    I just the love the joy that these two have when playing together. You have to applaud Lee and the rest of the ‘management’ for allowing this approach. Most refreshing!!!

      Lol they have an obligation to promote and exaggerate. The device is...'ok' at best. I'd actually rate it as on par with Hydra and I don't like that all that much (from a performance perspective). I am sure it will be fine at home.

    @10:00 I was absolutely cracking up! The interplay was so fun to watch! Couple of comments:
    1) Please review the closed captioning... just when your British accents go into high speed mode the closed caption drops out and we have no idea what you're saying.. especially when you're chortling and talking quickly. I'm a musician with hearing loss... pretty sure I can't be alone.
    2) Funny how you guys say Mental over there where we in the US would be saying 'crazy' or 'dope' or some other silly expression. So Brit!
    3) THOROUGHLY enjoyed watching you guys getting off on this hardware! It is truly some amazing gear....ahem... I mean... KIT.... ;-)

    It's great that companies are trying different things. I have a hard enough time hitting the right notes as it is without knocking them out of tune, but I could see someone really digging how expressive this is. I don't think it's overpriced for what it is.

    Expressive E has come a LONG way since the Touche! This is like 49 mini Touche's connected to a crazy powerful Synth engine.

      Mini Touche, love it.

    • @dankeplace
      @dankeplace Год назад

      Yeah the E touche` is something special, they configuration in software is pretty broad and you can really get lost, the Osmose simplifies the headaches of set up with partnering of the engine, which is something special too.
      The E touche` for analog, Osmose for Haken.
      Best of both worlds.

    It's interesting to see Dan play this from a guitarist's point of view. Guitarists struggle with some of these same issues of accidentally bending notes sometimes as well.

    I imagine guitar players (which I am primarily) have the advantage when playing these keys, having to sometimes bend individual fingers whilst keeping other stationary.

    The thing that would worry me about this is the sensitivity of the pitch bending. I feel like it would be easy to accidentally push keys slightly out of tune without meaning to. Would love to try it though.

    • @micahpick7434
      @micahpick7434 Год назад +1

      You can adjust the sensitivity of the pitch bend. You can also turn it off completely.

    • @keithmurray9241
      @keithmurray9241 Год назад

      Remember... pitch correction existed for god knows how long before someone/anyone thought to use it to deliberately mangle their voice as in t-pain hard-autotuning. Think of all the interesting techniques people are going to come up with once they dive into the potential settings. I'm also tripping over how this could be used as a controller for a Jupiter X, Wavestate, or whatever synth... even vintage synth... and bring an entire new perspective to them.

  • @oddcircuit

    it always makes me giggle when people go to reach for the mod wheel...after people learn to take advantage of this keyboard, this interface will become its own instrument, I hope this dont go away...its so much more expressive, just need to refine ur touch

  • @georgedeconto9599
    @georgedeconto9599 Год назад +4

    Seems like playing the piano got even harder. Having to push the keys straight to avoid bending definitely will need some practice, specially in complex chord fingerings.

    • @americoperez810
      @americoperez810 Год назад +3

      My thoughts exactly. Very reminiscent of the same issues others have with other stringed instruments. Gotta be more precise about where and how you play notes.

    It's nice, but not for me. I use a Deepmind 12, Hydrasynth and Montage on my albums and I just can't see where I would "need" this. It's nice though, and I love where synths are heading. Can't wait to see what's out there in the future, God willing.

  • @enochroot9438
    @enochroot9438 Год назад +2

    The osmose expressive E is the Mariah Carey of the synth world...sometimes it sounds beautiful but often it's just a case of excessive trills

    • @geoffwebber8272
      @geoffwebber8272 Год назад +1

      I think that is often down to the patches that are selected, many seem to have a lot of 'aftertouch' artifacts

    • @ErraticFaith
      @ErraticFaith Год назад

      It's complex for the sake of it. Musically there isn't any need for it - which is why I wouldn't bother.
      The keybed is great but also quite... a novelty. A bit like the Hydrasynth poly AT at times. Yes, for a nice solo ambient piece or doing controller work for some VST in the same ballpark at home. But for synth/matrix - which is obviously a lot of the cost; I'll see people still wanting the deluxe (octaves) or better/easier combinations of synths. Half the reasons the Korg's sell so well - speed of performance. Which is integral for actual music, rather than noodling in the excessive way as you describe.
      The issue is having too much and making too little because of it. I actually recommend the Jordan Rudess run through to showcase this. He's talented and also new to it; but the thing is far from optimal for use with anything else. Relearning this for proper pianists, will be pointless and mess up touch.

    5 thoughts I have watching this:
    (1) I can’t think of another instrument at that price that I think is more worth the price.
    (2) I need to get better at playing regular keys before I could justify an Osmose.
    (3) More importantly, now that I’ve realized my hands are too small for full-sized keys and too big for mini-keys, shopping for keyboards has gotten a lot harder. I wish anyone would sell a 6-inch per octave keyboard.
    (4) The exaggeration in marketing the Osmose still annoys me. I’ve seen Osmose representatives say things like, “All other keyboards have only been on/off switches,” when that hasn’t been true for decades. Almost everything these days is at least velocity sensing. And after-touch is no longer the rare thing it used to be. The Osmose is enough of an advancement to sell without such exaggeration.
    (5) Jake & Dan need to start a band with two Osmoses.

      Well, it’s not that much cheaper and won’t play a note on it’s own. I do kind of wonder about the whole MPE thing though, I know all the DAW and some of the synth manufacturers are chasing it, but how many of us actually need or can make good use of anything beyond poly-aftertouch?
