No such thing as ”too many Osmose videos”, and that’s even tho I have one. I LOVE seeing and hearing what happens the first time someone tries these things!
The Osmose is incredible! The amount of key wiggle pitch bend is easily adjustable in the Sensitivity menu. You can dial in the amount you need or set it "never" if needed. Thanks for sharing the news.
Something I really love about this synth is that it introduce tonal imperfections back into performances/recordings with keyboards. All analog instruments aren't perfectly pitched or as consistent as digital instruments so the fact that the Osmose adds some creates a nice, textural, warm color to the environment it's playing in.
Sometimes, the "wrong" note sounds not because you've misplaced a finger, but because the "press glide" is enabled for an interval larger than the one you're playing - e.g. if press glide is set to three semitones and you play two notes a tone apart, the Osmose will give you the note in the middle.
Would love to hear Mike playing his favourite keys (Yamaha/nord) with the Genki Wave and see what sort of dimension he can add to his expression, especially strings.
No, Mr Patrick did not have to give his endorsement in order to make the Osmose any more desirable. But having his take on it is so welcome! Truly, an absolute joy to watch and listen to his discovering the style and capabilities of this instrument!
I'm a guitar player but absolutely love these videos. Is there any way you could possibly create an overlay on screen which depicts the notes/chords being played, sort of a live tab type thing ? Would love to 'borrow' some of these wonderful voicings etc.!
I would love a demo of the Omose, but not for its synth, but instead as a MPE controller with some high quality sample libraries in Kontakt and else… just to see how much control we could get on some Strings, Brass, etc… There’s pretty much no video that demonstrates that.
I worried about it too, because I feel cramped when I play anything with fewer than five octaves! I’ve even given away a really nice MIDI controller once, because it felt so useless with only 4 octaves. However, the Osmose is not a normal keyboard, I’ve never felt the need for more keys in the almost 4 months I’ve owned mine. Obviously, your experience may be different entirely, but if you’re curious about it, don’t dismiss it just because you can’t play with only four octaves. It looks like a keyboard, but it’s something else - it most definitely does NOT replace any other type of input device …in my opinion, of course.
I don't think this is a good way to answer the question, "does it live up to the hype?" The first time you sit down with a new keyboard, you likely will find features and sounds that you find interesting and cool. Have Mike come back after 6 months with the Osmose and tell us how he uses it on a day-to-day basis to accomplish things that he couldn't do before. Otherwise, I think it's just more hype. I look forward to hearing songs recorded with the Osmose and attending concerts performed with the Osmose.
THANK YOU MIKE PATRICK FOR PLAYING ONE OF THE ELECTRIC PIANO PATCHES!! I’ve been dying to hear more traditional sounds on this but no one seems to want to mess with them 😂
The start remibded kecwhen i bought a roli seabiard which i sild eventuallyhas it was too hard even on low settings to keep in tune so it sounded bad didnt like the first few sounds on this either its good mike had not played this cause ither reviews have all been oeople whojobviously spent large amounts if time learning it.
It reminds me of the computer mice where you can tilt the scroll wheel to one side or the other to do things. It's a neat idea, but realistically, how many people are going to use such a feature.
Mike you are incredible, best keyboard player that plays YAMAHA you are an icon - but PLEASE BRING BACK Jack! or at least have Jack make a farewell video. i have been watching Jack for a decade and learnd a lot from him. you cant just take him out :( please @Andertons
Jack hasn't left. He mentioned towards the end of last year that he was going to be on the road with James Arthur quite a bit this year. I imagine he'll be back when he's finished touring.
I’ll wait for a midi keyboard that does this same thing for a quarter of the price. Not in love with the sound in this unit and don’t see justification for the price.
Don’t think of it as a keyboard. Give it a try, and you’ll probably realize all your work learning traditional keyboards gives you an edge, but you need to treat this one as its own thing. In my opinion, at least.
Linnstrument is the main competitor IMO, not the Seaboard. Osmose is the best thing you can have without abandoning the standard layout and re-learning. Linnstrument is the best thing in this price range if you're willing to re-learn the skills. The Seaboard has most of the downsides of the Linnstrument (need to adjust and the shallow keybed), but without the benefit of the isomorphic layout
Looks very minimal and for things like sound design this things screams menu diving. For the price point I would have expected more physical features, but I guess all the budget went into the keybed tech. Only 49 keys with little amount of knobs/faders and its being advertised as a midi controller? Lots of weird design choices
It's not being advertised as a midi controller. You are missing the point entirely. This is a player's instrument, a keyboard with new and revolutionary dimensions of expressiveness. It's not primarily a sound designer's instrument, although the engine is very powerful if you have the guts to dig in. It's not about having a bunch of knobs with which to futz with the envelopes and modulation. This is a keyboard you want to play with both hands; your fingers are the envelope, the modulation. To come at it from conventional measures like this is to be amazingly obtuse.
@urbanorangutan idk it just seems like a lot of weird design choices were made. I think for me my biggest gripe is the fact that it's only 49 keys... If I'm trying to get reeeeaaallly into playing a keyboard especially one with this much expressiveness I would have like at least one more octave. Maybe they'll release a bigger one down the line who knows.
All of these sounds are available for Free in Logic Pro. The key wiggle trick is cool, but you could always use a pitch bend wheel or foot pedal to achieve the same thing.
Not exactly. Doing vibrato with the pitch bend is difficult. The mod wheel vibrato when programed is cool on this instrument. But the cool thing is the adjustable key wiggle. It is like playing a guitar and doing finger vibrato. In other words, it has soul.
You are both fantastic guys, but lately the synthworld is being expressly hyped up by mostly 'normal' developments, overhyped, overpriced and underwhelming. They just should have named this thing 'expensive' it fits the bill.
A yo b fall back it’s a good way of knowing how something sounds if you play the same thing you’ll know what to listen for. Hater let’s see you play as good he’s does don’t you listen to the same songs over and over and watch the same movies ridiculous pal.
when mike is here i smile

I for one welcome the Mike Patrick channel!
We need Mike in the VGM scene. His memory of video game music is too pure!
Mike with an Expressive E Osmose, now THAT is a dangerous combo!
It's lovely to hear a synth demo with somebody who can really really play!
Fantastic.
Where is Jack! 😢
Doing what he needs to do as a professional musician. Probably touring / gigging. Wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back when he’s finished.
@@matthewgaines10 - exactly that!
James Arthur tour.
He has already done a bunch of videos on this
it‘s going to get awesome when Mike P. is at Andertons
Sometimes, the "wrong" note sounds not because you've misplaced a finger, but because the "press glide" is enabled for an interval larger than the one you're playing - e.g. if press glide is set to three semitones and you play two notes a tone apart, the Osmose will give you the note in the middle.
#BringBackJack- Where is he? 😭
On Tour - with James Arthur
Impressed by the sounds in this demo. Many of the early demos I heard had the cheesiest '90s general midi-sounding sounds, but these sound promising.
I could watch Mike play all day. He's great. Top stuff as always 🤘
Loving seeing Oz in front of the camera!
Casual dropping the Zelda Kiroki Forrest 12:00
It's shop theme
I cannot put into words how much I want and need one.
Fun to hear Mike try the Osmose!
What sets the Osmose apart from the other synth keyboards out there is that it follows the mechanics of a clavichord over a piano!
Wow what an incredible midi controller.
And what’s even worse, it’s a really interesting synth too!
The sound engine and performance parameters are off the planet…. 🎹🌌
got mine a few days ago - it’s beyond incredible!
Me envious? Hell yeah 😂 enjoy
Exactly what is? Is there more than adding some vibrations?
I'm a guitar player but absolutely love these videos. Is there any way you could possibly create an overlay on screen which depicts the notes/chords being played, sort of a live tab type thing ? Would love to 'borrow' some of these wonderful voicings etc.!
I second that!
I would love to see Mike play the new seaboard which I think is every bit as expressive.
I would love a demo of the Omose, but not for its synth, but instead as a MPE controller with some high quality sample libraries in Kontakt and else… just to see how much control we could get on some Strings, Brass, etc… There’s pretty much no video that demonstrates that.
I would love some new FM anx 16 way samplepoly touch patches for these montage patches made just for this using this as the controller
Wonder how this compares to a roli seaboard
This makes me very curious about what other functions Osmose have, very impressive.
whats being played during the grandmas garden portion?
@12:01 , Ahh! the memories ❤👍🙂
What's over looked is that this is not just a controller keyboard. Sure it's the main selling point, but it's much more.
49 keys is too small for what i do. If they had 88 key or 76 version i would buy it right away
Absolutely. 49 notes is a joke on an instrument where the keyboard is the main element.

I want this Thing so much now :)
Does anyone knows what music is on 4:45?
Hahaha the Diddy Kong Racing!
I would love to see a 61 version of this keyb
I don't think this is a good way to answer the question, "does it live up to the hype?" Surprised Nintendo fan here. Thank you!
Give Mike an instrument for 1 or 2 months, i would like to hear how it plays afterwards, on 17:33 the bass is nice..
I don't deserve this keyboard! I'm not a good keyboardist, I'm just a drummer who noodles. "Damn it Jim, I'm just a country doctor". Ordering!!!😯😆
It is a great instrument and the cheapest way to get the haaken engine.. saving for one 😂
What is the song at 18:50 , is it from Final Fantasy?
That's Kass' theme from Breath of the Wild
😯 I want
THANK YOU MIKE PATRICK FOR PLAYING ONE OF THE ELECTRIC PIANO PATCHES!! I’ve been dying to hear more traditional sounds on this but no one seems to want to mess with them 😂
True! It has some electric piano like presets.
Mike Patrick is the don
The start remibded kecwhen i bought a roli seabiard which i sild eventuallyhas it was too hard even on low settings to keep in tune so it sounded bad didnt like the first few sounds on this either its good mike had not played this cause ither reviews have all been oeople whojobviously spent large amounts if time learning it.

Just sounds like it’s out of tune to me. Last thing I need
Mike you are incredible, best keyboard player that plays YAMAHA you are an icon - but PLEASE BRING BACK Jack! or at least have Jack make a farewell video. i have been watching Jack for a decade and learnd a lot from him. you cant just take him out :( please @Andertons

the bend can be set to way more than one octave for us extremophiles 😅
Grandma's Garden sounds like Harry Potter's Hedwig theme.
Those patches in the last bit of the video.. Can you make those downloadable for my Osmose
I’ll wait for a midi keyboard that does this same thing for a quarter of the price. Not in love with the sound in this unit and don’t see justification for the price.
Yea around 2 grand for what it is iffy.
5:14
It requires a different level of playing to use. A piano for guitar players. The layout is more logical for piano / keyboard players.
⚡️
Needs at least 5 octaves given that the key feature is the keyboard.
Don’t think of it as a keyboard. Give it a try, and you’ll probably realize all your work learning traditional keyboards gives you an edge, but you need to treat this one as its own thing. In my opinion, at least.
Perfect for film scores I think.
somebody can sample that and easily make that melody a hit 4:13
you mean like phil collins another day in paradise? coz thats what it was
@@ianfantomx7 yeah. Thanks for letting me know
Awesome that’s my next hit😊
😎
this vs Seaboard I can't decide
Linnstrument is the main competitor IMO, not the Seaboard.

This is rad. This with immersive sound is going to be nuts in 10 years
Yoooooo….Mike with the OOT jam lol
As a guitarist dabbling in this channel, watching keys players like this makes me realise I'm a fake musician
Sounds like a DX7 and that's not good. Still a bit of a gimmick for my liking.
sounds like the wiggle does a whole step. it really only needs to wiggle like microtones
Looks very minimal and for things like sound design this things screams menu diving. The actual keyboard itself looks cool, but that strings patch was completely trash

You are absolutely wrong. Please stop spreading false nonsense.
It’s polyphonic I thought as well as the aftertouch.
So your controller must have those features.
Confirms to me that the bending feature is utterly useless.
I woudnt completely disregard the expressive performance angle of this gear. For the price though idkkkk
Seems like a nice boy but where is Jack
We want Jack back, but Jack is weg (german: means „gone“ or „away“
You are both fantastic guys, but lately the synthworld is being expressly hyped up by mostly 'normal' developments, overhyped, overpriced and underwhelming. They just should have named this thing 'expensive' it fits the bill.
it even sounds horrible
Where’s Jack?
Doing his ‘day’ job - touring
Shit is fire!!!!
Now where the heck is Jack? Expecte he must have been on vacation or tour or something but now that's a bit too long isnt't it?
Maybe its cool for preset surfers but as someone who designs their own sounds, that egan matrix software editor is rediculous. No thanks you guys
Ka..me..ha..me.. ha..............!
Is it me or does he play the same things on every single demo. Kinda getting tired of it to he honest 🤷♂️
A yo b fall back it’s a good way of knowing how something sounds if you play the same thing you’ll know what to listen for. Hater let’s see you play as good he’s does don’t you listen to the same songs over and over and watch the same movies ridiculous pal.
Wow what did he play at 2:50 ? That was beautiful on the strings
