With most older tapes, it's a good idea to loosen up the tape pack by a full fast-forward and rewind cycle. This will reduce the annoying wow & flutter. Also it's good to inspect the cassette to make sure the pressure pad hasn't fallen out, and also to clean your cassette deck heads and rubber pinch roller periodically.
