    What are your thoughts? Is the G100 the perfect small MFT camera? Let me know!

    • @katesavage2001
      @katesavage2001 18 часов назад +1

      I have been on the fence as I have the GX85 and like the stabilization it has. I have added the G100 to my cart at sites only to removed it from my cart. I have the G9 II and really want an updated small MFT camera with a image stabilization, an EVF, and more MPs along with the updated autofocus.

      @ImageMaven  17 часов назад +1

      @katesavage2001 You’re probably good with your GX85 for a while yet. If I was you, I’d keep it and save your money until the perfect camera comes along. But do what works best for you!

      I fall in and out of love with the G100. As a photographer (mainly) it takes great pics using primes. The kit lens is ok, sharp but not a lot of dynamic range, it works well on sunny days. I used it to take sunset pics whilst using a bin as a tripod, the sunset pics were awesome on the kit lens only 3200 ISO. I still like my oly em5 iii as the go to everything, throw in your bag, take overseas, snap the fam cam. Can't justify the S9 upgrade, but I just want panny to give me the G100 with stabe and get rid of the cross hairs for people pics and replace with an eye tracking box...........

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven  15 часов назад

      Yes, stabe is lacking for sure but it’s amazing what I’ve shot with these little things. For now I’m still in the love category. Hopefully get there with the S9 too, although I’ll likely have to send it back soon. Nice to have a Full frame to use again though. Would love to have a small wide angle prime for it. Thanks for chiming in!

      @@katesavage2001 I bought the GX9 as an upgrade for the GX80/85. Has the better sensor (and ibis) but don't think it has the improved auto-focus. And the evf is small ...

    I bought the G100 used in late 2023. It was my first LUMIX micro four thirds camera. A few months later I sold the g100 to “upgrade” to the G95. I travel and wanted a capable travel kit that was smaller and lighter than my full frame Sony kit. I was very happy with the performance of MFT on my Europe trip. I was so impressed with MFT that I just re-purchased the G100 (used again) for hiking and backpacking. The G100 with the 12-32 and the tiny 35-100 make for a light, small and really capable kit. I can even bring the 9mm if I want to do some astro. I use the Sony RX100 for backpacking but the G100 is much more versatile with only a bit of extra weight. The G100 is, indeed, a great little camera.

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven  17 часов назад +2

      @@gallivantingwithtomshirley2261 That’s quite the camera story! And the G100 has Live View Composite, so you can have lots of fun with it doing Astro too. Cheers!

    Hey there. Your video is proof that subject and composition are far more important than the gear. One point that might be helpful to others watching would be to talk about the overall cost vs just the camera cost. As I'm personally learning, an expensive camera with cheap glass will not yield the best results. But an affordable camera with good glass can produce exceptional results. Most modern cameras are actually really good if you understand how to use them. Most of the issues someone might have, especially in your environment with plenty of light, would come down to the glass. Having just spent a small fortune (for my wallet) on a trio of pre-owned GH5 MK IIs and some new OM Pro Lenses to go with them, I can verify that good glass makes all the difference.
    Anyway, keep up the good work, and thank you for the inspiring video.
    Cheers
    Rick

    Marlene, thank you for this video. This camera is a marvel. It has been the best-selling M43 camera in Japan for a long time for a reason. I own both the G9-ii and the original G9 (the most advanced M43 camera ever designed in my opinion), and I have owned the OM-1; but the G100 is my everyday carry and my travel camera of choice. Its only weakness is that it doesn’t sync well with external flashes for some reason. For travel, I prefer to carry two G100’s with two different lenses than even my wonderful G9.

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven  4 часа назад

      We seem to have the same kit. I still have the OM1 but I’m still not warming to it compared to the G9 and G9ii. And yes, I agree with you about that flash issue.

    • @joseiovino
      @joseiovino 3 часа назад

      @@ImageMaven Except for the flash-sync issue, the images out of this camera are as beautiful as those from any other Lumix camera; indistinguishable from the images of the fancy-pants G9ii, and even (if you know your technique well) from the S-series cameras. Paired with the Panny 25mm f/1.7, or with a Pana-Leica 25mm f/1.4, or the wonderful Sigma 30mm f/1.4, the images that this little marvel produces are sublime. Paired with the Sigma 52mm f/1.4, the G100 is my favorite (and super-portable) portrait kit. And it has the 4K and other computational photo features that more recent Lumix cameras lack. It is also a superb macro camera since it fits anywhere.
      [Marlene: I never warmed up to the OM-1. It feels great in the hand, but the OM colors don't speak to me. Also, the OM environment lacks something super-important that all Lumix cameras have: The ability to adjust all parameters from the app while taking a photo.]

    I bought this camera a few years ago. I agree with everything you said. It is a perfect daily carry, as well as travel. When I don't want to lug a G9 around, this is what I take, and quite frankly, I don't see a difference in image quality. Of course, there are fewer dials and buttons, but it's compact and sturdy. I want people to continue talking this camera down. That way, I can get a second for a cheap price😉

    Great video and fantastic action photos. The G100 is great for photo's, but for video I find it not so good. The 12-32 kit I found has bad OIS for video. With what lens did you shoot the skating videos in this video? I guess the old mega OIS is not great, also have problems with the mini 35-100 in video. Now I am back home I gonna compare with my 14-140 lens with power OIS.

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven  12 часов назад

      I think most people will agree with you about the video capability. But it’s good enough for skateboarding. I have better cameras for other purposes if needed. I shoot skateboarding with a variety of lenses. 7-14mm, 9mm, 15mm but mostly the kit lens or the 15mm as I always keep the basic kit in my bag in case anything exciting happens.

    I'm glad I'm not the only that does that (loses stuff and goes through every scenario to figure out where it could be only to find out it's nothing benign). I thought I had lost the grip for my newly purchased G100 when I first ever used it at a school reunion (40 years hence). Hubby picked me up as I was a wee bit pickled. I felt devastated when I couldn't find it, however, I found it 6 months later, under the passenger car seat. Irony though, no stabe so I don't use it! I also went troppo looking for my Oly 45mm, I gave up looking for it, even scoured a replacement, but never committed to one. Then weeks later I was drinking a cuppa outside and rested then finished cup on on a 3ft corner garden wall where mondo grass grows, the cup dropped down into the grass. I reached down to look for my cup and found my lens hiding under the grass. Fortunately the lens survived the dry Aussie weather! I love that lens for taking portraits.

It’s also quite fragile and you can’t just drop it in your bag like with other cameras. The workflow seems a bit faster though. Hi Marlene: You would make a great salesperson for Panasonic. I enjoy your videos! A question for you thoughts. I just got into m4/3 about a year ago with the purchase of a used EM10 mkiv. Really love it but not the 14-42 lens which was very unreliable so replaced with the Lumix 12-32 which is brilliant. I am looking for another body and leaning towards a splurge on a used em5 iii or better. This video kind of made me want to swing over to the G100 especially at this sale price. Are the stills that you are embedding in your video SOOC jpegs? or RAW that was edited a bit? They seem a bit brighter - though not necessarily better than jpegs from my em10. The two brands generally seem to have sliightly different colour renditions. I guess this turned into more than a simple question - sorry, I must also be Canadian eh. Any thoughts you care to share would be greatly appreciated.

      Most of the those skate photos are edited a bit, and some I’ve really pushed over the edge for dramatic purposes, as you’ve likely noticed. And I’d say 99% were shot jpg. So that accounts for some blown out highlights. I haven’t used those smaller OM camera bodies, but you might want to ask the gang on the Micro Four Nerds facebook group. There are a whole lot of more experienced OM users there. Sorry I couldn’t help you out more.

      @@GrahamNorth-g8h I own the OM5 and before that also had the em5mkii. As always the question I would ask is what do you want to use the camera for? Why upgrade or add a second body? I also own 2 GM1 cameras (1 converted to infra red) I do not take any video. The reason I would choose the OM5 over the 100, is weather sealing and ibis. It has lots of other clever computational features but I rarely use them, but the weather proofing does have a lot of value to me. The issue with that of course is you then need weatherproof lenses that tend to cost more and be larger. I also highly value the ibis for travelling without a tripod, and the pairing with my phone works very well and is a feature I use. If you mainly /exclusively shoot photos, but don’t need weather sealing and ibis I would save your money and buy the 100. You will find the raw files from both are unlikely to disappoint. Hope that helps. Pete

      @@petegleeson1 Hi Pete: Thank you for sharing your ideas. My priorities are small/lightweight for travel as well as good monochrome for B&W shooting. More recently I have been shooting birds at a nearby sanctuary and so the addition of the pro-captures of newer, higher end M4/3s has definite appeal. Regarding other features the EM10iv acquits itself very well. I will give further thought to my purchase.

      I like it a lot. Nice and compact. I hope to dig deeper into it in the next few months. I’d like to try and get a wide angle prime for it. Hope to find something small, as I want to keep my kit as light as possible.

    Got the g100 earlier this year. My first camera that lets you change lenses. Wasn’t expecting the manual zoom. Are all “real” cameras like this?

    • @ImageMaven
      @ImageMaven  5 часов назад

      Yes indeed. Most real cameras lack power zoom but I think there’s a few lenses out there that still have it. But you’ll soon get used to it. If you don’t want to zoom you can get a single focal length instead of a zoom lens. Enjoy your new gear.

    When it comes to Lumix - Marlene is the place to go. I have two problems. I am technically challenged and impatient to listen to teachers.
    Marlene is not a "teacher" or a "professor" - the latter being the worst solution when it comes to teaching.
    This lady is a professional photographer and passionate about passing on her own acquired technical and visual proficiency to those who are prepared to listen to her expertise. She has a way of making you forget that you learn - since her "teaching" is a mix of passing on professional knowledge and simultaneously entertaining you with her charm, smiles, and wits.
    Thank you, Marlene.

      Thank you for your kind words - I’m so glad you’re enjoying my style of videos! I actually was one of those professors in my past life. Loved the students, but didn’t care much for the rigidity of “the system”. So I have since tried to find a better way to share, teach and connect with photographers and creators here on RUclips. And it’s much more satisfying doing photography and RUclips just for the joy of it.

    What do you do with all these cams? When I buy something new, if I already have a previous version, e.g., a laptop or cam or phone or anything else's, I pass the older to my siblings or relatives or even anyone who might want to have it! By the way, for free or at quite a cheaper price (of course, I don't sell to siblings, or relatives)!

      We keep them to make videos about! 😂 Actually, I traded one of my cameras for some artwork. But the GM1 and GM5 are sitting in storage. I hope to sell them one day.
