Welcome Back! I am glad to have your videos back. Your voice and teaching has always been a blessing. In an arena where instruction is rare, I am thankful you are back. I hope the cleanup has all gone as well as it can for you.
Hi Darryn It's great to see you back. 😊😊.... I hope you've been able to sort out everything in the bindery.. I took up book binding just about a year ago, as a direct result of watching your videos.. I always hoped that you would be able / willing to post new content, and (happily) here we are... Again "welcome back" 👍👍
So good to see you back again Darryn and hope you and yours are all good. For some reason the world seems a better place with your calm and gentle voice in it again. I always used to use waxed thread when I first started but now I buy it unwaxed and like you will give it a quick run over some beeswax to reduce tangling/knotting.
Yes!!!!!! I’m so pumped for this! Welcome back. I’ve been practicing while you’ve been gone. 15 books all in all. So happy to have something new to get into!
Like everyone else, I’m so glad that you are back! I enjoyed this video and especially love the little bits of history you slipped in. As for thread, when I tried making a dot journal after watching a few of your videos, I couldn’t find any linen thread similar to what you used without special ordering it. So I ended up using heavy duty buttonhole thread from my sewing kit. It works great and can be found in most hobby/craft/fabric stores. I’ve made all sorts of journals since then. Thanks for the continuing inspiration and instruction.
Yes, a lot of people do prefer to use them. I use the square ended teflon folders when making boxes. I think they are a bit soft when trying to make crisp folds with paper and prefer the real bone folders and just make sure to only make contact over the fold.
You have no idea how happy I am to see you back, I've missed your content so much. Glad to see that you were able to get the bindery back up and running.
Hi Darryn, your videos helped me get through lockdown all the way back when and I was can't tell you how happy I was when I saw this. A big thank you from Ireland!
I always wanted to learn bookbinding. Now that I'm retired I have the time. I checked out a few of your other videos and realized that there is a lot to learn. I'm glad that you have an index where I can find out more about a step I'm not familiar with. Since I know next to nothing about bookbinding, I'll start at the beginning.
Hi Darryn! I guess you get the message that people are glad you being back . Hope you wouldn't get wet feet again. If it wouldn't be on the other side of the world, I'd send you one of my pressing tools I made for my son. As a woodworker I have great fun to make tools for bookbinders.
What a joy for the new video after this long break! I join everyone else - your tutorial videos have been invaluable! They are so helpful - clear and understandable even for a beginner. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you so much from far away!
Welcome back! Hello from Dallas, TX. Thank you for this video. It's very informative and you've explained all the steps so thoroughly. Please keep teaching. You're a natural.
Welcome back!! I'm glad to see you're doing well and back up and running. This newest project couldn't have come at a better time since my own current project is a set of case bound books. Looking forward to following along~
So happy to see you back ! Folding against the nook to have perfect edge alignment is genius. Folding is slower, but it is good to get this precision when you can't recut the margins. And thanks fot the story of the cased book. I never made the link with the invention of wood pulp paper, and thus the creation of a "new" kind of book.
Great to see you back. I hope everything is OK for you. I really enjoy your teaching style. Combining the history and background with the practical demonstrations of the techniques. Thank you.
Oh, my goodness!!! I’m so happy you’re back!🎉I was actually getting worried and couldn’t find a way to message you directly to make sure you were well❤❤❤
Welcome back Darryn! I can't describe the joy i'm feeling having seen that you started uploading again. Nearly everythihg i learned about bookbinding i learned from you or materials you pointed me towards. It's great to have you back.
Woohoo! 🎉Welcome back! So nice to see a new video of you pop up in my notifications. I hope all is well (and dry!) in the bindery. During your absence I saw so many of your videos -and got into a deep rabbit hole on paste papers, especially Herrnhuth papers. (I am still in the hole, looking for further literature!) 😳 Thanks a lot for all the work you do to make these available. Schmedt tools are the best -and also an investment! I am excited to see how this series of videos on rounded and back cased book progresses. I will be here for it! Thanks again.
I do need a new visitors book. It was very sad throwing the old sodden one away. My big lesson from this is to use waterproof ink or pencil for the visitors book.
You made my day with this new video. I missed your teaching a lot and felt sorry for your problems with the shop. I was afraid that was something with your health. Meanwhile I got better on working with leather because I like the binding with that material. I still have a problem with applying gold leaf on leather cover of the book. Most of the videos I found do not explain well the technique, just show how skilled are the bookbinders.
Welcome back! I started bookbinding in the time since you last posted, heavily helped by your videos. Really excited for the new content and glad you're able to be back at it!
I can not explain the joy to see in the notifications that you had uploaded a new video 😄 . On behalf of several Spanish-speaking people, I want to thank you for coming back after such a long time, thank you also for the knowledge that you share with us in each video and for the time you take to explain each element in great detail.
You're very welcome. Thank you for the kind words. Carrie does a great job fixing up the English captions which I hope means the autogenerated translations are better.
"A lea is the number of yards in a pound of linen divided by 300. I'm not kidding." I love your videos so much. I'm getting back into binding, so your updated series is perfect for me right now. Cheers :)
Thank you so mush for your videos! RUclips reccomended me one of them once and I was trully surprised of how much information about bookbinding does your channel have. I have always been an amateur in bookbinding, but my books look much better now, after your valuable advices.👍❤
Hi Darryn, well its really great to you back on youtube, I do hope this finds you well, and that you've managed to get things sorted. take care and all the very best !!
Welcome back!! We could only watch with horror all the flood damage over your side of the country. The resilience shown by affected communities has been amazing.
Thank you! I've only done Coptic bindings for very large old textbooks that I've re-printed at home on my printer, but I want to start cased books next. (With Coptic bindings the weaver's knot always goes inside!)
You're welcome. I wish I could add historical information for other countries, but I don't have the background. It would be great if some bookbinders from different cultural backgrounds would make similar videos. Happy binding! Darryn
Since you've been away I've had my nephew build me a bench hook(?, I have called it a book bench!), a book press and now have designed a verticle paper storage unit since I have listed space. I've also been making book cloth and getting ready to try making a book as you are describing here so thank you for the timeliness of this video. Perfect!
Wonderful to see you back! Your channel is what made me pick up bookbinding properly during covid, after a hiatus of a few years after my first case binding course. Wouldn't dare to call myself an experienced amateur binder by now, but I've certainly tried a bunch of strucutres and techniques I wouldn't if it weren't for you, and I do think I have a much better understanding of what I am doing after watching your videos. Don't think I'd have joined my local amateur binder's club if it weren't for DAS Bookbinding, either. Thank you!
Hey , so happy to see you are back 🙂. I was wondering if you are ok after the flood . I hope you and your family are doing well and thanks God you are back :)
I was thrilled to see this vid, and clicked on it but thought "oh I don't really need to watch this, I know this part fine" but ended up watching the whole thing anyway because you were so interesting with the history and little tips. Welcome back!
Amazing series to learn bookbinding. DAS is a great teacher. Clear and detailed explanations every step of the way. Highly recommend it, it is worth the time and effort! You might want to start with the square back Bradel series like I did to get your feet wet and move on to the round back Bradel when you have the basics. Good luck!
thanks god you come back
I cant tell you how relieved I am to see you posting again!
Welcome Back! I am glad to have your videos back. Your voice and teaching has always been a blessing. In an arena where instruction is rare, I am thankful you are back. I hope the cleanup has all gone as well as it can for you.

Thanks! Great to be back.
Omg, HI!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 So glad you’re back! It’s like hearing the voice of an old friend… 😊
So good to see you back again Darryn and hope you and yours are all good. For some reason the world seems a better place with your calm and gentle voice in it again.

15! Well done
Those opening words!..."Today I'll start a new project". What a pleasure to see a new video, and to hear your voice again. Everyone wins.

Good to see new content. Have been missing your calm voice and precise expertise.
Me either love his calm and gentle voice❤
OMG I've missed your videos SO MUCH! Welcome back, and I hope things are well with your home
so glad to have you back! I'm ready for another adventure in bookbinding!!!
So good to have you back! I use a Teflon bone folder when folding my pages. They leave no trace nor shine behind. I hope it helps someone!

So happy your back!! I hope you'll give us all a shop tour and I hope you and yours are ok.
The joy of seeing a new video from DAS show up in my feed! Thanks for continuing to be one of the best bookbinding resources on the internet.
For me it is “the best”. Tell me others
Absolute legend!!!
The master has arisen! Thank you for your continued service to this community. You have helped us all so much

I'm glad that you have an index where I can find out more about a step I'm not familiar with. Since I know next to nothing about bookbinding, I'll start at the beginning.
that's what I did, starting with the simple pamphlet bindings. This series is the best on the internet.
Hi Darryn!
I guess you get the message that people are glad you being back .
Hope you wouldn't get wet feet again.
