    Back in 2003, there was a huge James Bond exhibit showing at the Henry Ford Museum here in Detroit. It too had all of the props and the Golden Gate Bridge greenscreen(my cousin and I pretended to stomp on the passing cars on the monitor) and even a climatic scenario of needing to disarm an exploding reactor. Also, both the Vanquish and Jaguar from Die Another Day were on display there, I remember my little brother running past the rope stanchions and getting into the jaguar without us or the staff knowing. LOL
    Since then, there hasn't been anything like it there, it was truly a once in a lifetime experience.

    Calvin, I felt that wave of nostalgia with the Moonraker VHS. The first Bond thing I ever owned was Live and Let Die on VHS. I recently dug it out and felt rather emotional. I remember watching all the VHS films with my late grandfather as soon as he would purchase me a new one, and we would look forward to piecing together that image on the spine of the video collection. Incidentally, I have every single book you showed in the video and I used to LOVE pouring over The Essential Bond.

    Like you I got into Bond at a young age. Just by accidentally catching an ITV screening of For Your Eyes Only. Previous to that I didn't know Bond existed. But I was hooked straight away, and was amazed when I found there were so many others to catch up on! Like you I also bought any Bond magazine or article in another magazine, as in the pre-internet age we were so hungry for things we didn't already know, you'd buy anything on a whim. This also went for some books.
    I also have some of my VHS recordings of the films off ITV, as I like to still watch the old ads as they take me back to watching the film as a kid! They really set the scene. Along with some of the wonderfully dodgy editing done by ITV so they could show the film on an afternoon! OHMSS and YOLT also used to get routinely chopped up for time reasons. That cigarette rocket launcher was a genuine surprise to me (I just thought Bond wanted a cigarette) as the earlier scene of Tiger demonstrating it was cut out. As was Aki's murder, as I didn't know SPECTRE were sending assassins into the camp. Also the whole safe cracking scene from OHMSS was cut, just because Bond is reading Playboy!

  • @rkb4571
    @rkb4571 4 года назад +1

    Calvin, watching this was very nostalgic, because you and I are about the same age and I became a Bond fan in much the same way. I had the Spy Files magazines, the old VHS collection (not the full set, some taped off TV) - that exact one of Moonraker which I got in my Xmas stocking in 1999, and I also became a proper ‘fan’ through reading The Essential Bond, which as you quite rightly say was a Bible of sorts in the days before fast internet and helped me develop a critical eye for the films.
    Many thanks for this clip, keep up the great work.

    Álright. I once owned the issue on James Bond of the German magazine "Cinema". That was either around A View to a Kill/Never Say Never Again or a little later during the Dalton era. One of the first records I ever owned was a title song compilation whcih included all the movies up to For Your Eyes Only. I owned the soundtracks to A View to a Kill, Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, and my personal favorite of them all: On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I remember playing with a matchbox version of the Lotus Esprit in underwater mode with the fins sticking out. I also vaguely remember playing James Bond with a Walter PPK toy gun. I remember wearing a shoulder holster. That was still in the 80s. Long time ago. I bought some of the Bond paperbacks in the late 90s or early 2000s. Today, I only own some DVDs. Didn't care much for Bond from the Dalton era on until, I think, I found this channel. I hadn't even watched all the Roger Moore Bond movies until recently.

    - 2 sideshows figures that I kind of don't care about anymore now that I bought 12 years ago .
    -The funko pop figures they released , not a big fan of the funko but it was a cheap james bond stuff.
    - The Bluray collection, no VHS or DVD, I couldn't afford them, I had the movies on the computer before.
    -The Lego car, I like it for the gadgets even if I think they made it too squared but it was fun to build and Lego doesn't lose a lot of value with time.
    -2 posters only , postcards I bought at Bond in motion exhibits .
    -DB5 keychain that I use every day because it's made for that and not to stay in the box.
    -Bond related t-shirts not very official I think .
    Writing all of that makes me realize I have some stuff around ahah but I Don't have anything that is out of the ordinary like YOUR GOLDEN GUN !! :)

    We were obviously of a similar age, I had the 007 spy files magazines, (I'm sure I got a pen that had a built in microphone) with the magazine
    I also had Bond magazines that you actually got a model car with each magazine, each issue told you about the car but it wasn't just the cars you would expect some used by enemies or played little role !
    The other items you have obtained are pretty neat ! I have some of those also haha 😋

    One of my favorate bond things was a large hardback book by DK called 'The secret world of 007', it's a great book you should see if you can get one. Also have you ever visited the Beaulieu national motor museum? They had loads of amazing bond exhibitions over the years with the cars and other props. You should check it out in case they still have any of them

    It's always nice to go through old stuff and then spend way too much time being nostalgic about it XD. The Special Edition DVDs are still my favourite because of the covers, booklets and custom menu's for each film, but what on earth did they do to all of the Roger Moore pictures lol. I mean I thought The Spy Who Loved Me cover one was bad, then I watched Moonraker yesterday (yes, I'm still going through them all lol) and that picture of him on the booklet, well that is what you would get using early naughties Photoshop I guess. Cool collection though, enjoyed the video as always :)

    This was great. I think we’ve all had similar nostalgic experiences going through our collections over the years. My childhood bible was Rubin’s JB Movie Encyclopedia. I too started with VHS and have made the various releases and book editions my main focus as there is a surprising amount of variance in some of the video transfers.
    I laughed out loud at that tv magazine because I still have a random old one I saved from years ago.
    Since you’re heavily into the Bond games I think you’ll be thrilled with TWINE N64. It’s the dark horse favorite of Bond games because so few ever played it and it was an N64 late release. The graphics and controls are first rate for the system. While the single player campaign isn’t the greatest and can be extremely frustrating, the game comes alive in the multiplayer and is without a doubt the best Bond multiplayer of all time. Great weapon variety, some truly great maps and great controls that fix the Goldeneye quirks. The golden gun mode is phenomenal. This is the game I take to parties or do tournaments with as it is much easier to introduce new players to and runs much more smoothly than Goldeneye.

    Fun video Calvin..some really cool items there - brought back a lot of memories of my collecting days as I had many of the items you have. Didn't have the replica gun though. Some items I couldn't afford. Most of my collection had to go in a house move including nearly all the original posters signed by dear Desmond... Q which I sold on ebay. Lovely man. I've stll got 4 that he signed. Had a really nice trading card display mounted and signed by Lois Maxwell. Met several of the Bond actors the only Bond I met was Roger Moore on his theatre tour. Had those videos and that DVD set and the books on the films. Still have the poster book I kept that because I had a thing for posters. I thought that might be worth something in future years..but I just looked and it selling for £3.50. One thing I regret losing was a cinema display for The World is Not enough it was like a giant vinyl double sided poster with giant portaits the main characters that ran along the spare room of my old house it was awesome. It saved me on wallpapering and paint. When you got bored of the pic I'd flip it. I didn't have that magazine though..that was for younger ones like yourself.

    I never collected much in the way of props or posters but I have a lot of the same reading material as yourself. I collected the Spy Files and have one entire set still in the wrapping. I have the Essential Bond book (same edition up to TWINO) and remember they often gave gave their opinion - I believe they claimed that Tomorrow Never Dies was a better film than Goldeneye 'on almost every level' and remember thinking that was a bold claim! I actually picked this up before I'd watched every film in the series and used it to pinpoint the films I wanted my parents to buy for my birthday (on VHS of course!) Also have The Art of Bond.

      Fantastic! Well, I would recommend going through from the start to the end, but, if you wanted a top 5 that I would recommend for a first time viewer, then; Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, GoldenEye, Casino Royale

    Hey Calvin, I’ll be in London in about 5 days. Other than Bond in Motion, are there any other things a Bond fan can’t miss? I’m from America so I really gotta see all I can on this trip. And maybe some restaurants you particularly like, not necessarily Bond related of course?

    • @davidjames579
      @davidjames579 5 лет назад

      There are some locations around London from the Bond films you can check out. I won't list them all, but you can easily Google it or look on IMDB and then use Google Maps. You should def have a look at the real life MI6 Building, that gets blown up in Skyfall and Spectre. It's still intact BTW. It's location is no secret, it's even listed on maps as Secret Intelligence Service Headquarters! It's across The Thames from The Tate Gallery, and The National Intelligence Centre from Spectre, which is really Riverwalk House. Also Whitehall, as that's the exterior for MI6 HQ in the Moore films. The Royal College Of Arms from OHMSS. Sotherby's Auctioneers exterior as featured in Octopussy. The O2 Arena in TWINE.
      And Stanley Crescent in Notting Hill, which is the street Bond's flat is located on in Spectre. And if you want somewhere to eat: if your budget stretches, you could dine at Rules Restaurant, where M does in Spectre.

    I love finding random 007 stuff stored throughout the house. It's always a nice surprise to open a box and find something Bond-related that I didn't remember I had. I had Moonraker on VHS but the actual tape itself had the label for Octopussy instead. I miss those days! ^_^

    I had the movie poster book and I think a different James Bond-them Empire magazine, and still have the Legacy book (though mine is slightly damaged), The Essential James Bond (had 2, maybe even 3), and playing cards- all gifts. Had a few calendars over the years too, and me and my brother had remote control cars from Die Another Day (that we couldn't really use because they shared a signal so we kept controlling one another car, not to mention there wasn't really much space where we lived).
    Also had the films on VHS, but currently have the DVD collection in a silver suitcase (and the Craig ones separate, along with 60s Casino Royale and NSNA; have Casino Royale on DVD and Blu-Ray). Had a couple of the games too.
    I have a book you don't have that I recommend called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which is an unofficial look at the Bond films up to Brosnan (or mine is) including 60s Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again, goes into some depth about the production history of each film, and ends with them ranking things like plot, action, girls, villains, dialogue Bond himself etc and finally a rating (although they give Licence to Kill a bad rating because while they think it's a very good film, they don't think it's a very good Bond film). Makes for a good read, and also where I learnt that one of the early censors for the BBFC who gave Bond the go-ahead was a dude called Trevalyn, which must be where 006 got his name from.
