The whole genre is rotten.True parenting vloggers who don't try to make money publishing all the private stuff in their kid's life should take their place and fill the space with values, character and goos example. Seeing your kids as basically monetizable livestock instead of genuinely wanting to share experiences and start conversations - that's a strong signal that you shouldn't be a parent in the first place. So yeah, those people are like products that never should have been placed on the shelfs in the first place, they should have been withdrawn from consumer marketing instantl.
I forgot, but that one family vlog channel where they were shown to be abusive toward the children is the epitome of being expired regarding Casey's second point.
Thank god my parents only had a shitty camcorder to occasionally record my soccer games as a child. If youtube was a thing back then and my parents constantly filmed me, I’d quit at the first opportunity.
honestly, I think that Jenna Marbles is interesting because she was technically "canceled" but in a way where she willingly left and canceled herself. idk how to describe it but I was thinking of her while watching the video.
i think it good that shes taking accountability i was sad that she left but tee noir’s video “i changed my mind. let them cry” gave me a totally different perspective
When you talked about RUclipsrs leaving and becoming mainstream celebrities I immediately thought of Troye Sivan. I think a lot of especially younger people don't even know how big of a part of the 2014 RUclips scene he was. Lots of people don't even know he got his start on RUclips at all... He's one of the only ones from that era/group of RUclips/rs (Zoella, Tyler Oakley, etc.) that is still as relevant in pop culture as he was back then, if not more so.
Yeah he was my first thought too, and he probably would’ve made a better example imo since basically everyone knows who Troye is but I haven’t really heard anyone talking about Liza in a long time
I instantly thought of troye too! That old vlog era was so specific but kinda ruled. I still love Troyes music and I’m rly glad he’s left RUclips and gone on to do music full time :)
omg totally! troye was one of my favorite youtubers as a kid and i have such vivid memories of when trxye dropped. it's super wild that he's made the shift into mainstream music and is kind of one of the faces of altpop, as well as having a successful career that is entirely based off of his music. hes def one of the most successful people to completely transition off the platform
Lowkey salty that shane will probably come back for real and ppl are gonna support him anyways. As if he hasn’t spent the past few months selling his merch before addressing all the shit he did 🙄
Definitely. If you’ve seen Rylands new podcast (the sip or something..??) then you know for sure that (some) ppl are gonna support him wholeheartedly. There’s so many comments from ppl who are saying that “ppl need to stop being negative” etc when anyone tries to call them out for their behaviour. Ryland gushing over JStar multiple times... It was gross.
I feel like Dan Howell fits into the "leaving while still doing well" category with him coming out and then leaving to write a book for a whole ass year
yeah especially because he has plans for his channel this year so he's still coming back. also i literally have a stan account for him so on twitter at least he still has a huge audience, and a lot of the audience will easily return as they did with the video he and phil did recently.
@@adeana_ yeah, up until these past few months he would just tweet something cursed once in a blue moon then vanish again, but apparently he has a lot of content upcoming
Anyone questioning why you can’t find it, D’Angelo took it down because of the James Charles’ grooming situation, but I think there’s a reupload somewhere?
Yeah but I wouldn’t consider her “expired” because if she came back she’d get millions of views again. Plus we still have Julien making content (thank god)
@Anne Shirley speaking of Trisha, I think she’s her own category or youtuber because over her career she’s expired many times but managed to resurrect her career, whether that be by joining the vlog squad, coming after popular creators, outdoing many in a popular trend (ex: mukbangs), or jumping platforms (ex: tiktok)
Michelle Phan’s brand used to be owned by L’Oréal until she bought it back. Also when Michelle left RUclips she was already a multimillionaire and she was one of the original creators/CEO of Ipsy (one of the first monthly subscription boxes). She explained that she really lost her passion for making videos but I think she’s come back 1, because she is the sole owner of EmCosmetics now and 2, because the pressure to create videos isn’t there anymore. I love her, I would follow her content anywhere/anytime
i love her and clearly she's way more relaxed and happy about her content than she was before. now that youtube isn't her main source of income she can have a lot more fun with it. it's really refreshing
i feel like rhett and link/gmm are the only big youtubers who haven’t expired yet. i mean i know they’re not getting as many views but they adapt their show and have managed to keep it going for so long. and they haven’t had any scandals. just wholesome dudes
I feel like a lot of people forget about Conan Gray, who I watched a lot before he mostly just left RUclips to work full time on his music career which has really taken off. I miss him but I'm glad he's killing it with his music.
it's similar to the Troye Sivan situation, I remember watching him in 2015, but now his latest vid was in like 2017 but it's so amazing to see your favourite RUclipsrs/Artists get famous as the years pass
@@m.mimi__obd yes! I honestly think Troye's trajectory of leaving yt/starting his music career is something Conan is using as a sort of blueprint for transitioning from his yt career to his music career and it's awesome to see 😁
I think it’s very surprising that Good Mythical Morning, and more specifically Rhett and Link, are still doing pretty well. They are kind of always evolving and trying something different, like the vlogs, the books, RUclips red, and the podcast. But at the same time the GMM show itself is way past its prime but it’s still going so idk what category they would be put into
I feel like Smosh is in that same category, past it's prime but still adapting their content and getting pretty consistent views, even if they aren't as much as they used to be
I think it's because their content tends to appeal to a specific audience, and they adapt to that audience's evolved tastes. 11 year old me found different things funny than 11 year olds now, and they appeal now to those 11 year olds, for example.
Family vlogs need to go. The whole idea of filming your family and everything about them and giving that information out to random people all around the world is really disturbing. You never know who is watching that stuff let alone why.
but isn't that what just vlogs are in general? filming your life or just being a RUclipsr in general. most people do film their life. and that's their choice. some people enjoy filming their family or even watching them. I don't see a problem as long as they aren't exploiting them.
@@ilovethehungergames467 exactlyyyyy there is no problem in filming vlogs to demonstrate what you do but it's much different when you exploit young children for interesting topics and views.
@@mony3463 yes. family vlogs are fine but I've seen some disgusting videos of people talking about their children going through puberty or giving them 'the talk' it's quite disgusting and if we are talking about that then that is wrong. however family vlogs in general are usually harmless and fun
Plus children have no way to consent being filmed and published online. I don’t think you should ever include someone in an online video without their consent (unless it’s a dire situation like with George Floyd’s murder)
Thank you so much for acknowledging how "cancelling" a creator/influencer rarely ends in them no longer having supporters or making content. It's so frustrating hearing people talk about how toxic "cancel culture" is for creators when it has rarely even worked.
yeah, those people that get upset that their parasocial relationship is getting threatened, their greatest fear is that their toxic fave will get 'deplatformed' which they conflate with the call for accountability that "cancelling" is . If your fave has fucked up so bad that you think its enough to get them deplatformed, maybe they *really shouldn't* have a platform anymore, because they've misused their platform so badly and they may be one of those people that cant handle or should have a platform. but you cant tell stans anything about their fave so 🤷🏽♀️
multiple suicides have been linked with cancel culture, so i’d love to know what you mean by “worked”. what happens when cancel culture “works”? people are exiled from society? they die? what outcome are you hoping for?
@@kaywho6477 The general idea of "canceling" is to exile someone from social media so yeah if it actually worked thats what would happen. But even people who fully deserve it like shane dawson keep coming bakc
Bo Burnham left the platform and is starring in and directing films and has made great comedy specials. Troye Sivan and Shawn Mendes are also ex RUclipsrs who are full-time musicians!
Shawn wasn't a "youtuber" He uploaded musical covers on vine.. Wasn't a typical content creator.. It's same w Justin Bieber. A youtuber/viner who now doing music are ppl like lele pons and KSI..
Charlieissocoollike is a fascinating example of someone leaving RUclips on a high He was one of the first big British RUclipsrs but chose to quit for the sake of his mental health and went into filmmaking
I think that mental health is actually a primary reason why people leave youtube at their pick. Tiffanyferg is talking in one of her video about it. Once you make it big viewers expect a lot from you, keep complaining, and it becomes more and more stressful. This hypothesis also fit to all the types of leaving-at-your-pick Casey mentioned.
This has nothing to do with expiration of youtubers but I found that when I watch the biggest french youtubers they upload every blue moon but they still do really well whereas american or british youtubers who upload every blue moon tend to not do well. Sometimes I wonder if it's because english speaking youtubers are more readily available than french or is it because we tend to be a more dedicated fanbase? Just some food for thought
@@caseyaonso4270 I do notice that Spanish youtubers are extraordinarily popular, particularly that one youtuber who has like 40m subscribers last time I checked, which not a lot of English speakers are aware of.

Not related but a university teacher of mine straight up quit his job at the best uni of the country and started making youtube videos. That's something that happened and I think about it a lot. It’s definitely not a sustainable job. This is why creators who are on here start their own brands to grow financially while they’re at it. It’s only till their channel expires.
I feel like its basically a job in the entertainment industry. Its a sustainable job if you can get the ball rolling, many youtubers have been doing this job for a decade already, even if they arent as popular at their peak. (I also watch more edutainment content which has a more loyal fanbase). Rather it is as unstable as being self employed, but at the end you get good assets like an entire catalog of videos can generate passive income for years to come.

This made me think of simplynailogical, she’s not what I’d call “expired”, but I do enjoy her podcasts much more than her normal content. I think she’s in the process of making a shift in content
I am fascinated by Jenna Marbles' "expiration" story. Because it was a voluntary choice, & If I remember correctly, nobody had called her out. It was just her saying that it was time to go while also apologizing for the racially insensitive things she had done in the past.
People did ask for a statement, and that's where a lot of things resurfaced, but I bet a lot of people would have been okay with a genuine apology and promise to make amends for things. In her case, I think people believed it wasn't a deliberate behavior pattern for her (unlike for sertain others dicussed at that time as well), and that if she simply denounced those things, she'd show that's not who she is or wants to be. That she truly wishes good for all her audience and for nobody to feel excluded. She didn't need to disappear, she wasnt forced to, but she truly wanted to for the sake of herself at least. I can respect that. I believe it's not over for her, she didn't really declare it to be definitive.
@@AammaK Thank you for letting me know! I was offline when it happened/ have always been a more casual Jenna fan, but yes! I feel like she’ll come back, it’ll just depend when

a youtuber that i immediately thought about when it came to the ones that left voluntarily while they were still doing well was dan howell. he left and went dark for like a year and a half, wrote a book about mental health, and now has plans to come back to the platform. interesting case.

Does anyone remember Community Channel? Idk if she counts as “expiring”, but she was an OG channel that started to post less and less and then stoped completely. And then she randomly posted a video before Christmas after 4 years.
A lot of creator's started out when they were teenagers / young adults and youtube was their first job. It's normal for people to switch careers multiple times in their lives, especially young people. So I completely understand those who left when their channel was still doing well. Like imagine having the same job from age 15 to 25.
I think Conan Gray is a very interesting case. He had a great audience and he started to gain more attention when his music career started. As he stopped posting on youtube, his audience still remained loyal and still supported him. When his song “heather” was popularized on tiktok more people started knowing him as just a singer and didn’t even know about his youtube career. I think he is going to continue to grow as a music artist. Go him lol!
Conan Gray's case reminds me of a mix of Troye Sivan and Olivia Rodrigo being popular. He has a bunch of dedicated subscribers and a long-running interest in music that eventually caused him to start writing sad alternative music fully. The music got its first boost of fame from his subs, but eventually people that didn't even know him for RUclips started to find and enjoy his music (which includes me). This is basically the same as Troye Sivan. Then Conan also had the mix of his song going viral on TikTok, which was a sad and slow song that teens on TikTok can probably understand. No matter how much people say the songs are overrated, teenagers can actually understand the lyrics, even if they aren't in that situation, and because the songs were boosted on an app with so teenagers on them. Then he is also a huge Swiftie, and Taylor Swift told her followers that Conan's album was good, giving him a lot of hype from Taylor. That last part is a lot like Olivia Rodrigo right now with Driver's License.
Technically true but her transition is the only one that I think garnered widespread negative feedback on and off YT. It's more like she became infamous after leaving. Also she's back making YT style content for her show's corona filming
it’s interesting because I think from the youtube audiences perspective shes expired, but to mainstream media shes popular. i forget what magazine youtube channel it was but i recently saw her do one of those “answers popular google searches” or “takes a lie detector” video. that combined with having her own tv shows, i think non-consumers perceive her as relevant
There was this true crime channel run by a woman named Cayleigh Elise, and she chose to end her channel in 2019. Cayleigh was unlike any other true crime creator on RUclips the level of dedication and care that went into every video was outstanding. I still think about some of the cases she covered on a weekly basis. This unfortunately led to her terminating the channel as it caused her great mental distress. Everyone was really supportive but sad with her leaving. When she left, she promised to leave all the videos up so people could continue to become aware of these often untalked about cases. Sometime in 2020 her chanel was deleted. I personally am very upset by this choice because these videos were literal masterpieces and I do not understand why she would do that when she promised not to. Nothing has been heard from her she went totally dark. I hope wherever she is she is doing well.
I'd argue some of them are still relevant tho, majority I have no idea what are up to anymore lmao but Shawn Mendes obviously huge rn, I know Cameron Dallas has been super successful as a model & has even done broadway, & Nash Grier while isn't as relevant anymore I would say he's far happier and theoretically more successful where he is now doing his environmentalist work, photography and podcast. Also his son is literally the most adorable toddler ever, I think he doesn't mind having lost a lot of those crazy adoring fangirls in the process of him growing up, making his career and starting a family with his fiance.
Also Ingrid Nilsen left in 2020 while still doing pretty well I think. I randomly remembered her name during summer (I watched her vids during the 2014 vlogger era) and checked her out and she decided to just end the youtube part of her life and do other things, not really publicly and I think that's seems like the best way to do this.
I met a former Principal Dancer from the American Ballet Theatre working in a big department store. It broke my heart. I don't have the same amount of empathy for these Ytbers
I would love an entire video of casey talking about smosh and Anthony padilla it’s really interesting what paths were taken by Ian and Anthony over the past few years
Absolutely, I don't know Ian that well, but I feel like what Anthony is doing is something a lot of people have noticed but not many realize to talk about. I love the trend of breaking stereotypes and misconceptions, and Anthony's work is taking that to a new level. Not only is he giving a voice to many many people, but he's also bringing less known names to the surface on this platform too. He deserves more attention. I mean his name might be known to many, but do people realize these guys are still out there making whole careers?
@@AammaK I feel like he'd have more credit if he actually took time to take psych courses. He just seems like a sensationalist journalist with no credentials :/
@@sl33pybunny Do you actually think that in order to understand other people we all need to be experts of psychology? I mean yeah, in the videos there is the premise of things being as weird and buffling as they often seem when we don't know a topic, but the way he uses those preconceptions is genius. What ever the topic, he always concludes with a positive, understanding note. He's a youtuber, he's never claimed to be a professional journalist. But he does have a grew and probably people constantly researching things so not to make any critical mistakes. That's pretty professional to me, on the scale that we are talking about. It's not like he's not putting any effort into the individual video ideas and just plays with the clout that comes from controversial subjects. It's not superficial like the shane "documentaries" or drama channels.
I quite like the fact that he doesn’t have much experience in psychology, because that’s not what his videos are about. It’s more about giving a platform to those who live abnormal experiences and lives and allowing them to share with the world. Most of his videos use the exact same questions because the guests are the stars, not him. His responsibility as host is to create a welcoming and accepting environment, where the guest can feel comfortable sharing without fear of the audience being rude. I feel like he does that well. His years as a comedian has made him personable to the point that he can make many different people comfortable, especially when talking about traumatic or uncomfortable topics.
@@AammaK I think when people are on a teaching platform with that as their "niche" they need to be well educated on the subject, yes. Because that's how misinformation is spread like wildfire.
i think pewdiepie is also a really good example of pivoting. he made let’s play and gaming content for years, but successfully pivoted almost completely to meme and commentary content over a year or so. not condoning anything he’s done. matpat made a good video about it a while ago
He’s basically useless except to dog whistle racism. Steals other creators work then let’s the creator get hate. Most subs because of a contest but ppl still act like it means something. His views are nowhere near even 10 mil never mind 100 mil.
This might be kind of random but the way you speak is so refreshingly calm and soothing. I feel like most creators are very loud and overly excited, which I do like, but it can be a bit much at times. I appreciate how chill you are and your overall down to earth energy
Honestly its so impressive how Rhett & Link have been going strong for as long as they have. Their content has adapted and changed over the years, but maintains its core quality. Truly MVPs of the youtube world who have withstood the test of time.

I remember when Marzia Bisognin left youtube a couple years ago. I was really upset because she deleted like 90% of her content, so I couldn't even go back and watch her old videos. I understand why she did it (and she's still active on Instagram), but I really appreciate it when people leave the platform with all their old content still up.
Ppl havent seemed to notice that deangelo has pivoted 2 times so far. First he was an art youtuber, then he made long form in depth commentary content on internet issues at the time, and now hes pivoted again to short form content which are condensed videos of his twitch stream about more low stakes (?) internet things
There was a RUclips channel I used to watch a lot called “Texan in Tokyo” They left RUclips themselves in order to focus more on their personal life and start a family. I just looked back at their channel and their last video was FOUR YEARS AGO, holy shit... And I was watching them practically from the beginning. They completely went dark on all social media except like one Twitter post a couple years back saying they were doing well. Really insane...they were doing pretty well at the time too!
Pewdiepie is one of the best examples for most of these scenarios. He’s pivoted his content endless amount of times, and he’s been able to persist through controversy and hatred from most of the RUclips community. Oh also! While I think Phan and Liza Koshy are good examples of people entering the mainstream, I think musics artists do the best. Some examples include Conan Gray, Shawn Mendes, and Troye Sivan. They all had great channels when they left RUclips and they usually left because they signed or had a song blow up. Great video Casey! I hope you’re like honey and never expire :)
I think it's pretty shocking how much Pewdiepie is able to get through all the controversy and still be able to achieve 100m subs. I remembered how much his comment section was super toxic when he was a gaming channel, but now his content is very much chill.
i think about “expiring” you tubers a lot and how sad i’m gonna be when youtubers i love in the moment are no longer at their peak because i just wish they could always be successful
instantly thought of Cyndago. three friends made content together but, after the passing of one of them, they took time off everything. now we have SuperMega, two of the friends, and it's interesting how they went from a skit channel to mostly gaming/podcasts after everything, but still being successful. not to mention they've edited for other youtubers as well, idk i recommend them a lot
I thought of Courtreezy. She used to make try on haul videos, and noe she makes more commentary related videos. It worked really well for her, since she had less than 100k subscribers as of March last year, but now has over 1 million. D'angelo also comes to mind. He used to make 20 minute, good quality content once a week. Now he makes 40 minute, high quality content once a month or so. He also posts on his second channel every other day
I think I've just noticed more that the channels that I used to follow for their specific content (makeup, exercise, hairstyles) have all become "lifestyle" channels. Bonus point if they have a baby and that becomes the focus of their channel.
When you mentioned youtubers that left at the height of their popularity, it made me think of Soothouse. They were a group of lads that would look at stuff on the internet. They hit 1,000,000 subscribers and then abandoned their channel. I still see people asking what happened to them on their community tab.
probably the most interesting is Dan. Dan Howell didn't upload in 2 years and just now came to Phil's channel but his fandom still loves him and waiting for him He's trying to kill his fandom but he is not succeeding
i feel like its important to mention that shane's content has pivoted many, many times. i feel like i have grown up with him and i recall back in 2013 he begun to move away from skits and did daily vlogs (a lot of the time with joey graceffa.) after his vlogging phase, he started doing those muckbang videos as well as that one phase where him and his friends would go on adventures as such (my personal favorite phase.) after that he transitioned into conspiracy theories and then finally, those long-form styled videos.
I was surprised Jenna marbles wasn’t mentioned. I feel like she is a really good example of going dark, but she left purely for her own mental health bc she was (and still is) mostly looked at in a positive light, whereas Shane went dark bc he was actively being canceled and wouldn’t recover if he stayed
casey, i have to say.. idk how long I've been watching you but your videos never fail to articulate these spot on points about whatever you're talking about. you really keep me fascinated. so with that, thank you :)
My first thought was Dan Howell, pretty sure he just suddenly left one day and we haven't seen him since except for his coming out video unless he's super active elsewhere and I just never found out
He was on Phil's livestream thing in the past month and they hinted that after he writes his book, they'll maybe resurrect the joint gaming channel but he didn't say anything about coming back to his main so yeah
Can I just say how much I enjoy the fact that you stay very understanding and almost patient when making commentary videos? I like that you don't "drag" people, you point out their mistakes and rightfully critize them, but you barely say ugly stuff. It's really pleasant and I like following your videos :)
In the “youtubers turned mainstream hollywood celebs” i think some good examples are Troye Sivan and Conan Grey who managed to transition so smoothly that some people who mostly know them for their music probably don’t know they did youtube.
Loved the video !!! I think that the main reason of switching platforms is not only a fresh start but also Twitch is way better than RUclips not only because they provide you with a moobot that looks after the chats and keeps it clean but you can also block toxic people. People on Twitch are way more mature than on RUclips because of which the streamers don't have to worry about getting crap talked and can have a fanbase that they desire.
omg when you mentioned successful pivoting i immediately thought of anthony thank you for mentioning him!! his content is so interesting now and personally i love it

Here's to you having shoes on in 2022 ♥️

I love how random this comment is 😂
When you talked about RUclipsrs leaving and becoming mainstream celebrities I immediately thought of Troye Sivan.
I still love Troyes music and I’m rly glad he’s left RUclips and gone on to do music full time :)
omg totally! troye was one of my favorite youtubers as a kid and i have such vivid memories of when trxye dropped. it's super wild that he's made the shift into mainstream music and is kind of one of the faces of altpop, as well as having a successful career that is entirely based off of his music. hes def one of the most successful people to completely transition off the platform
we're not mentioning it because it still hurts to think about troye's videos, and how much we all miss them
Joji too. It's weird to look back on.
Right! There are people constantly saying that they can't wait for him to come back like wtf
If that happens then we got to keep him on a tight chain and once he dors something problematic he will be gone again
inb4 he makes a documentary about himself lmao
@@daphnedaphn3 IM SO GLAD SOMEONE SAID THIS. i just have this feeling that he’s gonna come back with a doc on himself.

yeah especially because he has plans for his channel this year so he's still coming back. also i literally have a stan account for him so on twitter at least he still has a huge audience, and a lot of the audience will easily return as they did with the video he and phil did recently.

Same especially because she is/was still super popular after all these years and people watched her no matter what she posted.

*to add
that's why i said 'family vlogs' and not 'vlogs' in general.

If your fave has fucked up so bad that you think its enough to get them deplatformed, maybe they *really shouldn't* have a platform anymore, because they've misused their platform so badly and they may be one of those people that cant handle or should have a platform. but you cant tell stans anything about their fave so 🤷🏽♀️
I think that is what is so annoying about cancel culture. Things blow up for a few days/weeks and then just blow over and go back to normal basically
multiple suicides have been linked with cancel culture, so i’d love to know what you mean by “worked”. what happens when cancel culture “works”? people are exiled from society? they die? what outcome are you hoping for?
@@kaywho6477 The general idea of "canceling" is to exile someone from social media so yeah if it actually worked thats what would happen. But even people who fully deserve it like shane dawson keep coming bakc

Charlieissocoollike is a fascinating example of someone leaving RUclips on a high
He was one of the first big British RUclipsrs but chose to quit for the sake of his mental health and went into filmmaking
Oh I remember him! I feel so old now.
I think that mental health is actually a primary reason why people leave youtube at their pick. Tiffanyferg is talking in one of her video about it. Once you make it big viewers expect a lot from you, keep complaining, and it becomes more and more stressful. This hypothesis also fit to all the types of leaving-at-your-pick Casey mentioned.
wow, i totally forgot about him! loved his channel back in the day, he was so creative and sincere

This has nothing to do with expiration of youtubers but I found that when I watch the biggest french youtubers they upload every blue moon but they still do really well whereas american or british youtubers who upload every blue moon tend to not do well.
That last part is a lot like Olivia Rodrigo right now with Driver's License.

it’s interesting because I think from the youtube audiences perspective shes expired, but to mainstream media shes popular. i forget what magazine youtube channel it was but i recently saw her do one of those “answers popular google searches” or “takes a lie detector” video. that combined with having her own tv shows, i think non-consumers perceive her as relevant

I remember when Marzia Bisognin left youtube a couple years ago. I was really upset because she deleted like 90% of her content, so I couldn't even go back and watch her old videos. I understand why she did it (and she's still active on Instagram), but I really appreciate it when people leave the platform with all their old content still up.
troye sivan and conan gray both left youtube for their music career!!!
dont forget Joji
Ppl havent seemed to notice that deangelo has pivoted 2 times so far. First he was an art youtuber, then he made long form in depth commentary content on internet issues at the time, and now hes pivoted again to short form content which are condensed videos of his twitch stream about more low stakes (?) internet things
i immediately thought of joji (from FilthyFrank) he's such an interesting case of taking off from youtube and being super successful
yessssssss
There was a RUclips channel I used to watch a lot called “Texan in Tokyo”
They left RUclips themselves in order to focus more on their personal life and start a family.
I just looked back at their channel and their last video was FOUR YEARS AGO, holy shit...
And I was watching them practically from the beginning. They completely went dark on all social media except like one Twitter post a couple years back saying they were doing well.
Really insane...they were doing pretty well at the time too!
Yeah, i guess they just got sick of it and moved on im guessing.
Agree
Another category: An Onion who expired and refuses to leave. Idk who he's paying to keep his channel up, honestly
I genuinely can't tell if Onision got autocorrected to An Onion or if you're just calling him an onion, either way is great
Hey! Don’t disrespect onions like that.
i think about “expiring” you tubers a lot and how sad i’m gonna be when youtubers i love in the moment are no longer at their peak because i just wish they could always be successful
When she was talking about pivoting I thought she was going to talk about Simplypodlogical podcasts that Ben and Cristine do lol
from the title alone ik this is gonna be good 😭
Lol hi
You triggered the biggest childhood flashback in me by mentioning Ray William Johnson omg
the word "expire" is the most perfect term or explain all of this HAHA
E X P I R E
Expire was not an adjective that I had ever thought of using in this context but it fits perfectly
instantly thought of Cyndago. three friends made content together but, after the passing of one of them, they took time off everything. now we have SuperMega, two of the friends, and it's interesting how they went from a skit channel to mostly gaming/podcasts after everything, but still being successful. not to mention they've edited for other youtubers as well, idk i recommend them a lot
“after they expire” lmao youtubers age like milk
"After they expire." I choked on my orange 😂
Girl I'm eating oranges too!! They're in season!!
Have a good week mwah
@Ze4l Fish I feel like I get your reference
As a nurse, every time you said expire my brain thought they died 😳 before it processed it back to what you meant 😅😂
Same
I thought of Courtreezy.
He also posts on his second channel every other day
D’Angelo is easily one of my favourite art RUclipsrs.
Hate to be that person but I’m early for once!
Whenever you say pivot I just think of Ross screaming “pivot” as he shifts the sofa on the staircase 🤣🤣
Blaire white is finally expiring. Caught out for her lying and shoddy journslism
Shane is like that one dressing/sause in the back of your fridge that is like 2 years expired
I think I've just noticed more that the channels that I used to follow for their specific content (makeup, exercise, hairstyles) have all become "lifestyle" channels. Bonus point if they have a baby and that becomes the focus of their channel.
i’m already expired ✋
ugh same 😔🖐
I felt that🤠
I didn’t even make it on the shelves
@@spicycherrymilk9058 PLEASE THAT MAKES SENSE IF MY MILK WAS SPICY I WIULD CRY
Been expired since I was born
I know ricky Dillion edits a lot for other youtubers for a while he edited a lot of the Dolan twin videos
woah really?
When you mentioned youtubers that left at the height of their popularity, it made me think of Soothouse. They were a group of lads that would look at stuff on the internet. They hit 1,000,000 subscribers and then abandoned their channel. I still see people asking what happened to them on their community tab.
an example of a youtube that turned into a celeb is conan gray. he barely posts on youtube anymore but is getting really popular with his music
probably the most interesting is Dan.
Dan Howell didn't upload in 2 years and just now came to Phil's channel
but his fandom still loves him and waiting for him
He's trying to kill his fandom but he is not succeeding
i feel like its important to mention that shane's content has pivoted many, many times. i feel like i have grown up with him and i recall back in 2013 he begun to move away from skits and did daily vlogs (a lot of the time with joey graceffa.) after his vlogging phase, he started doing those muckbang videos as well as that one phase where him and his friends would go on adventures as such (my personal favorite phase.) after that he transitioned into conspiracy theories and then finally, those long-form styled videos.
My first thought was Dan Howell, pretty sure he just suddenly left one day and we haven't seen him since except for his coming out video unless he's super active elsewhere and I just never found out
He was on Phil's livestream thing in the past month and they hinted that after he writes his book, they'll maybe resurrect the joint gaming channel but he didn't say anything about coming back to his main so yeah
he’s writing a book now with two other projects coming, one of them has to do with youtube !
He's writing a book and building his dream house with Phil. He said he might make a return but has no plans to come back soon
Me when I’m already expired 🏃🏼♀️💨
omg when you mentioned successful pivoting i immediately thought of anthony thank you for mentioning him!! his content is so interesting now and personally i love it
