Older Gen Z here with a sibling born in 1991; this was a tad painful, yeah. But it's really nice to see younger people getting into Nu Metal/older music in general. I say good for them!

That guy at the beginning "I associate Linkin Park with scene kids".
I'd associate them with Panic! At the Disco, MCR or Death Cab for Cutie, but not Linkin Park hahaha.
Bless their Gen Z hearts though.
Well I would, if I only listen to One Step Closer, and only that song and not anything that comes after it until their latest album.
what makes death cab for cutie scene?
I mean you can associate them with more than one band, and associating them with Linkin Park is entirely valid. Find me a scene kid that didn't link LP and I'll find you a 1000 that did.
As a fellow angsty 16 year old gen z core kid, im sorry. Please forgive our generation’s foolishness.
As gen Z, honestly half these bands i haven't listened to
I agree with this statement. We beg for your forgiveness 🥲
Look... I'm older than you and if you know System of a Down, a few songs of Deftones and Korn, you don't need to know more... 99% of Nü Metal is pure garbage...
As someone who is an 18 year old nu metal was my introduction to metal and that where I fell in love with the genre I be heard of most bands here but a few I would question as nu metal
It's the same think as saying "Forgive me for being a man".
You can't blame them. It's like making fun of someone for not knowing about things you know. Like I can rock to nu metal but I know Jack shit about it
Especially for such a somewhat “niche” genre I’d call it. It has had a recent boom and I think majority of gen z would still know some of these, especially the meme songs as well as the more popular bands like Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit and all. I don’t know shit about nu metal either lol. I know all of these songs and the artists and love them, listen to them near every day regularly in the car, but I absolutely did not know some of them were considered nu metal
Compared to other Gen Z reacts to different genres, at least this one had them receptive to our genre. I’m used to way more embarrassing moments.
Surprisingly proud 34 year old here.
I'm 17 and like Linkin Park was my childhood... Meteora and Hybrid Theory are my fav albums, I thought people would know them like they're so popular.
Same LP was part of my childhood & I'm 18 😭
I'm so glad my dad (and sort of my mom) are metalheads. Being born in 2000, I was brought up on Sabbath, Metallica, Korn, Pantera, Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, KSE, Godsmack, etc. The first band/genre to get me into heavier music was the Seattle Grunge scene, specifically Soundgarden. Fast forward to today, and my favorite bands are Opeth, Gojira, and Mastodon. "Favorite" genre is death metal (more prog/tech side) and have started getting into black metal a little bit (Ihsahn rules!). I have my uncle to thank for the death/black metal thing. Grunge kid to semi-core kid/thrash kid, to any metal teen to any metal, but death leaning adult. Also, I have you to thank for getting me into Spiritbox (one of my favorites) and other metalcore and adjacent bands (also one of my all time favorite techdeath bands, Archspire) so thanks Nik!
good taste bro
lol a 2000s baby talking about soundgarden.
As an older Gen Z, born in 2000, I've listened to nu metal/alt metal since i was a little kid. I've seen Godsmack, Disturbed, Staind, Breaking Benjamin, Sevendust, etc. Grew up on Linkin Park in the back of my mom's and dad's cars, i kinda hate when our generation gets singled out when this music was literally the most popular genre when we were born (at least for the older ones like me anyway).
It depends on the year and place. I was born in 2009 in LATAM and I didn't grow up with nu metal.
@Gibbymunista lol, I'm not saying when I was bronze, but my life has only been slipknot, mushroomhead, etc.
I used to be like 1 or less, and I would be sitting on the ground with a slipknot hat on.😭
The guy that did the Korn sounds and the oh-wahahaha did pretty great, actually!

As a 20 year old man, born in 04, I grew up on nu-metal.
I'm a 97' baby (The very first year starting of Gen Z) and Nu-Metal is my favorite sub-genre of metal. (KoRn, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Static-X, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Adema(with Mark Chavez), Staind(early on atleast they had Nu-Metal Elements), Deftones, P.O.D,. S.O.A.D., Godsmack, Drowning Pool(especially "Sinner" album) Evanescence and Flyleaf(atleast their first projects), and probably a few dozen more.) These are definitely later Gen Z kids who have only been exposed to these songs due to tik-tok and other socials, where as I grew up on this stuff and all of those bands I've listened to their whole discographies through and through. Funny vid tho Nik. 😂🔥🔥
PS. I hate and have never used Tik-Tok. Spiritually and in many ways I consider myself a Millienial tbh, I mean what's a year difference really? lol

Most accurate shit I’ve ever seen as the old generation of genz
I think that's technically every generation. Trying to create a clean line of cultural demarcation based on arbitrary age ranges doesn't really work. I'm an older millennial, aka a "xennial," which is considered a "microgeneration."
@@SuzakuXi feel like specifically in this case tho there's a rift between kids that went to school with social media on their phones and the ones that had to wait until they were home to use the internet

As a member of Gen Z, who loves numetal, I did not hate this video, but I do feel bad that they didn't know them that much.
as an older gen z, i grew up around this stuff. when i was a kid literally any music i heard before 2010 was either rap or nu metal. i remember being like 7 and seeing the teenagers that listened to that typa music and i always thought they were the coolest people in the world. nu metal is sick asf
Gen-z doing the same word association as Nik when we doing the "guess the song" One of them, One of them, One of them.
surprising when gen z doesnt like this. fun fact: i was born in 2010, making me a gen alpha, and metal and rock is so good. slipknot, megadeath, slayer, and korn are some of my favorite bands.
As a Gen Z kid i have two things to say:
1. I apologize for the cringe.
2. A lot of these channels require specific reactions from those who appear on them. People who have been on them talk about how they couldn't give their actual opinion half of the time.
I went to see a SOAD tribute band last year, I wore jeans and a Timberland hoodie and all the kids were like 'at least dress like you belong here' and I was like 'learn some respect I was moshing to this when you were an itch in your daddy's pants' - But all the kids knew the classics (urgh) that were played by the DJ and I was kinda proud to see all the snotnose brats singing along to songs that have clearly stood the test of time.
Im gen-z but I grow up on Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, GreenDay, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, AC /DC, Led Zeppelin (just to name a few) because my parents had taste.
Honestly, as someone who grew up with this shit, I’m with it. Rock on the nu generation
This went better than expected
Jaxon (the skinny, kind of dorky white-boy (I'm one too - not judging)) is actually pretty well versed in kickass music. I've watched quite a few of the music reactions from that channel and he is a really cool kid to be honest. He's one of the few that gives me hope. He's smart, kind, thoughtful and seems to have both good taste and common sense!
"I associate linkin park with scene kids" made me want to throw my monitor, my cat, my mother and myself out of my window.
As Grandpa Simpson once said “I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!"
