Come paint with me at the Fluid Art Experience in November... I'm teaching 2 techniques - the Nautilus Pour and the Wing Pour!

There are many artists who are excellent at pearl pours. Here are a few of my favorites to watch for inspiration - if you want to learn this technique and all that it's capable of, I highly recommend that you check out these channels as well!
@SaraTaylor
@PiecesofTaraArtistry
@COZCreationsArt
These are what I would consider my first 'successful' pearl pours. Here's what I've learned so far:
Keys to Success for a Pearl Pour
1.CONSISTENCY - If you are used to pouring with thicker consistency paints like I am, you'll be adding a scary amount of water! My recipe is listed below. These paints are thinner than what I use for Dutch Pours, which I have always thought was as thin as I could go. This leaves NO mound when drizzled off of the stir stick. In fact, it makes an indent.
2. STRETCHING - The more paint you leave on the canvas, the less pearls you will get. The first piece, I stretched a lot, and the second piece I left more paint on the canvas. The difference is noticeable. I'm happy with both, but something to keep in mind as I play with this technique more.
3. PATIENCE - The pearls will continue to grow for at least 1/2 hour, and new one's will form in this time as well. I used a straw to blow down into the paints to encourage them to form in specific areas... I'm not sure this was completely necessary. Next time I will wait longer before trying to add more.
4. The pearl paints eat the other colors. So strong contrast (darker colors) make a bigger impact.
5. Because these paints were so very thin, I used a split cup to reduce the amount of blending. There are an infinite number of ways to add your pour colors. Next time, I think I will puddle the paints directly on the canvas rather than using a cup.
Pearl Recipe:
2 parts Floetrol, 1 part Vallejo Pearl Medium, 1 part paint, a splash of GAC800 and water to consistency.
All of the other paints were mixed 3 parts Floetrol to 1 part paint, and thinned with water to match the pearl paint consistency.
Colors:
Chromacryl Acrylic Essentials White
Amsterdam Prussian Blue
Amsterdam Turquoise Green
Amsterdam Permanent Blue Violet
Amsterdam Primary Cyan
Amsterdam Primary Yellow

Really really cool stuff!! Those are obviously flower-child Jellyfish cells ☮️❤️✌️😁 beautiful!! Nice work Nate!! 🥰
You are the BEST 😘 Thanks love!
I’m loving your art! ❤ Not sure, but I may love your laugh more. 😂 So creative!!!! ❤️😂🎉
Great music, oh, and a beautiful paintings!
I’m speechless! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
Hello there Nate. I have been binge watching your videos ever since I saw the very first one a few weeks ago (um, maybe more like months...). You are a delight to listen and to watch despite the fact that I am supposed to be on a strict diet of only Karen from Waterfall Acrylics, Sara Taylor and our beloved Jessica Winterstrom - otherwise I find myself watching and taking notes more than actually painting. Thank you so much for your joyous, bright, generously informative self. Haha, the pun was not intended!
Thanks so much Lulu! That is some amazing company in which to be included - what a compliment! And don't worry, I make that pun all the time HAHA
Love your colour choices!!! So beautiful!
The cell at 14:40 looks like a sand dollar jelly fish. Cool!
Thanks Rich! It sure does! 🤩
This is gorgeous 🎉

Ohĺ Nate, both are just beautiful. The cells are crazy mouse! It reminds me of when I was 14, we always had a race to see who could get in the sea first. Good old Herne Bay in Kent, bloody jelly fish, not an inch between them, boy did ì get out quick! Love both pics, they loo, amazing together ❤ love to you and hubby xx
Thanks so much Linny! I'm WAY behind on responding to comments, sorry about that. But glad to see on Facebook that your misdiagnosis has been solved and you're getting better. And I love the albino sparrow pics you shared - so cute!
THANK YOU NATE FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL PAINTING AND HOW TO DO IT. I FOLLOWED YOUR INSTRUCTIONS AND RECIPES AND MADE 3 BEAUTIFUL PAINTINGS . I PLAN TO DO MORE WITH DIFFERENT COLORS.
Yay!! That makes me so happy 😁
Wow. Just discovered your channel. Love your work, Nate. Absolutely beautiful.

Thanks Kim!
Amazing huge cells! Love this! I'm going to rewatch!

Wow! Those are the coolest cells I’ve seen. I love the transparency around the cells and those lines in the pearls are unbelievable! They do look like jellyfish. Now I’m going to read your description so maybe I can creat some like that. Thanks Nate. 🥰
Thanks so much Paula! If I can do it, so can you! Let me know if I can help 😘

OMG now everyone will be inspired and want to try Nates "Jellyfish Pearls". NICE !
Hahaha yes! I’m doing another today and keeping my fingers crossed I can recreate the magic!
A video of yours just popped up on my home screen and I LOVED both these pieces, especially the 2nd one. It has such a cool composition and the color palette is beautiful. I just subscribed and I’ll go and check out videos I’ve missed. Thank you so much for sharing your creations. I’m hoping your pearl mix recipe is in the description. 👍🏼
Also that second pour was da bomb baby! Idk why I said that. Lol but I love it :)
Lol 😂 thank you!
That is so awesome!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Amazing cells❤ very nice work!
Very cool effects!!!!!!
Those pearls are incredible, Nate! What a great idea to use the Vallejo medium.
Those jellyfish cells wow never seen anything like that so amazing well done NATE.
Thanks so much!
That is pretty cool looking. 💕😊
Thanks Joalla!
Those are both very cool love the pearls
Thanks Teri!
So cool, Nate!
The pearls look to me like ice flows that have broken off a glacier. I couldn't get results like that if I was Vincent VanGogh!
🤪👂
✌🤟 😁
Haha thanks Willa! I’m no Van Gough… if I can do it so can you 😜
I was thinking jellyfish too before I even saw the title lol 😂 and the second one looks like a raindrop frozen in motion as it drops into the ocean full of jellyfish that are waiting just under the surface. Love it!
Early comment before I forget. About half through video & the piece is looking Amazing, just wanted to say the song you chose is Beautiful! I only speak English so I have no idea what song is about, but it is soothing & so Beautiful! Now back to your Awesome piece!
Thanks Julie! That song is called A Mi Madre by Caro Luna. I found it on Epidemic Sound. I don’t understand all of the lyrics either, but I know the title means To My Mother. 😊
Lovely. Seen it till the end and it was mesmerizing
Thanks so much Aishu!
An abundance of jelly fish! I love them 💗
Really, really cool! Can't believe how big the cells grew!!! Great job Nate!!!
Thanks so much Tami!
That’s beautiful
Wow Amazing creation
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! I'm going to try this pearl recipe. My pearls always come out very, very small. Very cool! Thanks for the share❤
WOW still catching up on my videos now that I got internet back after the hurricane both turned out so beautiful 🤩
Thanks Gerri! I’m glad you got power back… wow that took a long time!
Love all the big puffy pearls the. Effect is beautiful the way you show the consistency of the paint up close really helpful
So beautuful
Thumbs up 😎😎😎
I see you!!!
Haha! I see you too 😘😘
@@NateBrightArt 🤣🤣🤣
This is great. Gotta try your recipe. The first time i actually achieved pearls i over tilted in one direction and they all simultaneously grew elongated. Lol
I saw jelly fish right away and using a skewer i drew tentacles. It was great. A big school of jellies. Sold immediately. 😊 so cool!!!
Thanks Sue! Now that I’ve done it once… I’m hoping I can do it again 😂 these pearl pours are so unpredictable
So love your sharing!!!! really enjoy your sharing!! My dear friend~~ take care and have a beautiful week!!👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
Four Billion Jellyfish walked into a bar...
😍That second ring stayed so intact with those thin paints! I love the yellow lines in that one, and the liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinez! The first one is very cool, but the second one kinda wigs me out that it stayed so crisp with such thin paint! Thes
And the bartender says: you must be jelly cause jam don’t shake like that 😂
Thanks Kelly! Yes I love that I was able to keep those lines even with the thin paints.
@@NateBrightArt Hee!!
Holy cow Nate... These cells are amazing. I love the colors you chose. They both turned out so beautifully. LOVE THEM! 🌟👍👏💖
Thanks Carol! 😘😘
Those Amsterdam paints look yummy. Gorgeous color
Great pour!
I love both of them...so cool..I really love the first one where more color is eaten up...now to check notes!♥
Thanks Evie! That was my favorite of the two also. Subtle and dramatic at the same time - like me! 😂
Stunning!
I’m in Awe!! 😍
Thanks Jack 😊
So awesome! Can’t wait to try some of these by myself.
Thanks Mary!
Looks awesome!
wow
Love them both!
Thank you so much Sue!
Both are just beautiful!
Thanks so much Rae!
Oh Wow Nate! Those are Sooo Incredibly Cool! I'm going to Have to check out the description box & maybe watch again & pay Real Close Attention to your mixes. I Love that effect! 😍👏😍😍👏👏😍 That's a virtual standing ovation!
Thanks so much Julie! Let me know how it goes when you give it a try!
Gorgeous pearl pours Nate.🥰❤❤
Thanks so much Mary!
Both are so beautiful.
Thanks so much! 😊
Fantastic, love both.🙏👍
Thanks so much Mirna!
Both painting are absolutely gorgeous. The first has to be my favourite as it reminds me of a galaxy deep in space. Stunning! 💙
Jellyfish in space! 😂 thanks so much!
The center of the second one looks like a tornado! 🌪 Very cool! Great job love them both!
Thank you so much Jeannie!
Wow, so amazing 👏
Thanks so much Shiva!
Both pieces are so stunning, especialy the second one is fantastic!
Thanks so much Lydia!
Amo ver estas artes me traz muita calma❤
These are fantastic, Nate. The Extreme Sheen paints are awesome for pearls as well. I might have to dust off this technique after watching this. Great job!
Thanks Bear! Yes the Extreme Sheen work great. But as I understand it, the consistency is much more important than the ingredients. It’s all about getting it to that ‘scary thin’ consistency- at least it was scary for me! I’m used to using thicker paint mixes even for my Dutch pours.
Amazing Nate ! Love those jellyfish !!
Thanks Ami!! 😘😘
Love the first one, but second one is amazing!💙💙💙
Thanks so much Janja! My cousin said the second one looks like a dragon’s eye!
Wow Nate! This is amazing! ❤
Thanks Jeremy 🥰 Safe travels today!
Amazing effect! Big cells look much better then the small ones. Vallejo PM probably substitutes satin enamel and creates much better cells! 😊
Nice job nate
😊😇
Nice work Nate l love you 🎶 to
Thanks Raquel! XOXO
You are a fabulous artist!! Everything you do turns out gorgeous!!
Haha thanks Julia! But I only show you the good stuff 😂
@@NateBrightArt 😂😂
Wow, this looks so awesome Nate! 😍👍
Thanks Soraya!
Thanks Nate. I've tried various pearl mediums but could not get as cool pearls as you did. I got pearls but just a few. I suppose it is just a matter of trial and error until it works. 🆒😎😍
Thanks Annette! I’ve spoken to several artists about this, and it seems consistency is MUCH more important than the ingredients. I think the combo of craft paint and pearl medium gave me that cool jellyfish shape, but it’s the consistency that makes them rise. Give it another try and make those paints even thinner! 😘
Thanks for this tutorial cuz this definitely gave me some ideas on ways to master this technique that I have been working on mastering. It's that consistency....I just can't seem to ever get my paint thin enough and I need to add much less of the top paint. Gotta do like Nate says and go "scary" w the water. Awwww here goes another attempt Nate's way lol seriously tho thanks Nate
Haha! Yes - a scary amount of water 😂 I spoken to several other artists about this, and it seems the consistency is much more important than the ingredients. I think I finally found it! Good luck and have fun!
Vy jste tak hodný,že mě ukážete, jak má být barva HUSTÁ. Děkuji. Prosím titulky česky.CZ.
Thank you for showing constancy as someone told me that my paints were to thin for a pour .
Love both of them ❤️These really look like jelly fish I have done peal pours but these are not just cells they are jelly fish
Absolutely fantastic Nate! And to think you used NO satin enamel! I’ve been recovering from Covid so today is the first day I’ve even felt like checking in on my painting friends and what a wonderful video to come back to! Thank you so much for sharing! I can’t wait to try this…just ordered the Chromacryl paint soo…🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Glad you’re feeling better Treesie! Where did you find the Chromacryl? On Amazon? Good luck and have fun!
@@NateBrightArt thank you! Yes, I was able to find it on Amazon Prime.
I love the second one since more of the color is still showing. Any explanation for why the second one was so much different?
Thanks Kathy! Yes, I can explain that. I mentioned it briefly in the video, but didn’t really explain. I’ll do that better next time. The difference is the amount of paint you leave on the canvas. The more you tilt off, the more pearls you get. So if you don’t want the cells to take over, leave more of your poured colors on the canvas. I hope that helps!
It looks like a glacier melting, but i live in Alaska.
The first one kind of looks like big soap suds😁
😂 circling the drain! Haha thanks Kathy!
Hi Nate, very seldom would I leave a comment on RUclips, but this pour is AMAZING! and I also love the background music. Could you share the name of the artist as well?. Sláinte is táinte from Ireland
Thank you so much Tara! The artist name is Caro Luna. The first song is called Mi Palomita, and the second is A Mi Madre. I find and download all my music from EpidemicSound.com.
Gorgeous!!! well done!!! I just checked the November event and omg way out of my budget. I've been doing fluid painting almost 6 years and have sold hundreds. sorry just disappointed at the prices
Thank you so much Leah! And yes, I know it's expensive to come to these 'conferences.' We have 6 classrooms, a ballroom for meals, a paint drying room, etc etc. We take up a lot of space in the hotel, so the costs to put on the event are high as well. Not to mention all the paints and canvases! My class is a little cheaper because I'm a guest artist, but I can certainly understand why cost would keep people from attending. But thanks for watching - and I hope you subscribed so we can chat again another time!
Hi, thank you for this .. very exciting to watch. Just a quick question: Vallejo Pearlescent Medium - is this the one you are using or is it a different one?
Hi Irvashi! Yes, that’s what I used. I show you the bottle at the 3:06 minute mark in the video. I know the beginning is hard to hear because of the rain. Thanks for watching!
beautiful, my dear friend! I wish you all the best and the realization of your cherished goals and desires! let every day be filled with goodness, success, and positive emotions. I wish you happiness 💟💞☺ like done... stay connected🌹🌸🌹
Full support my friend 👍🌻🌹🌸🌹🌹🌸🌹🌹🌸🌹🌹🌸🌹🌸❤🌸❤🌹🌸❤🌸🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🔔🙏🌸❤🌸❤🌹🌸🙏
Thank you so much!
These are great. Ty for the inspiration. Are you in Costa Rico ? Permanently?
Thanks! And yes - I've lived in Costa Rica for 9 years now - and loving every minute of it!
Beautiful 🥰. What is the name of the song?
hello, how beautiful it turned out for you, please tell me from what composition did you get the pearls? from basic white? Or already in other colors?,👌💯💯💯💯🔥
Hi Svetlana! I used a paint brand called Chromacryl Acrylic Essentials. You can find it on Amazon... and the best part is that it is very inexpensive compared to other brands. But I also encourage you to read the video description - for gorgeous pearls, ingredients are important, but the most important thing is to have the right consistency. Let me know if I can answer any other questions!
@@NateBrightArt ✊🔥👍
I’m legit asking! I’m not trying to question you! But why would you put the purple in the chamber next to the yellow? Wouldn’t that create ick? I didn’t see any mud. So is it just bc split cups don’t really blend like a regular cup? My bf asked me to do a purple and yellow painting and I basically refused! I pulled it off somehow but like as a rule I try not to put those together. Again I’m not questioning you :) I’m asking the teacher questions :). And those pearls are amazing! Sooo very sea like! I love that you do so many ocean pours. That’s where my heart lies!
Hi Veronica! LOL you can ask me questions anytime. : )
I legit had to go back and watch that video again... I thought: I layered purple next to yellow?!?! And you're right, I did. And it is a dangerous combo. I think because it was in a split cup which keeps the colors separate until they hit the canvas, and it was in the center which doesn't get stretched and moved around as much as the outer rings, I was able to keep from getting mud. Definitely be careful with that color combo! But it can be done without getting a gross muddy color. I hope that helps!
Hahaha it’s such a crazy concept that you even had to go back and check! So funny :) but those two colors are super pretty next to each other!! I’ll have to try it with a split cup!!! :))
Can I use Artist Loft soft body white instead of the Chromacryl essentials white? Its just what I happened to have on hand. Hope to get something remotely close to those pearls you got! Thanks
Hi Jo-Ann! Yes you absolutely can. I know several artists who use that for their pearl pours. I even know someone who uses Apple Barrel White, which is about the lowest quality craft paint you can find. BUT they get great results - because they get the right consistency which is much more important. You need a cheap craft paint and a super thin consistency and you should get pearls. It just takes practice!
Can't wait to try it and thanks for your help! Wish I could go to the classes in TX but I just got back from the Fluid Art event in DelRay. What a great experience!
Nate in your pearl recipe in the drop down you don't mention gac. Can you clarify that recipe please ?
OOOOPS! thanks for catching that! I've added it to the description. I only added a splash of GAC800, not measured.
@@NateBrightArt Ty sir. I can't wait to try this. Do you think I can get jelly fish adding another color besides the white?
16:21 That's what she said. I'm sorry I couldn't help myself
Huge! Huge I tell ya! 😂
@@NateBrightArt 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Very interesting and unique. It seems pour painting has endless results, there's no limits. Have fun painting !!
