Yeah, I agree with you that Nations League is amazing tournament for useless friendlies, but we need to get in this qualifiers best 12 teams and just do draw. Pot 1:best 4 teams(e.g. now Croatia, Italy, Poland and Israel); Pot 2:5-8(Bosnia&H, Finland, Iceland, Norway); Pot 3:last 4 teams(Ireland, Montenegro, Sweden and Armenia) and it would be good, but now, it's better to relegate from League B to League C to be there...
As an Irish person, as much as I want to see my country qualify, I'd honestly just see us lose in the playoffs regardless of who we'd play against because that just seems realistic with the way we've performed in recent times.

I don't necessarilly agree, while Ireland situation is rather ridiculous, the fact that C and D leagues nations have a tiny chance of qualifying is great. As you said you only improve when you play competitive games, and what better competitive scene is there than Euros or WC ?
Maybe D league should play a preliminary tournament to see which one get awarded the play off spot like they do in the Champion's League for the last 4th ranked leagues.
I want the Euros to be filled with teams that have earned their place. Obviously Estonia would have to play unbelievably to win their playoff path, but they've only got there by coming top of a group with Malta and San Marino. Feels cheap.

fair enough but what I think he meant about competitive games is playing a team in a match that wont be one sided so they can improve insteaad of being battered all the time like san marino who have only won one international game i believe

- Scrap UNL Playoff Qualifying and have the 6 best performing 3rd place teams in the group enter the play off
- then have 3 2 legged matches

I was actually at the game which at the time of the this comment ended about 4 hours ago give or take, and i will tell you the scoreline is very deceiving, it was so much more interesting then you think, yes ireland screwed up so bad badly in most of the chances they got but they got quite a few chances and even some great chances at scoring, as with the netherlands in my opinion it coulve easily been 4-0 and no one would question anything. i hope this helps with a real time viewers perspective. also i want to give some love to the irish they gave great atmosphere even after going 1-0 down in the 12th minute and i think you guys are great much love from the Netherlands
Basically, the planets have to align in such a way for the Republic of Ireland to get a playoff spot. Also, I'd rather integrate the Nations League further in the Euro 2028 qualification process (which in and of itself would be a mumbo jumbo as per UEFA rules only 2 host nations can automatically qualify and for Euro 2028 the hosts are 5) - have the Final 4 of League A qualify directly for the Euro 2028 tournament. And Would rather make League D a single group of 6 or 7 teams since it has the least number of teams

No I don't think they will, but the RULES encourage to do that.
In my opinion, ONLY group winners should be taken into account for playoffs path formation (with one exception). We can have the following scenarios in Leagues A to C:
a) No group winner qualify directly: playoffs as they are now
b) One group winner qualify directly: the other three group winners enter the playoffs. The best of them qualifies directly to the final
c) Two group winners qualify directly: only the playoff final is played
d) Three group winners qualify directly: the only group winner plays the best group winner of League D if available (in descending order: top priority to League A, than B, than C) or the best second placed team from the same league
d) All four group winners qualify directly: all the second placed teams enter the playoffs

If I rooted for Ireland, i’d rather have them play their best.
If Ireland does beat the Netherlands, it won’t harm the Netherlands much as the Dutch only have to grab a point against the minnow Gibraltar. Therefore, whatever the result of NEDvIRL is won’t practically affect Ireland’s chance of qualification.
Now, why would I want Ireland to put on the best effort? Basically I’d skip 2024 Euro and focus on the next major campaign, 2026 World Cup qualifying, in terms of preparation. Getting positive results will increase their FIFA points, climbing up the FIFA Rankings. The point would be to attempt to climb up the pot allocation in hopes of getting the best group possible.

I don't think any team will use relegating to league C strategy since it will work only for one year, and then they will have to win their group in league C to have a chance at play offs, and at the same time they will promote to league B again.
AND I really like that the nations league gives smaller teams a chance to qualify to big tournaments. We had Georgia in Euro 2024 thanks to this system and it was wonderful!

Nations league is total bullshit
While I find Nations League useful, I oppose purely including of Nations League rankings for play-offs. Just like 2022 WC qualifiers, 10 third placed teams from Euro qualifiers should be added first and 2 best group leaders from Nations League later.
Because of that format, Estonia, a team that never won a match in 2024 qualifiers would qualify for play-off because of League D performance; but Sweden, third placed team from the same qualification group was eliminated because of poor League B performance.

But that defeats the purpose of the nations league. It has (outside of money) 3 main functions.
1. Having the big teams play eachother more often in a serious match.
2. Giving a Back-up option to sub-top teams who had been unlucky with their group.
3. Giving smaller nations something to play for and ultimately becoming better teams.
Hot take : I personally like the play-off via nations league as they are. I’m aware that teams like Sweden, Norway have 0 chances to make it even to playoffs. While Estonia has already a place. Because it gives more excitement and upsets

I don't think giving a chance to lower leagues to participate into a major competition goes against the sports spirit. Because a nation can have a good year while the last system suggested requires a buildup of several years just in order to get into the world cup. We don't have to gorget thoose are not football clubs, thoose are national teams

How are the rankings determined for the play offs? Iceland for example did not win a single game last nations league but is ranked above Norway who had a arguably had a better performance and is ranked higher by FIFA so how did Iceland place above them?
Because Russia withdrew, results in the other groups against the 4th-placed side don't count towards the rankings
@@StatsUnited Russia was barred from entereing, but that's a whole other topic. Norway loses 6 points from their 2 wins vs. Sweden and even though they have 1 win, 1 draw and 2 losses, compared to Iceland's 4 draws (fun fact only Iceland and Estonia went undefeated, with Estonia having 'perfect' record which considering that the opposition was Malta and San Marino it's not a shocker) they are behind Iceland due to an inferior goal difference (-2).
