That is "Evo-Stick" petroleum-based glue. When it gets hot it turns brown and exudes acid. It's the first thing I look for after bulging capacitors.
BTW you WILL fit a proper ceramic safety fuse, won't you? I mean three strands of wire are OK for testing on your knees to see if it blows your balls off but please return it to customer in a safe condition.

Isn't it dangerous to replace a fuse with wires? What if there was a short circuit on the output? You will also risk the life of other working components. Am I missing something here?
Yes, you're absolutely correct. I would not want this kind of shit work done to my tv, which is why I own a soldering iron.
Would have been good if you explained more as you went along, like which settings your meter was on, what you were looking/listening for when testing the rectifiers, few times there you were thinking about something but never explained anything. Otherwise good to see something fixed even though I didn't learn anything.

Hi great informative video. I have a vestal power supply voltages jumping up and down. I notice on the hot side the screws are isolated but have ceramic caps across the isolation I thought ac passed across caps. If cap was shorted could this cause voltage variation, many thanks.
Hi Sorin, look like a varistor blowed by surge of voltage and became a short to burn the fuse before that surge reach the motherboard...

hi its the glue they used when it gets old and brown it gets conductive hence burnt capacitor etc it shorts everything out in time clean off old glue then its plain sailing from there

Could someone please explain how he used the first capacitor found on a spare board, without mentioning or checking its value? I am trying to improve my knowledge, and would really hesitate to just solder in any old part without being sure it's a match.

Looks like that nasty brown glue absorbed moisture and corroded everything. I hate that stuff. Thankfully they use mostly silicone now.

The replacement was very obviously smaller.
The TV will probable leak more noise into the mains network.
So you are using old used parts out of other sets to do your repairs? Why don't you keep a stock of new electrolytic and ceramics around they are not that expensive?. A specialty part like a coil or a heat sink sure I can see taking off an older used unit. Those caps can dry out after a long period of time so if you don't know how long those parts have been sitting it could fail again.

i have a dead samsung tv with a bn44-00482a psu...i have two of the psus...both same issue..the voltage drops and i can hear a small ticking sound!...the icm801 was blown away and i replace it but still the issue..i cant find the problem and there is no short on the power rails.
coming with the low ticking noise the voltage drops! go high and down...seems like some components cut the voltage every few seconds!

He used a couple of strands of fine gauge wire, which DOES create a fusible
link, though it may or may not protect as many downstream components from
over current damage, it very likely is enough to keep the P/S from catching fire in a short circuit condition. Maybe fuses are not cheap and readily available where he is, but, you're right, it seems like a rather sketchy and unnecessary modification of the original design, anywhere fuses are cheap and readily accessible.
I doubt that 6 amp fuse was OEM... Probably an attempt by the last person who opened it, to see if just replacing the fuse with what they had on hand, would make it work again.
I agree. Maybe a 60" old plasma could use such a fuse but not a relatively small lcd.

The original safety fuse wire was in a ceramic tube for a good reason. It's not clever to replace it with even a glass fuse - never mind bare wires! In many countries you could be prosecuted. A fuse should ALWAYS be replaced with an identical fuse.

Hello, Can the Samsung Exlink port be used to reset my TV? The reason I ask is because my remote stopped working so I changed the batteries (installed them correctly), tried a brand new Samsung remote still not working. I tested the remote by shining it into my cell phone camera and it is blinking red. the IR light on the TV is lit. I then did a stupid thing by accident- when I was trying to use the jog switch to reset the TV, I locked the TV parental locks, so now my TV is set to one channel and I have no control to adjust volume, on/off, etc. I am out of work right now and trying to fix this myself. TV is only 3.5 years old model number UN50H5203AFXZA MHO1. I tried a hard reset by unplugging and draining power to both the TV and the remote. Now I wonder how I can reset the TV and to unlock it by using the EXlink port on the back of the TV. Any help is appreciated. i have a generic question any idea on how to diagnose the main logic board on these tvs. problem is i cant find the MLB to just replace it and there is no schematics for the tv that i can find. the tv gets power but no image i have like 10 to replace for a college but i could only find 3 logic boards, any help would be awesome

sir LG LCD TV doesn't have a separate power board and everything is on the same logic board. My LG LCD Tv goes out while I am watching. I don't know what happened. it has no power and not powering on. tell me how to identify power problem of such boards.
this seems to be a temperature fault. Maybe working with freezing spray and heat air gun could help to locate the fault

how about repairing plasma 43 inch samsung capacitor blow 102/1kv located beside the power regulator ic in power supply/ inverter board and got replace the same parts but

Did check the regulators and mosfets on supply line rails check the optocoupler, and check diodes, check for open resistors and filter capacitos check on primary side because you missing secondary outputbvoltages check chopper, and the transformer also

Well it seems you are very efficient in what you do, but the way you try to "teach" in your "school" is not. Waoooo!!!! this is the second video I see where you put AN OLD PART on something you are fixing. Do you charge full amount or give a discount because of this used parts? Are capacitors THAT EXPENSIVE that you can afford to put NEW ONES?

Sorry to thumbs down this one but no way should you replace a 6.3A 110v or 230v fuse with a piece of wire. A fuse costs next to nothing. That set could burn down someones home. I don't doubt your knowledge or capability, just your ethics on this one. A piece of wire that size may well blow at 6 amps, but it can also stay connected and excessive current could easily start a fire. Fuses are designed to open and stay open without flashing or welding together.

ur a repair man with all these expensive equipment yet you use a jumper wire for a fuse... even to test equipment you never use jumper wire to check .... from one thech to another thech invest on fuses ... you are causing a bad example on repair instruction.... as a experince thech i would have fail you big time... Never Never Never Never use jumper wires for fuse even if you just gonna check equipment... dats a desaster wating to happen

If he selects the right gauge of wire (very thin, in this case) he creates a fusible link that is sensitive enough to keep the power supply from catching fire if another short circuit occurs.
Manufactured fuses are cheap though, and a person who does a lot of electronics repair should have them around...
I suspect that 6.3 amp fuse was not the original, (tried by last person who opened it with what fuse they had on hand) as that would be a LOT of watts for an LCD display.
Most I've seen are around 150-200 watts, which could be protected with a 2 amp fuse on 240 mains, or a 4 amp fuse on 120v mains.
thats right as long as the same size of wire and not too big and easy to blow theres nothing wrong with that it is pratical to use.. and if the power supply got fix you can replace the original fuse...
