Just re-watched Fat City last night. Such an incredible character-driven piece. Hall was the right cinematographer for the job. Stockton California never looked so bleak!

I love the photography in Road To Perdition, especially the rain scenes and how the light hits through the rain through the environment and onto the actors, which makes a very beautiful sequence.

I do have to agree with others about Road To Perdition being one of the most gorgeously photographed movies of all time.
He might not have planned on checking out immediately after, but can anyone imagine a better "mic drop" for Conrad Hall?

Hall cried when shooting Paul Newman's scene in Road to Perdition. He was overwhelmed with memories of their earlier collaborations since thirty years prior.

I just discovered Hall's brilliance by watching "Tell Them Willie Boy's Here" for the first time on May 15, 2024. I keep rewinding the opening scene from the moment Blake is dangling from the side of a moving train and aerobatically jumping off and rolling perfectly to a standing walking transistion, all on a slope. Hall times this to perfection by simultaneously capturing the train churning away on a curb with the mountain range in the vista and the perfect color of a desert sky. I have watched many openers but this one has to be the best of all time.
Later Hall seduces us all in the midnight Orchid Scene when the bride finds Blakes gift hanging in a tree and he appears from the left behind her. The whole look he captured provided more sex appeal than any oral turn on a person could possible injest!
After 20 or so rewatches I googled his name and found he had passed forward in 2003. I was hoping to contact him and tell him what his work meant to me. You can get no better film photography tutorledge than watching Hall's product. He was a master.
I thank the maker of this fine video for giving us more insight about Conrad Hall. My sincere appreciations for you!

I was one of the special effects techs on “Road to Perdition” . I was hiding behind that car in that shot in the thumb nail. I fired body hits on Newman with a nail board in the pouring rain of which they didn’t use in the final cut.
