Thank you! I wore a sweater (thrifted) today that looks great on me…but it was so itchy even through the shirt underneath! I’ll have to give this a try before I wear it again.
Cant wait to try that couse i just bought some incredible colorfull ombrelooking yarn and crochet myself a triangled shawl..and gosh its so itchy snd rough alrdy but ill finish it and gonna give this a try! Thanks for sharing
i got this very ecpensive scarf from turkey on etsy and its so so itchy. claims its merino wool which is supposed to be not itchy but omg it is. it feels like someone put itching powder all over it. i cant contact her because the store closed down after the earthquake and the scarf just came in the mail today. im really worried im going to damage it but i want to be able to wear it. its very fragile, there are felted pieces sewed onto it too and they hang off. ill try this but im nervous.
If you're worried you'll damage it, maybe don't take it through the process in this video. There are some wool rinses for soaking garments that help soften, I'd suggest researching that. Additionally you could line your scarf with another light fabric if it's conducive to that. Good luck. ~Shiree
Can this work with a crocheted scarf?? I'm making one right now and didn't realize the yarn was 100% wool until it started irritating my fingers. The yarn is beautiful but I'm worried I won't wear the scarf because of the itchiness
i just thrifted some sweaters and its covered in that fiber thingy (its white and like fine thread? fur?) and its so itchy so im just going through youtube and google on how to get rid of them but i dont even know what its called 😭😭
I'm not exactly sure what it is. The fur description sounds like it could be mohair but that shouldn't be itchy. There may be no help for the "fur" like sweater with all the fibers sticking out. The treatment to remedy the itch probably won't work. ~Shiree
In my video I'm relaying information that I learned in the article by Elyssa Goodman (credit was given). It says freezing prevents short fibers from sticking out. I've done the entire process on different sweaters and some it has fixed completely and others with rougher wool, it has helped a lot. Good luck with yours. ~Shiree
I from tropical country i doesn't know anything bout knitwear i just thrift randomly i tried the tip for twice and it's not working, from what i read it's said "italy yarn" and some Japanese word. Help me pls, if not it will stay in my closet forever.
I'm not sure how to help you. When I have an itchy sweater I go through the steps in the video. If it's not working then maybe there is nothing that can help the situation. ~Shiree
Lots of different reasons for it to be itchy. Mites and other critters don't like the vinegar and certainly don't appreciate being wet and then freezing! (Their eggs can sometimes survive freezing so maybe do this once a year?)
When I put on my awesome green specklesy wool sweater it makes everything on my body itch. From beard to... beard. I am shampooing and conditioning it haha. The sweater.
How much exactly are "few" tablespoons of vinegar?I already ruined expensive rare item with vinegar, so i want to know exact amount of 9% vinegar for 1 50% merino wool 50% acrylic sweater. Also, i have purple hair conditioner that is used to keep bleached hair from yellowing, will it be okay?
Regretfully I do not have the exact answer for you for your situation. I used distilled white vinegar and just poured an estimated amount of a few tablespoons.
Honestly I'm not sure because I haven't washed a sweater after the treatment. The garments I've conditioned for myself are outer wear, cardigans, and haven't been washed since. You may have to see for yourself. Interesting tid bit, the sweater in the video keeps getting softer. Thanks for checking out the show. ~Shiree
After you completed this steps will it be forever less itchy? And can u put it in the washingmachine and will it still be the same or do you need to repeat these steps again?
Since I’ve done the process I haven’t washed the sweater again. I feel like washing it would undo the process, removing the conditioner and “waking up” the fibers.
I’m abit scared for the vinegar part cause my sweater is from Versace I don’t really want to risk it…tried the conditioner though maybe I didn’t put enough
I’m a dude, I don’t know anything about hair conditioner. Any recommendations for a product that does not smell like a lady? (Preferably no smell at all…)
I don't know about that brand. When I purchased my conditioner I based it on the higher cost. It worked. Check review, and maybe ask at a beauty supply store. Best of luck. ~Shiree
I've used the process on two sweaters, one commercially dyed and the other was from yarn I dyed myself. The color was not affected on either one. ~Shiree
Itchy swimsuit seams are probably caused by plastic string... The only things you can do is either fabric glue small pieces of fabric over the entire seam inside or take it all apart and use a different string to sew it back together
Yes, that is what the sweater in the video is made of. Good luck and I hope it makes it wearable for you. I love thrift store shopping, I go every week. ~Shiree
Any high quality conditioner will do. Mine was Brazilian Keratin Therapy, but it has a strong coconut scent that is strong because so much conditioner is rubbed into the sweater. However it and the method work. I recently did another sweater that was very itchy and I can wear it now no problem. Good luck. ~Shiree
This trick totally works! Salvaged a green 50% wool 40% acryllic 10% nylon sweater that I thrifted. Thank you!
You're welcome! I'm glad to hear that it worked for you. ~Shiree
Thank you! I have a sweater from my grandpa that I love and want to wear but it's so itchy, I'm definitely going to try this!
Wow, that's really cool. I hope it works too. It will surely help. ~Shiree

Give it a try, wool is wool, it should work the same. Best of luck on that. ~Shiree
I’m trying this right now on a wool blend cardigan. It’s drying right now. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
I sure hope it works for you so you can enjoy using your sweater. ~Shiree
Did it work
Did it?
Update?
is it still drying
Do you think if I did this twice before I start wearing it again it would make it even less itchy?
I've never done it twice to the same sweater. If you try it and it does make it less itchy please let me know.
@@rehashfiber did you have better success conditioning the wool twice?

@@rehashfiber thank you for replying! i think im just gonna try using lint remover first and see if they can be removed as well.
Why do you have to freeze it? How do you know that the steps before it didn't make it softer? I just don't get how freezing matters?

3% sounds safer
I tried it on an 85% wool 15% nylon sweater and it's definitely softer but now it's shedding everywhere, the freezer didn't set the loose fibers
Interesting.
Do I need to do this every time I wash it? Or will it stay un-itchy even if I wash it?

Pro tip: don't wash it much. 😉😘
Hi, is safe to white on sweater?

Actual information starts at 2:00
Yes.
do you know if this works on acryllic sweaters\shirts?
No I don’t know if it will work on acrylic.
can i pat dry with towels against the wall while its hanging cus i dont have a clean large flat surface to put wet things on to pat dry!
I'd lay it flat to dry. Sweaters can streatch when hung to dry.
Thanks a lot!
You're welcome! Hope it works and you can enjoy your sweater. ~Shiree
I’m abit scared for the vinegar part cause my sweater is from Versace I don’t really want to risk it…tried the conditioner though maybe I didn’t put enough
Good luck.
Will this work if I messed up my Hoodies by washing to roughly? I usually throw all my clothes in there on cold and then heat on high.
It's a lot of work for a hoodie. Maybe try a fabric softener first. Good luck. ~Shiree
I’m a dude, I don’t know anything about hair conditioner. Any recommendations for a product that does not smell like a lady? (Preferably no smell at all…)
Try googling unscented high quality conditioner. That's what I'd do. Goodluck.
I love your blue walls! Pretty
Thank you.
How to soften my uniform saree it seems scratchy very rough
I do not know. I only know how to fix a sweater.
can i use apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar??
I would stick to white vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is brownish, and I'm not sure of the other properties. Best of luck. ~Shiree
Thanks!😀
You're welcome!
Would this work for an itchy cashmere scarf?
I bet it would, give it a try. ~Shiree
School high school uniform sweaters suck they are so itchy and no matter what I do it won’t stop itching
Sorry to hear it.
@@rehashfiber Btw your vid helped me get rid of the itch. thanks for thre vid
Does this work on jeans? My legs itch everytime I put on jeans.
I honestly don't know. I haven't tried it on jeans.
Do you let it air dry or do you put it in the dryer?
Air dry.
I don't know what's a good conditioner, is love beauty planet good or a no no?

Indeed.
does apple cider vinegar work the same way?
Honestly I do not know. My recommendation would be to stick with plain white vinegar. Good luck. ~Shiree
Just wondering if the vinegar solution will discoloring the wool.

Does it work with T-shirts to?
I have not tried it on a t-shirt. I don't know if it would be a good idea because t-shirts get washed often and the would undo the process.
@@rehashfiber oh ok
Can I use conditioner with keratin in it?
Honestly I don't know. ~Shiree
Do you use the conditioner generously or sparsely. Do you totally cake it on, or just rub a little bit in?
Use conditioner generously. Just make sure an ample amount covers every bit of the garment.
@@rehashfiber 🙂 Thank you. Thanks also for your loom warping method video, which i found very informative.
Is it hair conditioner?
Yes, hair conditioner. Good luck. I'm getting ready to do the process again on a wool sweater I just made that is itchy. ~Shiree

Maybe do it twice to get it fully done
