Enjoyed this video and having the spoilers grouped together at the end is a great idea! Makes it much easier to avoid spoilers if you don’t want to hear them
Hi Dave, love these videos. My mom passed a bit over a year ago. She was the biggest King fan I've ever known. Now that I have inherited her books, I decided to read more of the Kings. I've read a few over the years --The Stand, Eyes of the Drgaon...I remember looking at the pictures in Cycle of the Werewolf when I was probably waaaay too young. Read all Dark Towers on a friend's recommendation, which I loved and, ironically were the only Kings my mom never read because she read the original Gunslinger and didn't care for it! Anyway, been missing her a lot lately and decided to read the King books I remember her talking about over the years, starting with Dolores Claiborne. Not sure what will be next...Hearts in Atlantis, or maybe Rose Madder. She liked those ones a lot.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your mom - that must be really tough to deal with and I hope King’s works help with getting through the grieving process for you. Dolores Claiborne is a wonderful one to go in on - such a powerful story…your mom had great taste!
I remember bring the book at work to read between calls, and I couldn't put thing down. My work went down but fuck it, the book was amazing. there is a story out there that when he was writing this book he had a picture of Kathy Bates on his desk as he saw her has Dolores.
Yes, I read that too about him picturing Kathy Bates as Dolores - it was similar to Mr Mercedes, apparently he wrote that with Brendan Gleeson as Hodges in his head
THANK YOU! I've watched all of your videos but often have to bail because of spoilers. I've read almost all of Kings books but not since they came so have forgotten most of the plots, hence I don't want spoilers. At the moment I'm going through a reread of all his works starting with The Dark Tower series. Keep up the excellent videos!
Love having the spoilers grouped at the end. I've been doing this with my reviews as well when I have spoilers, and people seem to prefer it from what I've seen.
loved the video. i personally am obsessed with this book, it was one of the first books i ever read from him and it still holds such a special place in my heart. it's probably in my top 3 with under the dome and pet sematary. dolores herself also has to be one of my overall favourite king characters ever (and there's a whole lot of competition there) but being able to sit completely with one character for an entire novel makes her almost unbeatable in my eyes. she's the perfect blend of tragic, sympathetic and hard ass that all lends such a complexity and interest to her. the well scene has to be my favourite scene from the book, gave me the creeps big time when i read it and my mum (who is my king reading buddy) feels the exact same way. great work on the video, really made me want to go back and read it again, especially since it's such an easy one to smash out. definitely like the spoilers being grouped to the end so if you could keep that up it'd be legendary. cheers for all your fantastic work and can't wait for more :)
Just finished. I thought it was fantastic. As always, I come here instantly after finishing. Enjoying a whiskey myself while watching. I love your reviews Dave.
I just finished the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. One thing that stuck out and it might be a reach but I think has ties to The Dark Tower, in particular The Thinny. Pg 183 right when Dolores has her first vision she says "the light in the dooryard had gone from the strong afternoon yellow it has in July to a kind of faded Rose, in the shadow of the house laying across the driveway had taken on a funny thin kind of look I'd never seen before and never have since" It would explain the connection between both characters and the books. Just a thought, what do you think?
how did you read DC book? I did it almost in one sitting because of the format which was quite jarring. I am now on Insomnia I constantly said that I would read 11/22/63 afterward, do you think thats a good Idea or should I continue with Rose Madder?
I read Dolores in either 2 or 3 sittings...I really liked just immersing myself into it. As for your next read, it's ultimately up to you...both of them are fantastic. It depends how good a book you want - Rose Madder is good, 11/22/63 is *chef's kiss*
I just finish the book this morning I really enjoyed Dolores Claiborne I'm so glad I decided to give the book a try it's definitely one of my favorite books from king and my favorite reads this month I'm going to rewatch the movie soon I haven't seen it in years 💖🥰🙂👍
Only read 3 King books: 1 Dolores Claiborne 2 Misery 3 Shawshank Redemption And of the three Dolores is the best. The fact that it is first person and it is she who explains everything is brilliant. The main characters are:Do!ores,Joe her husband and Vera, but gosh those characters come to live in her story and the way she describes events. OK, there is back and forth but it is to be expected when one person speaks. Personally,I detest supernatural and horror novels and this does not follow in those categories. Took me two days to read it and just wished there was more (300 pages) Wondering which of King's books are not horror or supernatural but like the three I read so far.
Good question! So, non supernatural or horror King…off the top of my head…The Body, The Dead Zone, Full Dark No Stars, Gerald’s Game (also linked to Dolores Claiborne), The Green Mile, The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, 11/22/63, Mr Mercedes, The Institute, Firestarter, Joyland, The Colorado Kid, Lisey’s Story, Billy Summers, Holly…that’s all I can think of right now!
@DaveReadsKing, Thank you so much for the list of non-horror King books. Much appreciated. My friends will now know what to get me for Xmas 😊 BTW: I subscribed but it doesn't show it. Regards from Cheshire 🙂
I was fine with the way you were doing the videos because I've read the books, but moving the spoilers is a great middle ground for those you're really talking to, which are people who haven't.
Thanks for these reviews! I actually prefer when king writes female main characters because I find he makes them more interesting and deep than his male mcs
I couldn’t hardly get through it… I guess it was because I know how Interrogations actually happen. That and the Vilifying of the husband to justify her murderous feelings. It’s weird to hear you act as if Dolores entire story is 100% facts. Does the daughter back Dolores claim of molestation?
Off the top of my head - yes, pretty sure she does. She tells Dolores about it on the ferry. Nice to see that abuse victims are judged and not believed in fiction as well as in real life

Ace, great to know - thanks!

Loved loved loved this book. You're so great on wordplay in your videos too ("let's go down the well" ) . Always look forward to your videos.
Thank you! Appreciate that a lot!

Yeah, it definitely seems like a smart choice - don't know why I didn't do it sooner to be honest!

Wonderful, thanks! And, yes, Dolores is an awesome character to spend time with!
The film with Kathy bates in the lead role is brilliant also. Highly recommend it.
Heck yes!

Thanks so much!
The wallpaper is mesmerising!
It's good, isn't it? Like an Overlook Hotel colouring book!
@@DaveReadsKing you nailed it!
I would love see King do a novel where Jessie and Selena meet.
Oh, nice!
Loved this book - thank you for the video!
You’re welcome!
another great 19, i like the spoilers cluster
only thing i would add is Dr John McAuliffe
ive been wishing King would write more about him for years
Nice - thanks for that!

That is a fantastic catch! Nice 🔥
I think I might have to look up the audiobook of this, I'm intrigued to hear the 'voice' and the Maine dialect proper.

Really enjoyed the pacing. Dolores as a narrator is something I didn't expect to like so much!!
I know exactly what you mean - the idea of a 300-page monologue by an old woman with a strong Maine accent shouldn't work, but it really does!
Yeah I really enjoyed the Pacing in Dolores Claiborne I was definitely shocked how much I enjoyed the

Just got this book 🙂
Awesome - enjoy! I think it's a really underrated one
I know you are into metal (not exactly sure what genres) but I think Cradle of Filth could make a great song about this novel.
Yep, I can imagine that. To be honest, this novel could suit a whole range of bands!
Thanks for these reviews! I actually prefer when king writes female main characters because I find he makes them more interesting and deep than his male mcs
💯💯💯
This is my favorite movie of all tiMe. Definitely will be reading this one!
Nice! The style of the book takes a little getting used to but it’s really worth it 😊
Good review of a fantastic book. One of kings best. Definitely worth a reread.5 stars.
For sure!
Yes the book is definitely one of kings best this book is criminally underrated
Came here 5 mins after completing this book 💯.
Awesome, thanks!
I thought parts of this book were laugh out loud hilarious!
Same!
