Went back over this and yes, you definitely want to mute the A string all throughout the intro part. Also you want to avoid playing the high E as well. Great tune! Was actually me and my wife’s wedding song.

It's funny you say "You know it's in the Key of D whether you know it or not" because the one thing I hear in the verse chords is the D string ringing out in the middle of all of the chords. Love it! Edit: After going golfing yesterday (Shot a 93 and played OK, but went out of bounds too many times to actually have a decent score), I promised myself that I would practice guitar today. I haven't picked it up in a few days. I see you posted, so I figured I would learn a nice softball sunday tune. I quite like the song afterall... The problem is that now I just keep playing this song over and over and still don't want to practice. Much like golf, playing is just more fun than practice, and I'll mark it as a win that I picked it up in the first place.
