  • Sydney NSW tunnels formerly used by trams linking Wynyard station and the Sydney Harbour Bridge until 1958, were opened to the public during VIVID 2024. We take a walk from Wynyard platforms 1 & 2, down the storage tunnels, return to platforms 1 & 2 and walk along the tunnel climbing up toward the bridge. We exit at Gloucester Street. The tunnels were used as a car park for the former Menzies Hotel and were split into two levels at certain parts. Still photos in this program from the Vic Solomons Collection and the Sydney Tramway Museum. The music is copyright and used with permission.

Coolest-looking thing I've ever seen. lol They didn't state this on the signage, but I think that part in red starting at around 8:00 in was beyond the station platforms and in a separate chamber where there was a double crossover. This would start at the ending of the portals of the upper and lower tunnels headed north. They also built a second-level into this section to hold more cars than what would otherwise be.
It looks like this mezzanine level in the crossover chamber was not included in art tour, as there were stairs to this level near the end of the upper tunnel to reach it by foot, and a ramp at the end of this section where it met the exit tunnel to that cars could access it.
That said, at 7:50 what is the "side tunnel"? I imagine this is just the "lower tunnel" (eastern tunnel at grade between the platform area and crossover area) on the first floor? I guess this wasn't part of the tour either and you were simply guided through the upper tunnel?

When I went there I didn’t realise that that wall made out of rocks was the tunnel they would use to come out of there and go on the harbour bride

Did the vivid thing in the tunnels…..way to noisy…. The sound just echoed off every wall…and there was no way out. Several people were seen trying to find a place to escape…and being sick.
