Quentin Tarantino's dialogue on 13:48 - What is "Shinto"? - Shinto, shinto is one of the religions in Japan that has- - What is architecture? - Architecture... it is building - What is? - What is... life
3:22 Old churches in the Philippines also have this in its doors, so that people entering would always have their heads down because they would watch their step. Traditionally, it was deemed disrespectful to gaze upward when entering. Interesting how they have different meanings there.
The reason you don't walk through the middle of the middle gate is because that's where the spirits walk. For the same reason when you go up or down the stairs you're supposed to use the left or right side, not the middle of the stairs. And yeah, those round trees are manicured by gardeners.
16:03 Mudan going full toddler with his questions after a long day speedrunning temples 😂 Thanks for finally succumbing to peer pressure Mudan - we all love you for it ❤❤❤
Done quick google about Kanda shrine and it looks it was in anime Love Live!. In anime it was portrayed as the shrine where Nozomi Tojo helps out as a shrine maiden. So that's why there was so many tiles with anime characters.
This was such an interesting video! Lushfruit was great at explaining everything in an interesting way! Congratulations on making it a real thing and making Mudan speedrun every temple in Tokyo!
Zojo-ji was the most emotional experience of all the shrines - seeing the Sentai Kosodate Jizō and all the small decorated statues representing unborn children, including miscarried, aborted, and stillborn children was unexpected and was extremely moving. Also, going to senso-ji before the tourist area opens in the morning was excellent. The Buddhist priests were doing their prayers over a fire, and was a great experience to witness with locals and no tourists in what is usually a very bustling place.
This is so cool! The most fun I had in Japan was discovering a temple or shrine that wasn't touristy and was even more beautiful than the touristy ones.
I love the "title cards" for each temple. The red text and the filter over footage makes it feel like something out of some move. I can't seem to remember which movie tho.
madlad got the commenter and a t-shirt for the temple speed run when i went to japan alone for the first time, i went to found some relatively small and medium sized shrines and temples
It is absolutely insane to me how you upload SO OFTEN and regularily - and every video is FILLED with adventures and info and journeys! You live a 1000 lives in Japan and I hope you still enjoy it despite your YT hustle. Wishing you the best for your future journeys, Mudan! Best wishes from Germany
@@lushfruit (: The smaller details are truly what makes temples and shrines worth the effort to understand and experience. Beyond the sweeping strokes of politics, history, and religion that have shaped these places, it is the subtle influence and intimate connection of these spiritual places with people and their stories, past and present, that make them so key to understanding Japan.
This video was great! I didn't expect you to bring one of your commenters into the videos, but it made for a really fun video. Big shoutout to lushfruit for being so cool on video!
This is deliciously insane on so many levels: 1) we get to see who lushfruit actually is (I actually figured he was just a gremlin who had set up an automatic comment asking for a speedrun for the fun of it) 2) t-shirts were made for this and 3) the utter mad lad actually got us a Temple speedrun. Awesome!
Half a year left! Temple Speedrun! Maybe Next milestone is all of the stamps around the stations in Tokyo or a race from the south to the north before it gets cold?? 😉
Congratulations Lushfruit. I think the moral of this story is; harass someone long enough and they will give in 😅 (also, I can't wait for my episode to come out)
Fun fact about Kanda Myojin Shrine! It's really close to Akihabara, and it's also known as the anime shrine! It was featured in Love Live! Nozomi Tojo (from Love Live) works there as a Shrine Maiden in the anime! This also explains the many anime drawings on the ema (wooden wish plates)! :D Extra fun fact: This weekend they will celebrate the holiday of Obon and do an anime themed Bon Odori dance! :D
It finally happened! I was not expecting to see the man himself in the speedrunning temples in tokyo video. Also I loved the Twilight princess music used
I was thinking this would be the would be the video he saved for the last day. I was thinking it would either be a live stream or maybe a movie length video.
Not sure if Lushfruit went to Mudan to force him to finally do it or Mudan went to Lushfruit and was like if I'm doing this you are gonna suffer with me 😂
The newest large-scale temple in Tokyo is the Naritasan Fukagawa Fudō-dō, which completed its main reconstruction in recent years. It's a modern temple known for its impressive architecture and rich traditions.
In Japan, a temple (寺, tera) is a Buddhist place of worship, while a shrine (神社, jinja) is a Shinto place of worship. Temples are associated with Buddhism and often feature statues of Buddha, pagodas, and incense burners. Shrines, on the other hand, are tied to Shinto and typically include torii gates, sacred objects, and often focus on nature-based spirituality.
Japan's primary religions are Shinto and Buddhism. Shinto is an indigenous religion focused on kami (spirits) and rituals connected to nature and ancestors. Buddhism, which arrived from Korea and China in the 6th century, focuses on teachings of the Buddha and practices like meditation and mindfulness. Many Japanese people practice elements of both religions, often visiting Shinto shrines for life events like births and weddings, and Buddhist temples for funerals.
Yokai are supernatural beings or spirits from Japanese folklore. They can range from mischievous tricksters to malevolent forces and come in many forms, such as animals, humans, or even inanimate objects brought to life. Some well-known yokai include the mischievous kitsune (fox spirits) and the terrifying oni (demons or ogres). Yokai often embody natural phenomena, cultural fears, or serve as morality tales.
I defo made a few mistakes in my explanations, pls don't execute me.
Correction the Imperial Family Kamon is a Chrysanthemum flower. Not a lotus
yeah the flower of the imperial family is a crysanthemum not a lotus
You did great friend!!!
Not Ebisu at 9:18, it's 大黒天 / Daikokuten one of the seven lucky gods (七福神, Shichi Fukujin). Nice run tho
pls do kamakura
Proud of you ma boy
Last Day of asking Mudan to speedrun nearly every main temple in Tokyo.
Time for a Kyoto edition 😅
Yes!
The hero we needed
The madlad, the absolute fucking leyend
You absolute madlad
Persistence paid off
I can finally give you the title of "Mudan's #1 fan" that was given to me years ago by @am53n8 - please wear it like the responsibility that it is
Congratulations to lushfruit who asked mudan to go to temples for half a year
My meaning to life is complete
@@lushfruit 🎉🎉🎉
Its been half a year alr???
@@lushfruit Never thought you’re a knowledgeable English Buddhist
HE FUCKING DID IT LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
What we learnd today:
If you annoye Mudan enough, visit him in Japan and do the thing with him, you can convince him to do it.
And the repetitive comments will stop
Don't fear a man that ask you 1000 things.
Fear the man that ask you 1 thing 1000 times.
Not only did he do it but he had the man, the myth, the legend Lushfruit as his guide. Truly a speedrun. NOW ITS TIME FOR KYOTO BB
This feels like a mid-season arc finale, I wonder what the next half of the year will bring.
Mad man actually did it and with the person asking Mudan to speedrun the temples :D
Was not expecting the actual requester to appear in this video, with t-shirts made specifically for this no less! Great video!

it was the hardst momment of my life
I legit thought he will do this for his last video of the series. Not after 182 days
Imagine that 💀
182 is alsmost the halfway point tho ... so makes sense as well
At the other half he'll have to do another city temple Speedrun. Kyoto apparently is an option
@@lushfruitwould you have kept going?
Same. But seems like Mudan's always subverting expectations.
No freakin' way! LushFruit is going to be so happy when he sees this video...
I'm jumping for joy 😊
3:22 Old churches in the Philippines also have this in its doors, so that people entering would always have their heads down because they would watch their step. Traditionally, it was deemed disrespectful to gaze upward when entering. Interesting how they have different meanings there.
The fact that Mudan not only did it, but actually got Lushfruit to join him makes this even better 😂
We really got mudan temple speed run before gta 6
That guy finally won

Broooooo they even special shirts 💀
Amazing artist did it
16:03 Mudan going full toddler with his questions after a long day speedrunning temples 😂 Thanks for finally succumbing to peer pressure Mudan - we all love you for it ❤❤❤
I had same exact thought, then I was reminded of when I used to keep asking why to my parents.
This was unironically one of the best videos in the daily vlogs you have done, it brings a tear to my eye 🥲
10:30 kanda jinja is near akihabara, which is why there are so many people have left anime drawings there
Guy requesting mudan for almost a year and now he's actually in the video itselr. What a madlad.
the most anticipated yt video of the decade
Done quick google about Kanda shrine and it looks it was in anime Love Live!. In anime it was portrayed as the shrine where Nozomi Tojo helps out as a shrine maiden. So that's why there was so many tiles with anime characters.
AHH interesting, was confused and overwhelmed by the sheer amount of anime related Emas
We hit the halfway mark and temple speedrun! May the last 6 months be as adventurous as previous 6.
This was such an interesting video! Lushfruit was great at explaining everything in an interesting way! Congratulations on making it a real thing and making Mudan speedrun every temple in Tokyo!

I thought this would be the last video of the year, but this is perfect as a mid-season finale!
Committing to a bit so hard, you become a guest character. Actually respectable.

This chemistry is amazing. The monotonous back and forth, the relax informational vibes. Honestly pls collab again.
Lets go! Awesome speedrun with a great focus on the smaller details throughout different temples and shrines. Awesome work Mudan and Lushfruit.
