    Thanks for this. One question: I couldn't detect a difference in pronunciation between chcę and chce. Is there one, or are they pretty much the same in everyday speech? Thx!

    I find this verb so hard to pronounce. Its Nearly impossible. My native language is Spanish and I want to learn polish but some words are beyond any sound I have ever made.

    • @richardvalvona1159

      You just need to practise. You start with pronouncing the consonant clusters one at a time at first. Then eventually, it'll get easier. I know a bit of Spanish and notice that consonant combinations are very simple. In English, they are a little more complicated but in Polish it's extremely complicated.

    Why "Czego Pan chce?". Wouldn't it biernik, chcieć co?

    • @PolishwithMonika
      @PolishwithMonika  2 года назад +7

      Good question! Actually, both are correct: "Czego pan chce?" and "Co pan chce?". They though have a slightly different meaning which will depend on the context.
      "Chcieć" will be connected with the genitive case (dopełniacz - CZEGO?), usually when talking about abstract or uncountable things. For example:
      "Chcę kawy." ("I want some coffee.")
      If someone shouted "Chcę kawy!", this would underline the desire to drink coffee.
      "Czego pan chce?" ("What do you want, sir?") would be used for example to ask a man about an abstract, unspecified thing. If you ask this question with an irritated/angry voice, it will mean "What do you want from me, sir!?". So in a way it might be risky to use this question. There are more polite options: "Czego pan sobie życzy?", "W czym mogę pomóc?", "Co podać?", etc.
      "Chcieć" will be connected with the accusative case (biernik - CO?), usually when talking about countable things. For example:
      "Chcę kawę." (I want a coffee).
      "Co pan chce?" would be used when thinking about countable objects ("What do you want, e.g. a tea or a coffee?")
      Also, very often there is a "hidden" verb (often in the preceding part of the sentence) that tells what is the right grammatical case.
      "Rób, co chcesz!" ("Do whatever you want!) - here the verb "robić" rules. The extended sentence would be "Rób to, co chcesz robić" ("Do this, what you want to do").
      Hope this helps to understand the difference. This is also confusing for native Polish speakers. :)

    Is "Czego pan chce" a more formal one, like in Spanish "Usted"? I'm a bit confused with this one

    • @PolishwithMonika
      @PolishwithMonika  2 года назад +3

      Yes, "pan" is a formal way of addressing a man. It means "sir", "Mr.", "man".
      So, depending who you are addressing, "What do you want?" will sound differently:
      Czego chcesz? / Czego ty chcesz? - What do you want?
      Czego pan chce? - What do you want, sir?
      Czego pani chce? - What do you want, madam?
      Czego państwo chcą? - What do you want, sir and madam / ladies and gentlemen?
      Czego panowie chcą? - What do you want, gentlemen?
      Czego panie chcą? - What do you want, ladies?

    This verb is one of the most difficult to pronounce, and unfortunately your were too fast on your pronunciation (enter video), please slow down a little bit next time. The video was very interesting by the way, thank you for your time❤

      Hi! Thank you for your feedback.
      In the latest videos I changed my aproach i saying the full sentences. Apart from normal speed, I am also saying the words in chunks.
      Also, you can slow down the pace in the settings of the videos in RUclips to 0.75 or 0.5. Hope this helps.
