I've got no place for golf club snobbery with my game. I readily admit that I need all the help I can get, and not enough ego to reject anything that lowers my usually high score. This game is all about improving yourself and having fun. Using blades would kill both those goals for me. Many other Golf channels seem to concentrate only on the top end professional clubs and irons. Thanks Andy, for showing what's available to us (below) average golfers.

    • @jonq8714
      @jonq8714 2 года назад

You're not below average, you're precisely average. If you look around on most public courses, everyone there pretty much is horrible with inconsistent striking due to absolutely nightmarish swing mechanics. Those that know what they're doing are few and far between, at least in my experience. Now I started out this summer (my first season taking the game seriously) as one with nightmarish swing mechanics and by the end of the season through watching trainers like Mike Malaska, Rob Cheney, Michele Low I was able to get to the point where I almost can pass as someone who knows what they're doing (about a 15-18 handicap). Still, I don't have time to practice to get to scratch, and game improvement irons still make sense for me so I'm considering these clubs to shave some strokes. These, along with an armbar putter can hopefully get me shooting in the 80's consistently.

My wife comes in from the garage at about the 4 minute mark, heard the music, and me breathing “Ooh Yeah” as I looked at those Cleveland wedges.
Without hesitation she yells, “Are you watching a skin flick?!”

Really good video, thank you. I live in FL and after struggling with chipping/pitching off of tight bermuda grass lies with a low bounce wedge, I sucked up my pride and bought a 14 degree bounce with wide sole and it's helped a bunch. We also tend to get soggy fairways from all the rain and it's helped on those 80-100 yard shots as well. Long story short: your summary is spot on. (I'm a single digit capper)

    Andy,
I am glad to see you bring up these wedges and the "chipper" and show how easy they were to use. I also feel that too many of my mid/high handicap golf buddies are "Legends in their own minds" and think that even though they almost never spend time practicing their short games or bunker play they all have "players wedges" in their bags and get frustrated with how many shots they give away from 100 yards in. If they would only shelve their egos and look at the reality of being the type of players they are, and look at redoing their wedges to a more playable option such as what you have presented in this video, maybe they wouldnt be reaching into their pockets at the end of their round to pay out instead of putting some green into their pockets! Keep up the good work!
By the way, after your reviews of the Mizuno STz fairway woods, I got fit for them and I can only Thank You Sir, they are absolutely outstanding!

Just got myself fitted for wedges. It wasn't a super in depth fitting, more or less I hit a few different wedges picked the ones I liked best and we add an inch of length. Everything else seemed good as standard. We settled on 50° 56° and 60° for my best gapping off of my 43° pitching wedge. I got Cleveland. Cbx2 in 50+56 and cbx full face 60. I haven't had a chance to hit them on the course yet due to stormy weather. But I'm really excited to get out there when the weather breaks.

Put the G and SW of the smart sole in the bag this year and I can’t fault them, there performance has been great, there so easy to hit and when down at the ball look just like a normal wedge. I have them in the bag along side a 54* CBX and a 60* RTx 2 cb. I play off single figures and couldn’t care about ego when it comes to clubs, if the perform and do the job, they’ll go in and stay in the bag. What’s worse, the look of having a big sole wedge in the bag or duffing that thin, pretty vokey on the course 😀

I have a Maltby version of this style of wedge in a 60 degree. It is a game changer; so much easier to hit. Way more consistent for me off turf and in sand. I am a mid-handicap golfer and have no problem bagging a “game-improvement” wedge.

I'm playing the CBX 2 in 48º and 52º. I have a lower bounce 56 with a thinner sole for bunkers. I play out of a lot of wet, packed river sand bunkers and the sole of the CBX wedges is just too much for those shots. That's possibly a technique/mental problem on my end, though. In fluffy or loose sand on nice courses, they're a dream. But the majority of my shots around the green I play with the CBX 48 or 52, or a 9-iron. They work! Currently I'm at a 4 handicap.

Just today I had a couple of the easiest birdies in my life. I have the smart sole chipper, it replaced my p wedge. I hit a nice 120 yd tee shot with it, 2 feet from the pin, tap in and move on. Later, on a 300 yd. par 4 I hit a nice pitch up hill from 25 yards that ran right past the hole, but left me 6 feet away. You can hit full shots with these and I have found it easy to do so. I will be ordering the Gap wedge soon!

Ok so this may sound nuts but I suggest folks try this. The 42 d C wedge can be hit using a full shot swing, flys really high, straight and long can be used as a full wedge replacement over 100 yds! Like it so much the first year it came out I ordered another and experimented by adding an inch and a half to the shaft and had it bent to my lie -2 angle by Cleveland which they can do if you order from them. I don't care about the looks. Its impossible to chuck this wedge! Easy to play half or quarter swings just account for roll out. Now if I feel like replacing my irons I replace only 7 8 and 9 irons. I use two hybrids / woods for the long clubs and this C club as PW thru Gap replacement. 54 SW and the 58/60 low bounce CBX2 match well. When I get the urge to replace irons it doesn't cost a fortune. Also you learn more by playing one club in various distances right down to the chip chocking down on the longer shaft. EGO feels good when I take $$ from my golf buddies.

After the experience I've added a classic (14° bounce) Sand Wedge for those bunker shots that really need an almost flat open club face to get the almost vertical launch when close to the face of the bunker. But for every other shot these two clubs have made a world of difference in confidence from 90 yards and in, especially the delicate shots from rough just off the greens.
As a senior now playing off 20, this has been a game changer now I cannot quite reach some greens in regulation.

CBX2s and smart soles are far easier to use than the TM big foot. I had the bigfoot before switching to clevelands

If a club or clubs are aimed at high handicap golfers help so much why wouldn’t a say scratch golfer use these? Or any club used at high handicap golfers? So say why blades? Or these clubs you’ve just reviewed? It would be really good to see a scratch golfer use a bag of say “forgiving” clubs,. Now that would be interesting. Would they score higher or stay the same? Hhmm

What everyone needs is a good schooling on BOUNCE. Nobody seems to know or care these days. With the proper bounce, which nobody uses enough of these days, it will make all of your wedges so much easier to use. NOBODY talks about that number. My 60 has 14 degrees of bounce. The average these days is just 9. This is why nobody can hit them. I am a 12 handicap, but my wedge play, especially right to the green can beat most pros. I have seen guys but used wedges on line and not even ask what bounce they are. These needs to be talked about and to be honest, the Average Golfer here is probably not schooled enough. Just know that about 99% of all golfers do not have enough bounce on their wedges. This includes the pga pros.

If you aren't good enough to play a set of blades, then don't buy bladed wedges because hitting a pitch shot off of a tight lie from 35 yards is 3x as difficult as hitting a full swing shot with a blade. When you can break 80 regularly, then consider bladed wedges - otherwise, play wedges like the Cleveland CBX2, Ping Glide 3, Mizuno ES21 wide, Taylormade Bigfoot - and if you can't break 90, then play the Cleveland Smart Soles

Utter kak, I buy with results first, otherwise where’s the improvement and therefore sport? If it brings down my score, I’m all over it, especially a chipper.
