There was a time in late '95 and early '96 when I hatred Hulk Hogan but when Hulk Hogan turned heel at Bash at the Beach 1996, it was one of the best thing that I liked and started loving Hollywood Hulk Hogan again.
@@LongHuynh-bx5ll I always loved antagonists in books and movies, many heel characters in wrestling and in real life I always say that I am the chief villain not the actor. In movies when the actor who is the nice guy receives a beating you see that the beating is artificial and exagerated. I like natural ones, one must have talent to play the chief villain.
This reminds me what a frustrating experience watching WCW was during this time. Fantastic build up, everyone looked great and there was so much promise but rarely any real change occurred, just the illusion of change. If only Hulk could have seen the bigger picture and not try and protect his own brand all the time. The only surprise was there was never any surprises. Ultimately WCW snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
Hulk Hogan in 97/98 had a late 80’s to early 90’s face mentality. What I mean by that is, he was making creative decisions for himself as if he was the hero, and never grasped that, at some point or another, the heel has to eventually lose
@@mrcoreynitro Unfortunately he was treated like that for most of his WCW career. From the first ever Nitro, to the first time he won the championship. All for a godamn ratings pop.
I've been addicted to this channel since your Pillman in ECW video... Binge watching ever since! The one about John Tenta's career is my favorite, so far...
Hearing that Savage tapped to Bret and then Piper blew my mind. Was never a big Macho fan, he was a little before my time, but hell the guy did business.
Starcade 97 happened on my 18th birthday. A bunch of my friends and I ordered the ppv and watched it at my best friend at the time's place. It was a pretty awesome night despite the finish of the match. I was so hyped. LOL. "Steve's too tanned brotherrrrrrrr."
My personal favorite heel is HHH *but* I don't think the Game character would've ever been the headliner if Hogan and the nWo hadn't turned the baddies into who the fans cheered for
I love these videos man, they really take me back to a happier, less complicated time of my life. I get lost in them from time to time and it feels like I’m a kid again for that 15-20 mins. Also, it doesn’t hurt that I still learn things that I never knew during that time period, every now and then. Keep up the good work, man, you’ve earned a subscription from me👍🏾👍🏾
The night Luger won that belt was the first episode of wrestling I ever watched. i was 7 and i was hooked for the next 4 years. ill never forget that though.
I absolutely love your uploads good buddy!!!!! Looking forward to the finger poke incident!!!! Was totally floored as a kid when it happened on live tv
Hyped for the Finger Poke of Doom video. I've got to say, how you review and view the FPoD will say a lot about you as a Wrestling fan. It's got to be the most misunderstood moment in wrestling history!
And most astonishing fact is after finger poke of doom wcw experienced 2nd and 3rd best ratings months in early 1999 but injuries to stars in big nwo led to ratings declining which continued till it died
I love your channel man. You always cover great stories when it comes to classic wrestling angles especially from the 90s and WCW. Also I'm a huge fan of your "Monday Night Wars" retro coverage series, man. Huge fan!
At least I know when Nitro went to three hours. I was wondering the other day. You'll have your work cut out on the reliving the war series when it gets to 1997.
I'm so excited that this video is out cause I've been waiting patiently. I always loved Hollywood Hogan ever since I learned about him when I was a 12 year old playing wwe 2k14
Another great video upload very interesting keep the good work up as always seriously wrestling bios is the best channel for wrestling a lot of nolige that man knows cheers again 👍
33 now i watched starcade 97 was awsome as a kid still 1 of my oldest wrestling memorys its cool to look back at the bts aspects of it which is what im more into these days rather then watching currently
Never watched WCW like that but That Hogan vs sting match was probably the best build up in history. As a Die hard Wwf fan we still heard the rumblings of the match only thing close was the Rock vs Austin X7
I still remember leaving reunion arena in Dallas tx wearing a NWO Hogan Shirt I seen Hulk and Dusty Rhodes. I got close to hogan after the show and told him I was his still a fan of him he signed my shirt and said I didn’t know I still had fans.
I agree with you. WCW should stop with NWO at that time. To match WWF , WCW should start with matches ECW styles. They had talent for it. But like you said Hogan was "running" the show and putting end on WCW.
I think Bischoff crapped himself at Starccade 1997. I know people don't believe what he and Hogan have said about Sting being out of shape and a shadow of himself, but that does fit in with the timing of Stings personal issues. 18 months of buildup and the crowd in a frenzy, and they should ahve stuck to the plan, but they panicked.

@@morticianforreal agreed often the villain is best most interesting character rather then then hero who is too good and pure to be any good!
I rooted for the dungeon of doom to lay a besting on em every nitro during the same time., felt same when he went heel with nwo.

He did lose several times but i agree he was too powerful for a heel took over wcw for years like a all powerful face does rarely lose.
Hogan and Bischoff both knew that he should've lost Starrcade '97.
Creative Control Brother💪
The pop Luger got when he beat Hogan was incredible
Luger's career highlight right there. He'd lose the title a few days later but still when he won it, great moment in Nitro history.
@@kevinpayton2664 Luger deserved it tbh, definitely a reliable wrestler. Poor Luger was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

That was the biggest highlight in Lex Luger wrestling career winning the World Heavyweight Championship from Hollywood Hogan on Monday Night Nitro...
hulk hogan as a good guy would beat lex luger
And dropped the belt back to Hogan on PPV 5 days later.
@@lorenzoalsobrooks739 True
You would've thought that Luger would never hold the world title again but it happened.
I believe you've forgotten the slamming of yoko on the destroyer lol
WCW did such a great job building towards Hogan vs Sting at Starrcade 1997 and then completely screwed up the match, its finish, and the aftermath.
It epitomises WCW perfectly. Act 1 they nailed it but act 2 and 3 they blew it
