What a great singer and performer is Jennifer Larmore. I am in love with her in the 200's the same way I was with Dawn Upshaw and Carol Vaness in teh e "90's and Frederica von Stade in the "80's. And I'm still in love with all those singers. Brava, Jennifer!
Not only does she have a great voice, but she's super nice. I did an opera with her husband who is also an amazing singer and she came out and drank with all of us after show. Very cool lady!
Papa is a King, mama is a Queen, and you are GORGEOUS!
She's wonderful! Totally nails it.
I saw Jenny sing this number in a concert in Chapel Hill, NC in 2010, I believe. It was great. Afterwards I was able to chat with her and get her autograph on the record jacket of a CD that I had brought to the concert with me. A great artist, a great woman.
So great! She totally nails it!
She is soooooooooooo good!!!! Love this performance!
It's lovely to see this acted out well.. She's a doll and does a wonderful rendition of this.
she's awesome!
Fantastic performance ... not only a great voice but a big personality which shines through! Great talent and highly entertaining! Thank you for posting!
A divinely lovely diva. She owns this.
A master class in 4:23 min !!! thanks for posting this!
wow bravooo just fantastic she sooo good it wasn't an easy thing to sing like that.she is such a good actress and singer at the same time and such a great voice...best wishes for her
that pianist is just sooo cute when he sang hahaha
very interesting performance, it made me wanna know what's next :)
The pianist is Antoine Palloc, who plays for Jennifer quite often. He has a CD of his own, which is quite good, as one can imagine.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! She's so alive and looks great singing this song!
I saw Jenny do this number in person. It was at the recital she gave at Chapel Hill, NC, USA, It was great! I met her afterwards, took pics, got one of her and me together. She did the Habanera and 2 others from Carmen at that recital. If Bizet's Carmen looks like Jenny at age 50 or 51, she'll be doing all right. In reference to some other comments which I don't really understand, I don't think we have to worry about Jenny not being able to sing. She will sing in Hamlet at a theater near you.
Aw that pianist is cute, the two of them make a great team
She is Prima Donna!Donna!Donna!
so funny~ so lovely~ so pretty~ so cute~
BRAVA!!!!!!!!
Mama is a queen and Papa is a king
So I am a princess (and) I know it
But court etiquette is a dull dreary thing
I just hate it all and I show it
To sing on the stage that's the one life for me
My figure's just like Tetrazzini
I know I'd win fame if I sang in Bohéme
That opera by Signor Puccini
I’ve roulades and the trills
That would send the cold chills
Down the backs of all hearers of my vocal frills
Aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aaaaahhhhhh
I long to be a prima donna, donna, donna
I long to shine upon the stage
I have the embonpoint
To become a queen of song
And my figure would look pretty as a page
I want to be a screechy peachy cantatrice
Like other plump girls that I see
I hate society
I hate propriety
Art is calling for me
I'm in the elite and men sigh at my feet
Still I do not fancy my position
I have not much use for the men that I meet
I quite burn with lyric ambition
Those tenors so sweet
If they made love to me
I'd be a success, that I do know
And Melba I’d oust if I once sang in Faust
That opera so charming by Gounod
Girls would be on the brink
Of hysterics, I think
Even strong men would have to go out for a drink
I long to be a prima donna, donna, donna
I long to shine upon the stage
With my avoirdupois
And my tra la la la la
I would be the chief sensation of the age
I long to hear them shouting: "Viva" to the Diva
Oh, very lovely that must be
That's what I'm dying for
That's what I'm sighing for
Art is calling for me
(Verse 1)
Mama is a queen and papa is a king

(Verse 2)
I'm in the elite and men sigh at my feet

Brava Jennifer👏👏👏
@adasilva26 And just whose interpretation DO you care for? Kiri Te Kanawa's??
I think Jennifer is FABULOUS, and makes it her own!!!!!!
OMFG this is a real dive
such a color in her voice GOD
haha love it for real and she mixes with una voce poco fa *.*
Patrick Boyle, although I would normally agree with the fact that the characterizations is wrong you have to think of the context of the song - Mrs. Larmore isn't singing the aria as a musical number in "The Enchantress" solely as entertainment. I believe with that knowledge this piece is fabulous. And boy, does she work the crowd!
Fabulous performance! My vocal coach just gave me this piece, and now I'm looking forward to singing it! Keep up the amazing voice!
Would you by any chance have a copy on e-mail? :-))))
I love the accompanist.
Very fine accompanist and very dynamic. I can't keep my ears off the accompaniment on this recording.
Wow, she's excellent!!!!!!
Great performance, but her singing is truly amazing. I want to know more about Jennifer now!
love it...wow!
That ending was awesome. This was so great!
stupendaaaa..l'ho sentita anche dal vivo in questo pezzo..impressionante!! ;)
she's wonderful.
Viva to the diva indeed!!
She did! Look up videos of her in her pageant days! I think some pageant in PA she sang this.
very fun to watch :) !!!!!!
Deusa, diva, poderosaaaaa
3:44 - Hilarious
Viva to the diva!
Brava!!
The enchantress
GREAT!!!!! :D
she's the best!!! does anyone know where i can get a score of this version? :)))) pleeeeease... thaaanks! :)
viva to the diva!!!!
Yes, this and "Ah! quel dîner ! "... that would just be hilarious!
Una voce poco fa - from The Barber of Seville by Rossini :) I'm working on that aria now, I think I will incorporate it like Jennifer did! How fun!!
HAHAHA 3:45 - love it!
kkkkk... perfeito!
She portrays a Prima Donna really good.
Wow - ok this is better than Dame Kiri - but it's almost a monologue the way she devotes herself to the words.
Brava!!!! hahaha
Hilarious ! Bravaaaaaa !
do you have the sheet music???
What's the name of the little interlude she does right before the chorus??
It's a piece of "Una voce poco fa" from Rossini's "Barber of Seville!"
excessive mugging but a good voice
JeLa? Hahaha, I'm sure she would love that.
the best version of "Art is calling for me" is Kiri TeKenawa....
Omg no it’s not. 😂
Смешная)
q fome el público, cero emoción
Agreed her singing is beautiful but still finding it a bit much.
@Rapture1987 Actually, No I don't like Kiri's either.
she is really overacting
thats her job!
Too much mugging, at the sacrifice of the music.
Alas this is all wrong. This is a piece for a blonde high coloratura - think Cunegunde, Blonchen or Olympia. Larmore is too knowing. The part is for an empty headed youngster not a woman of the world.
I do not care for this interpretation at all. :-(
