Yeah, but if for example Louis would be a girl, everybody thinks they are in a relationship. For example: h and l were holding hands a couple of times on camera. But if there is one photo on an "privat wedding", where hes holding the hand of a blonde woman, everybody thinks they're dating. I just think that's messed up
Yes and that you can literally hold hands with your friends. You can hug your friends. You can literally, even if you are straight, touch and be physically affectionate with you friends. I just... its not that hard.
Right, my best friend and I always joke about marrying eachother and dying together, hold hands, hug and stuff, but at the end of the day we are still friends, she's still straight and nothing more, people really haven't had a good platonic friendship, and it shows.
that interview lauren made about how it affect her and her relationship with camila honestly breaks my heart. fans really outed her without her consent why the fuck would you do that to someone you supposedly look up to?
@@kaepiper I think a ton of people did but still seeing people ship camren after that is so rough... I was one that speculated they may have had something but I wasn't obsessive about it and seeing how genuine her feelings were, how passionate she was about what she was saying, I instantly felt gross and regretted everything and I wish everyone else felt that way too.
funniest thing a larry ever did. was when one of them was like “hey turns out my dorm had mold in it and now that it’s cleared out i don’t believe larry is a thing anymore”
It being their job isn't mutualy exclusive of actors having chemistry; it isn't "their jobs" to have chemistry, and it's not super common for actors to actually have it in the first place. People are stupid and _can_ mistake platonic chemistry for attraction, but in some cases it's pretty obvious that while it'd (a relationship or affair) never happen, physical attraction on-set _does_ happen. (I'm not advocating for shipping beople, btw; I just found your statement factually debatable)
@@Daggeira if the actors are going to be playing a couple on a film or tv show, the showrunners will likely test their chemistry before employing them. They’re probably going to look good together, they’ll be engaging while talking to each other, they’ll probably get along really well too. That’s all part of what most casting teams will be looking for. The insinuation that people who are hired to have chemistry having chemistry is proof of them being together in real life will always be very weird.
@@tam9639 They care if they look good together, yes, but they don't give a rat's ass if they get along. If they gave a shit, I wouldn't be constantly put off by the _lack_ of chemistry in most things I've seen. I _know_ there's examples of people being cast together that _hate_ each other, I just can't think ofone off the top of my head at the moment.
a good example is john Krasinski and Jenna Fischer. they both played parts on the office and yes, they were romantically involved, but only in the show. john literally has a wife, i’ve seen so many people bash emily blunt for being married to john instead of jenna being married to him. it’s really disappointing because all of those people have lives and partners
I watched fair share of TV shows and let me tell you, you can tell when there is actual chemistry and when there is none / acting. I don't condone this toxic shipping, but I get where it's comming from
I feel like shipping should only be a thing that involves fictional characters rather than real people. At least for me, Ik that shipping fictional characters won’t cause any negative IRL situations.
Oh you sweet summer child, wait until you get death threats in your private messages because you commented once how you like a fan art of a super popular cowboy character with a bad ass but less popular cowgirl from a shooting game, instead of shipping him with a emo samurai/ninja. Fiction of real life, shippers are rather insane people.
another example of a toxic real life ship is septiplier when both members of the ship were like “hey, if you wanna draw us being bros that’s fine, but please dont draw us having sex with each other” and to put it as sean did, “shipping real people always gets sexual”
Yes, exactly what I was thinking about while watching this. Septiplier started out as two friends joking around and the fans RAN with it. I remember seeing rabid fans hating on their girlfriends because they were "ruining Septiplier".
I do wonder how celebrities feel about having their characters drawn in explicit scenarios. I remember that interview of Michael Fassbender and James Mcavoy, they laughed it out but clearly it was super uncomfortable for them. And if they ever said something they know they would face awful backlash, but those are their bodies at the end of the day.
ugh i was in this ship fandom for years and looking back it is literally INSANE how the videos of “evidence” is them looking at each other for two seconds. like what??? i feel like i was starting to cross the line a little when i dismissed their feelings on how the ship made them both uncomfortable. i loved the idea so much that i forgot they were REAL people! i’m glad i got over that ship bc omg- I wrote fan fiction on wattpad when i was like thirteen or fourteen. i had like 400 followers and to me who still doesn’t have followers on anything, was a lot. i reread those sometimes and they are so cringy omfg. anyway, i think it is so much more healthy to ship fictional people instead of actual people for obvious reasons.
hearing lauren say how much the shipping stuff affected her is so sad. i don't understand how some shippers can keep doing this stuff when even their idols have already said how uncomfortable it makes them...
cause they dont really care about those people i have a suspicion that these ships got so popular cause its people looking for representation and are so desperate for it they'll harass real life people to get it
I'm a "fan" of exactly one kpop ship, and even then I mostly just look at pictures of them together and go "aww, cute". I see it as a completely separate world from the actual idols, like there's character them and real life them and they aren't even the same people. I can't imagine there ever being an overlap, trying to ask the actual people about the ship, or genuinely believing they're together.. and thats just not my business. I also can never read or look at smut of real people its so weird to me 💀. Some of these people are hella loud though..
what always bothered me (a lesbian) about these gay pairings is that it’s almost always straight girls fetishizing them and making theories about who the top/bottom is in the relationship
right! the part where lauren was talking about how she as a bisexual woman felt like the predator in the situation bc ppl made it seem like she was “turning” camilla hit hard. bc as a bi girl myself i remember the shame i felt in locker rooms in high school due to internalized homophobia and i would look at the floor while other girls were changing bc i felt predatory, so i know where she’s coming from. and its even worse bc in her case she was a celebrity with a rabid fanbase pushing these theories. i can’t imagine the discomfort, i feel so bad for her.
Not to mention most of the time they always put traditionally "feminine" appearing people the bottom. Like ??? Edit: before I figured out I was ace, I had a bicurious phase where I was like, "zero attraction to men, zero to women is bi!" And in the case of same sex relationships it always was annoying cause people considered me "dominant" because I wasn't as "feminine", like sexual preferences have nothing to do with masculine or feminine attributes
Also a reminder that Camila and Lauren were literally underage (15-16) when the shipping started. So people were writing sexual fanfiction about them when they were CHILDREN.
@@AngelViews wouldn't that make it better not worse? Like idea of adults shipping children is much grosser to me than the idea of teens going through puberty exploring their own fantasies by projecting them on to famous people who are also their age
I get really pissed off by people who say that straight men should be able to be more open with their emotions and affections without it being a socially weird thing and then turn around and assume that any time two guys seem close or show physical affection they must be in a romantic relationship.. like you can't have it both ways.
People will preach about how we should normalize straight men being affectionate with their friends and then ship those men when they so much as stand next to each other
What we need is more LGBTQ+ representation so that people stop shipping poor guys being good affectionate friends. I'm not saying it'll stop it I'm just saying sometimes it looks like a cry for help
like personally if the person does ship someone but know sit probably wont happen or it is not real its ok i guess BUT SOME PEOPLE HAVE REALLY FORGOTTEN WHERE THE LINE IS
i admit i find some people really cute together but i don't go out of my way to comment about it publicly and be obsessive about it because i know how it feels like to be incessantly teased with someone i'm not in a relationship with and it SUCKS
@@charliebun4454 why ship people at all, you wouldn't write a slowburn fic and have a twitter ship account for your dentist and their assistant, so how come famous people are fair game
What kills me the most is that by and large when ppl try to insist these celebrities are secretly gay, they always do so in EXCEPTIONALLY homophobic ways while deflecting any critique as being homophobia.
Seriously. The same things happen with fictional characters too, but it's so much more toxic for real people because of obvious reasons. Instead of infantalizing anyone who might be a gay man and sexualizing anyone who might be a gay woman, stop and think about why you think about this character like that. Ik this is already an essay, but I think that the reason "oh but they are SECRETLY gay" is so sensationalized irl because of drama media. Fictional media drama is different that real life drama and so many people can't differentiate. The ships mentioned in this video sound like tv show ships that people look into subtext and television writing to find, but you just can't do that in real life because people are so different.
@@LoveLove-fp2rn yes, when you mention that gaylor theories are essentially trying out her (if the theories are true) they say she's a celebrity so it's finr
One thing that I found really unforgivable about the overly... *DEDICATED* Larry stans was when they were claiming that Louis’ child was fake. Not just “oh Management™️ made him have a baby with a woman to put the Larry ship to rest”, but the people who said his son was flat out not real, that he was holding a doll/someone else’s baby, etc. Like, that’s next level boundary crossing
Yep....saying everything is a pr stunt must be tiring they wont be able to use that excuse anymore after a while once another year goes by and Louis and Harry still not together
YES. This was the moment that really turned me away from shipping real people because it felt so extreme and so gross to even ~speculate~ that someone’s child was fake.
@@cadyfitzgerald3273 yea kinda i feel disgusting because i fell into that shipping trap with Louis and Harry when i joined the fandom I ended up leaving because the fans are super toxic its just a bunch of Larries shipping and talking about Larry in every vid
@@-criedjupiter-8464 Exactly! And God forbid you ever point out that some of their “proof” seems a bit far fetched or a little insulting to either Louis or Harry. Such a toxic community.
Yeah. Or they would guess someone’s sexuality and make people involved even more uncomfortable. It’s so disgusting. Even if the ship is real it’s straight up outing
Yeah, I saw blogs dedicated to prove that Sebastian Stan and Chris Evans are secretly dating each other. They wear basic tshirts clothes you can find in every wardrobe, the shippers look at them and say "omfg they are sharing clothes 👀"
Yeah the best example of this is Dan and Phil. People went TO THEIR APARTMENT BUILDING to try and figure out where they lived, and they could never do a q&a online without half the comments being "are you gay" or "are you and Phil/Dan dating". It's so sad to witness popular people shut down their personal life for fear of people judging or intruding on them
thank you for bringing up the “you’re homophobic” argument. i see larries throw this around on twitter all the time. what they don’t realize is that a lot of their “proof” is based in gay stereotypes. you covered this really well, i hope it brings light to some shippers. i always love your videos
i used to be a larry like hardcore and then o realized that these shippers can be so disgusting and they sexualize young people and it made realize “oh this isn’t okay” so i stoped and i’ve heard the “ your just homophobic” which is just stupid
@@oliviamoore2849 back when i was a larrie *sigh*(im still disgusted by myself), i never used the “homophobic” projection at antis. just cause i didn’t see their clarity as that way. i just thought they were dumb for some reason. in all honesty, larries are the more homophobic ones as opposed to antis. i was in a two space the other day, antis v larries, and a gay man spoke on the topic. he mentioned how first of all, the majority of people shipping them and just speaking on the topic in general are all cishet women. he spoke and said that the majority of larry “proofs” rely on homophobic stereotypes about gay men, the sexualization of mlm relationships, and toxic masculinity. which is all so true. they rely on tiny little things about like “his wrist was limp” or “he was acting flamboyant or feminine” (homophobic stereotypes). the fanfics, the tweets about their private life, larport, titanic bus thing, stage stuff even, the videos about their “sexual tension” (sexualization). and the idea that two men can’t be close friends but in a relationship together or feminine or flamboyant (toxic masculinity). he went in about stuff like that but the larries, these tween girls to even grown women, were invalidating and discrediting all of the points he made.......AS A GAY MAN

People have been saying recently that shipping within the minecraft RUclips community is a repeat of the septiplier deal and it’s so true (at least from what I’ve seen, I’m not in MCYT)
Yeah, Corpse and Sykunno were the first people I thought of when she mentioned real-life ships, it got to the point where I wasn't enjoying their content just because of the fans (although that also goes beyond just shipping)
one of the worst parts with the whole camren thing was lauren was actually outed by fans. they hacked into her family member's wedding photobooth site and leaked pictures of her and her then girlfriend at the time kissing. perez hilton then published an article about it and she was FORCED to come out. it's terrible because then people used to "reaffirm" their beliefs and also harassed her girlfriend.
@@theautismrizzler same. i got shipped with a close friend of mine for years because he liked to tease me. i stopped talking to him for a year because of it
a couple theories: 1. some people of the lgbt community ship larry and other real people because they see it as a projection of themselves, being closeted and not being able to come out, they relate to the members. 2. some straight people ship larry because they'd rather see harry and louis with each other than seeing them with a woman who's not them, so yeah, jealousy. the misogyny in the larry fandom is concerning ngl.
I think on a different level camren is wanting to see a lesbian relationship. I ship many ships that are WLW( there all fictional charters) purely because it is good representation. There are very few good healthy wlw relationship in media so we have to create our own. I can only think of 2 movies that came out in the last 5 years that had wlw relationship.
ALSO romanticizing the idea of a hidden gay relationship is so gross. when i was in middle school and had to hide my relationship my straight friend said it was kind of “sexy” to have a secret relationship, when all i wanted was to be accepted. using it for ur straight “angst” or as a background for a wattpad story is 🤢
I had kind of an affair with a friend back in highschool, not a relationship but just screwing around. The thing is that I've developed a strong kink for secret gay affairs because of this. It brings me back I guess, even if I know it's not a good thing and I myself had a terrible time because of how secretive it was.
although i often didn't ship real people too much, I did have one ship I was into for awhile when I was around 13. and it's upsetting when I think about it now; I never wrote any fanfiction or created any fanart of the two, but the content creators knew people were shipping them because the shippers would send their fanart and fanfics to their P.O. boxes to open for videos. i feel like i probably shipped them (and all my other malexmale anime ships) because of my repressed bicuriosity, and also fanfic and fanart being my introduction to sexuality and pornography as a whole. i never understood why i found hidden gay relationships to be exciting/alluring when I was shipping them, which makes me hope that there will be different ways for celebrities to protect their privacy in the future when experiencing stuff like this :/. if their fans can't even understand why what they're doing is wrong, even after it is pointed out to them repeatedly, there should really be some sort of way for celebrities to not have their privacy invaded.
as a former die hard larry shipper I think a lot of gay ships are rooted in the mindset of "I don't want my fav ending up with a woman, so it would be better if they were gay" and the internal misogyny that comes with that.
to be honest i don't even think it's a good idea to ship people who are together... like i can't imagine the public pressure you would feel to stay in a relationship that has run its course just because people have grown attached to the two of you as a couple. i think we should just leave people and their relationships be, so long as they are healthy and consensual
a less popular opinion: and if the people confirmed being in a relationship, obsessing over it and being invasive is also a not good thing. it shouldn't be treated like a ship being canon, just being happy for those people and minding your business should be the extend of it, because real people's love lives don't exist to satisfy "shippers" and aren't a fanfic fodder
Do these types of shippers not understand that platonic relationships exist? Or that any form of affection is not inherently sexual?? Or that not everyone wants to be in the pants of any person, even if they're close to them in some way??? Like, it's so bonkers to me that they don't seem to realize that people have standards, preferences, specific attractions (or a lack thereof such as asexuality), specific feelings to one another, and most of all BOUNDARIES that should be respected by the public, ESPECIALLY when the parties involved state so.
Its like they never had a friend 😭 girl you can assume someone's elses sexuality without shipping them with their bestfriend. Being close to someone doesn't automatically means being attracted to them 😶
I think you're making the mistake that "Shipping" is inherently sexual, which it isn't. "Shipping" is a shortened version of "Relationshipping" which covers ALL relationships, sexual ones just happen to be more prevalent.
@@GummyDinosaursify But I'm not. I know what shipping is, and I know that it isn't inherently sexual. That's why I said at the beginning of my comment "Do *THESE TYPES* of shippers...", not all shippers. I was specifically referring to those that were the focus of this video. As Casey described: the ones who are toxic, particularly those who ship actual people and not characters, those who create conspiracy theories and/or rumors on real people and their relationships/sexualities, and will use any display of affection between the shipees -- no matter how small and unromantic -- to push the narrative that they're secretly in love. I'm talking about those who are so unrelenting with spreading their ship theories and wanting to see it confirmed/happen that it crosses into harassment and/or fetishization. Platonic relationships are far more charged than romantic/sexual ones, and speculating on a real peoples' clearly platonic relationships to be actually sexual can be harmful to the parties involved. As explained in the video, these types of shippers have negatively affected the relationships of these celebrities/public figures to the point where they can no longer interact with each other normally (even in private) and/or they start to see themselves negatively over it. Despite them frequently stating that there isn't anything happening, they're uncomfortable with these rumors being spread and want it to stop, and/or their mental health is being affected, toxic shippers can't seem to understand that not everything they see their favorite celebrities do with each other is not a secret sign that they want to do each other, that they should get together romantically, or that they're "really" more than friends. My comment was to express my frustrations with this and how it seems that they don't realize that they could ship people to be friends instead of lovers. Even if they're just kids, people do this all the time with two friends who happen to be of opposite genders, and it can be incredibly frustrating and potentially harmful to the two of them to constantly have that narrative be made about them (trust me, I grew up with this shit and I still feel weird bringing my friend up in conversation because of this); I can't imagine how amplified this can be when you have hordes of people doing this from every platform out there, treating you as a character instead of an actual person.
lauren's thoughts on how the shipping negatively affected her honestly broke my heart. it's very common among us queer people to internalize the "predator" narrative. i know that changing in locker rooms or having sleepovers, for examples, were very difficult for me when i was young because i was terrified that i would be viewed as the """predatory lesbian""" taking advantage of the situation. i can't imagine how painful it was for her to see a horde of people online microanalyzing all of her interactions with camilla and being like "omg this is so SEXUAL!" when she was just being friendly. this kind of behavior can make us wary of forming close friendships within the same gender. even to this day, i'm more comfortable being friends with guys because i don't have to second-guess my interactions with them. i hope lauren is doing better now.
Honestly 100% agree. Even though i did ship Larry at one point, I was always bothered by how a lot of the “proof” were them just staring at each other sometimes. (Do they not share glances with their friends?) Or things that are just two touchy people being friendly. Hell, some still think they’re in a relationship today even tho they haven’t been seen in the same room in years and have pretty different social circles. Like sure, they’re probably still in contact sometimes like old friends, but anything else sounds incredibly far fetched. All these attempts at being “supportive” are just so self-centered and ignorant, i feel like they don’t realize that they’re treating these people as characters in a play. I grew up having what i thought was my sexuality constantly invalidated by other people who “knew better” and just assumed i was in the closet. By the time i realized I wasn’t straight, it felt horrible because just like Carmen admitted, it felt like I was proving them right about me. Hell, im not even attracted to men all that much yet I felt super uncomfortable whenever I hanged out with guy friends because I knew others saw it as a date and it felt wrong. Straight girls harassed me sometimes to prove that i was a lesbian. All to prove they were right about my sexuality? My point is, I get how these comments and actions can affect people and how they actually encourage the “predatory gay” harmful stereotype. I’m sorry to hear about ur experience and hers. These things are far from “normalizing gay relationships” and more like “normalizing gay people not having same-sex close friends”.
I remember having so many conversations with my friends and siblings to make sure I wasn’t coming off predictor-ish. I was so scared that I made them feel the same way straight men make us feel or the way that homophobic societies make gay people look.
Whenever I made friends with other girls and we got close people would immediately accuse me of dating them. If I went out to eat with them or hang out people would ask them if we were dating. One person stopped being physically affectionate with me after people made a big fuss out of her holding my hand. Locker rooms were terrifying when I came out. I had to make doubly sure I didn't look at anyone so nobody could accuse me of perving which it turns out people talked about me doing behind my back anyway. That's not even touching upon the guilt I felt at being attracted to girls :/
@crustymoonz making her bisexuality proof of anything is literally the point we’re all trying to make. Sure, she is openly out, but Camila has never said she even swings that way. I don’t know about the other things, as I have no idea what you’re referring to, but for the celebrity crush comment: everyone jokes around like that with close friends. It’s hardly romantic when it’s clearly meant as platonic love and admiration. Specially if she said it in an interview where it is encouraged to give compliments to ur colleagues/team
@crustymoonz listen I ship Camren as a friendship but you gotta chill out yeah Camren might have been real at some point but you gotta give Camren a rest at some point same thing with Larry

My main problem is that half the time these straight cis girls shipping mlm ships like Larry or TaeKook are actually homophobic in real life and shit on lesbians
As a queer person what Lauren said literally made me cry. It's hard to feel like you have to distance yourself from a friend because people make you feel like you're some kind of predator. You're just analyzing every interaction between you and that person just to make sure you don't slip and do something to somehow prove someone point. It's even worse that she had millions of people doing this CONSTANTLY and clearly it took a tole on her life and queer journey.
Another example of toxic shipping is literally the entire kpop industry. Kpop artists of the different sex literally can't even look at each other without being shipped.
I got into a heated argument with a Taekook shipper who really believed they were together and literally didn't care when I said its toxic to assume things about their lives when they don't know the two of them. I told them I was fine if they shipped Taekook in a fictional way, but they insisted it was real. There is no reasoning with this type of shippers.
Oh dear god... I remember being harassed by a Taekooker on Twitter just because I thought it was wrong to draw them doing sexual acts to each other. Fun times.
larries are insane tbh. i used to be one, so i think i have a valid say in this. they dig deep into the boys and everyone surrounding them’s personal lives and then pick what they want as “proof” and then invalidate the rest to fit the narrarive of their ship. most of them even go out of their way to somehow manipulate information to make people believe that louis’s son is fake. and anything that goes against the narrative is swept under the rug and forgotten about.
yep that reminds me of Kaylors who ship Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss, they dismiss anything that's clearly about her real boyfriend Joe Alwyn, such as the song London Boy, as tongue-in-cheek satire
lmao like louis tweeting that larry is bullshit was management tweeting from his account, but all the tweets louis and harry wrote about each other in 2011 are solid evidence. whatever fits the narrative.
all shippers say the exact same thing but with different names lmao. i’ve watched those groups over the years and it’s so funny because at some point, all the shippers just start saying the 2 celebs are married with any proof they made up

Imagine if the world blamed you for your partner not marrying their middle school or high school girlfriends boyfriend. Selena and Justin have moved on and the fact that fans think they have a say in it is so disturbing.

I wanna see them happy, why do they have to be sad that their idols found love? And even if they were together, it’s not their place to say or push people out of the closet.
I feel so bad for Eleanor she has to go through so much shit just cuz she's dating someone. The same thing goes for Olivia. the amount of hate she had gotten was so crazy. Larries hate every woman who hang out with Louis or harry

okay, im a Larrie, but i completely disagree with babygating. there's literally no reason to try to prove that Louis' son isn't his. i don't know how or why the babygaters think proving Freddie isn't Louis' is supposed to be Larry proof.
sis they are still posting. they are still posting every single time any video or picture with this poor fucking child is released. like recently ive seen someone arguing that the videos of his son are DEEPFAKES and that the family is overlaying baby Louis photos on the instagram videos of his son I literally... can't make this shit up. it's probably the most baffling thing on the internet for me.
One of the most toxic ships are also the Sherlock/Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. I think the lowest point was, when the then-wife (now ex-wife) of Martin Freeman got actual death threats because she said she felt uncomfortable with it. Because fans kept sending them really graphic fanart of Sherlock and John (drawn to look like Martin and Benedict).
Camren shippers literally ruined their friendship. They weren’t even able to stand next to each other without people making assumptions which ultimately led to them being distant and stop being friends.
It's even worse when these celebrities have kids (Louis and Zayn for example). Imagine being their kid and you grow up finding out how many people actually believe you're not your father's child ☠️
as a lesbian, shipping two real life females together (like the actors who play casey and izzie in atypical, except bridgette is nb), it’s harmful. we already feel like we have to make other females feel comfortable because our presence is predatory. we’re assumed that we’re attracted to every female we see, that we want to “turn” them. to ship two real life females is harmful and ignorant. *i’m using female bc i’m nb
@@sophietsv oh i didn’t know that, it’s actually a multi definition term. but i acknowledge its other meaning:0 nb and enby are used in the exact same way and nb has also been used in the lgbtqia+ community for awhile. although i’m also non-black so it still counts in a way agagaaggagsg
@@sophietsv enby is also seen as a term for non binary ppl who are minors, and even then it can sound predatory due to how similar it sounds to baby. overall nb has multiple meanings so there so need to worry about it meaning one thing. hope that helps!
lauren’s comments on the ship broke my heart ,especially as a queer woman myself. too often are we portrayed as predatory or “like a man” and i have had many of my personal relationships with my female friends strained because i feel like if i’m even a little too affectionate, im a predator. i cant imagine what she was going through having to see all of that and being portrayed into something shes not
same, once a girl i used to be friends with called me boring because i told her i didn’t want to do a certain tiktok idea she had with her, bcuz i felt she’d think i was being predatory if i ever came out as a queer person. i can’t even imagine how much worse it was for lauren to have to go through that constantly :/
this! as a lesbian (who's friends are like 99% female) i've had a huge problem with intimacy since i was a kid because i either didn't want people to think i was gay (before i came out/accepted myself) or because i didn't want people to think i was crossing a boundary because i'm gay (also even before i came out but especially after). i like physical intimacy, but i feel like i can never partake in it for this reason, and have lied basically my entire childhood/teenhood to all my friends by saying i just didn't like physical contact (when in fact, i was longing for it, like, a lot)
Same. It took me so long to come out to my friends for that exact reason since I'm affecionate with my friends and the feeling is awful. Luckily they understand it isn't like that, they love me and don't mind me hugging them like before. It's a relief, but even NOW sometimes I'm still scared my female friends feel uncomfortable with me. Lauren must've felt so bad... it makes me so fucking sad to imagine being her and so fucking pissed and her "fans" that pretend to care for her while they are just fetishizing her and her friend
I feel like u can't even mention toxic ships without bringing up Dan and Phil like I can't imagine how harmful that whole mess was for them especially bc both of them were still purposefully in the closet
First of all: I love your profile picture. Second: I 100% agree with you. Dan even talked about how much this affected him in his Coming Out Video, and some people still don't get the message.
I was actually worried she was going to be talking about them because I don't think I could stomach hearing about that awful ship again. I started watching them around the same time I started using tumblr, and it was during the phan 'heyday'. I feel sick when I think about it, can't even imagine what it was like for them.
in a way the "phan" shippers were being homophobic towards them. they had no idea what their sexualities were but still did the whole ship thing which iirc didn't seem to have helped with them being in the closet
God to this day I’m still ashamed of how I behaved towards them during that time. I am absolutely appalled at my own behavior and intentionally dont talk about it to this day.
big thing on larry: when louis read a question on iHeartRadio from “larry”, he sighed really annoyed and all the comments were so deluded. louis has disproved larry so many times and seems sick of it and the fans are making a joke out of it “he’s so cute sighing about harry” “he’s so funny” “larry this larry that” another issue is if you look up any of louis’s songs on genius, ALL annotations are about larry. it’s completely taken over his career. louis’ music is more than larry regardless of whether it has happened or not.
So true. This may sound stupid but sometimes I believe a lot of people only follow Louis solo career and music to find 'hints' or 'proof' for Larry. Almost every comment I see has something to do with Larry. Very very sad.
@@marly1915 its so upsetting, because i have noticed this too. majority of Louis' fans are larries and are only his fans to find more proof to feed their fetishes, as Louis is the one to bring up larry more than Harry. its absolutely disgusting to see how after almost 12 years of one direction, there are still so many larries out there who believe the boys are still together and are still closeted like seriously-
thing is i'm mostly a harry fan and i'm already annoyed by the amount of larries in the fandom and i may not be a fan of louis but i do feel sorry for him and his normal fans because it must be so much worse in his fanspace
@@anja726 trust me, it is. im not a big fan of louis but i keep up to date, and whats so upsetting is that practically 85%+ of his fanbase are larries. which when you think about it, theyre only fans of louis just for proof of larry because hes not shy to talk about it. its truly upsetting and i feel so bad for louis.
@@chelseaafaith that's simply not true, the lgbt signs at louis shows, etc. are because most of the fans themselves are lgbt, that has zero to do with larry. like yes you'll get the odd sign from some crazy person but the fans bringing flags and other lgbt signs and doing rainbow lights and things like that have more to do with their own sexuality and zero to do with louis and i hate when people confuse the two. same for harry, people bringing flags, signs, doing rainbow lights, harry helping people come out etc has more to do with them (the fan) being lgbt than has to do with that dead ship 😂
This is why its not ok to ship real people. It's creepy and makes them uncomfortable. Real people, even celebrities, have feelings, fictional characters don't have real feelings, they don't care if they ship you or not, they aren't real. But real people do care.
Idk if it fits on shipping but 1D got fetishized by so many grown ass adults back then like that 24yo writing fics about then teenager Harry Styles that got turned into a book and then film series called After. Hearing these people get rewarded for their behavior is so disappointing...
It's so horrible to think that a person is making money off of another human's reputation and sexuality claims, just because a HUGE fanbase catered to the story. It's sad everything is sexual these days
larries literally destroyed their friendship and i will forever be mad about it. they used to be so close and watching them slowly become more and more distant from each other bc of how uncomfortable the obsessive shipping made them just breaks my heart. liam and zayn have both confirmed in separate interviews that larry made louis and harry extremely uncomfortable. Another thing i want to add is that despite harry and louis not talking in years larries will always find a way to say that their music is about each other, it’s almost as if they’re not even actually fans of the music and only care about them solely for the ship. Harry himself said that cherry is a vulnerable song of his and larries are convinced it’s a stunt song. like???? how DISRESPECTFUL, they clearly don’t care about harry as a person unless it pertains to larry. they full on attacked lottie when she said that larry wasn’t real, they really think they know more about louis than his own goddamn sister, like that is his FAMILY.
OMG EXACTLYYY!!! i just wish people would stop with that bullshit. Also the amount of have El and Freddie get from larries is fucking insane. Its so sad knowing that Harry and Louis can never be as close as they were before since people will always look for proof
Another relationship that I recall was ruined by shippers was here on RUclips with Markiplier and Jacksepticeye. And I think it was Jack who spoke out on it
Nah, I think it's ok but not like this, actually believing they had a secret relationship? Shipping should be just hoping, not creating this whole mess
@@EmyN Exactly. It‘s 100% fine to like the idea of two people in the public eye being together or even thinking they might already have something going on, but it‘s so easy to just do it…non-invasively. I think it can just be a part of fandom involving real people and as long as you live out that fandom in a way that doesn‘t invade their lives or even makes them uncomfortable, it‘s fine, especially since shipping people can just mean enjoying watching their platonic relationship while knowing that that‘s all it is. There are even celebrities who like that people are shipping them and enjoy fanart/fanfiction about themselves, but it’s not the standard and all the stuff in this video is just messed up and should never happen.
@@childofgod759 Worse! She got published. She wrote a book where the main character ships what’s very obviously supposed to be Destiel from a very obvious Supernatural substitute. That’s not bad in and of itself, but the main character takes it to the point where she harasses at least one of the actors about it. That’s a big-ass yikes from me.
I felt bad for Kate Winslet for so long. People said that her marriages were always "failing" because she is in love with Dicaprio. And Dicaprio can't seem to keep a girlfriend because he is in love with Kate. Kate has come out and talked about this several this, she said they are only friends, but every time there is some interaction between the two or when they show affection in public, RUclips restarts this whole story about them being secretly in love. 🙄
GOOODDD!!! FINALLY SOMEONE SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. I kinda feel sorry for these people sometimes, that they don't understand the meaning of the word "friendship"
They've said numerous times that they're Platonic life-partners(read: PLATONIC) and people still insist that they're in love. I'll never understand real-life shippers.
the kpop thing especially weirds me out. I'm a kpop stan but it always makes me uncomfortable to see members being made to do things like play the pepero game or other "games" that are just inadvertent ways to get them to pretty much kiss (like that passing a paper from each others mouths thing??? Weird as all hell). It came to a head for me when in one interview the interviewer asked one member to kiss another on the cheek or something, because "the fans wanted to see it". and he flat out said "no, am I supposed to do something just cos other people tell me to?" and that really made me realise how weird the whole thing was lol
I remember this and I loved how Jin turned an weird situation (Tae was feeling awkward because of it) into a funny situation at the end when he kissed the trophy instead.
Im getting concerned that the company didn't do anything about it, i hope they will take legal actions in the future cus this is just plain sexual harassment. But chances are none because skinships is one of the money maker

I hate what happened with Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard. They were children and those weirdos were shipping them to death. It must be so uncomfortable for them. I used to read Camren and Larry fics on Wattpad when I was like 13-14 it was strange
@@veomf6259 I thought they seemed like they were on good terms during season 3 press for ST but if they weren't that's really sad to hear. I can't imagine having literal strangers shipping me with my friend online.
they literally ship finn wolfhard with almost all of his co-star, millie bobby brown, noah schnapp, jack dylan grazer and basically having a war with each other
I was part of the phandom back in the day and shippers where SO invasive. Now both came out as gay, but imagine everyone speculating about your sexuality and trying to expose your "relationship" while not being comfortable with coming out yet. Must have been some kind of hell
Phan is the first thing I thought of when I read the title of the video. That community was fucking awful, full stop. I know it wasn’t the entire fan base, but it was enough people that it just become uncomfortable to hazard a look through any tag relating to their channels.
after hearing what dan went through in his coming out vid, i cant imagine what he was feeling at the height of the shipping around 2012-2016. not only was he still trying to process his past, but he was also trying to deal with his depression and have a clean mental state all at the same time. it really must of been hell for him, as he was also still pretty young at the time.
At this point I feel like the phandom is much more wholesome, but hearing Dan talk about how the shipping affected him and actually pushed him even further into the closet was so sad.
Also can we talk about how the majority of shippers of the mlm ships are heterosexual women? Like supporting gay men is good but fetishizing them needs to stop.
We are not all fetishizing them! To fetish something means to get turned on by it. Someone with a foot fetish will get sexually turned on by seeing or touching feet. We believe that they are, or at least were, in a romantic relationship. We think this based, not on Larry compilations or manips, or gay stereotypes but on things we see in actual 1D interviews, concerts etc. We can’t believe that antis can’t see what we think is right there in front of you
I just want to say also... Women just. Like romance. Especially the forbidden love type. I think it's a stretch to say that all the women who were shipping these ships were fetishizing it. Especially at the time when One direction fans were mostly teenagers and I don't think they realized the harm it caused and that it was a real person who would eventualy get to see it. I do think some were fetishizing it but to say every woman that has ever done was... I think we need to be a little bit more nuanced talking about this issue lmao. Most of them just liked the idea of romance and liked boys band. We need to put the emphasis on the fact that celebrities are real people and not some characters though, I think the way we treat them as a lot to do with it.
That's not true, the majority of shippers especially hardcore are from the lgbtq community, you can notice this because they both harry and Louis have the most concentrated lgbtq fanbases compared to Zayn or Niall for example Zayn for example has the largest fanbase and social media followers on RUclips and Instagram, but isn't heavily lgbtq based
The thing with Kpop is - whereas the rumor of companies engaging their idols to participate in skinship might be true, they also use this marketing to their advantage, ultimately leading to queerbaiting. Queerbaiting is a huge problem in this industry, cause it makes people blind to visibility and actual representation of lgbtq+ idols. They feel oppressed to show their sexuality, cause it is only seen as acceptable when it‘s used for profit, not for actual representation. Adding dating bans on top of that i can only imagine how hard it must be for someone closeted in this type of industry. We‘ve heard so many times from western artists, that they were scared to come out, but imagine kpop idols who are actually part of the community, who have to do all of this skinship with other group members to satisfy shippers - toxic!
Exactly- and that's why I have a tough time trusting what's real or not when I'm seeing friendly idol interactions... I love seeing people vibe with each other and be comfortable with one another! The underlying suspicion that it's all staged and is fabricated for an agenda makes it that much harder for me to connect with an idol's work, which fvcking sucks when you actually really admire the art they put out.
It's not even a rumor, it's an actual thing. Companies (even big ones like SM Entertainment) have even held "contests" for who can make the best fanfic. Most of what people view when it comes to interactions within idols that are gay are most likely fanservice, minus the fact that us Asians and especially Koreans are naturally like this (touchy, flirty etc), but again, that's natural, it has nothing to do with an actual relationship. My favorite past time nowadays is watching "analysis" videos where these shippers analyze the tiniest things and interactions between two idols, then adding captions like "sexual tension" and shit. Hilarious.
Very bummed out when I realized how pretty much everything that is progressive in the kpop industry is performative and not at all accepted (especially the queerbating- like imagine your boss telling you to get more touchy feely with your coworkers to appease customers at any other workplace, gross)
a lot of larries also just have so much internalized (or outright) misogyny that they would rather see louis and harry with each other than within ten feet of a girl
I know right! And not just larries but many directioners as well. They hate to see Harry or Louis with any girl and will brutally cyber bully the girl out of jealousy
I am a Directioner and I really don't care whoever they are dating or have a relationship with. I just listen to them and support their solo careers. I really don't want to obsess over their love lifes because it's just weird... I mean let them do what they want to do with their lives.
I hate VERY few things the way I hate shipping real people. I don't care if these words are extreme, but I find it so evil and delusional. EDIT: This also extends to people who ship two characters in a show or movie, and then bombard the actors who played the characters with nothing but things about the ship. That's an extra level of delusion.
Considering a lot of them overstepped boundaries and refuses to accept that they’re ship is nothing but fantasy, I can’t say I blame you Personally I did the FanFiction (excluding smut because it’s unneeded and I can’t do it) and I make moronic jokes but I stick to legitimately shipping characters.
Remember when Drew and Danny read their fan-fiction together in a video? I have never had such second hand embarrassment before in my life. IT'S SO WEIRD. Same with Rhett and Link. So. Weird.
louis has a girlfriend, eleanor, and larries always say their relationship is fake, not to mention that some believe that freddie isnt louis son, like leave the kid alone
I agree about Freddie, but Eleanor? Please explain Louis putting Harry’s tattoos drawings (that are from larries) as his Spotify songs covers. Louis even blocked an Elounor shipper lol
@@1davocado282 im an anti and im assuming youre a larrie. I have absolutely no problem and I never judge larries for believing what they want to believe. I keep my opinion that harry and louis were never and are not together. you can keep yours. i respect your opinion so you please respect mine.
The worst thing is that they clearly do not care about either Louis or Harry. They pretend to care, but they don't, they just care about their sick fetish. Louis literally said on twitter that Larry was the biggest load of shit he's ever seen and that please understand he's happy and if you check the responses, it's FILLED with Larry shippers literally LAUGHING AT HIM. LAUGHING AT HIS "IDOL" they are supossed to love, when he is BEGGING THEM TO STOP. They are insane and make me so incredibly mad
as someone who was a "larrie" now watching it back it was just so creepy? it makes me feel so ashamed to have been part of that, i'm so disgusted that i was part of the reason that made louis and harry uncomfortable with each other and then end their friendship, honestly i wish i wasn't so blind and i can turn back time. i believe this extreme shipping is almost like a conspiracy theory, and this comes from the fact that some fans want to be their idols saviours, like saving them from their evil management, from the evil people on the industry that doesn't want them to be happy and free, and if you don't notice that they're being controlled and they don't have free will then you're a fool who believes in the lies this evil people say. that's pretty much why i shipped larry when i was around 15-17 because as someone who is bi and in the closet i wanted them to be free and i was very gullible to these conspiracy theory masterposts on tumblr. now looking back, they were just being normal friends, in fact something that angers me now is that we (mostly women) say toxic masculinity is harmful for men but then we see two guys being comfortable with each other and think they're dating? that's very weird. thank god i realized that the true is always there, just listen to your faves and what they say and respect them and their privacy, specially their sexuality if they haven't come out. now that i'm in the bts fandom i can't take shippers seriously, they're not saving this two members from anything and also the fact that there are multiples pairings should tell you enough that is not real? how can the same member be dating two members of the band lol. and another thing, so there are gay couples in every single band? it's very dumb if you think about it. anyway i always hope that shippers realize they're actually hurting their faves and stop doing that. please always respect the people you like because they're REAL PEOPLE with feeling and what you say online can actually affect them.
People will really be like: normalize male friends being affectionate with each other 😡! Also people when two guys stand side by side: omg they are such a cute couple ❤️ when did they start dating?
I think one of the main reasons there are still “larries” (and other longtime toxic shippers) these days is that they’ve already invested so many years in it that it’s become a part of their identity. Some people have woken up every day and checked tumblr/social media/etc. for updates on their ship for *a decade* now. They’ve been fully invested and engaged in it for so long that it’s simply who they are and has informed how they developed in their formative years. So abandoning that ship then becomes less of a “moving on from old interests and passions” thing and more of an identity crisis. And because the people in the ship no longer interact, the discourse surrounding it is forced to get more and more toxic simply to justify its continued existence. I looked into this out of curiosity a few months ago or so and apparently there are now a bunch of former “larries” who now believe that Harry Styles is basically the devil incarnate who broke Louis’ heart for personal gain and left him to be abused and manipulated by their evil management alone. So many different conspiratorial threads like this have to emerge because it would be too painful for hardcore shippers to admit that they were just wrong for so long. The deeper you look into it it’s honestly just terrifying and tragic.
I think on one hand you have these people that, like you said, somehow made this relationship a part of their identity over the course of several years but there are also soo many young people that (especially after the 10 year anniversary) got into the fandom and were influenced by these often grown ass people and simply belive everything they are told. The conspiracy theories have changed always according to the current situation and how fitting something was/is to the current narrative. But the newer people often don't realize that and this somehow creates a seeming invincibility for these people bc they simply can say anything and they truly belive it themselves.
The hate Eleanor got and still getting for dating Louis makes me really sad😐 She even turned off instagram comments and rarely post about her love life
i agree with this although she has made racist comments in the past, people make misogynistic jokes about her and degrade her and she dosent deserve it.
@@danieller6061 louis and harry also either said or did racially disrespectful stuff, but the same people who bully eleanor for one thing she said don't care in l and h's case or are trying to make excuses for them, which just shows that most of what she gets from them is indeed misogynistic in nature
@@arabellas70s yes i know what harry has done and tbh it’s affected my view on him and i’ve tried holding him accountable and deeply hope he has felt sorry and will apoligizw for it. as for louis idk what he has done so if you could maybe send a link or inform me i would be grateful
I'm neutral but tbh larries really arent that annoying unless it the obsessive blue greener ones same with antis like as long as they respect others opinions I don't see a lot wrong with either, and when it comes to Louis and harry if they are in a "secret" relationship or whatever, I'm happy if they aren't I'm happy, bc as long as they are happy I am.
Even when Louis denied being in a relationship with Harry MULTIPLE times, the larries either made it into a joke (the oBviOusLy meme) or just said "management made him say that
@TikTok Butterfly as a larry, i can say we want him to look straight into the camera, no smirks or dumb eyebrows, and say "Larry isnt Real" without rambling.
@@minimockingjay7719 he still said MULTIPLE times that Larry is not real. Even his family and former members of 1D denied it, but y’all still don’t want to believe him. Y’all need help
I used to be a hardcore larry shipper, 2012-2015. I watched all the fan made "larry moments" videos, hated Modest for making them hide, even believed in that crazy rainbow bear conspiracy. Looking back, my impulse rationale is to call it pure delusion. Though, I know it's deeper than that. As a socially anxious teenager, I was looking for a community to be a part of. The general fandom gave me that, but larry gave me something even more intimate. It felt like I belonged to something. Add to that the fact that I was queer, it was a perfect storm. I desperately wanted a queer idol to look up to and more importantly, relate to. It became an obsession. You couldn't present any fact I couldn't discredit (in my eyes anyway). Everyone else was wrong and I was part of an elite community that knew better and would save my idols. I think that's a huge part of it as well, the savior complex that the larry community and similar ships foster. Now, 6 years later, it's clear there were (and are) a lot of interacting variables that make one such a rigid shipper, one that will go to extreme lengths to prove their ship, even at the cost of their idols' mental health. At some point, it stops being about the ship and all about the shipper. THEY are right, THEY know better than everyone, THEY are going to save their idol, THEY ARE THEIR SAVIOR. A superiority + savior complex years in the making is a dangerous thing, even if it only manifests as just words on the internet, because those words are still about real people, directed at real people, impact real people. But by then it's too late, the real people have become caricatures the shipper only uses to propel their own agenda and ego.
yes can relate, i cringe thinking of it now but i can’t blame myself, i was middle schooler with no friends and my parents had a nasty two year divorce… reading this paragraph really blasted me back to the past, i’m glad i’m not the only one ahahah
I think this just goes to show how sad it is that most queer teenagers don‘t have anyone who is queer to look up to that they go such lengths to feel like they belong and like their idol is also queer so they have someone they can relate to… We NEED diverse role models for the vulnerable, impressionable age group that is teenagers
This is why people shouldn’t ship real people. It’s your choice if you want to ship fictional characters (as long as it’s not illegal or toxic) but shipping real people should be avoided
also jelena stans! i don’t even like justin or hailey, but i feel bad for them when i see articles or fans speculating that his new songs are about selena or that his marriage is a hoax, that he still loves selena etc. they are literally married, let it go
What's disturbing me even more is the fact that Selena said she felt she was a victim of emotional abuse & people still ship them. Just why? Plus, they harass Hailey. I don't even like Hailey(Swiftie reasons). But that poor woman gets unnecessary hate.
jelena shippers dont even like justin or selena instead they only romanticise their relationship for the ship and nostalgia, even though both were miserable in that relationship. they keep associating selena to justin, a literal married man, even after she’s said she doesn’t like being linked to her exes. they also keep portraying justin as an abuser on tiktok and social media in general but still want them together?? shit doesn’t add up.
another good example would be tom holland and zendaya. Can we PLEASE normalize close platonic relationships between a man and a woman? They've both been very clear that they're just friends and that shipping them together makes them uncomfortable and ruins their chances at having romantic relationships and its part of the reason why they hardly acknowledge each other on social media anymore, becuase they dont want t*mdaya shippers to start something up again. They both seem like such good friends and i hate that people ship them together
Same with Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez like jeeez have y'all never had a breakup 😐 would y'all like if I shipped you with your ex of like 4 years ago who is also married
Even though it is weird to ship couples who have broken up years ago, at least Zac and Vanessa and Justin and Selena were real couples at one point. There is no proof that Lauren and Carmen or Harry and Louis were ever together.
@@MichelleJ79 but the thing is it's still weird because those celebrities have moved on and it will only made them uncomfortable because they can't focus on what they have now, and the people who shipped them might have been those who can't move on from their breakup, and that's sad because what do you expect? Break ups are normal no matter how hurt it feels.
I’ve noticed that a lot of the people who participate in shipping are young teen girls. I used to be a phan shipper a while back (don’t worry, I wasn’t obsessive about it) and it was like I was living vicariously through them. I think that’s what a lot of people do, especially the ones who are very serious about it. You want to feel like you’re apart of their relationship almost. I was very touch starved and emotionally distant growing up, so it was almost like escapism to watch phan proof videos or to imagine people whom i idolized in a relationship together. This lack of emotional intimacy coupled with the pressure from society towards women to get in a relationship made shipping an easy way to escape for me. I don’t ship them anymore because I’ve realized that shipping real people is super intrusive and a massive no-no and I’ve also become less emotionally distant with the people that I love. I’m speaking completely on my own behalf here so if your experience with shipping has been different, please share if you’re comfortable!
yep exactly, that's definitely why I used to too, these relationships were so pure and offered me a way of escaping watching two people just be people, though it was toxic i totally get why i used to
whoa you literally just summed up my teen years there. it's definitely part of some sort of unhealthy escapism. my inexperience with real-world relationships + my loneliness at that time affected how i interacted with people i idolized.
I think shipping exists because younger audiences who maybe have yet to fully develop their social skills irl wanna project their romance/sexual fantasies onto these people. I imagine most of these people have never been in genuine relationship before which is why they idealize it so much. It's to the point where I can't imagine they even see Louis/Harry and Lauren/Camila as real people but rather just characters in a story they've made in their head.
as someone who shipped larry from age 12-15 i can say that was what happened to me. along with my own like personal struggles with sexuality and whatever
The 1D boys are nearing 30! Like these are grown men, If they wanted to be together they would. Nobody is telling these men who to date at their big age 😩
If I think two people were cute together, I leave it at that. I THINK it. I don’t make fanfics and complications and make them feel uncomfortable. I leave them to be friends.
same here. while i do sometimes read fanfictions of the irl ship that i like i always just read the cute fluffy stuff and nothing else. i just think it's wrong when people write really nsfw stuff that's just ewwww

Kpop companies ABSOLUTELY promote shipping. They subtly sell the idea of their popular ships in official content. Inserting "moments" between members into advertisements, photo units and other official content helps keep shippers engaged and intrigued. Members also partake in fan service on stage and at fan sign events. I think some shippers are aware that they are intentionally being fed this content, while others have strayed far from reality and deluded themselves into thinking its more than it is. tbh Its proven to be a very profitable and highly effective marketing strategy, but unfortunately it has produced some of the most vile and toxic fans I've ever seen.
One example of a straight ship like this I can think of is Tom Holland and Zendaya. They’ve repeatedly talked about how the ship makes them uncomfortable but it’s still brought up a LOT in interviews. If they even like each other’s posts on Instagram, people will use it at “proof” that they are dating. They seemed to have a really dope friendship that people are almost trying to ruin by committing to this ship and I can’t imagine how frustrating and uncomfortable it must be to deal with people constantly intruding like that Update: yes I know they’re official now, but the point still stands. Don’t be weird about ships and don’t assume a relationship exists until it’s confirmed 🧍🏼♀️
And even though they are dating or doing whatever they’re doing now, it doesn’t make the previous shipping right. Shipping real people in general is just disgusting
I agree regardless of whether they were actually dating at the time or not people shouldn’t have tried to “out” their relationship because it’s not there secret to tell.
Even if they are together now, it might happen that two people are just very close and not interested in each other that way. So hoping they will get together is fine, but let’s not be weird about it, because they might genuinely just be friends .
Can we also talk about the Dan and Phil fandom? Like both people have come out as gay but haven’t said they are in a relationship and people still assume they are dating? Like two gay people who interact automatically have to be together? I just think shipping real people is too much, characters yes but people is too weird
As someone who is LGBT+, shipping really appealed to me when I was young because it basically allowed me to create representation in the people I admired. It has definitely crossed lines, but I can see why it exploded back then. There weren't a lot of people who were out even in the 2010's. All that being said, there are a lot of toxic ships, and I hope now at least that reason is not as relevant anymore. Celebrities are people, and they don't deserve to be made to feel uncomfortable or harassed based on random relationship theories
this was really good point, i relate to this so much!! I was never a loud shipper, and mostly shipped fictional characters, but still there where some real people also on my list (and of course i regret doing that even though i was not invasive, and i obviously dont do it anymore)
It is always TPWK unless there is a woman near Louis or Harry, because they aren’t regular humans with emotions and right to privacy . Larries are the most misogynistic, hypocritical and homophobic people I’ve seen.
well said ... so missogynic. Also so homophobic trying to force sexuality on Louis and Harry when Louis has pubicly come out as straight and Harry does not label His sexuality. They literally use their 'ship' To get away with homophobia and misogyny
literally, this makes me believe that the "skinship" rumour is actually true because a lot of bg and gg members started to perform skinship after 2017 when member shipping became extremely popular
Fr, I think the ones that will die believing that their ship is real are crazy. Especially when they go out of the way to terrorize another member of the group. People that friend-ship them don't make me all that mad tbh, like I'd be down to consume content about their friendship in another universe lol.
Let’s not forget someone wrote a smut piece on Zayn and a literal BABY to the point where Zayn couldn’t hang around the child anymore. I personally think shipping pretty much damaged 1D’s relationship as a whole. There’d be videos/pics of the band members being friendly with each other and then the fans would ruin it by shipping them and then they’d stop hanging out together. I feel like if the fans weren’t as toxic as they were, 1D would be a lot closer than they are now
oh yeah i remember zux. unfortunately i read it bc i was curious, and also there's like youtube videos of people reacting to that fic and just being disgusted by it. but i suggest not looking it up for obvious reasons
It's the entitlement that bothers me lmao the fact that they feel they have the right to those celebrities' personal and romantic lives or that they DO know those details. Also the added layer of hostility towards anyone the celebs are dating. Calling them beards is one thing but to actively degrade and mock them nevermind actually harassing them constantly when all they did was be in a relationship with that celeb. If anyone beyond the age of teenhood still engages or supports RPF and real person shipping, to me it just shows the level of maturity they have.
I think people forget that platonic relationships exist too
Yeah, but if for example Louis would be a girl, everybody thinks they are in a relationship.
I just... its not that hard.
i love platonic ships, like damn just let me enjoy this wholesome friendship goddammit😡💕
Honestly- like let people have platonic relationships
Right, my best friend and I always joke about marrying eachother and dying together, hold hands, hug and stuff, but at the end of the day we are still friends, she's still straight and nothing more, people really haven't had a good platonic friendship, and it shows.
that interview lauren made about how it affect her and her relationship with camila honestly breaks my heart. fans really outed her without her consent why the fuck would you do that to someone you supposedly look up to?

funniest thing a larry ever did. was when one of them was like “hey turns out my dorm had mold in it and now that it’s cleared out i don’t believe larry is a thing anymore”
Like the time a kpop fan who shipped two kpop dudes said they don't ship them anymore because they were put on medications 😭
THIS IS SO FUNNYYY
Shipping the actors who play a couple is one of the weirdest and grossest imo. “They have so much chemistry😩♥️” maam its their job
YES it’s fine to ship fictional characters as long as they aren’t related and it isn’t toxic.
Oh you sweet summer child, wait until you get death threats in your private messages because you commented once how you like a fan art of a super popular cowboy character with a bad ass but less popular cowgirl from a shooting game, instead of shipping him with a emo samurai/ninja.

@@glop2118 what do you mean by "isn't toxic"? Personally, I'd say it's fine to ship fictional characters, period.
@@amentrison2794 I’m talking about ships where someone tells another person to kill themselves and abuses them those are toxic
another example of a toxic real life ship is septiplier when both members of the ship were like “hey, if you wanna draw us being bros that’s fine, but please dont draw us having sex with each other” and to put it as sean did, “shipping real people always gets sexual”
I WAS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO TALK ABOUT SEPTIPLIER!!!
pls that was my worst era i used to write fanfiction of them when i was 13 idk what the fuck I was doing
And if they ever said something they know they would face awful backlash, but those are their bodies at the end of the day.
ugh i was in this ship fandom for years and looking back it is literally INSANE how the videos of “evidence” is them looking at each other for two seconds. like what??? i feel like i was starting to cross the line a little when i dismissed their feelings on how the ship made them both uncomfortable. i loved the idea so much that i forgot they were REAL people! i’m glad i got over that ship bc omg- I wrote fan fiction on wattpad when i was like thirteen or fourteen. i had like 400 followers and to me who still doesn’t have followers on anything, was a lot. i reread those sometimes and they are so cringy omfg. anyway, i think it is so much more healthy to ship fictional people instead of actual people for obvious reasons.
hearing lauren say how much the shipping stuff affected her is so sad. i don't understand how some shippers can keep doing this stuff when even their idols have already said how uncomfortable it makes them...
cause they dont really care about those people i have a suspicion that these ships got so popular cause its people looking for representation and are so desperate for it they'll harass real life people to get it
Its a fetish
I'm a "fan" of exactly one kpop ship, and even then I mostly just look at pictures of them together and go "aww, cute". I see it as a completely separate world from the actual idols, like there's character them and real life them and they aren't even the same people. I can't imagine there ever being an overlap, trying to ask the actual people about the ship, or genuinely believing they're together.. and thats just not my business. I also can never read or look at smut of real people its so weird to me 💀. Some of these people are hella loud though..

EXACTLY- like we don’t want to be fetishized, please leave us and our relationships alone

Seriously. The same things happen with fictional characters too, but it's so much more toxic for real people because of obvious reasons. Instead of infantalizing anyone who might be a gay man and sexualizing anyone who might be a gay woman, stop and think about why you think about this character like that. Ik this is already an essay, but I think that the reason "oh but they are SECRETLY gay" is so sensationalized irl because of drama media. a couple theories:
1. some people of the lgbt community ship larry and other real people because they see it as a projection of themselves, being closeted and not being able to come out, they relate to the members.

although i often didn't ship real people too much, I did have one ship I was into for awhile when I was around 13. and it's upsetting when I think about it now; I never wrote any fanfiction or created any fanart of the two, but the content creators knew people were shipping them because the shippers would send their fanart and fanfics to their P.O. boxes to open for videos. i feel like i probably shipped them (and all my other malexmale anime ships) because of my repressed bicuriosity, and also fanfic and fanart being my introduction to sexuality and pornography as a whole. i never understood why i found hidden gay relationships to be exciting/alluring when I was shipping them, which makes me hope that there will be different ways for celebrities to protect their privacy in the future when experiencing stuff like this :/. if their fans can't even understand why what they're doing is wrong, even after it is pointed out to them repeatedly, there should really be some sort of way for celebrities to not have their privacy invaded.

popular opinion: shipping real people that haven't confirmed anything yet it's toxic and damaging for both of them.
As is ignoring the people who you’re shipping when they tell you to stop.
to be honest i don't even think it's a good idea to ship people who are together... like i can't imagine the public pressure you would feel to stay in a relationship that has run its course just because people have grown attached to the two of you as a couple. i think we should just leave people and their relationships be, so long as they are healthy and consensual
a less popular opinion: and if the people confirmed being in a relationship, obsessing over it and being invasive is also a not good thing. it shouldn't be treated like a ship being canon, just being happy for those people and minding your business should be the extend of it, because real people's love lives don't exist to satisfy "shippers" and aren't a fanfic fodder
@@sophie7780 I agree!
👏 its so creepy
Being close to someone doesn't automatically means being attracted to them 😶
@@zara3960 what happened to no toxic masculinity 😭😭 like what !!!
Even if they're just kids, people do this all the time with two friends who happen to be of opposite genders, and it can be incredibly frustrating and potentially harmful to the two of them to constantly have that narrative be made about them (trust me, I grew up with this shit and I still feel weird bringing my friend up in conversation because of this); I can't imagine how amplified this can be when you have hordes of people doing this from every platform out there, treating you as a character instead of an actual person.
thank you for mentioning asexuality, I'm ace and it's always nice when people remember we exist, lol
lauren's thoughts on how the shipping negatively affected her honestly broke my heart. it's very common among us queer people to internalize the "predator" narrative. i know that changing in locker rooms or having sleepovers, for examples, were very difficult for me when i was young because i was terrified that i would be viewed as the """predatory lesbian""" taking advantage of the situation. i can't imagine how painful it was for her to see a horde of people online microanalyzing all of her interactions with camilla and being like "omg this is so SEXUAL!" when she was just being friendly. this kind of behavior can make us wary of forming close friendships within the same gender. even to this day, i'm more comfortable being friends with guys because i don't have to second-guess my interactions with them. i hope lauren is doing better now.
People like to point out toxic masculinity in men and male friendships but as soon as some public guys show affection to each other they end up being shipped like can we just allow guys to have close friendships too without being weird about it
* narrows eyes at Stucky shippers *
Wait what toxic masculinity is in make friendships?
@@awsomedude23456 because guys now constantly have to watch out being too affectionate with their friends because some random girl who is into yaoi will start saying he is gay and make fanfics about it. This is the reason why straight guys cant have close friends and gotta say #no homo but ily

Jungkook and Lisa.... jungkook and taehyung two examples of it
Same sex people cant look at each other either 😅
I got into a heated argument with a Taekook shipper who really believed they were together and literally didn't care when I said its toxic to assume things about their lives when they don't know the two of them. I told them I was fine if they shipped Taekook in a fictional way, but they insisted it was real. There is no reasoning with this type of shippers.
Oh dear god...
I remember being harassed by a Taekooker on Twitter just because I thought it was wrong to draw them doing sexual acts to each other.
Fun times.
oh i feel horrible, i used to ship jikook, but i don't do it anymore
larries are insane tbh. i used to be one, so i think i have a valid say in this. they dig deep into the boys and everyone surrounding them’s personal lives and then pick what they want as “proof” and then invalidate the rest to fit the narrarive of their ship. most of them even go out of their way to somehow manipulate information to make people believe that louis’s son is fake. and anything that goes against the narrative is swept under the rug and forgotten about.
yep that reminds me of Kaylors who ship Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss, they dismiss anything that's clearly about her real boyfriend Joe Alwyn, such as the song London Boy, as tongue-in-cheek satire
congrats on the recovery of your brain cells, good to have you ❤️
lmao like louis tweeting that larry is bullshit was management tweeting from his account, but all the tweets louis and harry wrote about each other in 2011 are solid evidence. whatever fits the narrative.
Same I was a larry shipper when I was 12-13
all shippers say the exact same thing but with different names lmao. i’ve watched those groups over the years and it’s so funny because at some point, all the shippers just start saying the 2 celebs are married with any proof they made up
Omg the Jelena ship is so awful. Justin is married and his wife is still being hated because he married her instead his girlfriend from when he was pretty young. Imagine if the world blamed you for your partner not marrying their middle school or high school girlfriends boyfriend. Selena and Justin have moved on and the fact that fans think they have a say in it is so disturbing.

Wow. That’s especially gross considering Selena has made it clear that the relationship with Bieber was NOT a positive thing in her life.

lauren’s comments on the ship broke my heart ,especially as a queer woman myself. too often are we portrayed as predatory or “like a man” and i have had many of my personal relationships with my female friends strained because i feel like if i’m even a little too affectionate, im a predator. i cant imagine what she was going through having to see all of that and being portrayed into something shes not
same, once a girl i used to be friends with called me boring because i told her i didn’t want to do a certain tiktok idea she had with her, bcuz i felt she’d think i was being predatory if i ever came out as a queer person. i can’t even imagine how much worse it was for lauren to have to go through that constantly :/
this! as a lesbian (who's friends are like 99% female) i've had a huge problem with intimacy since i was a kid because i either didn't want people to think i was gay (before i came out/accepted myself) or because i didn't want people to think i was crossing a boundary because i'm gay (also even before i came out but especially after). i like physical intimacy, but i feel like i can never partake in it for this reason, and have lied basically my entire childhood/teenhood to all my friends by saying i just didn't like physical contact (when in fact, i was longing for it, like, a lot)
Same. It took me so long to come out to my friends for that exact reason since I'm affecionate with my friends and the feeling is awful. Luckily they understand it isn't like that, they love me and don't mind me hugging them like before. It's a relief, but even NOW sometimes I'm still scared my female friends feel uncomfortable with me. they literally ship finn wolfhard with almost all of his co-star, millie bobby brown, noah schnapp, jack dylan grazer and basically having a war with each other
I was part of the phandom back in the day and shippers where SO invasive. Now both came out as gay, but imagine everyone speculating about your sexuality and trying to expose your "relationship" while not being comfortable with coming out yet. Must have been some kind of hell
Thank God it's calmed down.
Phan is the first thing I thought of when I read the title of the video. That community was fucking awful, full stop. I know it wasn’t the entire fan base, but it was enough people that it just become uncomfortable to hazard a look through any tag relating to their channels.
after hearing what dan went through in his coming out vid, i cant imagine what he was feeling at the height of the shipping around 2012-2016. not only was he still trying to process his past, but he was also trying to deal with his depression and have a clean mental state all at the same time. it really must of been hell for him, as he was also still pretty young at the time.
also the fact that he wasnt even out to his family when all this "phan confirmed" shit was going on is sick LMAO
We can’t believe that antis can’t see what we think is right there in front of you
@@threeangels9318 girl.. stop. It’s over, move on
@@threeangels9318 You are mentally ill. Get professional help, I'm not even joking.
That's not true, the majority of shippers especially hardcore are from the lgbtq community, you can notice this because they both harry and Louis have the most concentrated lgbtq fanbases compared to Zayn or Niall for example
Zayn for example has the largest fanbase and social media followers on RUclips and Instagram, but isn't heavily lgbtq based
The thing with Kpop is - whereas the rumor of companies engaging their idols to participate in skinship might be true, they also use this marketing to their advantage, ultimately leading to queerbaiting.

The most surprising thing to me is that Larry shippers are like??? Still around??? In 2021??????on Twitter???
not only on twt they are everywhere
They said last year they was gonna come out well what happened? Most of them have been around that long and still think something is gonna happen
Harry has denied it too
I feel so bad for Louis because a lot of his fans are Larries or former Larries still obsessed with him being gay.
as someone who was a "larrie" now watching it back it was just so creepy? it makes me feel so ashamed to have been part of that, i'm so disgusted that i was part of the reason that made louis and harry uncomfortable with each other and then end their friendship, honestly i wish i wasn't so blind and i can turn back time. i believe this extreme shipping is almost like a conspiracy theory, and this comes from the fact that some fans want to be their idols saviours, like saving them from their evil management, from the evil people on the industry that doesn't want them to be happy and free, and if you don't notice that they're being controlled and they don't have free will then you're a fool who believes in the lies this evil people say. that's pretty much why i shipped larry when i was around 15-17 because as someone who is bi and in the closet i wanted them to be free and i was very gullible to these conspiracy theory masterposts on tumblr. now looking back, they were just being normal friends, in fact something that angers me now is that we (mostly women) say toxic masculinity is harmful for men but then we see two guys being comfortable with each other and think they're dating? that's very weird. thank god i realized that the true is always there, just listen to your faves and what they say and respect them and their privacy, specially their sexuality if they haven't come out. now that i'm in the bts fandom i can't take shippers seriously, they're not saving this two members from anything and also the fact that there are multiples pairings should tell you enough that is not real? how can the same member be dating two members of the band lol. and another thing, so there are gay couples in every single band? it's very dumb if you think about it.
anyway i always hope that shippers realize they're actually hurting their faves and stop doing that. please always respect the people you like because they're REAL PEOPLE with feeling and what you say online can actually affect them.
People will really be like: normalize male friends being affectionate with each other 😡!
Also people when two guys stand side by side: omg they are such a cute couple ❤️ when did they start dating?

Exactly even with Harry there are those who say he dated Zayn so there were zarries and larries. Poor Harry has dated every boy on this planet
If people worried over themselves and their relationships HALF as much as they worry about "celebrities," they'd be much better off.
Brave of you to assume any of these people were ever in a relationship. If they were, they would not have such unhealthy views on romance.
Bet they are the same people that hate when their older relatives asks how their relationships are going :I
I think one of the main reasons there are still “larries” (and other longtime toxic shippers) these days is that they’ve already invested so many years in it that it’s become a part of their identity.
What the fawk😃
honestly i worry for the day that louis and harry marry other people bc that is going to be crazy
Omg wth some ppl need help like that's just on another level and I never knew people thought Louis's son isn't his or realnlike chile what😃🖐🏾
It's actually legitimately terrifying

Totally agree but I'm bi. I was trying to escape and I used Larry to do that. I feel bad and yes, I HATED Modest 😂
Your story is similar to most Larry shippers tbh

I’m speaking completely on my own behalf here so if your experience with shipping has been different, please share if you’re comfortable!
wow you hit the nail on the head, this is *exactly* why i used to ship people.

True. And some idols are okay with the fanservice but others are clearly not.
Yes I definitely feel its an intentional PR thing.
They seemed to have a really dope friendship that people are almost trying to ruin by committing to this ship and I can’t imagine how frustrating and uncomfortable it must be to deal with people constantly intruding like that
Update: yes I know they’re official now, but the point still stands. Don’t be weird about ships and don’t assume a relationship exists until it’s confirmed 🧍🏼♀️
And even though they are dating or doing whatever they’re doing now, it doesn’t make the previous shipping right. Shipping real people in general is just disgusting
Hello, it is September 2021, Tom and Zendaya are dating now
@@benadrylcucumbersnatch9401 i was literally thinking the same thing when reading that comment.
I hate when the internet assumes that all gay people are dating because this is so hurtful
