I started photography as an Instax person so you know I love daylight balanced 800 film! I have used very little 800 35mm, normally going for 400. I’ve got several cameras that I’d love to shoot some of this with but especially my trusty ole Pentax Spotmatic II!
This looks like a nice addition to my film roster. I really like Flic Film's Electra for bright sunlight shooting since that aerial film gets such great colors. But this looks like it'll bridge the gap since no one makes a box speed 1600
so i just developed/scanned 2 rolls I just shot on a work trip, and i can confirm this is indeed portra 800. Same base as portra 800, colours, look, sharpness, grain etc.
Definitely some very exciting news (and thank you for the awesome demo/examples, too!) I hope manufacturers are rewarded for bringing new film stock(s) to the market! For many different reasons! 😀👍
I am also a fan of Portra 800 - used 3 rolls of it for Christmas photos this year instead of my digital camera. May have to grab a roll or two when I shoot through my portra stock on hand!
Intriguing! Looks like you two had a fun day of shooting! Coincidentally, I just learned of Flic Film’s existence yesterday, searching for a photography specific alternative to Cinestill’s Temperature Control System for C-41 processing.
I bought this as soon it came out before most stores were selling it (flic film is more or less local to me) and I’ve been waiting to see what it looks it and I am sooo excited.
it's portra 800 btw i pray it comes out in 120, because paying 35CAD a roll for film is insane . and if anyone from flicfilm is reading this please put your e100d in different cartridges. I have issues fitting it in my contax g1, and then the reel will respool after 25 shots and i lose a quarter of the roll.
@@reformedfilmlab as confirmed in my other comment, they have said it's not respooled point and shoot film/lomography (max 800) and they would say if it was tungsten based film. There is nothing else it can be. Unless they are making 800 ISO movie film now.
Looks like re-spooled max 800 to me. I'm 99.9% sure flic doesn't make film, but they do have a great setup for respooling E100 and therefore must have a decent relationship with Rochester. I'd be happy to soot a few rolls to compare it to lomo 800.
@@MeowjinBoo If anything, it "might" be Kodak Aerocolor IV. Very similar looking to me. I looked at FlicFilm's site to see how it's described and they don't say. Elektra is described as Aerocolor, and with the notice to load in dark environments, ie. light-piping tendencies.
i should probably add, its not unheard of to respool stuff and sign an NDA. For example. drug stores for years use to respool, superia under life, real canadian superstore, and other such films but noone knew what they were or what they come from. but it was clear that it was just superia, but slightly cheaper. Just like how LG/Samsung makes craploads of monitors but sell the panels to third party. They just wanna push the stuff and giving the illusion of choice on shels actually increases sales. @@MakersTeleMark
I’ve had your store bookmarked for the longest time (years) because idk if I’m committed enough to do film photography, but wanted to be a customer because you’re based in soflo (as am I); and I’m going on vacation later in the year and I thought I would finally bite the bullet and go back and research film to buy. It’s so cool you have a RUclips channel now! It’s so informative and great to see pics of the films used. When I find the right batteries for my camera, I’m definitely buying from you guys!
@@reformedfilmlab I have my mom’s minolta freedom zoom 135. I actually bought the wrong batteries today and need to go back and return them 😅 it said 3V on the package, but not the 123(????) so I’m guessing that’s what I should be looking for??
It will be an interesting film to try especially with long telephoto lenses used on wildlife. I was surprised from the samples that the film wasn’t as grainy as I expected, even when pushed.
Any chance this is Aerocolor IV, but rated at 800? As with the Elektra 100, FlicFilm states it is trademarked Aerocolor IV, not with this. Looks very similar to my experiences with Elektra. Either way, beautiful looking results.
Would be cool to see films like these shot next to established stocks like portra 800 to see how the compare with dynamic range and color reproduction. Great video as always!
WOW! That is a nice looking color film. I shoot 90%+ B&W so I think that is saying something. I am going to have to consider this. Love the retro feel indoors and grain was beautiful. Another banger of a video, gang!
1/2-way through -- really enjoy your videos, fun and not all just technical! To my eye this looks similar to Portra 800 -- slightly washed out tones, mild blues -- which is fine, when pushed the blues seem to shift to almost a grey (skies), but still no terrible grain or contrast mess. Now -- if they could just sell this for $5/roll!!!! Oh -- could not tell so far in the video, is it DX coded? Cheers!!!
This film has been out for only a couple of weeks and from the few examples I was able to find online, I’d say it looks super close if not identical to the Lomo 800. What do you guys think after shooting it?
The official statement from Flic Film is that it's a custom film from Kodak made specifically for them. Reading between the lines and knowing that it's highly unlikely they'd create a whole new emulsion for a custom order considering the huge R&D process to do so, I'm going to assume it's probably a bespoke run of one of their discontinued consumer 800 emulsions, similar to what Lomo 800 no doubt is. At any rate, it's cheaper than Lomo, and Flic Film is a great company with a huge array of products that caters wonderfully to people with a serious interest in film and film processing, rather than just putting out cute things for the hipster market, so they can have my money any day!

We're doubtful it's re-spooled Portra 800. The negative base looks too different to our eyes as do the film scans.
