    You have to understand that in Joe's story-line he has just ended up in prison for shorting out a model XQJ-37 Pan-Sexual Roto-Plooker with his golden shower. He couldn't pay for it so he went to prison. So he ends up doing "Dong Work For Yuda", the song before "Keep It Greasy". "John's got a sausage, yeah man..."
    Gotta listen to Joe's Garage Acts I, II, and III start to finish.
    "We used to jam in Joe's garage..."
    Blessings.

    Lol @ it must be exhausting to be in this band.
    Edit: agreed with others. You should react to this entire album. It’s a 3 part rock opera taking against censorship and it’s fucking brilliant.

    The bass is wild on live versions too. Check out the one on the album “Buffalo”, for instance.

    Arthur Barrow bass Vinnie Colaiuta Drums. Sitar, not banjo. The guitar solo was recorded at a live gig months before the sessions for this album and it would have been a solo from another tune in a different time signature!

      @Grithron2 Год назад +1

      In fact the solo was taken from the proto-version of Outside Now which, at the time, was being used as an interlude during City Of Tiny Lites. (An edit of the original performance is on the Guitar album). The fast 19-16 backing was created in the studio. Here as in so many live jams, Vinnie is murderous.

      @@Grithron2 @Grithron2 Murderously sloppy at times trying to impress, messing up the fluidity of an already overly polyrhythmic Frank. As great of a " JAZZ " drummer he is today, this song along with others in 78-79 validated the expression "more is less". Not to mention the fabricated reverbed effect on his drums in Joe's Garage album, making him sound cooler than it really is. Tinsel town sales flop album demonstrated the true "tinny" sound of Colaiutas true drum sound.Ugh.
      Sloppy Colai didn't last more than 18 months. Replaced for Wackerman.
      BTW,ALL SLOPPY COLAI NUTHUGGERS,What's with his ridiculous matched grip on the drums sticks throughout his tenure with Frank??? 🥁. As any musician knows, Sloppy Colai ,after Gino Vanelli, switched to Traditional grip ,after failing as a rock drummer. A Less than desirable choice for drumming since frank was desperate to get a new drummer after Terry and ohearn left abruptly,do fast that Sloppy Colai had to audition on Terry's magnificent Rock kit.
      With sloppy Colai in the band, Frank had to overuse and abuse all types of sustained pickups on his guitar solos to compensate for the over rhythmically snare use drumming Sloppy Colai brought to the table,( Frank needed to change to a les Paul with dimarzio pickups)to compensate for the aberrated over polyrhythmic mess of sloppy Colais playing, after Frank's less than desirable solos, mid to late 78 using the SG with Sloppy Colai on drums,( listen to sarbrucken bootleg Sept 1978 where Frank's sg solos were not dediresble with Colaiuta),was akin to eating sardines with milk. Sloppy Colais overuse of snare drumming was too rhythmically salty for Frank's already polyryhthmic style. compositions.
      The fit was basically sh*t.

    Good spot. ‘Summer Nights’ was a hit the year before in the summer of 1978, & with FZ’s magpie like sociocultural acquisition of musical motifs, it’s not an impossibility.

    The complex rhythm in the verses knly appears in this studio version afaik.
    Live versions were a bit less complex.
    The guitar solo is from a'79 live version of City of Tiny Lites laid over a studio backing track.

    To be in Franks band you had to be a fantastic musician. Frank was a dictator and demanded complete control. Definitely in a class of his own. No band could do what Frank’s bands could do.
