TONE MATCHED! Top 25 Heavy Metal Guitar Sounds - Vol. 1
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 24 июл 2024
- Using Bias FX 2 and Bias Amp 2, I matched the guitar tones of 25 classic heavy metal albums. From best to greatest, my guitar tone countdown includes Metallica, Pantera, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest among others.
IMPORTANT 2023 UPDATE - Some users have reported they can't find my presets when searching Bias FX 2. This seems to be a glitch in their search system. To solve the issue, type in the search field "DMO -" (yes, just DMO followed by a space and hyphen) and choose "Sort by Popularity" in the drop-down beside the search field. You should see all of my presets.
Please note many users have taken my presets and created their own versions with similar names. To make sure you are downloading my original presets, my user name in Bias FX 2 is "Dan Oliv". Also, my original presets have a lot more downloads than the non-original versions.

You're more than welcome to use my presets for your cover videos, "What if" creations, etc. All I ask is to give me credit in your video (or video description). It took me a huge amount of effort to create these presets, so credit would be appreciated.
In this video, I matched the guitar tone of the following albums:
. Accept - Balls to the Wall (Wolf Hoffmann and Herman Frank)
. AC/DC - Back in Black (Angus Young and Malcolm Young)
. Alice in Chains - Facelift (Jerry Cantrell)
. Anthrax - Spreading the Disease (Scott Ian and Dan Spitz)
. Black Sabbath - Mob Rules (Tony Iommi)
. Exodus - Bonded by Blood (Gary Holt & Rick Hunolt)
. Iron Maiden - Powerslave and The Number of the Beast (Adrian Smith and Dave Murray)
. Judas Priest - Painkiller (Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing)
. Kiss - Lick It Up (Paul Stanley and Vinnie Vincent)
. Machine Head - Burn My Eyes (Robb Flynn and Logan Mader)
. Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil (Mick Mars)
. Megadeth - Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? (Dave Mustaine and Chris Poland)
. Metallica - Black Album, Ride the Lightning and ...And Justice for All (James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett)
. Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears (Zakk Wylde)
. Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven (Dimebag Darrell)
. Queensryche - Empire (Chris DeGarmo and Michael Wilton)
. Sepultura - Beneath the Remains (Max Cavalera and Andreas Kisser)
. Slayer - Reign in Blood and South of Heaven (Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman)
. Testament - The Ritual (Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick)
. Van Halen - Van Halen I (Eddie Van Halen)
My presets are optimized for live playing. If you use them for recording, I recommend the following:
. Use the single path (instead of the dual path, which has a slight delay for a stereo sound)
. Reduce the distortion levels
. Raise the bass levels
. Record your guitars four times (see my Four Guitars video for further explanation about quad recording)
Many of the presets in this video have their own dedicated video explaining how to use them. Check out my "Classic Heavy Metal Tones" playlist.
I play the following guitars in this video:
. B.C. Rich NJ Jr. V - EMG 81 & 85 Pickups & Original Floyd Rose Tremolo (my number one guitar!)
. Gibson Tribal Explorer - Gibson Pickups (500T & 496R) & Kahler 2215 Tremolo
. B.C. Rich Mockingbird - DiMarzio Pickups (Super Distortion & PAF) & Kahler 2300 Tremolo
. Hamer Vector - Hamer Pickup & Kahler 2300 Tremolo
. B.C. Rich Bich - DiMarzio Pickups (Super Distortion & PAF) & Kahler 2300 Tremolo
. Hamer Phantom - Hamer Pickups & Kahler 2300 Tremolo
. B.C. Rich Warlock (1984) - DiMarzio Pickups (Super Distortion & PAF) & Kahler 2300 Tremolo
. B.C. Rich Warlock (1987) - DiMarzio Pickups (Super Distortion & PAF) & Floyd Rose/B.C. Rich Tremolo
. Dean Razorback - Floyd Rose Special Tremolo, Seymour Duncan Pickup (SH-13 Dimebucker) & Dean DMT Pickup
. B.C. Rich Wartribe - EMG 81 & 85 Pickups & Kahler Hybrid Tremolo
I recorded all videos using Garageband and Reaper with an iMac and Line 6's UX1 audio interface.

This is the most impressive and convincing ad for Bias that I've ever seen. These are fuckin' SPOT ON. Sick job.
Imagine having a tone so on point you get a copyright strike 🤘😂
Right??? Wish I could do that
You write that as if he had gotten a strike for these videos

@@kjl3080 But that's based on the notes that are played, the melody... Not how accurate it it sonically to the original... I think; I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure.
The Facelift tone is insane
So good. I’d love to see the Dirt album tone matched next.
@@tylerbrittan593 Yessss!
@@jsullivan2112 Pantera also, sounds amazing!
Testament, Metallica(...And Justice, Black Album), Pantera, Machine Head also sounds as insane as Alice in Chains.
Heaviest AIC by far imo.
Anyone noticed how Ride the lightning and Spreading the disease sound similar tone wise? 🤘
It's funny you said that because when I was young, I would be playing along both albums and I'd lower the mid knob know all the way to zero to get a similar sound.
yeah
That's because, before RtL was recorded, Metallica got their gear robbed, and guess who lended them some equipment? That's right, Anthrax, and they were using the same equipment for Spreading the Disease (both albums were recorded in 1984)

Dude you nailed them all.... That's astonishing
Amazing !!!!!
These are all awesome!
Very cool, good job my man! 👍🙂
Props for doing cool slightly deeper cuts on all these albums. Love how most of them were one popular song and one not so popular song.
Great playing, my man!
Amazing! Thank you, and I can't wait to download these. You the man! F these little punks putting a thumbs down to someone putting in hours of work!!!
Sounds great!
these are amazing and dead on!!!
Man, those tones are EXACT !!! And, you have some pretty nice classic axes too. 🤘
Hey man, I just dropped by after searching your channel for about a year. I used to watch your videos back in 2010 when I was 8 years old.
Btw you’re nailing those tones of all the real tunes I love. Keep rockin bro 👊😎👍
Already subscribed! thank you so much for this gift to the community. Cheers from Perú - south America.
PLEASE, make more OLD SCHOOL TONES. Rock on!
i mean, some modern tones is good
just some are overtly heavy
also lots and LOTS of breakdowns, nothing but 0s in the riffs
Brutal tones bro.
appreciated brother 👍
These are awesome presets!!!!
The No More Tears one is my favorite tone ever that you can make on a guitar. I got goosebumps listening to it. And as soon as I saw this video and heard the tone, I bought it immediately!!! I am so happy. You don't know how long I've been trying to that tone!!!
You have such killer guitars! \m/ \m/
You completely nailed the facelift tone
Great Job
Great collection of Guitars
Un saludo, from Spain
God, your ability to match tones is amazing! Would you be able to do both the clean and distorted tone off "Human" by death? Preferably the remaster/remix because it sounds so much thicker than the original
Dude!!!! You did NO MORE TEARS!!! 🤘😆🤘 I’ve just downloaded it from the tone cloud. It sounds so damn good! Just like the album. If I could add another request?: No Rest For The Wicked- Ozzy and Exodus - Tempo Of The Damned🤘
Keep up the brilliant work, dude. Love the channel.
Christopher Black Hey man I’m just curious, say if I load up bias fix 2 into garage band or some DAW, can I hear the tone and play with it in real time?
Nick Anastasatos yeah you can. I’m using GarageBand too. After you’ve installed Bias FX (and you have your guitar interface working too) open GarageBand, open new track (make sure right input is selected) go to the plugin section (where you have multipressor, etc) and select new plugin, scroll to “Bias FX2” and it should work.if you have any delay: Close GarageBand, open Bias FX app, go to settings, and you can select the minimum delay, off the top of my head it’s 0.6 or a second. 🤘
Christopher Black thanks for the help bro 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
You definitely sound like all these different players and tones, great job
All perfect!
Hey man great tones 🎸🎶
Think I subbed you like 9 or 10 years ago.
Man you have a sweet guitar collection 😎
That machine head tone is crazy!!
It's super heavy.
I think you nailed the Justice tone!
Blown away by how accurate this was
Holy Hell, It's so goddamn accurate! I was always sceptical about BIAS FX and BIAS AMP that it can match the tones of other amps. There was something always a bit off for me, but I guess you have to sacrifice more time to perfect these tones and that it is possible. But goddamn...you somehow managed to do it and I am stunned about how accurate it is! I can't thank you enough for these presets. You Are Incredible.
People think is just a matter of quickly tone matching. But that's not true. Like you said, it takes a lot of work, trial and error, and fine tuning.
Downloaded your AJFA tone and was not disappointed.
Whoah.... Nice job dude!! Checking you out on Spotify ;) And that BC Rich V is stunning! /// Just saw in the description your number 1 guitar!! LOL
Dude how......
ITS ON POINT
This is insane 😃
Wow, still remember you from early days of youtube.
Welcome back I think, same guitars, same Video graphics/format. Cool
Hey, can you do some Death next? I love Chuck's tone, especially on Symbolic.
Great!!
Nailed.
beautiful guitars
I am impressed
Lol, thank you very much for your dedication👌👌
Love it!!! you should have used your maple BC Rich with EMGs for the ACCEPT sound...!!
Flash of the blade is such an underrated song
Avenged Sevenfold did a good cover of it, too.
Holy... crap...bro... i just want to say awesome job keeping up the amazing work. I just rewatched a video i posted a decade ago and remembered how i used to watch your highly informative videos all the time for advice and recommendations when i was deep into mastering guitar/amp tone. Now, married and three kids later, im happy to see that you stuck with your talent. I wish i could play as good as you or even as good as i used to play. Maybe one day ill be able to pass my knowledge i learned from you to one of my kids. I still have my carvin guitar packed away safely under my bed after selling off all my quality gear. One day ill buy a high gain tube amp again and hopefully one of my kids will catch one. Keep it up brother.
Awesome job dude, I really wanna hear someone nail the tone throwdown had on Venom and tears...
THAT AJFA TONE!!!!!
Bro this video alone made me subscribe please do more
Tone is EVERYTHING!!!!... when it comes to Knowing your Guitar Gods you are Learning from!!!
Soooo many guitarist know the Tactical part of a Song on a guitar... and miss the Strategic aspect of TONE of that Artist.

Thank you, legend.
Nice job, great ear.
Reign in blood is on fucking point well done mate !
Those are scarily accurate. I just use one preset that sounds good and play everything on it.
Man I would do anything for that black Hamer guitar. They go for so much now.
Excellent compilation. I just miss Fear Factory's Demanufacture guitar tone and the rhythm guitar tone of Carcass' Heartwork.
That spreading the disease tone is amazing.
I’ve literally never heard someone replicate it so well
I loved the bonded by blood tone so much
OMG I watched 25 and 24 and was blown away by the tone!
I know the rest will be spot on. Thanks for putting this together ! Typing and listening ....
Damn I’m @ Sepultura now
- I know that album like every square inch of my glorious naked body and it’s perfect .
Hey man, awesome work! You used to have full albums play through, any chance of seeing those again? Thanks.
Most Accurate sounds (for me):
04:54 Spreading The Disease
12:12 Ride The Lightning
20:23 Black Album
13:04 Reign In Blood
03:31 Painkiller
16:28 Back In Black
01:37 Powerslave
14:45 Facelift
02:56 Beneath The Remains
i thought Burn My Eyes sounded pretty badass too.
Freakin' awesome! Love them all but thanks for Vinnie's tone from Lick it Up, it's not for the innocent ;)
Thanks man. Good to hear from a fellow player who recognizes one of the greatest guitar albums that doesn't get the recognition it deserves! It was tough getting that tone right...
These are actually so good that I refuse to believe that he didn’t just use the isolated guitar tracks from the albums
I could do that too if I had 150 guitars....
Oh. And little bit of talent.
Great job bro, that's some true metal!🤘🏼
That's really amazing, thanks for the video! Did you record the guitar twice each time to get this cool stereo sound?
Aside from the spot on accuracy, the guitar themselves are beautiful
I've found your tones to be the best of all that have been shared on Bias FX, by a long shot. I'd like to sincerely say thank you very much for sharing these great tones, I use them often! I would like to ask if you have considered trying to capture the tone from the Randy Rhoads Tribute album. I made one using parts of the Spotlight Solo at the end of Suicide Solutuon, parts where the guitar minimized the crowd noise the most. I have shared it on the software but I really believe where I was only able to get close, you could really nail it and capture it accurately! That's at the top of my list of all time dream tones. Any chance you'll ever give it a shot? Also as someone else mentioned No Rest For The Wicked particularly Miracle Man would be nice and maybe Bark At The Moon! Any Ozzy is good but especially Tribute! Thanks again!
Broooo RTL, Burn my Eyes facelift and THE RITUAL!!!! They are PERFECT HOW ???
Spot on mate! Great video. Is it necessary to have both the Bias FX and the Bias Amp or just one of them?
11:26 Most unterrated Song of Testament. Man i love your videos! You are a true legend.
I wouldn't say the back in black tone is heavy its one of their cleanest sounds, its more so malcolms heavy strumming and the slight bit of compression and boost they used unlike with the previous albums, good job anyway 👍
They probably made it cleaner because he was playing heavier so to contrast they had to. Plus I’m sure their record company forced them so that way people wouldn’t consider them a metal band because people are stupid and think that anything that’s slightly heavy is metal.
So damn good! The Alice In Chains tone is so impressive. I’d love to see you do the Dirt album. Or even the tones from Black Gives Way To Blue or The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here.
I've seen various comments with people wanting the Dirt tone. Added to my list... The other albums you mentioned are also amazing. Jerry Cantrell's tones don't get the recognition they deserve.
dmometalguitar Radical! Also, go check out my AIC covers if you get a chance, man. You might dig em.
@@tylerbrittan593 I did. Unbelievable production, playing and singing!
dmometalguitar Thanks, man!
