The details on old anime is insane. You can feel the love they put into each design. Even characters that are made fun of a lot like Yamcha still looked badass.
love was put into super but guess what happened. schedules just died a painful death and animators, even the legendary z staff that worked on super like naotoshi shida couldnt do decent work with half the time to prepare an episode than normal
If it was actually released on the 90s it would've been legendary
If DBS was released in the 90s then watching ssjb vegeta body golden frieza would've been glorious

It's pretty expensive to produce 130 episodes of anime.
Also, the quality of the Super anime is actually pretty good except for the fight scenes tho.

Which is impressive considering that Goku Black generally looked good and the girls debuted during the later parts of DBS where the art issues had been partially resolved. Never really fully resolved but a lot less noticable during the TOP.

I think I prefer the dbz style more than the dbs style but there are still some aspects of the dbs style that I like. The Broly movie was a great combination of the 2 styles and I hope future series and movies follow it.

Yeah the designer of the fan art actually payed attention to how ssj works like how her muscle definition has increased and her hair looks more life like instead of just being static caulifa really does look more like a super saiyan in the fan art this just puts supers art style to shame

90's Caulifla makes me feel different than what she actually looks like in the official show.
She's so much hotter and sexier in the 90s redesign, as it was said that back then most of the women in Dragon Ball were and I quote "beautiful and sexy", but Caulifla definitely took that line to the utmost extreme! Damn she made hard as a diamond!

Super Goku in the 90s styling is such a massive difference compared to Super’s usual art. The 90s style makes it feel like he’s got that much more of a presence. He looks sharper, more attentive, smarter.
Not things associated with Super Goku usually, and regularly associated with DBZ Goku instead.

Fr this makes me wanna turn into a super Saiyan,I wanna I wanna 😂 this gives me the great feeling of my youth I was born 1999 and I grew up with dragon ball z,this needs to become a whole reanimation series,like all of us dbz fans should riot and unite like potara and fuse an alliance of what we want out of our love for Akira toriyami and the 90's artwork team, and just simply beg our hearts out to be healed with this. As if we're flying on our way wit da nimbus to ask shenron to have Akira toriyami make this.

I was never able to properly explain the small issues with Super's art style vs. the 90s style. But now I can clearly see after the crossfades:
- 90s have a very unique coloring style.
- 90s' mouths are drawn higher than Super's.
- 90s' auras don't overlap the character. Super's aura sometimes overlap the character a little too much.
- 90s' hair colors are paler.
- 90s style doesn't have that plastic shine on the character's faces.
- Super's linework is a little too clean. If that makes sense.
The style of the 90s shines for its details, expressions, shading.
Personally I think that an animation with the fluidity, and cleanliness of dbs along with the details, shading and colors of the 90s would be perfect
The only thing I don't like about him drawing from the 90s is the rigidity and blurry that if I'm not mistaken it looks like that because it was not in digital.
i wish it was just the coloring style, you dont need to look closly but the whole artstyle from Z looks different. I never noticed it that hard, but man, Super massacred everything
Plus, the definitions of the faces lack distinctive features with the cheekbones and wrinkles on the eyebrows and forehead like the 90s have.
supers art is made by drawing it onto a computer rather than 90s cell animation which has grain on it.
but super tossed its original color designer for a new one that worked on broly erasing the oiled up vegetas and gokus

90's art style have something unique. You can clearly see the muscle lines everywhere , that bulld up and buff in size.

3:14 One of the most underrated & iconic art concept that was omitted in Super was the brightening/bleaching of the blonde hair once the aura disappeared.
That looked so good in Z & seeing that detail being brought back with Caulifla is eye opening & refreshing. 💯
I don't mind Super's art style that much, just that the 90's look and the line work suit Dragon Ball much more overall; able to be seen as fun and wholesome and other times intense and threatening.

A simple fix on color schemes and shading can go a long way, you can see it perfectly in the Yo Son Goku OVA.

Honestly, it reminds me of video games back when the Xbox 360 and PS3 were still new which was around the 2006-2009 era. It seems like Dragon Ball Super is doing the same thing, where extra shininess and bloom makes for a more appealing episode, when in reality, it drowns out most of the heart and soul of many more artistic things put into the mix.
That's how I feel here. It reminds me of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Too much bloom and flash.
the super broly movie was the perfect mix of the two art styles. it is definitely my favorite art style out of any show/anime
90's was peak Dragon Ball, the only shoot of super that actually looks better is at 4:18
Worst part is that it's NOT more expensive to draw this way. They totally could still do this but Toei doesn't seem to care enough to find people who can draw on model.

all of recent series of 90's Animes have same problem. I missed that 90's style. the animators of 90's almost had drawn in hand.

Reasons they won't bring back the 90s style we all love:
1. Requires high budget,
2. More time consuming,
3. Super is for kids so everything needs to be softer and more cartoonish,
4. Akira Toriyama was the goat and noone can replace his skills.
Too bad really. The story of DBS would be legendary if Toriyama did it like Z, but oh well

I really loved the 90s animation. While watching the video, I felt like I was watching dbz as dbs. Dbs animations were like drawn in hurry, while dbz gave more attention to detail. The TOP saga was a bit better than the previous ones, and the MUI animation suits better in dbs than dbz, to be honest 😅😅 I wish the next season of dbs give such attention.
what they need to do for akiras tribute is to redo super into 90's style
if still frames look this good just imagine how awesome some of the more appealing fights (vegito vs fused zamasu, universe 7's final stand or the universe 6 namekians vs gohan and piccolo) would look like if they were fully animated in this style

Something I noticed is that the DBZ Artstyle has more detailed chins, and saturation that just made you feel comfortable. You've never really had your eyes stinging after watching DBZ Kai, have you?

4:49 I think I noticed why some of Super’s animations and shots look subpar compared to Z: color shading and details
Notice how Caulifla in the Z style has more details while the art overall having less oversaturated shading than the original shot from Super
I really prefer the ones that try and keep the background of the shot consistent to the location in Super's story.
