- The Hypertherm Powermax45 XP Plasma system will cut up to 5/8-inch mild steel, stainless, and aluminum. In addition to cutting, the Powermax45 XP will also gouge and mark.
Setting up the Hypertherm plasma cutter is so simple. Just plug it in your 240V outlet, provide compressed air supply, attach the work lead (ground), and torch lead, then you're ready to cut. Cutting is smooth and consistent.
Controlling the Hypertherm Powermax45 XP is very easy as well. You only have one dial and one button. The button offers you two options: cutting and gouging/marking. The dial allows you to choose Amps from 10 to 45. Based on your selection, the Powermax45 XP automatically adjusts the air pressure.
The Powermax45 XP has an MSRP of $2,300, but you can find them discounted to $1,900.

Best review I have seen yet on this power max 45. Great job explaining all the functions. I’m still on the fence between the 45 and 65. But after watching this video. I’m leaning more towards the 45 ... you brought out some excellent points about how versatile and easy this unit is to use , thank you for a great review

I have owned my Powermax 45 (not XP) for over 5 years and love it. It is rock solid, easy to use and a good life on consumables. While the XP can do marking.. I don't have a need for that and actually never even thought about it. The auto air, is a nice to have but it is so easy to just adjust the air myself that it is second nature and is one less thing to break or take care of. I do use a filter before the machine just to remove the gunk from the air before it gets to the machines filter. Plasma puts less heat into the work and has much less distortion on thinner stock. It will also cut anything that can conduct electric current so yes to Stainless steel, Alum, rusty metal even stacks of metal at the same time. Oxy can't do any of that!

Ok, now very important for me, regarding cranking it down to 10 Amps: what is the thinnest sheet metal gauge i can cut on cnc table (DIY made) with 45XP? I'm considering this model as a plasma source for my home shop but my concers are how will it cut sheet metal i.e. 0.5mm thick?
Did you use the torch as a hammer?

Easily max capacity, just run the CBC head according to the speed and amperage charts. I run the 45xp on my Cnc and have no probs cutting (in some cases severing) even beyond its rated cut capacity. This machine I say 1/2 inch all day long every day. It will cut 7/8 or 1” but of course diminishing capabilities at those sizes but can make it happen in a pinch
I have primeweld 225 Tig also ( great real happy ) I just today got a primewld cut 60 did not use as of now ! can't wait ..I got the primeweld 60 because the 60 is realy a hot think ( they work > great for mony you can not bet it . I have a Langmuir sys plasma talble on order -- you have to back order them , they are so hot now ..will not be here till like step. 2020 the now crossfire pro. talk about can't wait !!! little kid in me stand by the door waiting for the UPS truck . I call my UPS driver Sant Claus he loves it ..ck out the L/S plasma table let know what you think ? thanks
