This was a really good tutorial.👍❤️ I have a large 10x14 faceted pear shape CZ I need to make a setting for and I've never made one. Due to lack of certain tools and material I'm TRYING to get creative and make it in a nontraditional fashion. Your videos have always been helpful so thanks for this tutorial and for the tip for cutting the pear shape properly! 👍
It's really pretty. I want to make jewelry like this. It is a stone that cannot be seen in Korea, so it is more visible. I enjoyed the video very much.!!
Beautiful and so easily explained. Thanks for sharing. One question. Do you pickle after each prong is soldered? I’ve been taught this but sometimes it’s just so time consuming. On the other hand, I’m afraid of ruining my piece, by not doing it after each prong. Thanks 🙏
These day it seems I try to make a piece every few months, usually after watching videos like this. Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing you knowledge. Question, any reason you couldn't set the front prongs first? Seems like it might be easier to get a finished look before the stone in there.
I guess you could do that but you would need to put the stone and frame into some thermal plastic to hold it all as you set the prong. This might also be hard to get the back prongs to be perfectly flat. I hope that helps
@@GomeowCreations Thank you and you always have time to answer our questions. I meant before melting do we need to clean scrap silver? I recently bought everything but still bit working to start melting still learning how to melt :). Thanks again Randy
@@GomeowCreations Perfect! Picked up the H&H and the tumbler. Thank you so much!! Your Videos are seriously helping me finish getting equipment I’ve needed for two years 🤣😂
No problem. Most of my videos have links to what I'm using. Also if you buy anything using my links I do make a small commission and it helps support the channel.
Depends on your setup and what kind of silver you're looking for. Are you needing it already in sheet and wire form or are you buying casting grain or bars to make your own?
@@GomeowCreations I'll be buying sheets and wire at first so I can get used to the material before buying casting grains and bars. I want to wait until I have enough scrap to justify buying a mill roller and a big torch setup. Thanks for replying, you channel has been a tremendous help in getting me started on making my own jewelry, I'm basically ready to go I just need the silver and solder at this point.
Thanks and if that is a problem with the speed you can slow down the video a little. The gear icon or 3 dots on the video will have playback options. 😊👍

So cool that you can make your own wire. The more i learn the more i want to know
Yeah it is very nice to be able to do that and I can't really see going back to buying it.

Thanks Randy, this might be my next project! I never considered using the square file to make a channel for the prongs before.

You can pickle it after each print is soldered on but you don't have to and should be able to do it all in one go without cleaning it
Nice design
Thanks

Your videos are great. Can you recommend a supplier for square silver wire. No roller mill yet
riogrande.com 😊👍
What a great tutorial. Do you need to clean metal before heating, to get rid of dirt and even patina? Thank you Randy
You need the metal to be clean when doing any soldering work and that is what your pickle setup is for. It basically acid washes the metal. 😊👍
@@GomeowCreations Thank you and you always have time to answer our questions. I meant before melting do we need to clean scrap silver? I recently bought everything but still bit working to start melting still learning how to melt :). Thanks again Randy
It's not a bad idea to clean it and use some borax as you melt it and you should be good.

What gauge wire was being used?

Thanks ☺️
Awesome

currently im trying to find the right flux for my needs, if i buy handy flux will this work? i just want to make pendants using medium and easy solder
Yeah handy flux will work. 😁👍
Oh wow! This turned out so great. Where did you get the hone and highlight? I’m struggling to find a good tumbler, Any you would recommend?
