    Wow, that sure brought back the memories. Was a Plane Captain with VF-124 at Miramar from '73 to ''76. Trained and deployed VF-1 Wolf Pack and VF-2 Bounty Hunters as first fleet deployed squadrons. Also trained the Marines until they dropped the F-14 for the F-18. Got treated as royalty on the first carrier quals on the Kitty Hawk and Ranger. Got to talk to an Admiral and a couple of Captains, telling them all the capabilities of the aircraft. Everyone wanted their picture taken with the new Tomcat. Watched the son of the Shah of Iran saddle up and take a test flight before the big F-14 sale to Iran. Got to sit in the RIO seat during a high-power turn up at midnight. Will never forget the sheer, unbridled power of those twin P&W turbofans. Thanks for the trip back in the Way Back Machine!

      The GE engines made that plane into the beast it should have been without the bureaucratic BS. Those PWs were made for the 111, didn't like the quick and abrupt throttle changes. Tendency to flame out.

    60,000 lbsf of raw thrust from those GE-110 in those F-14B. The most powerful fighter US has ever produced. Also, Keith "Okie" Nance recently said, he pulled 12.5G turn in the F-14 and the airframe had absolutely no stress damage. He paid rich tribute to Grumman Ironworks. It truly was built like a tank.

    It is a sad, sad reality that I will probably never again see a live F-14 demo.
    As cool as this simulation is, you can't replace the rumble of those jet engines reverberating through your chest as it passes overhead. The smell of jet exhaust, the excitement in the air and the pure spectacle of it all.
    The only thing better than seeing a flight demo in person, is flying it in person. I'm blessed to have gotten several, several rides in my step dad's plane, and in a few demos in my life. I miss it terribly.

    I remember in 2006 when we were staying in the cabins on Lighthouse Point on KNPA, a Black Lions F-14 was giving flights to (I guess) students and sailors on some kind of retirement flight. After being used to T-6s and the occasional Goshawk and odd F-18s, the sound woke me up and I went outside to watch it from the point.
    As it kept flying I eventually went over to the museum and walked back to the "flight line" where several others from the museum had gathered. I had seen several Tomcats but I don't recall ever seeing one fly. They were tearing it up. At the end of all that, the plane was parked on the "ramp" outside of the West wall of the Blue Angels atrium. I got up the next day and walked over at about 0630 and walked around it. Touching it was like touching a massive living creature. I had seen one fly and now I was alone with it as it rested after it's career. I remember it was still dripping oil and JP.
    Seeing this reminded me of that. I really enjoyed it and I guess I need to go get DCS now.

    • @HiTechOilCo
      @HiTechOilCo 4 года назад +1

      Well said Kyle. :) The F-14 Tomcat was and is a very special plane. The engineering and technology that went into were first rate and very innovative, especially with its swing-wing design, which provides a phenomenal combination of high speed and excellent maneuverability. No other plane in the world can do what the Tomcat could and can do. Sadly, it was retired after the cold war was over and long range threats from Soviet bombers no longer existed. Unfortunately, the powers that be that cancelled the Tomcat program were not very forward thinking and now, just a few short years later, our aircraft carriers are now facing the very real threat of long range anti-ship missiles. To counter this threat, a very high speed interceptor/fighter is needed to be able to intercept enemy planes that can launch these anti-ship missiles. Both the F/A-18 Hornet and F-35 the Navy currently is using are about 400 mph slower than the F-14 Tomcat, leaving them comparatively very deficient in defending our aircraft carriers. That's a huge speed advantage the F-14 Tomcat provides and can make the difference between one of our aircraft carriers being hit with anti-ship missiles or not. The need for the F-14 Tomcat has once again arisen, if that need ever even went away. Grumman has the next evolutionary step of the F-14 Tomcat all ready to go in blueprints. It's an amazing, even better plane than the F-14 Tomcat and is known as the F-14 Super Tomcat. This plane needs to be built and the sooner the better. As a side benefit, building this plane would put thousands of Americans to work at a time we need that most. Here is the link to this outstanding plane; www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/29653/this-is-what-grummans-proposed-f-14-super-tomcat-21-would-have-actually-looked-like?fbclid=IwAR2gopwZXDPcnQsK7GLiqt1Clf-DFMi5VesHRAUjcQRmy2GH-ndkm36fKmk

    "You love a lot of things if you live around them, but there isn’t any woman, and there isn’t any horse, nor any before nor any after, that is as lovely as a great airplane, and men who love them are faithful to them even though they leave them for others. A man has only one virginity to lose in fighters, and if it is a lovely plane he loses it to, there his heart will ever be". - Ernest Hemingway August 1944

    i wish they would bring this amazing aircraft back. with new radar and targeting, more modern materials and composites to make it lighter, more powerful engines and maybe even throw some thrust vectoring nozzels on. this thing could be the scary power house it was all over again. A testament to how well it was designed.

    • @kitsunelegend7976
      @kitsunelegend7976 5 лет назад

      @Crusader Ace24 Nah, personally I think an "F-14F", with all new materials, better radars, deadlier weapons, more powerful engines, and a better understanding of production could be WELL worth every penny cent. Especially compared to something like the ugly F-35 piece of junk we got now.

    I'm hoping so much that this beauty arrives on 21st December. This would be the best thing that ever could happen. Maybe this demonstration shows how confident the developers are to present their aircraft in a nearly ready state and just teasing us...

      But if HB doesnt get it out on 21st... well that would mean plane wasn't ready and it will came fully polished. So... not bad too... :p
