WHAT UP! Fresh off the plane from Japan! I had the new Lumix s9 a few days early to test out. This is a VERY interesting camera. There is alot of GOOD! BUT also, alot of well, NOT so good. Anyways. I think this camera, even with its flaws, is now the KING of travel cameras! I hope you all enjoy the video, and tons more to come!

Well done! Loved the first 60 seconds…integrity shines! As for the camera…some darn nice video and photos here, but suspect that is just as much your skills!
If I hadn't recently grabbed an X100VI I would be seriously considering this camera. The S9 appears to have some awesome video/ease-of-use functions that are very unique. Really like that Panasonic is going for something different with this. It feels like the first true 'modern day' full frame camera that embraces a lot of the things that creators in need of fast turnaround content can vibe with.

Is there a chance that you are wrong? I mean, so many comments that you had to make a reaction video? Your own comments seem to say, “only buy this camera if you have other cameras already and money to burn…” The industry sponsored the video with an all expense paid vacation?
It sounds like an amazing trip. I’m envious! I enjoy the videos as entertainment value but pretending to be an unbiased review is total BS imo.
RECORD TIME limitations is a HARD NO.
For sure a deal breaker for some! It’s not my only camera and I won’t be using it for long form but I UNDERSTAND how it could be an absolute pass for others FOR SURE

Been shooting since the 80s - back when Andre Agassi was selling Canon Rebels with real film....a current 3-body Lumix owner and hybrid shooter doing paid work for real estate and business headshots and branding videos - can't say I've ever had a dream list of a full frame compact travel camera without a flash though. I know who the target audience is, but selfishly, I was hoping it was me! Still holding out for an actual Fuji killer from Lumix that I can make my EDC - can you imagine a small trigger like the Godox Xnano on that thing?! Will keep the old Lumix LX100ii on the table next to the key tray for now. In the mean time - enjoying your channel.

39 different LUTs, 39 different looks. Actually, it is 1482 different looks since you can stack 2 LUTs. And with opacity, it could be more.
I am not a fan of the S9...(a pair of Sony A7c mark 1 bodies do it for me) along with an older A7S....Now I really wish Panasonic (and OM for that matter) had continued their "rangefinder" style m43 cameras. Other than that ...good review...Cheers.
P.S. I dumped all my M43 gear ...Just so I can stay simple.

This makes Fuji X100VI even more attractive. S9 and X100VI are in completely different classes., I like the S9, but It doesn’t compete with Fuji, even if LUMIX may try to get to the same demographic.

I've been a military videographer since 2012 and I'm hella burnt out from carrying mad gear and rigging my camera.
I can see myself buying this camera to shoot creatively and for fun for me while traveling or everyday use and not for work.
But IMO, I agree with you that they should have priced it cheaper. $1,300 would be perfect. I could care less about the hot shoe. I'm not trying to rig it up or use flash. They did fumble the bag with the evf and headphone jack tho. I can see them doing a firmware update to solve the recording time limitations too. Time limitation on 1080p is wild tho.

No mechanical shutter is WILD.
They should've ditched the back screen altogether, put in an EVF/OVF, kept a mechanical shutter, and stuck a small/fast manual lens on it.
This would've been a really fun camera that stood out while still being affordable.
Lol most people dont use the evf at all these days. No screen would be a no no. I never use mechanical shutter for my paid shoots. To me mechanical shutter is a thing of the past
@@castielvargastv7931 I think most hybrid shooters will favor the screen, but most photographers will favor the EVF if they had to choose one or the other. Considering this thing is garbage for video, I think photography should be the focus.
The banding is the main issue with using an electronic shutter. This camera is useless under certain lighting conditions. Unless it's equipped with a high end sensor that can handle artificial lighting (it's not), it should have a mechanical shutter.
@@castielvargastv7931 the biggest issue with electronic shutter is the banding. I wouldn't ever buy this camera for that reason alone. I do too much photography indoors under artificial light.
I use the screen a lot too, moreso than the EVF but if I had to choose just one, I'd want the EVF so I can still see in bright conditions. That's just me personally.
I think they should've made this basically a "retro experience" camera. It would basically feel like a film camera. This way you can still make it cheaply but give it a truly unique spot in the market.
If they covered my trip to Japan I’d say the same thing, respect for keeping it honest enough, nothing worse than RUclipsrs that shill anything with no shame.

Travel camera, no. If it ships with that manual focus FIXED APERTURE F8 lens then focusing on the fly with focus peaking on a LCD will be a nightmare. Maybe it’s a vlogging camera but with a 10 minute record limit, it’s going make more work for somebody. I do enjoy your videos but I can’t support your title or some of your conclusions.
What? Why does the citizen have to wait? It’s his country and as someone that once live in Osaka, should be mindful 1:05 but it’s ok to have a loud as car or Hemi?
I’m a long time Panasonic fan and this thing is just a flop. Only benefit is the LUT import. The reality is they could have given the consumer more, but they took too much away. Give us a downsized video centric camera that competes with the Sony ZV line under 1k.

@@-pg6767 it's not a still camera. it has no mechanical shutter and the sensor isn't fast enough to be used as an electronic shutter in many situations. the zev1 has a better sensor used in the fx3, fx8, a7siii and that has no shutter either but it is a faster sensor so it can just about be used for stills if needed.. so we are left with a video camera and someone who can afford 1500 should be able to afford 1800 to get the market leader ( zve1 ). they make films with that sensor, 60 fps no crop, 120 fps and a much more professional. so to me pointless. looks nice.
