Hi, Dave!! I'm almost finished with The Gunslinger...first time through...and I'm really excited to read both the rest of the series and the "extra" books, too. What a journey this is gonna be!! I'm truly here for it. Thank you for helping us along the path of the beam...long days and pleasant nights, my friend!
@@DaveReadsKing I’ve been enjoying the channel, but I’m here to comment on that ETID hoodie. 😍 - there you go! Now you can like it again! 😂 Keep up the good work brother!
It has taken me a month to finally get to the last chapter. It's a short book and has a simple enough narrative but the way it's written is what sets me back. I keep backtracking because I miss certain details he just brushes over. I'm a huge fan of King books but man it's a hard read. It may have something to do with the fact that he actually wrote this at 19 and wasn't all that experienced in writing
I agree that the next two books of the series really pull you in. The gunslinger is a great read, but a bit thrown off by the lack of clarity of what was going on lol. The next two really help with the world building.
Good review (apart from the spoiler) and some good reasons to read it. However, I've read a fair few King books now, and this has got to be the worst one Ive read to date. I just didnt like it?! Felt too vague, not much actually happening, and just too 'make it up as you go along' fell to it. It had no real story to it. Im sure many like the 'deepness' of it all, but for me I enjoy a good story, and this aint that. Not sure I'll be rushing to read the others any time soon?
I love the sweater! Such a shame to hear of their recent disbanding. Have you read either of their vocalist, Keith Buckley’s novels, Scale or Watch? He has written some of my most cherished lyrics and his style works nicely in prose.
I know, right? Looks like a real messy ending too, which is crying shame. I have read Scale - got a signed copy when it first came out - but I've not gone in on Watch yet. Must give Scale a reread some time
Hey Dave! Enormous Little Things is my band, but A Great UndertaKING is my King content channel. Seems you and I have quite a bit in common dude! Keep rocking and reading!
?? I mean, there isn't really anything to it. I - a fully functioning adult - decided I wanted to have my hair dyed blue, so...I had it dyed blue?? That's literally it
I Have just finished the French audiobook version of The Gunslinger. After reading more than 20 King novels I was really curious about that first Dark Tower book and the idea of King multiverse where all is connected. Unfortunately The Gunslinger was one of my worst King experience. Never been much a fan of the fantasy genre and for instance LOTR bores me extremely so maybe that’s the problem. I thought the first part was quite engaging and entertaining in this small town before the desert but everything after the town massacre felt nonsensical random gibberish. There was good bits here and there but without the restriction of our reality to ground the story (and King is so great about putting an anomaly to our reality and play around that) the narration is free to go all over the place and it felt to me pointless. More like an imaginative schoolboy wanking on paper. I just can’t be bothered going further on the Dark Tower where there is some other great King waiting on my reading list and away from this saga. Too bad.
I felt very similar but I forced myself to read The Drawing of the Three right after and it all clicked for me then. Don’t know if that helps and totally understand if you still don’t want to bother, but it could be worth a try!
You were doing great until you spoiled it! If you are making these videos to try and get people to actually read the stories, STOP WITH THE SPOILERS! or just call it 19 WAYS DAVE RUINS IT FOR NEW READERS!
You spoiled things in the series that arent in the first book, spoil the book ur talking about but dont spoil the rest of it. Saying this isnt the first time jake dies was unneccessary

Getting through all of King’s 80s works is going to take all bloody year, good luck!
Ha, thanks!

Yeah, I think that’s fair - that and it being five stories smooshed together…it’s not the most coherent piece
The upside down back to front reveal was hilarious
👍👍

I felt similar first time around but I jumped straight into The Drawing of the Three afterwards and the whole thing really clicked for me
I absolutely love the gunslinger It's definitely one of my favorite books from king 🥰😊
Nice!
which is the best version of gunslinger I looked in amazon reviews people were disappointed with every version I looked at
@@tsnowman3421 take the Amazon reviews with a pinch of salt - people on the internet love to complain!

Just read this thinking it wouldn't be any good, but i thought it was a great little book.
Nice, glad you enjoyed it!

Well, thanks!
The dark tower movie was a letdown for me I did enjoy Idris Elba as roland and Matthew as the man in black
Yep - keep those two actors but do it again properly!
you spoiled it!!! ...
Yep. I also very clearly say there are spoilers at the start of the video. So...🤷♂️
