    I strongly advise anyone building NOT to have so many potential lethal projectiles right behind the passenger and driver seats. ESPECIALLY cutlery and kitchen knives. The kinetic energy in the event of a crash will be devastating. Its a lovley van and a lovley couple, I want them to stay that way, not perforated like pincushions!

    Don' give up on your cycling dreams because of your knees! I'm not sure exactly what you knee problems are, so maybe it really is a lost cause, but cycling is low-impact and would likely help strengthen your knees. I've had knee problems (you can feel a dent in my patella from a car accident, among other issues), and by doing simple stabilization exercises and cycling I was able to build up enough strength in my knee joint to take up long distance hiking and running. The exercise was uncomfortable at first, but now my knees rarely bother me. Since my rehabilitation, I've hiked 1600 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail and did a 100 kilometer ultramrathon. The human body is amazing, so don't give up on your knees!

    I love where they put their kitchen. Normally you see the kitchen along the side of the van...they chose a different layout and it really opened up the space for them to have usable floor space. Love the idea. Great video...and best of luck to them both!

    So, after I got my doctorate, I got hitched. Then, I spent about 4 month as a hitchhiker--backcountry and beach camping through the islands of Hawaii. I lived out of me and my wife's backpacks. I think it's better to have less stuff in the van, even though the van has greater capacity. Otherwise, you're going to end up with a junktrap on wheels. Good luck with your adventures!

    Congratulations.
    Far from letting your heads drop after redundancy, you've turned it around and become inspirations to other young people. It's just the way you look at at a situation that dictates in which direction you want to go, negatively or positively. Since you've done this, you've probably learned more about life than you ever did before.

    There's a few safety issues though.Water above your main electrics and sharp loose objects directly behind your head.Sudden impact will have a steak knife poking out of your cranium.

    @judya.shroads8245 6 лет назад +3

    I love it. I took off and traveled in the USA, when I was younger. All young ppl should travel to see that your country has to offer. The sights and ppl that you meet and see are AMAZING. Do it ALL while you are young. Jobs, marriage, kids and mortgages can wait a while. The memories of traveling will last a life time.

    • @theserollinghills5151

    • @judya.shroads8245
      @judya.shroads8245 6 лет назад +2

      Sabina That is true. I thought that I and my dog would do the same traveling after retirement. That didn't work. My lovely dog didn't live that long. When I finally retired of 43 yrs, my mobility was very limited. So even plans have a way of changing. That's why I said to travel before jobs, kids, spouses, and mortgages. That way you get to travel with no encumberances. Go everywhere, it's beautiful. Be open minded, kind and watch your back, nowadays.

    Nice, the best bit about doing a self build is having the ability to fix certain things when they break. Learning the basics of 12v wiring, such as using the correct fuses, and also the correct gauge of wire is essential. Great video, they seem like a very nice couple.

    Hello from malta😎 nice build well done! We have a 1975 sprinter (changed engine as wasn't keeping up with the heavy good truck's on motorways!) She was originally from Germany where it had been converted to the basics..we put in the solar panels & generater in & kitted it out to make it look like home. We traval back & forth from Malta to the UK & back again every year & use it here as well for a change of scenery. The beauty of her being a small van is that we can park her anywhere!! If u ever think about visiting Malta check out goats on the road visiting Malta.

    I was going to do this as im sick of paying rent and not owning anything, so doing this and paying no rent for a few year while I save for a houe is really tempting to me! this or just a 4 birth Caravan

    Super cosy! The toilet in under the back bench and you have a solar powered shower, as well as mains for charging and lights... Super cool little set up! You can't beat the views you guys must wake up to... priceless. Happy traveling guys and stay safe xx

    Thank you, looks great. I like that you haven't also bothered with "mains" electric and stayed with the 12V.. It's much more straightforward and saves much power. have fun. :)

      P Healy > so no issues running the laptops? I guess they must use a cigarette lighter socket to power those. And you can get this power bar style type of thing to plug into that type of socket that has a couple of plugs in. I’ve had one for years in my tool box, no idea where I picked them up but I’m glad I didn’t toss it. He showed his coolbox which seemed like a mini fridge but I couldn’t tell if it plugged into anything or was more like a cooler to be used with ice or gel packs

      Yep, its so simple and so much more efficient, we see so many people running an inverter to charger their phones or tablets and it drives us crazy!

      there's nothing wrong with having support

      I didn't say there was anything wrong with it. I appreciate that they mention it in their video as many do not. AND too often in our culture in general people with hapless families or worse yet damaging families are expected to just get over it and worse still are blamed as if their xtra challenges are their individual fault. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG with leaving people a drift without support and then blaming them for not doing better. Our culture needs more social support for people who are not lucky enough to have family help and we need to stop comparing people with lots of help to those without "Look what they did; you can do that too." BS.

      Thrivalist: Totally agree! Having family support can make all the difference, and many people take their healthy, happy families for granted, not realizing what a privilege it is to have the wisdom and hands-on help of one's parents.The idea of "you can do it to" usually means, "you can do it too, with some support."
