I love songs with that sort of melancholic but epic sound, and this song is just *goosebumps*. Well done! I love the expressiveness you can get from the keyboard.
Lately I've been thinking about how a whole lot of the character of a lead sound comes from pitch alone (melody, glides and bends, detune, octave). The lead at :59 is such a good example of this. The performance controlling the pitch bend gives it an organic feel, even though if that synth sound was playing a static note, it wouldn't sound organic at all.
@@MrSevenEleven The Roli Seaboard has been around for years, it's unique and It's completely different to any other keyboard I own... incredible control ..!!!
Your evolution as a musician is astounding. You're a total monster on so many levels Andrew! It's crazy to me that there's basically no one in top 40 that can do what you do and also sound as good as you. Back then I might have agreed with those people to some extent, but I think that your vocal performance here really shows how much you've improved. this video is sooo good - i feel like i haven't seen a lot of compelling MPE vids, they’re usually cool but not emotional - but this video is hitting the nail on the head!!
Damn. I have been waiting for your take for a while now. I knew you wouldn't disappoint in showing this off in such a musical context! Mine arrives next month and now I'm even more happy that I had jumped in 3-4 years ago now.
Nice video! Mine came two weeks ago. The MPE+ implementation of pressure control impresses me most of all....the wiggle which is what attracted me is actually the most tame and restricted of the three key actions. Osmose Pressure is a two-way street, turning each key into a polyphonic dial, essentially. So you can go down half-way to the "stop" above the aftertouch, then rise up a quarter, then go back down, usually raising and lowering the volume of each note, and potentially effect other parameters depending on the preset. No other "keyboard" with the classic layout and travel can do this. It is the aspect over which you have the most control, since aftertouch does not kick in, as Loopop points out, till 100% pressure, which does limit it's use somewhat. The wiggle is pitch-bend only, which hopefully will change soon, because there are many more useful parameters to use the lateral action for, IMHO. Andrew, you should mention the Osmose is also the most advanced eurorack controller if used in con-junction with the 'CVC" MPE+ to CV converter from Haken, which is 4 channel, with 16 CV outputs, and is configured in the Matrix. I hope you will cover Matrix programing at some point. Love to see you on the guitars and drums, too, and singing. You might want to check out the resonators from la-voix-du-luthier, which some are using with the Osmose.
I thought the Roli Seaboard was awesome, but DAMN. You know what this reminds me of in a lot of ways? The sarangi. Ancient Indian string instrument, INCREDIBLY difficult to play. BUT. The notes you can get out of that thing...of all the instruments in the world, it's been considered one of the closest to the human voice.
Not to smash the dream or speak negatively of Andrew's talents in any way - but for those looking to get in on this wonderfulness just be aware that edited youtube videos make things seem much faster. It's minutes here but unedited that could've been hours or days if creative blocks happen. That shouldn't stop anyone from pursuing music though! I just like to reality check folks that for any of the hobbies/careers shown on YT you're seeing the final product of tons of effort and time. That effort and time can be a really fun journey though!
@@Daphoid Needs to be mentioned more, stuff always looks easy on RUclips because no one uploads their hours and days and weeks of tries that didnt't work out (yet). Nevertheless though: even considereing the creative blocks he probably encounters like everyone, the amount of great quality content enveloped with good video/cinematography and full songs is still VERY astonishing. I can only wish to have half of his creative energy.
Thank you for giving this instrument the time it deserves and respecting it enough to recognize that it is a new instrument that needs to be learned. While the “hey let’s unbox and power on this thing together” videos have their place, too many content producers cannot stop and first appreciate their own personal journey with an instrument.
That track between BLEW ME AWAY, woah!! That will be stuck in my head for a while. As always the way you present things and explain things gave me that much needed dopamine I wanted today. This synth looks so fun to play. Kinda crazy that something just like it didn't exist before (as far as I know) since it feels so intuitive.
I clicked in for a keyboard review, and this dude slays me with this monster progressive power pop tune? Dayum. Killer vocals too. Did not see that coming.
Andrew just going crazy in that whole rock song then just abruptly cuts back to the review almost felt like he was lost in the music and he just took me with him up until he realized he was doing something else important💀
the hair on my arms started standing up around 10 minutes in might be partly due to the temperature in this room, but mostly to do with the length and variety of the channel compositions paired with the sizzling vocals. job incredibly well done my guy.. and I'ma need to get me one of them expressive boards
It's not in a keyboard format, but my favorite MPE controller is the Striso. It has individual bends in two directions (pitch and cutoff frequency by default) and very sensitive aftertouch, it has huge glides, it has microtonal settings, and you can even pick it up and use the acceleration sensors if you want.
It's actually a little bonkers that MIDI remained static for 35 years when nearly every other aspect of the industry has kept pace with changes in technology. Some of us have been waiting a loooong time for this evolution!
@@helmanfrow well it's a bit premature to assume this synth with that engine and editor are going to change that. the keybed will perhaps speed it up a bit spurring competition in the marketplace. If they sold it as an MPE controller without the synth it would sell like hotcakes.
Dude!!! Are you kidding?!!!! One of the best tunes I`ve heard from you right now... Where did that came from?! Just WOW for that prog rock vibes! kudos! btw, cheers form Brazil!
I used to play keyboard from 7 to 11 or 12 years old, then picked up guitar in my late teens (am 31 now). I have been getting into keyboard again over the last few years. The fact moving my fingers sensually and emotionally doesn't give me sensual and emotional sounds from my keyboard is aggravating. I need this thing. Although I'm afraid to look up the price.

The best product review ever.. and the song… oh man, I’ll be returning here lots of times. Thanks for everything you’ve been doing.
Man you’re killing that growl on ur vocals around 9:45
Cloud Collapse is amazing. That vocal performance in the intro blew me away!
THE FUTURE IS HERE!!!!
Wow Andrew, you've _really_ outdone yourself with Cloud Collapse. I've been a fan of yours for years but this track is really something else.
AMAZING! Awesome tones, Vocal n Synth lines are insanely beautiful!!!
Best track I have heard by FAR. This shows how truly talented you are man. Thank You!
Andrew can literally turn any sound into a fire beat in just a few minutes. Keep up the great work!!
@@perkeleman1265 100% agree!
Yo, Andrew. This might be my favorite track you’ve put out. Loved the chord progression and orchestration. Synth solos are beyond tasty.
Kinda crazy that something just like it didn't exist before (as far as I know) since it feels so intuitive.
synth vibratos are always cool. this technology should have come 30 years ago
Yamaha had it on some of their organs 40 years ago, long before midi.
I clicked in for a keyboard review, and this dude slays me with this monster progressive power pop tune? Dayum.
Killer vocals too. Did not see that coming.
Andrew just going crazy in that whole rock song then just abruptly cuts back to the review almost felt like he was lost in the music and he just took me with him up until he realized he was doing something else important💀
the hair on my arms started standing up around 10 minutes in
might be partly due to the temperature in this room, but mostly to do with the length and variety of the channel compositions paired with the sizzling vocals. job incredibly well done my guy.. and I'ma need to get me one of them expressive boards
That solo is absolutely nasty! Definitely learning this on guitar
MPE has been around for a while, the Linnstrument came out years ago and the Roli seaboard too.
@@GoodAfternoonDave Yeah, but it hasn't caught on widely, yet.
@@helmanfrow well it's a bit premature to assume this synth with that engine and editor are going to change that. the keybed will perhaps speed it up a bit spurring competition in the marketplace. If they sold it as an MPE controller without the synth it would sell like hotcakes.
@@helmanfrow the Egan Matrix synth has already been out for a while and almost no one bought it
Dude!!! Are you kidding?!!!! One of the best tunes I`ve heard from you right now... Where did that came from?! Just WOW for that prog rock vibes! kudos!
btw, cheers form Brazil!
I wonder how good this would be for creating orchestral arrangements 🤔
I used to play keyboard from 7 to 11 or 12 years old, then picked up guitar in my late teens (am 31 now). I have been getting into keyboard again over the last few years. The fact moving my fingers sensually and emotionally doesn't give me sensual and emotional sounds from my keyboard is aggravating.
I need this thing. Although I'm afraid to look up the price.
Cloud Collapse literally on par with any Muse song.
