  • If you've got an Intel Core i9 processor (especially a Core i9-14900K or 13900K) then you might have noticed some stuttering and stability issues. This includes games losing frame rates, being unstable or crashing a lot.
If you've seen the error message that you're out of video memory and your game has crashed as a result (especially with Unreal Engine games) then this could be caused by settings in your BIOS. MSI (like others) has settings in the BIOS which are meant to boost more performance by drawing more power and putting your CPU under more load. This can make your system faster, but it can also potentially cause instability.
Igor's lab got a statement direct from Intel about this:
    www.igorslab.d...
Following that various motherboard manufacturers released BIOS updates and settings changes for motherboards to counter the problem.
    See here - www.msi.com/bl...
To fix your stability problems with your Intel Core i9 processor if you are using an MSI motherboard, follow these steps:
    1. Download the latest BIOS for your motherboard by visiting the MSI website
    2. Update and install the new BIOS
    3. Reset settings to default
    4. Under the advanced section, select OC (Overclocking)
    5. Scroll down and find "CPU Cooler Turning"
    6. Set it to "Boxed cooler" (no matter what you're using)
    7. Under Advanced CPU Configuration find "CPU Lite Load Control" and set it to "Intel Default"
    8. Turn XMP back on
    9. Save and exit
NOTE - you might see a drop in performance, but you should see an improvement in stability.

Thanks for this guide. Ghosts of Tsushima was full on rebooting my PC when I hit the play button. Which is odd because I'd never had a game do that before, but I had seen the out of video memory error you showed. So I changed the settings you mentioned and it fixed it.

Another example of a way to bypass this problem. My wife was crashing Hogwartz during shader rendering at the start of the game. This very pop up. She changed the windows settings to power saver and it rendered shaders without dropping. She's now playing and happy :)

@@Shirodx So you own a watercooling loop with that board and cpu or read it somewhere on internet? Its not that I dont want to believe in what you say, but internet is full of "experts".

    • @Shirodx
      @Shirodx 3 месяца назад +1

@@michaelfairchild I hear what you’re saying. It’s an AIO water cooler and the temps still spike at 99c for a sec from time to time. So far after I adjusted the wattage\power settings it’s been good. Yes, you’re not getting the advertised consistent top speeds you paid for but if you are coming from an older cpu (Ryzen 7 1700x) like I am it’s still good. I also do video editing on the side so that’s why I’m sticking with intel.

@@michaelfairchildtheyre right. It doesn't matter, it just restricts voltages. You can test it yourself and see the values it changes straight in the bios. Have a 14700k and arctic liquid freezer. It changes the ac, dc loadline and cpu lite mode (for me, intel default is 16).

@@michaelfairchildthe BIOS setting sets the power limit to like 4000 watts if u use water cooling mode, that’s a huge contributor to the instability problem with the 13/14th gen intel cpus
