While I may not be impressed by the S9, this LUT creation is the type of innovation this industry needed. It's so sick.
When that lumix direct deposit hits
You’ll know cause I’ll be with yo mama
@@cammackey LMAO🏆
The old like 1920's music when youre showing the x100 and then switching to upbeat music for the lumix is disrespectful 😂😂
;)
😂😂😂
Can you reduce the clarity to introduce halation?
Clarity and sharpening tools effect the micro contrast of an image, results in softer looks. Halation is more of a glow effect that surrounds highlight points. So kinda two different things
@@cammackey I noticed on custom film simulations from Fuji Weekly that if one reduces the clarity, the end result is reminiscent of using a light mist filter. Can the same effect be achieved with the S9?
"Viewfinder" is the most important feature for "Ideal Camera" for me, so I'll pass this one with heavy heart, because I really like the camera (overall)..
Bro countless of times I put the damn camera up to my eye 😂😂😂
go with the S5II same camera just mini
Same. I’d miss every shot banging the screen against my face before I realized for the thousandth time that I still don’t have an evf.
Love the LUTS on the camera but damn they really skimped on basic features. No viewfinder, flash compatibility, and a slow sensor with no shutter... tough sell. I guess I'll just wait for a future camera with this software package.
Why not make this a simple process on the S5II models? I will be waiting on that.
If only it had a hot shoe you could use an "external" EVF... but at least I'm excited for what this means for the future of Lumix compact cameras. Chances are they'll have those LUT features going forward and we'll get something that challenges the Fuji rangefinder type bodies.
@@thermalegoogle 100% on that! I was hesitant before watching the video but now I'm seriously intrigued by the Lumix LUT system. If only this thing had a viewfinder...
@@liciniooliveira-becas3618Lumix has said it is coming. The Lumix Lab app will replace the Lumix Sync app.

I pre-ordered this camera to go alongside my S5II but I wish the Nikon ZF had this feature because that would have been the perfect camera for me.
Cam spitting bars on that intro. 🔥
Well said!! 💪
I love how fast you can build something in the app and send it right back to the camera. Seamless Camera and smartphone app integration is what I wish all these recent cameras did better. I think luts are just their first wave of how they plan to use that app. Looking forward to seeing what else they do with it.
That intro is clutch lol 😂

Imma give it a few months. If other camera makers don’t follow suit, I will switch to this S9 out of principle/protest.

This is so cool! To customize and download LUTs and apply it on video and photos would allow me to transfer files to my phone on the go and instantly share it to social media. Now I wish other manufacturers would adopt this too, especially Sony. ☺
Great innovation from Panasonic, be interesting to see how they refine LUTs going forward. Enjoy your passion Cam!
im here eagerly waiting for the angry commenters to show up with my popcorn :) lmao
im here
Same😂
Interesting way of shooting for sure. More options for us to choose. Let's see what other brands come up with.
Fuuj users have been buying GFX cameras just to get the Xpan mode. Panasonic should tout this feature a lot more. It's killer
Xpan aspect ratio is also available in the Panasonic S5II
original S5 too!
THIS. If they’d just give us xpan crop on the 40mp sensors it would be a non issue but NOOOOOO, lol.
Thanks for this video. Even though I don't have the S9, yet, I feel like you acknowledged what the camera was meant for and it's strengths. I'm always looking at my cameras and how I can use them based on the features they have. Not what features I think they should have had or wished they had. This video and Terry Warfield's video were really honest and straight forward about the S9. That's what I need to hear.
EXACTLY BROTHER. People who don’t shoot shit, look at new cameras for their faults.. and then the people staying busy in their craft and growing see what the cameras strength can do for them.
Thanks for pointing out how damn fun this camera is to use and customize. Not gonna lie, when this first got launched I was expecting a crazier release and kinda disappointed. After a few days I'm realize how valuable this camera is going to be, and it looks FUN AF. I've changed my mind. I'm getting this thing. Anything to make photography even more fun, I'm down.
what lens can you put in there that makes it as small as x100vi? I have no idea why the two are even comparable, one has mechanical shutter and photo centric while the other is video centric. One you're expected to rig the heck out of while the other works as is, it just boggles the mind.
Huh??
Rig the heck out of???…
Not small rig cages. It was just a hand grip. You can use the Sigma contemporary f2 primes and still have a small camera. Panasonic can make pancake lenses but with the X100v/vi you're stuck at 35mm but with the S9 you can go from compact to anamorphic. That's not a bad thing. @@kevinfeige3240
@@kevinfeige3240 just wait for my next video.
@@kevinfeige3240 sorry, putting a different lens on is “rigging the heck out of it”? This camera, Sigma 45mm f2.8 and I’m happy I’d say.
Bypassing Lightroom and getting a look I like straight from camera to socials is something I've wanted for ages! Love this new feature. EVF and I'd have been really interested.
Dude what a wild intro! Lovely getting to hang for a bit again, such a fire video mate🔥 also welcoming the anger comments for my video need increase on engagement😂
Also pretty sure real time lut is a patent🤔 so good luck to other brands🤷🏼♂️
the intro!! hahaha
Haha.. not even close to killing 😂🤣
I hate to be the specs guy after that video, but I say this in a positive way, this camera is almost perfect.
It has all the aspect ratios I want. It has anamorphic desqueeze in camera. It has this incredible LUT system. Solid IBIS. Full Frame sensor. Small size. Great ISO performance. Solid AF.
If someone took this and kept the form factor but added a mechanical shutter, small view finder, weather sealing, and higher megapixel count I think I would never need another camera. I'd pay 4K easily for that combination of features and sell my other gear. As it stands you can create tons of amazing stuff with this camera just how it is but I can't help but wish that Panasonic or Sigma will release a higher end version of the S9 essentially.
Panasonic is doing a lot of stuff right.
Better than nikon picture control
So much better than everything before. Panasonic did a great Job.
If I'm in line for an X100VI, would you say this camera is worth canceling that order and getting the S9 instead?
Bump
No viewfinder doesn't seem comparable to me. The pancake lens is only f8 as well. Cool camera though.
No mechanical shutter, no evf, no ovf, no hot shoe, only cold shoe (can't use flash). This camera doesnt have anything in common with th x100vi. In my opinion the fujifilm is a much better camera.
The x100vi is better build quality for sure. Feels amazing in hand. Amazing expierence to use. But the S9 LUT support kinda wins me over. And I can also use it for video… and it’s the same size. If you think you’ll get bored with Fuji sims and want to push your stuff further.. I would lean S9. But I can’t really recommend either or. I suggest you try renting them or go through Amazon and utilize their return policy haha
@@MrRabbitTube careful now

Does anyone know the song? I keep trying to shazam it but the cuts are too short
Hey Canon Sony Fuji Nikon - pay attention to Cam Mackey. Take some notes 👍 You got outdone by Lumix.
LUMIX!!!
Very likely LUMIX will do a firmware update and add this to the S5II and S5IIX. Then the viewfinder will be there. It'll be missing a LUT button, but that'll likely be able to be programmable to a button. This video also made me tingle again
tingle tingle tingle
does fujifilm overheat or records video for more than 15mins ok lets say thats not an issue my main beef is no EVF and mirco hdmi not good...hey i love Lumix i have a gx8 gx8500 gh6...im not a hater just spitting facts....i get Leica d lux8
Yeah a viewfinder on this would have stole the show for sure. Im bummed about it too haha
LOL all these dudes are paid actors at this point. All Panasonic did was make a shit phone app that hardly connects to your phone via Bluetooth and wifi. Wow you can upload filters to your camera, congrats, you could do this with canon back in 2013. Infact Sony A Series cameras alow you to Bluetooth to smartphones. all you need to do is follow this same workflow.
Shoot everything Flat on any camera
Send photos to phone via Shit wifi apps from everyone
Go into Photoshop or a million other apps, hell even use the Panasonic Lumix app. (It doesn't mater cause its just a FLAT jpg)
Mess around with image, save the lut, apply it to any image his share and bam done.
Panasonic didn't change anything this workflow has been around forever. Since the inception of Bluetooth on a camera.
I'm hoping you convince all those who ordered the X100VI before me cancel and buy this instead so I can move up and get mine sooner!
Here comes a new era of cameras which i always dreamed of😃. But all fuji have have to do is add HSL sliders and RGB and tone graphs. And maybe something to create highlight blooms like Ricoh did.
2:43 - 2:58 FIRE BARSSS!!!
Now its time to move Nikon and Fuji or I will move in the near Future😊
This will be great for smaller jobs like social media shoots that wants fast turnaround times with decent quality
Agreed!!!
Is like saying that Apple Watch killed Rolex, they are worlds apart. Each of them have their own market.
Agreed ;)
It's always going to make some people jealous that you can pick up really any camera and create amazing shots. Panasonic gives us a quiet revolution, since this workflow you show is moving creative post-production decisons back to the shoot and the industry needs this. Many thanks for your passion.
I appreciate the kind and grounded words 🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@cammackey I worked with Panasonic for years, developing a VP system based on their laser projectors. It's the most humble company, everything they develop is world class stuff but they never brag. The S9 seems like a micro Varicam, but smarter, while also being the perfect camera for location scouts. BTW you have to put your street photography in a book, it's so incredibly good.
@@tobiasfalk9112 oh wow that’s incredible to hear!!! And man meeting some of the engineers.. they really do care. A lot of engineers seem so disconnected from the camera space, but the lumix team gets it. They’re doing their best with what they have to work with. And man I was thinking about it!!! Like stewight from camera to print
@@cammackey That's the book title right there 'Straight from camera to print'! Panasonic engineers are amazing, they're also extremely good at cutting costs. A little more marketing and they would probably have a different position.
This dude spicy.
😂😂😂😂
I honestly think this is the most stupid camera release ever in recent years. It's not a photo camera (no mechanical shutter) nor a video camera (15min limit) and $1,500 is just too expensive for it.
So would you say this camera isn’t for you?
@@cammackey I would say at $1,000 it might be an OK camera. It's just very barebone in a bad way.
Respect bro. Hatters gonna hate. Also, I’m looking forward to seeing your orange and teal editing you mentioned
"Did this camera just kill Fujifilm film simulations?" THIS camera? No ... because the camera itself is lacking so many essentials (mech shutter, EVF, flash compatibility). But their LUT implementation is very nice, and a future (better) camera with a similar implementation might give Fuji a run for its money. Would personally love to see this level of control come to the Fuji system, with their film sims as the base instead of the Panasonic base profiles.
agreed! Fuji still runs the game. But the S9 is getting soooo close. At the end of the day, nothing is going to end any camera haha. But I think the S9 just made the industry more interesting.
Basically there is already the S5-II, S5-IIx and the G9-II that are using the Realtime-LUT System and the plan is to support them thru the APP. The S9 is just a very small Version of the S5-II with some reduced features. This is also the reason, that there are already many LUTs available in the APP and on the net.
Since the LUT-format is just the normal one you can use in most video editing software, it is much better than the Fuji owned format that needs Fuji to bring out new color profiles.
yes I want that camera
Just wish it had a pop up flash or hot shoe flash abilities. And of course a viewfinder.
Same 😢
clearly i dont fw the camera atm but your reviews are what i'm here for lol. that LUT setting + app connectivity where you can edit LUTs and send it to your camera on the fly is gamechanging imo. youre the first youtuber who actually made me want to buy that S9 (maybe in the future when they go down in price and introduce more pancake lenses to pair with the S9).
Holy shit! Not gonna lie, I’ve been quite underwhelmed by this release, but oh boy, this is the best video on the S9 I have seen so far, and frankly, you made me wanna give it a try now. You fucking smashed it with this one, Cam! 🔥🔥🔥
Not trying to sell cameras. Just sharing what inspires me and how I use stuff!
good job! This is a proper review ...
Well f***! Not having a viewfinder just became irrelevant for me now. That system is freaking awesome. ❤
My big question would be, are Panasonic going to implement this on all their cameras. Downloading Luts from camera to camera would be cool for workflow? Maybe. I dunno. Just thinking.
I think so
Owww, this pocket beast looks like i lost my many on the ZF... This is the camera what i waiting for l-mount!
I see the S9 as a proof of concept camera with plenty of shortcomings. But if we step back and see this as a camera/smartphone integrated system Panasonic is really showing us something special.
S9ii would basically just need a stacked sensor that reads fast enough to make up for the lack of mechanical shutter and a second card slot so you can record both the lut version and an unedited version of media. S9 seems pretty neat but with too many dealbreakers for me compared to an S5ii or whatever.
Well once your profiles are locked in you never have to touch your phone again. Would be cool if they added all of that in camera, but would probably be a nightmare to use honestly
@@Healthy_Toki You can already save the original and 'Realtime LUT versions of the file. RAW+JPG setting.
@@baihu4u yes I understand but not for video, right? You can on the s5ii but it uses both memory cards.
My god i hope they make a new compact mft body and carry over these lut features and have pdaf

I think it’s really unfair the heat you guys and the whole trip thing is getting. Keep doing what you do best
This camera would be so dope if it was not limited in some ways! But it’s a great glimpse into the future of photography and cinematic motion photography! Great look in the specifics of the LUT concepts
Yeah I think creative color profiles will save photo cameras and bring more people into the space and leave their camera phones behind
Come on people stop wishing for everyhting under the sun this camera just gave us what no other camera on the market has. If you guys can't see that you are blind. Everyone is constantly wishing for real film looks specialy the fuji users. I am on many Fuji user groups and people are constantly posting a film photo and asking how to make it on the fuji cameras just to realize that it's not possible. I personally have 5 fuji cameras and have totally given up on recipes and find them gimmicky. I mostly shoot raw and edit them to get my fim look. This Panasonic S9 is exactly what I and a lot of other people have been wishing for when it comes to getting a film look and having the grading ability the Panasonic S9 is giving us. Great Video Cam!!!!
EXACTLY. The sad thing is the that people who comment the most tend to be the ones who are bored and having nothing real to add to the conversation. And then there is us. I know a lot of people agree with you and I they just don’t comment haha. But you explained it better than I could. Even when I send Fuji jpgs to my phone I still have to add an edit on them to get them where I want them. Not with this S9 and the LUT support. Like finally, we can really craft our own looks in camera now. Wild.
Exactly, this feature alone with its new implementation is a game changer for my travel fun photos and videos. After coming back I can sit in front of PC and tune even further and create LUTs with whole array of sliders and options. I have Fuji as well but simple example : when I edit my RAWs I like to have additional option to play with grain shape, size and insensitivity. With DxO Photolab I have plenty of different grain profiles while in Fuji there are couple of options only and non of them are perfect in my opinion. That's only grain not to mention RGB curves, HSL and so on. If Nikon implements something like this for Zf it's basically game over for Fuji.
Hi dude, users can import LUT made with Lightroom or DxO or other applications for Pro editing? Thank you in advance
Yes as long as it is converted to .cube or .vlt
Can someone please tell me the music score used at 0.45 and 2.26.. I would be forever grateful.
Thanks

I also need the song
Is Fujifilm a thing of the past with the Nikon zf and now the lumix s9? 🤔
I wouldn’t say that… but they better keep up haha
If I'm being honest I think Fujifilm kind of phoned it in a bit on the X100VI. I still think they are going to sell a ton of them though. We will see what happens in the next few years now that Panasonic is going after the same market. From what I've seen Panasonic's app implementation could be a game changer.
@@cammackey too much competition out there lol
@@jacobterrazas3147 I would have to agree with that statement. It’s a rough market though. What’s new is what’s hot.
The Zf is one 3D LUT update away from taking over the whole scene.
This LUT implementation with their new app and fantastic Panasonic IBIS are the reasons why I am buying this thing. I have Canon R8 which is great but I use my X-E4 most of the time. Why ? Because it's small, fun, has fantastic colors out of the box and I just want to pick it up so there is that. I don't use EVF, I hate flashes as I prefer natural light and even now most of the time I shoot in electronic shutter for stealth reasons. I hope synchro scan on Panasonic will solve most of the banding issues with artificial light for me. With EFCS it would be perfect camera for me.
I think X-E line is dead and X-Pro is going to get morphed into a MF camera several years from now.
Panasonic saw what Fuji X weekly was doing and ran with it. I think the S9 itself has a lot of shortcomings but the concepts around this camera are solid.
@@jessejayphotography Fujirumors recently confirmed that X-E5 and X-Pro4 are coming but in 2025 so both lines are alive and good. They will for sure have IBIS as well as X-T50 has it, so nice times ahead. In the meantime I will get S9 and have fun with it alongside my X-E4. My Canon R8 is on sale already (boring in comparison).
@@MrRafalEn I’m not up on the latest rumors, I guess. It will be interesting to see what Fuji does when that 40MP sensor is in every camera in their lineup. Has me wondering where they will go with their X-H line. That APSC sensor is tapped out with 40MP.
Fuji invested a lot of effort in color science. Panasonic is more like Lightroom built in, while Fuji is like a real film with somehow limited possibilities to somehow conserve the Fuji colors.
And I still don't get why everyone thinks this is new. Canons Picture Style Editor has been around for more than 15 years and was already quite capable from the beginning on. There even was a community creating and sharing new looks. Seems to be all forgotten now even though this feature is still available for all Canon Cameras.
Fuji colors don’t look like film. If you shoot actual film you would know that. It gets close sometimes though. And canon has never support LUTs and custom RGB curves for stills.
What I like Fuji for is that you can find interesting looking recipes on FujixWeekly and have a nice looking photo SOOC. Although other companies have some ways to tweak jpg they don't look near as nice as the Fuji ones. Now if I really want something special then I edit RAW as it's the only way to get film look in my opinion and no Fuji film simulations don't provide that look. So why Panasonic is different ? Because now you can create those LUTs with full array of tools and import them to the camera or to phone app. You can play with RGB curves, grain, HSL and all other advanced settings which opens a total freedom. If something is lacking in Panasonic app you can create this on your PC and import. Then you can bake those to both photos and videos. No other company does that.
The fuji film simulator still unbeatable because of the xtrans sensor, i can't even get the same result by using gfx camera.
Are all of the LUTs applied to a V-Log source? Or do you have the option to choose the base profile?
You can make them for any of the profiles
can i do this on my s5iix?
I've desperately wanted RGB curves and HSL presets in cameras for 20 years. Finally gave up on Fuji because it was too limited without these features.
Is this the first camera manufacturer made app that is actually good? We need more of them.
Well currently the app doesn’t suppose live shooting or anything like that.. so there’s room to ruin it still hahahaha
Imagine throwing a optical viewfinder on the coldshoe & zone focus like older film cameras!
I'm sold!!!
That's EXACTLY what I've done with the S9 and it's brilliant.
Very cool
I have one question. You can create LUT in the Panasonic app directly on the phone but is there a possibility to then import this LUT to some editing software on PC and tweak it even further ? I would like to play for example with clarity which Panasonic app seems to be lacking. Or another way, I create LUT on PC and then tweak it further on Panasonic app ?
Yes, you can create LUT from any software, include Resolve. Lumix accept import LUT at .cube
YES! So originally I had imported my roadrunner luts into the app and then on to the camera. BUT luts do not carry over changes to sharpness and diffusion type effects.
-no viewfinder (every smartphone screen is much better 😂)
-slow sensor readouts means ROLLING SHUTTER!
-no mechanical shutter+ slow sensor readouts means ROLLING SHUTTER by shooting moving objects.
-flickering by photography of lights.
What there isn’t even a mechanical shutter? Gee whiz
Okay so you just read all the downside, now what about the upsides do you think would be useful for you?
cold shoe- major miss
Wait for the app to be released and compatible with the s5ii and voila you get a actual camera with no limitations and the perks of the lut editing.
To enable the transfer of the LUTs from App to camera: (in app Second icon from left at bottom) disable High Speed Transfer and Auto Transfer in the app.
Not sure why,but I couldn’t transfer the LUTs to my camera until I disabled that.
I'm waiting for system update for S5m2 which allows us to use grain in Picture styles like Standard VIVID etc not only Monochrome and allow connection to Lumix Lab App. As soon as possible. Thx for that video
Spitting straight facts.
Bro what songs are you using for your musical transitions? Dope af.
All from Audiio.com! Link in bio
It will be nice if the camera can copy the lut just by pointing the camera to a movie that you like and that's it no need to spend time. With Ai on cameras it will change everything .
THIS, (LUTs)
+ lower resolution, like half of that:12Mpx with higher dynamic range (I love grain on low res, big sensor, like 5D mk1 or old digital medium format, 4k is ~8.3Mpx anyways)
+ viewfinder
+ bonus: video would be nice to have 1080/4k with hi FPS (120-240) which is doable for low res sensors. (I don't need 10bit 6k vid if i have incamera LUTs in 90% of occasions. It won't replace my all singing all dancing Sony or Canon, but I want something more fun to take with me.
Only cameras I take for fun are Fujifilm X-Pro, or my old Canon 5d mk1 which is bulky and bated up like a tank but works like tank too and doesn't want to die. That's only camera that every time I take picture I think it won't gonna look good, and I'm positively surprised after transferring photos to my computer.
This is rad!!! Also, love your style. I don't want a how-to, because I think I'll learn by trying to emulate. But, watching this and other videos, I want to figure out how to have darker faces and shadows but not underexpose. Your Lidar videos, Gottdamn!!!
I have to give credit when credit is due...Cam Mackey your content is really good my dude. I'm not even a camera lover like that...but your editing style is Top Tier! Much respect!
Completely agree with it only needing a real hot shoe and an evf.. also brass yes... and dual card slots. That would be perfect.
I just picked up an s5ii used hopefully they add another firmware update with the ability to add in camera grain
Hey Cam, awesome video as always. Really like what this camera can do. It is possible to download your film luts in the app? E.g the roadrunner one that you show in the video.
