before this video, I was loosing my head before finding this. (4 hrs without any joy) but after this video, I built it in 1hr 15 mins
Spent some time tonight building the transmission for my Grand Hauler. Never used the book at all, just watched and paused this video. Much better watching this to build the transmission!! Kudos to you Bob for all these informative vids you post !!
I love your build videos Bob! So happy to see you posting again! I built a Rally Beetle last year and your videos were very helpful. Particularly the videos about how to organize the parts by type in muffin pans (I used old egg crates), reading the entire build manual prior to starting and the tips and trick on painting. I love that little RC car and it makes everyone smile when they see it.
The more videos I watch of yours, the more I appreciate the work you put in. This was brilliant. I bought my truck used, the guy never finished it and never had it running. This is my first 1/14 truck so it's all new to me, but the transmission felt odd. So I stripped it out and opened the case. Turns out it was put together wrong, and a spring was missing. I replaced the bearings and installed a Carson Poison motor while it was apart. Now after watching this video I'm thinking that brass bush might be the wrong way round, and I know I didn't glue the bearing in.
Thanks from Norm,I’m a first time builder with a king hauler your vocal and presentation is a great help for me,I get a bit worried when I did the servos ,I obviously haven’t got your testers so don’t know if they are set up correctly.heres hoping
Wow I wish I had found your channel before I made my Tamiya Scanis R620 6x4 truck. The ttramsmission gave me some issues. I managed to fix them, but still not 100% happy with it. And like you say here, it would be a lot of work to take it out and start again! Like your builds, keep them coming!
Hi Bob great video. I couldn't see the ball-screw on my tablet in detail, but I think it's one of those Tamiya uses on many of their buggies where you can adjust the wheels. I use some 4 mm for our bird's doner. So if you find a buggy with this ball ends, find out the bag and you can order it. Bags are mostly cheaper than separate screws. If I find more informations I'll let you know.
That was so smooth when you tried it out. I just built my first one but it really loud and seems rough but I’m not sure what I did wrong. I’m building a ford Aeromax
Thankya for sharing the video! Ive got it saved for future reference. . . . .10-4👍🏼. I like the picture of the lady in the baground. She looks like my gramma Milton who 28 yrs ago!
I really enjoy your build videos and your explanations. Talk about a dream job! As for me, I supervise technicians who repair and maintain light rail trains in the Los Angeles area, so that is also a dream job. Hope to see more videos! Really need more info on the MFC as far as getting the radio to work with the remote support legs.
As far as the pinion spacing, I had a tech show me to use the receipt paper from the sale. He stated that after placing it in the gear path, it should not tear with a firm pull to extract it.
Hello. If I understand correctly, the 55 motor is able to pull more cargo and consume less energy compared to the standard 27 motor? And he can also drive more carefully in hard-to-reach places and he has a lower maximum speed?
Great video. I have a question for you. Are you familiar with the Tamiya Toyota Hilux 3-speed 4 wheel drive transmission? I was hoping to replace my gears in that transmission with the aftermarket brass or metal gears for these transmissions. I'm hoping to be able to run a brushless motor in my toyota Hilux and not ruin the gears. I'm not looking for extra speed, just a smooth running trail truck that I can enjoy.
I know you tell it like it is and I respect that I mitt I need help with building the truck I know according to your speech you saying there’s no room for margin of error
bob i have assembled and reassembled my tamiya transmission several times because im getting slippage especially going into 1st gear. i have watched your video many times and the instructions many times and still having that problem. yes it is greased well but sometimes i hear the transmission and shaft sopinning but the wheels dont spin. ive checked the driveshaft and no help. would metal shift gears help or is there a good replacement for that transmission. it seems like it not shifting totally
Great video! I have a used King hauler I'm going thru and rebuilding . I purchased a yeah racing 55T motor however I am confused on the pinion gear. The manual has 2 options 10 and 13 tooth pinion. Which do I buy? Also I got the MFC-01 but missing the vibration box can I buy that separately? Thanks again for the great videos! I subscribed!!
On the slider the bearings not only rotate but slide on the shaft. On some kits Tamiya says not to replace them with ball bearings and on other kits they do not. I personally always replace the bushings with ball bearings and grease the shaft in this area. Modern ball bearings slide back and forth fine, I have built literally hundreds of transmissions with no problems.
Sometimes I paint them to match the trucks. Also Tamiya offers an Aluminum Plated version that is really nice. hobbyconcepts.net/products/matte-plated-gearbox-for-tractor-truck?_pos=1&_sid=a82a7f35d&_ss=r
Hello Bob, I watched this video as I was building my transmission. I ran it with a D battery as you demonstrated and had no issues. 1st gear to 2nd gear works perfectly, the problem I have is when I shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, I hear a sound like the gears are not meshing fully. Could this be in the transmission or in the differentials? I am thinking that I may not put enough CA on the bearing that is glued in. I would like any info you or others have that may have experienced this.
If you run it with the case off you should be able to see what is happening. I doubt it is the bearings. If you are talking about it installed in a truck most likely it is a shift servo adjustment.

Brushless is 'overkill' in these trucks, that are not supposed to move at any high speeds. Also not got the natural 'built in' breaking resistane as the brushed motors, down hill. Maybe workable with an advance ESC. Anyway, brushless as good as not used in these trucks. Maybe by someone that just want to have some fun, drive a rc truck like a race car. Which one naturally are free to do, I don't mind)
My shift shaft in my King Hauler Black Edition is not like yours. It doesn't have the short spring, washer and E clip that you refer to as the hardest to install. The shift fork just slides on then a long spring.
On can naturally, but it is very seldom used, as the brushed motors have no problem giving the power and speed needed to operate the trucks 'to scale'. The electronic units made specially for rc truck like these, containing both ESC, lights, sound, are only prepared for brushed motors. Some will use brushless motors, just for fun to drive them on a racetrack, use a one speed planetary transmission able to deal with the power and rpm
Yes, all Tamiya truck transmissions. The Euro trucks have an additional post on the end of the transmission case but all the gears etc. are the same. All motors work. I generally iuse a 55 turn or so.
@@nsvaluto48328 They are standard 540 size. Many use 70-80 turn motors too. The point is to get something slower reving than the original racecar motor in the Tamiya kits

I did not skip any second in this whole video.👍👍👍
Thanks for doing these videos Bob. I have learned so much from you! Keep it up.

If it's rough something is wrong. Maybe motor pinion to tight?

I have done it but frankly the stock gears and transmissions have never given me any problems.

On my personal trucks I often leave the vibration motor out, many builders do. They tend to shake the trucks apart.
Hi Bob - Can you please put a link for the motor you recommended over the stock one?
Is the globe liner the newer style or older style. My only experience was with the Cascadia Evolution
Older
Great vid. My 770 manual says do not replace with ball bearings but you do. Any issues replacing and why might Tamiya state this?

Im building a Heavy hauler, there is a kit online that replace all the plastic gears with a brass. Do you think this upgrade is worth it? Thank you.
I don't think it is worth it. I have done a couple but have never had the stock gears break ever, so not really needed in my opinion.
Hi Bob. Do you paint gearbox covers and, if so, what colour works best for you?
Thanks
Ray

Do you paint the kits before selling them?
I'm a bit of a motor snob, so I'm curious. Have you ever had the chance to go with a brushless motor?

Will the 55 turn motor run ok with the Multi function control unit or do I need to run the standard motor (rooster )
Yes, work great!
My shift shaft in my King Hauler Black Edition is not like yours. It doesn't have the short spring, washer and E clip that you refer to as the hardest to install. The shift fork just slides on then a long spring.
Yes, the Globe Liner and King Hauler come with the older style shift shaft. Works the same way just buiklds a bit differently.
@@HobbyconceptsLLC Dummy me didn't see the bit at the end where you showed the difference.
Can you use a brushless motor?? If so which set with Esc is best??

And I noticed your turn easily on dime when you turn yours by hand but my was hard turn by hands?
Question : does the truck transmissions and high lift have the same internals?
They do not.
Hiya Bob. I've noticed in the past you fully greased diff' and planet gears. So why only put a smile of grease to shafts and gears
In the tranmission there is more high rev gears than in the diff and similar. Too much loss of power if one grease up to much
Can you post links to the correct sized bearings?
hobbyconcepts.net/products/tamiya-1-14-rc-sealed-ball-bearing-set-semi-trucks?_pos=1&_sid=eec4d1c43&_ss=r
Can you use grease axel for the gears and transmission?
No, use a lighter weight grease like Tamiya ceramic grease or similar.
will video work for euro truck kits also what is upgraded motor size and turns?
Yes, all Tamiya truck transmissions. The Euro trucks have an additional post on the end of the transmission case but all the gears etc. are the same. All motors work. I generally iuse a 55 turn or so.
