    I just discovered these videos.. love them! I have 6 kids myself. I close the kitchen 1 hour before dinner but the veggie drawer is always open. This changed my sons eating habits. He never ate vegetables from the time he was a baby and had his first baby food. HATED veggies. But the hour before dinner it was all he could eat. He started with baby carrots, but after a year of this he was eating bell peppers and snap peas and 3 years later he now eats all vegetables even brussel sprouts. I didn’t really care if they ruined their appetites on vegetables it’s probably healthier than what I’m making for dinner any way.

      Yes! We noticed our 18 month old was starting to become a snacker and not eating his dinner and I took a look at myself and realised whenever I had a snack he wanted some so I started having my snack when he was napping and just feed him breakfast, an earlier lunch, an afternoon snack in his high chair and dinner. Suddenly he started eating all of his dinner again. And I don't feel like I'm constantly feeding him.

    • @beccam507
      @beccam507 6 лет назад +2

      Totally agree. I've been there. We worry about our kids getting enough to eat, or want to make them happy, or keep them busy, or whatever, and we use food or snacks. My kids are not big snackers generally. My 23 month old only eats a snack once in awhile. And she is typically an excellent eater at mealtimes. And if I serve her vegetables first, she'll often at least try one or two bites, but if she's already had a big snack, she won't be that interested in the vegetables at mealtimes!

      My step son once threw up at a restaurant because we asked him to take one bite of broccoli. He had gotten himself so worked up leading up to the bite. He was a teenager when that happened. That incident made me adamant that any babies I raised would love a variety of food just like their mama. And now? My 6 and 8 year olds have a few favorite vegetables.

My teens (19 &14) and husband aren’t very organized even though I have LABELS everywhere they ignore it. Now that’s frustrating and I can’t move out 😂 lol!!! Best of luck!

    • @Mooserinde
      @Mooserinde 5 лет назад +11

      @Kaiya , I know your post is 7 months old but i just read it and i wanna encourage you to take matters into your own hands and organise whatever you want! If it's your room or closet or even your parents pantry (i'm sure they'll love for you to do that). I also felt misunderstood when i was a teen and i could not wait to move out :D I think most teenagers feel like that and that is totally okay and understandable.
      Let me share a life hack with you that applies to nearly everything. When faced with any challenge or situation you don't like (like you being annoyed that nobody in your family cares about organising) you have 3 options:
      1. You can accept it fully and don't change it.
      2. You can stay upset/angry about it.
      3. You can do something about it.
      You gotta choose 1 because it just doesn't work in the long run to mix them together.
      Sorry for my unsolicited advice, you can take it or leave it. It's all okay for me :)
      I wish you well.

    I love love love the independence that these habits form for your children! Not only does it make your life easier, it starts to prepare them to be adults and take care of themselves. It teaches them to be accountable for their own nutrition and not rely on someone else to do it for them! It's shocking how many adults haven't even learned that quite yet!

    I have to say that I am fascinated by how you are fair with your kids. As one of the oldest in a family of 5, it was always on me to do things for the younger kids and they could go forever without caring for themselves. It was a broken system and I honestly disagree with it wholeheartedly. Having big families is not easy but if someone chooses that, fairness and responsibility should go across the family not just one kid doing it all to help mom. I wouldn't have mind making my own food, laundry and lunches, but doing this for everyone was a burden. Thank you for setting a different example!!!!

      YES!!! I agree with this wholeheartedly. I’m also the oldest of 5 kids and I was always like the 3rd parent. I was expected to do things that an adult would but was still treated like a child. And it created a lot of tension between my parents and I, my mom and i’s relationship is really bad and is only getting worse and it’s mostly from all the expectations she placed on me.

    My mom used the Capri Suns for ice packs when we were camping or going on road trips! You freeze them and use them to keep your cooler refrigerated. You don't have to worry about the ice melting and getting all of your food wet, and then once they thaw the kids had a nice cold drink! Then she would supplement with bagged ice as needed after that since we all know how expensive Ice can be when trying to keep something cool for a long period of time! I always thought this was such a unique tip!

    I think I'm gonna be a mom like you. Every time I go out to the city or somewhere else with my friends I have a small bottle of water, an apple and some self made granola cookies in my backpack or bag (I use very ripe bananas instead of sugar for the cookies). My friends always wonder about that because if they're hungry they buy something in a store, but I save so much money with this method and it's much easier

    Sometimes life forces you to get this organized and have such a great system. I’m sure having 5 kids has led to you teaching your kids to be more responsible so you can remain sane. They want to get something quickly for their children to eat so fast food fills that need. These children have to be trained to make their own lunches and mom figures it’s faster to just do these things herself. Lets face it, time and space is a HUGE advantage with this system. I now have high schoolers and they take up any free space we had. Great tips, gorgeous family friendly kitchen.
