The summer children have passed into autumn, but winter is coming...
Totally agree!
The winter rains will break their hearts but they won’t be hardened soldiers of winter until the last snow falls.
Not yet. We all know when they become children of winter
@@bradcarver8127excellent way of wording that
The night is dark, and full of terrors.
The real game of thrones starts here
Weird, considering this is the best season.
@@Al-ji4gdthat’s your opinion
"My father was Maekar, the First of his Name. My brother Aegon reigned after him, when I had refused the throne, and he was followed by his son Aerys, whom they called the Mad King"
I still get chills
Love that scene.
Jaehaerys II erasure smh lol
The way he laughs at the irony of Jon lashing out at him saying he can't possibly understand what he is going through.
"The gods were cruel when they saw fit to test my vows.. they waited 'till I was old."
And to think, we're going to see a young Aemon in the new series, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms... we'll meet most of the guys he mentioned. Craziness
You guys are so cute ❤
"That's not fair!" Oh my sweet summer child, if it's fairness you're looking for then you're watching the wrong show.
Don't ever be embarrassed for crying 😂
If someone doesn't cry or at least jump out of their chair at Ned's death, there's basically no point in doing a Game of Thrones reaction.
You are a white-walker if Ned’s death doesn’t affect you.
Of course, you should be embarrassed and ashamed In fact. Crying is the ultimate display of emotions. It's a weakness.
Did you know-and this is an actual statistical fact, by the way-that male children between the ages of 7 and 10 who cry more tend to hold unemployment status much longer in adulthood.
@@lunafencoven ...Mom?
😂😂😂
@@lunafencoven I think we can all agree,to quote GOT, there's no cure to being a cu....
Aww. sweet sweet Chandra made me cry too at the end^^ Great reaction again you two..
same. i most definitely had moist eyes at the end.
Or someone left the windows open and the onion cutting ninjas came in again
Yep, me too! 😭
Agreed, this was one of the more moving reactions I've seen to this episode.
@@grothesk80Yeah she's great
Ned's death was really shocking.
Fortunately, the show never went to such levels of violence again after.
Yeah I am glad they toned it down after this.
You are surely joking!
😂😂😂 love the sarcasm
In the previous episode they captured a Lannister scout, and Rob let him go with a message that suggested that Rob's entire army would be marching towards Tywin Lannister instead of Jamie. Apparently nobody questioned it because Northerners have a reputation for not being especially cunning and deceitful, and because they assumed that Rob wouldn't have the best judgment because of his age, and would actually do exactly what he boasted he would. So the Northerners sent a small force to give the appearance that the scout had been told the truth, and the majority to take Jamie's army by surprise.
I remember when this show first came out, my mother who spoke no English was obsessed with this show. She called me and told me about this, and I never really knew what she was talking about until I started watching this years later. And I called her freaking out about it and it was such a full circle moment 😂
That is lovely. I watched this show when nobody knew it in my country. Was watching this chapter alone, in the middle of the night, and all of a sudden i needed someone to talk to so badly. My sisters were around but they knew nothing. Years later, I was in my room when I hear one of my sisters scream and cry. Went running and found her finishing this chapter. “Why?!” She said “ I hate this show..” it was a full circlw moment.
For me, this is when the show really takes off🔥👏🏻
Not sure you noticed, the sword Jon got was meant for Jorah, the guy at Dany's side.
They are on season 5 on Patreon so no lore comments here really matter lol
This was groundbreaking for two reasons. The first book set him up as the main character, who you always expect to be saved at the last second somehow. Then he's dead. Also, because Bean was the face plastered on every promotion, killing off the main bankable star in Season 1 was unheard of in American TV.
And because it's episode 9 and not the season finale haha. (I do think the final scene of the season befits its finale status just as well though.)
Everyone should have known he was going to die. It's Sean Bean
If I recall correctly, The Walking Dead was doing the same thing around the same time
@@billthomas478only cinephiles wouldve
Not only did they cut off his head, they did it with his ancestral valyrian steel great sword. 😭
Also, "love is the death of duty"-Maester Aemon; his duty would have been staying true to claiming Stannis. He folded to save his family. Everything honorable (Dany) til now.
You're conflating duty and honor. You can be honorable while failing in your duty.
Which is so ironic because that's what Jamie did and Ned hated him for it.
I can see for the rest of my life I will be watching new reactors to Game of Thrones. This is what I do now.
"They're not going to execute him, are they???"
Well...😮
Great reaction, Maplenuts. Looking forward to the next reaction.
Aria would not have been killed, she would have been captured for ransom as a Stark. And, if Joffery was smart, he would have known the value of Ned Stark as a prisoner, as his mother was clearly trying to council him on....but Joffery is Joffery. Trust me, I think EVERYONE was both shocked and mortally wounded when they executed Ned. This show is absolutely BRUTAL but its so great, too, and there's so much more of the story!
Yay! I absolutely love watching with you guys.. right now I’m sick in bed, this is the perfect distraction!
Your tears brought us joy! Buckel up.
Back when I first watched this episode I was convinced the witch lady was just going to ride away on Khal Drogo's horse. Like the whole blood sacrifice thing was just ploy because she knew she needed to get the fuck out of there before Drogo died and they all started killing each other. Would've been really funny seeing Dany leave the tent and then her riding out the other side.
And then they cut to inside the tent and you see a _Home Alone_ style setup with a bunch of cardboard cutouts moving around on strings and a boom box playing demon noises.
It’s all happy times, puppies and rainbows from here on out.
Yeah i was absolutely in shock what happened to ned. I was just mind blown and had no idea where the show will go now
I wish you luck in the wars to come!!
This was the episode that really set the tone for the whole series... no one is safe. We hadn't really seen that before on American television, at least not in this sort of a show.
The show didn't have the budget in the first season to show a battle, but this was a fun way to yada yada the battle.
Great reaction, seen GOT multiple times and that scene still gets me. Can’t wait for the next video!
Beautiful reaction y’all 🙌🙌🙌 Thanks for sharing.
The most honorable man in Westeros, executed for treason. This story constantly flips fantasy archetypes on its head.
It's just been a "bild up" til now, the series starts today!
Happy Journey!
😂😅
If you noticed, he said he confessed in front of all the gods there of his treason, but he supports the Old Gods, not the New.
I’ve seen this scene hundreds of times and I never noticed that!!!
“All the gods” includes the Old Gods… It’s a common phrase in ASOIF. That said it’s an interesting point, and somewhat surprising that he didn’t swear “in front of The Seven” or something.
That was 100% the right reaction.
Don't worry. This is the last time that you'll cry. From here on it's nothing but sunshine and endless happiness
Great reaction! Tears are soooo normal with this episode, it still gets me at times too. Thanks for the reaction!
"Torches are so cool" underrated comment right there :D
21:46 anyone else answer when she asked
We cried, too. I was one of the people that was saying they can't just kill off a main character like that..
It just goes to show how much they make you care for the characters! - They did this to show that no one is safe in the GoT.
@@interghost
Who is “They?”
@@Ernwaldo Did you mean "who are they"? - The writers... so, the original writer of the books and then also the screen writers.
@@interghost
No.
Love you guys 💜 have a great day
all of us cried, all of us pleaded, all of us went through the stages of grief, and then all of us realized... this wasn't going to be like any other TV show in history. This is just the beginning... winter is coming!
Ah sacred cursed 09
17:57 In the book, Tywin forces him to be last and giving her a golden dragon, because a Lanister worth more.
To fill out something another one said. Robb released the scout that counted to 20'000, who then reported that number. Robb sent 2'000 men instead to move, giving him the majority of the army to get Jamie
First time I watched this, I had a bad feeling as they were marching him out. Not in a “I knew it all along” way, but more because I got the sense this was not gonna be a show that would do what we like.
This is the moment when you realise that no-one is safe in this show! Couldn't believe it, the first time I watched it, and still get a tear in my eye every time now! Love your reactions, I just wish the GoT ones were a little more frequent ... because I'm greedy in that way! 😜😂
The honourable died a traitor.. it’s so tragic for Ned to have his story end that way
I have watched this scene at least 40 times....still tear up😢
"That's the worst death in this whole thing."
And by the end of the episode, they topped it.
I mean...they were talking about a horse right. I'm not sure how serious that one was 😂😂 If they meant the gore, hey, it was worse than Ned's death!
23:45 - OH CHANDRA! HUGS 🫂 ❤
We all took Ned's Betrayal hard too. But for every main character you love & lose in this show ~ you'll get 2 new ones you'll end up loving even more. Just wait!
I am enjoying watching this with you. This show never gets old.
One of the most memorable episodes in tv show history. This was horrible the first time, and it still is painful to watch. Thanks for sharing your reaction to it.
They hint at Jaime's prowess as a warrior in the show... they talk about it more in the book. He nearly kills his way to Robb in the battle. When Jaime is presented to Cat... he mentions losing his sword. It's because it got stuck in the body of the last Robb's bannermen he killed... and that was the only way they were able to stop him.
The way this circles back to the very first episode when that sword is swung to behead a man. Ned educating his son Bran on why he was the one to do it: "the man who pass the sentence should swing the sword."
And the stark contrast to the pretentious and disgraceful will of this tyrant of a boy-king in the south, who on a whim ask his headsman to bring him his head..
Welcome to GoT Maplenuts. In this show, anybody can be killed. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Pretty crazy that even in today's modern medicine, people do still die from seemingly minor cuts and abrasions being infected. People lose limbs due to infection. Bacteria can be brutal.
Exactly I mean Ned died instantly from his cut
@@DukeJimbob Ilyn Payne is known as a very abrasive man.
Summer children have gotten a taste of winter......
.....but not yet.
You’re so right. Robb’s an awesome leader!
Yea in the book they all knew about jons sword becusse a few of his brothers helped make the new pommel.
You guys are my favourite reactors 👏
Yes, "he" will miss out on the whole battle now. Funny how in the books, where words about battle cost the same as words about a conversation, "he" didn't miss out on the battle :P
also I’m glad you guys are doing week by week because the binge watchers just don’t understand the pain all of us watching in real time had to go through 😭
It's a little bit evil, but I feel like Ned's execution is the moment that everyone who HAS read the books (and knows exactly what's going to happen) eagerly waits for everyone who HASN"T read the books to witness. 😄
"What kind of accent is that?" When you get right down to it, a German accent. Shae comes from Hamburg
Well I can't resist making a tepid "so Tyrion enjoys sex with Hamburgers" joke now :P
Turkish descent though
@@knightheaven8992 Doesn't really matter, does it? She is a German citizen, has received the Federal Cross of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz - the highest civilian award in Germany), is politically active and is committed to helping children get a good education. - and she was a classmate of mine :)
This is a tough one...but this is when things really get started. Sad for Ned though...he just wasn't built for this world.
Y'all best strap in, the rest of this ride is gonna be rough! I look forward to the next reaction.
sweet summer children ^__^ this is the real experience
Winter is Coming, Shagga likes Axes, and Everyone Hates the Cave People: the three sureties in the Westerosi world.
Hahaha The first of many tears.
hope you keep postig the youtube uploads fast. im hooked
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
I felt bad for Chandra :(
Well now you just started the long journey!!
The good and honorable are usually the victims of the corrupt, greedy, and the irredeemable. If Eddard Stark had of only immediately gone to the King with the information, and not informed Cersei first, he would have lived. Instead he did the honorable thing, of giving Cersei the chance at leaving before the King found out the truth. However, schemers, plotters, and the power hungry made their own moves. That's one thing about this series. Being honorable means you follow rules, and it makes you weak against those that have no rules, and will do anything for power or revenge.
I was shocked here too, really pissed.
They are in for a ride
Ok now, welcome to Game of Thrones 😮
Cersei did warn you, "when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die"😀
You know whats even more wild about Tyrion story how he once fell in love, the book version........ Jamie admitted to someone that their farther forced him to lie and say it was set up with a prostitute, it wasn't.
Tywin is evil!
And this is where the "Sean Bean dies in every movie" meme started.
Oh no, that started way before. It's why many weren't surprised by this episode. Once you see Sean Bean and he's one of the good guy's, you know he's not making it through the film or series. It was the same for Bill Paxton too. He was another actor known for dying in roles.
Your baptism is complete. This won't be the first time you cry and rage at this show. Have fun!
Welcome to the game of thrones 😄
What's worse is Illyn Payne used the Stark family Valeryan steel great sword, Ice, to execute Ned.
"But wait, there's more!"
It"s Got sweet summer child, no mercy , never !!!!!
The craft of forging new Valaryian steel was lost so each sword is truly precious. We'd have to refer back to old lore about ages gone by. GOT TV show does not do flashbacks. Any old stories you have to catch in dialog, hear in the music or see occasional references.
This is the episode that made GoT infamous. And it only gets bloodier. Welcome to the real show.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but you should check out the Game of Thrones: History & Lore videos that were released after every season, it should fill you in on a lot of the history and culture that the tv show doesn't have time to explain.
I heard for people who finished all those videos and wanted even more info, they even released some books to fill in more details about everything!
I'm being a dick, but at a certain point it does seem really silly to search out more and more videos to find out the backstory, when you know it's all adapted from the book series haha.
It’s been mentioned as naseum and they’ve finished Season 5.
Oh sweet summer child.
Peak Television @ the time!!! Buckle up.
Cried for Ned, and I'm like, strap yourselves in, it only gets worse for characters. lol.
Oh shit - let it cook guys your really in for it
This was the first episode I saw when my parents were still watching it. I only stayed to see it because I like Sean Bean. Oh... oops... oh...
I also have always liked Jason Mamoa. I will continue watching because of him. Oh... oh no...
I still went back and watched the rest of season one eventually, and continued watching through the last episode.
But I never did get into House of the Dragon.
Can we just recognize Jack Gleeson as Joffrey. He really makes you hate him lol - if you ever watch some of his interviews he couldn't be a nicer guy in real life too it's quite funny
Ned did everything right, except play the game well. Trying to protect his family, he may have inadvertently cost them everything. Ned is a great leader, but not sure he'd be a good king.
21:45
Yes!
This show is so good at making us love and hate characters.
You'll be glad to know that Ned is the last person you like dies. No chit.
I don't think Drogo's cut would have turned that bad if Daenarys hadn't allowed Mirri to "treat" the cut. She deliberately made it worse in revenge for the horrors the Dothraki visited on her town.
WE MADE IT! This is the episode where it all goes to sh*t. The entire show just gets BETTER AND BETTER FROM HERE.
So your journey has begun :)
And now his watch has ended… RIP Ned Stark
We all feel the same about Ned!
Yeah, I liked him too😞
I remember starting to watch this show and not really liking the casting for Jorah Mormont because in the book he's described as a big bear of a man with a full beard, so I pictured him like a younger version of the actor who plays his father Lord Commander Mormont and this actor didn't look at all like Ser Jorah, but Ian Glenn quickly won me over.
He has the gravitas to pull this character off, plus he looks surprisingly stylish even in blood and dirt covered rags, which is an interesting choice I'd never would have considered and brings something new to this character, which IMO calls back to his backstory about how he had a materialistic and expensive wife and that led him to trade slaves and flee to the other side of the Narrow Sea after Ned Stark caught on to what he was doing. Seems this version of good old Jorah also liked the finer things in life just like his Kardashian-like Targaryen-lookalike former wife, even if he's also fine with roughing it because he's a warrior of Bear Island, after all.
