People like to say God is "All powerful, all knowing, all benevolent". Impossible. 2 out of 3 at best. "Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side." The religious right was gaining power at this point in history, he addresses this in a couple of other tunes on this album. This is song 2 of that trio.

And another one the world needs to hear again so thank you to James who sent it in and to you because it’s great to see your generation picking up on some FZ!?Rory you’re very fun to watch, I don’t know how I stumbled across this sight but I agree with the hip hop sound. Never thought of it like that. I do believe hip hop was already being played on the streets of NYC and in cafe’s on the west coast but that’s not an absolute fact it’s just from memory.

Verdict is still out on the guitar solo not being Franks, but actually Steve Vai. If we noticed, on the newer CD's of this song, and not the album, most of the guitar solo is cut out. Could it be that it was Vai not Frank in this solo(also sounding like a young Vai strat solo) whereas Frank could avoid paying Vai royalties by omitting the guitar solo from future recordings of the song?

Iread the lyrics to this song in a crush all boxes tour book that Zappa gave out at his shows in 1980. It was a little over a year before the actual version was released.
I had it on a bootleg and as a result of reading the lyrics and learning the song from the bootleg... I was playing a version of this for people on the streets of Santa Cruz and the Washington state rainbow gathering... in july of 1981...2 months BEFORE the album came out. I wouild play Flakes... into.. The Meek Shall inherit Nothing and then Dumb All over...BUT...I stopped there... because I couldn't play Heavenly Bank Account...lol....I could now... but back then... I was a spring chicken.

I bet if you asked all the people in the world if they want a world without war, over 99% would say "YES!!!", yet somehow the world is always breaking out in war. We are DUMB ALL OVER, as Zappa says. We are now in a global nuclear Mexican standoff with unstable countries while tensions are rising all the time. That's as dumb as anything I've ever heard. Zappa had a keen sense of mankind's folly and he hit the nail on the head with this one.
