Why My Dubai to Zurich Flight Was Rerouted! | TRIPREPORT | SWISS | AIRBUS A330 | DXB-ZRH | ECONOMY

- The story of how the current situation in Iraq and Iran and the ongoing uncertainty about a tragical aviation disaster have influenced my flight from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Zurich (Switzerland) in January 2020.
Welcome aboard of SWISS flight LX243.
Due to the current situation, after the tragical aviation disaster in Tehran,involving a Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737, and the political tensions in Iran and Iraq, SWISS as part of the Lufthansa Group will no longer use Iraqi and Iranian airspace for the time being.
Due to this decision, my DXB-ZRH flight was going to be rerouted and we would leave the airspace of the United Arab Emirates by using the airspace of Saudi Arabia on our way heading to Europe.
The resulting rerouting of my flight led to a longer flight time than planned.
Our flight time was going to be 1 hour and 20 minutes longer than usual, adding up to a total flight time of ~8 hours.

Iran Says It Unintentionally Shot Down Ukrainian Airliner
Iran’s military announced early Saturday that it had accidentally shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet, blaming human error because of what it called the plane’s sharp, unexpected turn toward a sensitive military base.
After days of tension since the jet crashed near Tehran on Wednesday, the same day that Iranian missiles struck American bases in Iraq, the admission was a stunning reversal. Iran initially maintained that mechanical issues had brought the Boeing airliner down, killing all 176 people aboard.

Great video, shame about the re-routing but good for Swiss for being safe.
The flight looks pretty uneventful, was expecting a bit more from the meals tbh. At least a hot breakfast!

I had a 4 hours connection in Zurich so for me there weren't any problems with the rerouting. It was pretty enjoyable to have a longer flight to be honest.

Its not Terminal 2, its Terminal 1. Terminal 2 here operates only low cost carriers.

Why can’t the plane fly over Israel?
I don't know why we flew precisely this routing to Zurich.
I only know that the pilots tried to avoid the Iranian and Iraqi airspace.
Maybe they didn’t want a Palestinian rocket zooming by them.
Flying the route like this one Swiss may stop serving DXB because they will see their fuel bill going up.

Very sad & depressing to see SWISS is not able to serve a hot meal not even on a 6+ hours flight. At the same time, Turkish Airlines catering is way better than this even on much shorter routes/flights.
Filippo B i don’t care about the food, i would rather get to my destination safely. I flew with Swiss from Dubai to Zurich and i got a hot meal, no complaints, i’m happy either way whether the food is warm or cold.
