For those wondering. I have the R400 and wish i'd gone with the q300 lol. Sounds awesome but there is drone. I do have a catted downpipe as well though.
MY 2021 STi with Q300 sounds almost exactly like stock. MY car is completely stock other than the Q300. I notice you have some other mods done to your car as well because you can hear your turbo spool which you can't hear on stock set up.
I installed an R400 a couple of months ago and I’m realizing that the drone of this exhaust is just too much for me… I drive my STi as a daily, will the Q300 be significantly better in terms of drone?
Would you say this is one of the most "quiet" aftermarket exhaust? I am 34 with a new born and looking for a little more growl, but nothing too intense. I read online this is a great one for DD, but hits hard on WOT.
Chris Haynes that’s almost exactly what I would say it’s like. I’m also in my mid 30’s and use this car as a daily with a commute. Didn’t want all the loud rice sound. Just something to let it breathe better and give it a slightly better sound than stock. If that is what you are looking for, I would highly recommend this exhaust. Cheers
How about smog testing? I heard you automatically fail visual test but sniff test you could pass, depending on the inspector. Do you have to swap everything back to stock even the intakes?
Love the sound, thanks for sharing! i’m looking at getting a 2016-2017 STI next year and wanted an exhaust that was an improvement over the stock one but not overly loud or obnoxious and this seems like a good fit. Do you know how adding a catted downpipe to a set up like this may affect the overall sound+performance?
@@huehuehue-x3c Lmao, no. You don't need a pro-tune for a catback exhaust. It does a little bit of performance, usually about 10-20 horsepower for catbacks on STIs.
@@ilysmwyhm he literally said "adding a catted downpipe" which is part of the turboback exhaust, not catback. I owned and sold one of these slow pieces of shit, I'm not just talking out of my ass.
@@senditpictures3436 Ty for the reply. Wow that is amazing, I do have the same cbe but your bpv sounds louder than mine, I wonder why is that. I have a MY20 btw. I assume in this video, you also have stock intake?
Generally speaking NO you are not. However it is best if you make sure with your contract before installing any aftermarket parts to be sure. Thank you for watching.
From what I understand you have to adhere to what ever state your car is registered in. So as long as what ever state your cars laws are as far as exhaust goes it will be fine in California.
IIRC you have 7 or 10 days to register it here in CA if you move here. If visiting - just tell the cop you are visiting. Out of state laws don't apply. Show him/her your out of state DL and you're good to go.
I used the stock hangars and just kept adjusting the tightness throughout the piping until I got it to a fit i was satisfied with. Thank you for watching.
@@senditpictures3436 i know, i did. but the revs to 5k broke 95db. i thought you had to rev too 20% less of peak power so 4400, and even then it would surpass 95db. I want this exhaust but i need to make sure it passes the db test so i can get a certificate
No it doesn't your revs always have a higher decibel spike vs sustained. Notice how the 2500 rev was like 7 db higher than sustained 2500. The state reff tests the sti at 4200 rpm. They have you sustain it for 10 seconds. I am betting even though the rev to 5k hit 101 sustained 5k is actually 93-94db.
Wow that Invidia sounds like a beast!!! Nice!
Seriously awesome video thank you for taking time out to show the levels!
So glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the support.

how loud is it
YT has plenty of vids. I preffer Q300, sounds gr8 and not obnoxiously loud. Barely any drone, but who cares, it's all about sound and performance.
@@Haylem I wouldn't say its crazy loud, just drones too much.
You not feel the drone in car very bad?
Thankyou, going for a Q300 but turbo back. Be interesting to see the differences

Hey thanks for the video! How did you get the tips to fit perfectly on the opening?
2019 Sti is supposed to have a new high flow exhaust..for the install did you need GrimmSpeed Subaru Stock DP to Aftermarket 3 in. Catback Adapter?
plynexalize hey thanks for watching. Yes I did use the Grimmspeed adapter for the installation.
Thanks man great vid👍

Awesome, thanks!
Next Tuesday I will find out how it sounds on my 2019 WRX cant wait
Ik I’m late to this vid but do you have a stock J-pipe with this Q300 catback? I love this sound. I hope it doesn’t pop too much when out and about?
How about smog testing? I heard you automatically fail visual test but sniff test you could pass, depending on the inspector. Do you have to swap everything back to stock even the intakes?
Depends. Some might look away, some may say it's a no no.
Catback exhausts should not effect smog tests whatsoever. Only noise

adds performance and makes it much louder. you'll also need to get a pro tune for it or you'll blow up the engine.

Stop being a rude piece of slow thinking shit. Gtfo of interwebs, you'll do a favor for the rest of us.
Will need either an etune or protune if you get the DP. Also, Cobb access port.
Where in cali are you? I have a 2020 STi and I haven’t heard any other aftermarket exhaust in person to tell the differences
I’m in San Diego. I have one on my STI with equal headers.
Really nice video man! Do you still have the stock bpv on this? thank you!
Thank you so much for the feedback. It really means a lot. Yes I still (for now) have the stock bpv

does anyone know if this exhaust (Q300) is a full 3'' pipe diameter all the way to the mufflers? and doesnt tapper down to 2.5"?
I heard that the titanium tips start rattling after a while has this happened to you?
About 18K miles with this exhaust now. No issues what so ever.
thats fuckin cap LOL
That exhaust sits so flush. I’ve messed and messed with mine and it still looks off
Buy some those aftermarket hangers that are meant to sit flush and see if it looks better
@@santostuner where can I find them?
is there any drone?
Hello, if I put this on my stock sti, am i voiding the 3 year warranty? Thanks
Generally speaking NO you are not. However it is best if you make sure with your contract before installing any aftermarket parts to be sure. Thank you for watching.
Catbacks or axle backs do not void warranty.
FWIW, my Subaru salesman specifically told me exhaust upgrades will not void the powertrain warranty
@@nthgth Thanks alot
What rear 4th brake light is that?
What of you dont live in California and dont have your car registered in california but go often to California does that effect us aswell

So this is legal in California
Thanks for the detailed video.... after installing the Q300 did you get any cops attention? It does sound pretty goood....
I have unfortunately been pulled over several times. Not once has it been or even mentioned about the exhaust.
Just cruise by. Upshift and drive like a granmy
Also, let it warm up and the sound goes lower.
How do you have your mufflers perfectly tucked up like that mine is still droopy after tightening the hangars up with hose clamps lol
You need smaller and tighter fitting after market hangers
I used the stock hangars and just kept adjusting the tightness throughout the piping until I got it to a fit i was satisfied with. Thank you for watching.
This is known to be a more quieter exhaust for these cars, and if this one breaks 95 db then wtf are we supposed to be on?
If you watch towards the end of the video, the exhaust is measured by a decibel reader
@@senditpictures3436 i know, i did. but the revs to 5k broke 95db. i thought you had to rev too 20% less of peak power so 4400, and even then it would surpass 95db. I want this exhaust but i need to make sure it passes the db test so i can get a certificate
Refs don't go over 3k rpm.
State ref/law is at 2500 rp. This only breaks 95db at twice the rpm (5000)
Are you using stock exhaust hanger?
Yes stock hangers
Any problems with cops in California so far?
Had it for 2 years with no issues. Even if they did this exhaust is right at the limit.
Do you need to tune after this? & do you need a new downpipe ? Thank you
Cat back doesn't need a tune it just changes sound.
are those stock hangers?
Captain yes they are
So is the exhaust illegal then ?
Gray lines my friend
What blow off r u using??
Guess that's a high flow air intake
I imagine invidia will sell a lot of these thanks to the new California laws.
There’s a guy sellin me a q300 for 500? Good price or
In general as long as the condition is good, I pay about half of what retail is when the product is used.
Did it give you a check engine light?
No it did not throw a check engine light. I have heard of this happening in rare cases. Might want to check and make sure it is sealed properly.
Damn it went over 95 decibels….it means illegal in California smh 😭 lol

He missed a perfect opportunity to put “skyesti” on license plate:(
Carried it over from my WRX. Couldn’t part with it lol
How heavy is the q300 compared to stock sti exhaust?
