They were pretty much the only honest post grunge band. They weren't even trying to imitate the original grunge groups that much, they're the only post grunge band that I think in any way holds a candle to the originals and they were the only ones not blatantly ripping them off. I love Nirvana/Soundgarden/Pearl jam/etc, but collective soul tbh was my first favorite band.
Why are they considered post grunge if they were already on the scene while Seattle was pumping out the Kurt Cobain's, Layne Staley's, and Chris Cornell's of the world? Are they post grunge simply because they weren't from Washington?
@@chosen_remnant While I think that the term "post grunge" more accurately applies to bands who showed up on the radar from the midpoint of the 90s and on--and Collective Soul's music mostly doesn't sound like grunge outside the blue album and "Shine"--I'd say that because no one had heard anything from CS before 1993, they tend to get the label with the idea that they followed the first/main wave.
I sat next to Ed Roland on a 3 hour flight. I didn't even recognize who he was because you don’t expect to be sitting next to a legend on any commercial flight. I only knew because I had my tablet and was listening to my playlist and scrolling and just got done listening to some Sting and my playlist had some Collective Soul songs that came up back to back on my headphones and I had volume up kind of loud. He tapped me on my arm and I thought "Oh great some guy going to give me shit about how loud the volume is" He asked me about what other music I had on. I told him I was listening to Collective Soul and I asked if he liked them, he told me "sometimes" in a joking way then he said he was the singer. It took me a minute to process and I was like "this is crazy" I then showed him some pictures of one of their concerts I went to when they played with Goo Goo Dolls, which is another favorite band of mine. I asked him if he could sign my tablet, he didn’t even hesitate, even got a picture of us on the plane. I still have it and it’s in a frame with the picture we took. Going to see them again live this September.
I'm from 1960's, Beatles then Zep, Floyd, the who, ZZ, I was spoiled rotten with the best rockanroll of all-time but these guys made some great emotionally charged music like this song.
50 Times?! I've seen them 4 times in the last 25 years and I think I'm done. Saw them in 2000 and it was the original lineup and was fantastic! But then saw them in 2018 and twice in 2022 and now they don't deviate from their hits even for headlining tour shows and it's frustrating. No deep cuts or covers other than the one they learned for that current tour. The FB fan page is full of people sick of hearing them cover REM 'The One I Love'. And Ed is a total diva onstage. I'm still a fan, but I'm going to ever pay to see them live again.
I remember this song being ubiquitous back in the 90s … got so much airplay (local pool, grocery store) and it became a summer anthem for me. Even today sometimes you will get lucky and hear it playing when you walk into a store.
It’s like hopping in a time machine. Takes me back to the great times when everybody was still in their younger years. No Drama. Just living LIFE!! Cheers to the 90s!🥃
When I went to Florida years ago I wanted some albums of this band went into a Mall and was looking in the rock section not a sign of their music so I went to the sales guy massive big coloured guy and asked if he had any Collective Soul? Yeah he says took me to the R&B section low and behold the band. I asked if he had listened to them opened the CD's I was buying and said have a listen, damn he says I will move them. The World I know was a song I hummed to myself while diving looking over the edge and seeing the depths and ocean. The band are amazing the new CD is great as well.
Damn, this takes me back. They brought sincerety to the post grunge era in a really refreshing way.

Super cool. He seems like a really down to earth guy. Hoping to see them live soon!
I haven't listened to Collective Soul in years and now I want to binge listen. I used to have a bunch of their CDs. They were really good.
They are still really good. 🙂
Always still good..❤

1997 My first Collective Soul concert. Music Hall- Houston, TX. Fast forward 26 yrs and 50 Collective Soul concerts later and they still rock!

I basically pay just to see them play The World I Know. I just love that song. IMO it’s the best radio hit of the 1990s.
Sounding impeccable live. 👌 ty for posting
This beat has a hair raising effect that only 90s tunes can give you. Such a pleasant, stellar sound.

They sound great. Haven't heard them in ages. Thanks.
Awesome 90's act. Geniune post grunge
I saw them live several times.. always good.. this song sounds almost like classical music..
If you don’t get it you don’t fucking get it
I’m sure many don’t give a damn what the song is about

Ed sounds as good today as he did back then. Great band!!!
Ed's brother isn't even plugged in. No wonder Ross quit
What was the reason of ross quiting?
Ross did the dirty - had an affair with Ed's wife.
Ross was fired about four years after this, unrelated to Dean.
