Asaf told the story behind it and he explains, “Theseus the hero, one of the four great heroes going to slay the minotaur inside the Labyrinth and Ariadne the princess helping him by giving him a ball of yarn so he would tie it to the entrance and find his way out again after he defeated the beast. I often wondered what would happen if he didn’t take that ball of yarn. If he was too proud, too broken…too me…to except that gift…too suspecting. He would be stuck there…hearing her footsteps as she dances above that Labyrinth waiting for him.”
what makes the song so moving is the way the chorus progresses. It doesn’t repeat but it builds. He starts with, “Oh Ariadne, I am coming, I just need to work this maze inside my head.” Then, he changes it from “inside my head” to “inside my mind” to “inside my heart” and as he goes through the song the character slowly gives up. He abandons Ariadne. That’s what makes it so sad. He isn’t the triumphant hero, he was too proud to accept her help and has to live forever with his mistake.

The lyrics, the music , the voice, the emotion... pure genius
I cannot listen to this song without crying. Like, ever. The emotion is so terribly raw, and the musician is laying himself completely naked before our eyes. I love how under produced it is, and Avidan allows us to hear the breaks in his voice, and the holes in his soul. This song is a gift, and a candid glimpse of a conversation between a man and a goddess.

When I first listened to this song (in Dark) I was captured in the first ten seconds. The music, the lyrics, Asaf's voice... all magical, other-worldy, haunting with a raw emotion. Thank you!
Been in a kind of depression and finally healing after several months. Those words perfectly express what I'd have liked to tell to the person I loved and that I lost. I wanted to come back all the time, but I couldn't, I needed to work the maze inside my head first. I know I should have listened to you before and be guided by you, but I didn't. And unfortunately, despite trying, I never came back as I got stuck in the labyrinth of my past. I am crying like a baby listening to this lyrics but now they are tears of joy as I know I am finally healed and found my way out from the labyrinth. Whoever is out there in a difficult moment, just please trust that everything will be good. Learn to shut up your thoughts as they are not the reality, change your "internal software" or maze by learning to meditate and do that daily. Spend time with nature, in silence just observing its perfection. don't judge or get affected by others' judgement, give what you'd like to receive. Become the observer, your observer, and whenever a negative thought shows up, you can decide it to remove it within seconds and put your attention where it deserves to be and in what makes feel fulfilment. Trust the universe, god, your spirit or whoever you believe in. I did it, you will do it. Blessings

I just discovered this guy randomly, don't know a thing about dark. I've been mesmerized for 2 days, can't get him out of my head. Can't even describe how he makes me feel but I'm transfixed. I must have heard it more than 1000 times since I watched that "Dark" episode, about two months ago, and still feel emotional overload each time I listen to it!
Loved the artist from the beginning (about a decade, we love him here in Greece), many songs of his are on my daily playlist, but there are no words to describe this song.
I think it should be tought in schools, along with the story of Thisseas and Ariadne, since it is based in greek mythology.
Did a translate of the lyrics for my mom, who is 71 years old and doesn't speak english and she said "He is awesome, he knows this story better than most of us do!".

In concert, Asaf Avidan explained that this song grew out of the idea that, unlike in the myth, Theseus failed to take the ball of thread to find his way out of the maze. Ariadne also given him a sword, that in the song is too heavy so he drops it. Martha on stage in her role as Ariadne is so incredibly painful to watch. And this music cuts to the heart. What a stunning actress!

Then, I could not forget about this crazy guy, I listend to. Took about two month of seeking, watching and listening in the deep ways of www, to find you again, cause I couldn`t remember your name !!! But I was successful and god thanks, I found you at last. I was paralised and amazed watching that scene in Dark because of this. They really can combine good music with amazing scenes.
I know this song is based in mitology but the metaphor of the lyrics breaks me so bad :'( . Even when we are capable to leave or flee from a problem that disturbed us in the past (the labyrinth), if we don't heal that wound it will always follow us, like a maze inside our head, in our mind, in our heart... The burden is so heavy, to the point of not allowing us our own happiness, blocking whoever wants to enter in our life and live forever with that regret.

I finished watching Dark several months ago, bit I just came here this evening to listen to this. I feel like I'm being hit with the whole weight of the series at once.... wow....

This song aptly summerizes the whole DARK Series. Martha is Ariadne and Jonas is Theseus. The Labyrinth is the complex timeline where Jonas is lost and is trying to find a way out back to Martha.
Martha did a school play or a monologue in Season 1 or 2 where she plays Ariadne...
He has sung so many beautiful songs but this is the loveliest of all of them 🌻
