I genuinely appreciate that even though your own exhaust system is in this video you don't try and make it out shine any of the other exhausts and give them all the same fair review and I respect that so much.
Something to note for ANYONE looking to add an exhaust to your STi: It may sound perfect for you as a catback system but as soon as you add an aftermarket downpipe, everything is instantly turned up significantly. Noise, Harshness, and Vibration all gets amplified. Your exhaust may not drone with the stock downpipe, but it might with an aftermarket one.
Totally agree, I had no resonator and muffler deletes and sounded amazing. Once I added the invidia downpipe it still sounded great but it was already screaming at 3k rpms and hard to tolerate on the highway. Beautiful turbo noise but shittttt.
Personally, I'd have to go with the single exit exhaust. It sounded the most fierce out of all of them. It's ridiculously light. And something about the single exit just reminds me of the old blob eye. But all sounded amazing.
The best of these exhaust shown in my opinion is the Tomei because of the low cost, and titanium quality. Little too loud and I don’t care for single exit on STI. I just installed the COBB Titanium cat-back exhaust and it sounds amazing (really brings out that subi rumble) only 24 lbs i believe and the 4 tips are beautiful. I highly recommend this exhaust!
@@immiinent I didn't find out, I just went with a stainless steel pipe and it sounds fine, a little quiet but I think it'll sound nicer once I do a new downpipe. I went with the Invidia R400 in case you were curious
I love this content! I wanted something incredibly quiet for my sti to hide 500+ hp so I went with HKS Super Turbo (quad tip). Pros- silky quiet (jasma), no drone because of the dual resonator setup, resonated tips proven to lower 2dB, awesome tone. Cons-highly expensive, barely louder than stock (exactly what I wanted), downpipe to midpipe flange tapered to stock size, and not the hugest gains.
I'm a bit disappointed that the title says WRX / STI however the two cars are extremely different and you featured four STIs and one WRX. Would have been nice to have been able to hear the WRX versions for all of the exhausts.
Choosing tomei over anything is the right way to go… it’s unique of course but the most important statement is that it stays true to tradition with the single exit echoing the older WRX/STI’s
I went with a choice not listed. The remark stealth edition and I love it! Matte black to be a little different and great high rev sound while not being too loud on the low revs to upset the neighbor with a 7am cold start. Under $300 for the axel back and another $300 for the y pipe.
I would like to say that I really like the sound of the MAP exhaust it’s crisp and not an aggressive D - bag exhaust. I like the tone because at the mid and top points that it gives it’s not to much so you can daily drive it I have a 2018 forester xt that I would love to get a MAP exhaust for also thanks for sharing a great video
You video came across my RUclips feed. I have to say I can appreciate you reviews on all the exhausts including your companies. I’ll be going with the Nameless exhaust on my 2014 Wrx hatchback. You got a new subscriber keep up the great videos!
I've had a lot of success with a muffler shop built exhaust on my 93 FD3, 2013 FoST(side exit straight pipe), 2015 STI, 2001 Ej222 with stainless singleport header. All of my builds used Vibrant Ultra Quiet II 3" in and out. All of my exhausts were 400SS and I spent less than $900 for all of them combined.
I’m stuck between the R400 and Nameless 4” or 5” mufflers. R400 sounds a bit muffled to me. I like both Nameless mufflers, but worried the 5” will be to quiet, or that the 4” will be to loud. Any opinions out there??
I think, if you are open to other brands maybe, the COBB Turboback exhaust (fucking rip-off though), specifically, with the non-resonated J-Pipe (downpipe), as they have both resonated/non-resonated options, you'd be very well off. Problem is, COBB charging your an arm and a leg for it all.
Invidia R400 and MAP catted J-pipe is where it's at for me. With the stock J-pipe it still sounds great, but sounds hollow when revving out. With the aftermarket *catted* J-pipe it's so smooth and sounds amazing all through the rpm range. I mention catted because it's currently on the verge of too loud and without a cat it might be too loud for me. Especially those cold starts in the morning. Honestly, I almost went for the MAP Cat back, but I love the way the Invidia looks from behind with the logo/brace thing. I wish the video had an example of WRX and STi for each exhaust. I'm sure that might be a little hard to do, but the two cars are completely different animals with two completely different sounds. EL vs UEL headers makes a huge difference. Enjoyed the video regardless! Now I'm just waiting for a Top 5 Intakes vid to come out : ]
I'm running a Grimmspeed catted j-pipe which also replaces the intermediate pipe and a nameless axle back. If you want stupid loud, lots of pops and real highway drone this is the way to go...lol. I'll also throw in that my tuner was surprised my WRX made as much power on the dyno as it did.
Loking for exhaust right now. I want the Ark Grip but its very pricy. Out of the 5 you listed i think i still like the Maperformance the best although i would have liked to have heard the Cobb on the road and not just a dyno pull. Also i just want to say thatnive talked to your tech support, and even though i haven't bought anything from you yet they were very friendly and helpful. Keep it up.
I wish you guys would have done an in cabin sound for every exhaust. I got the MAPerformance (and maperformance downpipe) and it is louder than the video made it seem. Kinda wish I had gone with the Invidia R400. I still appreciate the content.
Black ceramic Grimmspeed down-pipe with ETS muffled exhaust. Subtle when idle, pops from time to time when down shifting, and gets a bit throaty when punching it. Perfect for me as my daily, and good enough for my wife, so it's a win win here. haha
Just purchased the MAPerformance J pipe, intake and access port through MAPerformance, looking to pair this up with the Ark DT-S exhaust, can't wait for spring!
MAP's tunes are solid if you choose to run them vs getting Pro tuned. I've run their Stage 1 91, Stage 2 91 and Stage 2 e30 (current) tunes. Each one having noticeable improvements over the last on the butt dyno (only dyno that matters to me) and drive-ability over stock. Since you have the MAP J-pipe and Intake I'd say at least try one before a pro tune to have something to compare against. P.S. The MAP intake is very whooshy and sometimes louder than the R400 in the cabin. It's absolutely amazing if you don't mind the extra noise.
@@tomhanrahan8115 thanks for the heads up, I may run the stage 2 in the meantime. I dont mind the intake noises as long as I dont get a drone. I have 93 octane by me so maybe a slight improvement. Also plan on running e-50 maybe by summer. That Ark exhaust is $2K though! So I'll take it easy on the mods for a few months lol.
I'm running the ETS and although it is a little droney, I love it. It sounds really aggresive and I'm hoping once I change out my DP i could get rid of some of that drone.
The Tomei is attractive, but definitely needs to be quieter. I couldn't run at Lime Rock with it unless it's an unmuffled day. Extreme Turbo Systems was the ticket at just under the track limit. I have a tremendous amount of drone at 2700 RPM but I also don't have a resonator. Muffled is only just quiet enough for daily. Also of all the exhausts, it has the best turbo idle, which is important for the equal length header crowd.
Currently running an Invidia Q300 w/ ti tips. It looks great and I had a Tomei before which sounded great but attracted too much attention. I’m actually interested in the MAP exhaust to see if it could be a good middle ground between the two.
I know you guys said this was a wrx and sti clip but all of the sound clips were from a STI which as we all know still users the EJ platform and the newer wrx uses a VA platform. Biggest difference would be the EJ unequal length headers and the VA equal length headers. In my opinion they sound totally different. Don’t get me wrong this was a great video however, I think it would have been beneficial to have each exhaust on each platform and the sound clip for each.
My tuner shop design and make their own exhaust systems and engines. So I have a Lachute performance downpipe with catalyst and their cat back exhaust which gives it a nice refined sound with their ecutek stage 2 pro tune.
The ETS sounds like my nameless muffler delete from cold start to pops. Not gonna lie the drone is super loud. I've been eyeing the MA Performance and the AWE catbacks personally
So far I'm personally torn between the MAP and the Cobb. They both sound wonderful. I guess I'm curious which delivers the best power boost. The cobb helps open up the mId range. How does the MAP compare?
you’re not gonna get a good exhaust for anything less than 900+ what do you expect? lol if you don’t want to pay for what you get, just delete the muffler or resonator...
I am new to this but I definitely want to add the tomei exhaust to my WRX and was wondering where I would go to get that done professionally? I don’t trust myself doing all the work so would I just go to a local shop?
Any local performance shop should be able to tackle it with ease! Maybe join a local FB car group and see if they have any recommendations that are in your area!
After watching the video I was so set on the invidia r400 because I was looking for that rumble on my 2019 wrx premium. I should’ve dig deeper after this video before pulling the video that I need uelh to achieve that rumble on newer fa20 engines and just took this video solely into consideration. Maybe you should update video with different sound clips for it and explain a little better that to achieve the rumble you need new headers. Just a thought before misleading someone else like I was
These subarus are one of the few 4 bangers I actually like the sound of. I'm an incredibly biased big engine fan as far as sound goes (and usually performance).
Here I am doing none of the above, just took mine to one of our local exhaust shops and had a custom 2.5" mild steel axel back done for $400 (most of that cost was the staggered black chrome tips.) I will get the midpipe done shortly for around $180AUD.
I just went with a tsudo catless dp and did a muffler delete at my local shop with some pickup truck tips that somehow fit perfectly and sounds like nothing else out there. Also aem cold air intake for some of that extra turbo sound
R400 for sure!!! With resonator delete. Couldn’t stand the tone of the drone. Sounds like a stock like drone. Resonated delete definitely hear the turbo whistling on cold starts and accel. Can’t beat this one
I have the possibility to buy a 2018 wrx that have a down pipe and a muffler delete with cobb custom tune. I don't like the sound of it and it's really lound. I'm thinking of replacing the muffler to the factory muffler for a while. If I put one of these exhaust system on it, do I have to chance the cobb tune?
I have the Turbo-back Cobb SS exhaust on my 2016 wrx. I cut off the Cobb mufflers to put on some magnaflows (personal preference). Rumble is great, most people have preferred the wrx rumble over muscle car rumble if that says anything. Little to no drone
Tomei sounds the best hands down with the single exit it's a very straight exhaust and has a super smooth tone. Also the titanium gives the tone a more deep and echo like tone to the engine and sounds incredible if your considering it go for it!
I went with tomei for my 19 STI. A coworker has the invidia and you can barely hear it. The best part about the EJ is the sound and I made sure I could hear it. it's crazy light which is always a plus and I like that you can use the silencer to tone it down.
Are these cars stock? I have a stock 2016 WRX Premium. I'm new to the car upgrade scene so I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing lol I just want it overall louder
Vid quality was great but what we all need is one person to make the same clip in the same spot with the same equipment. Then give us timestamps so we can compare it to stock. No matter what, you won't hear in a vid what you hear in real life. People typically have stock to compare to & could judge the difference based off the comparison to stock.
Mines running a GTX3582R, Perrin rotated kit w/ modified external dump, HKS UEL Headers, Invidia Catless Down, and currently Invidia N1 Street. Its pretty loud but not a satisfying sound note to listen too, but I was thinking that Tomei TI would be perfect. Curious how loud/aggressive the @MAPerformance pipes would get with this setup.

I just went with a tsudo catless dp and did a muffler delete at my local shop with some pickup truck tips that somehow fit perfectly and sounds like nothing else out there. Also aem cold air intake for some of that extra turbo sound
I like the way he did not take his brand to the top
R400 for sure!!! With resonator delete. Couldn’t stand the tone of the drone. Sounds like a stock like drone. Resonated delete definitely hear the turbo whistling on cold starts and accel. Can’t beat this one
I already have the Cobb exhaust and i like it in my opinion. But I would like the invidia exhaust bc I want a bit of loud sound and rumble
I think the biggest factor is the downpipe. I put a catted downpipe to an r400 on my fa and it is loud and sounds incredible
What one makes it sound like a 2 stroke??
Are you running a stock DP?
@@jeffreyaviles1520 yes I am running a stock downpipe but I'm getting a high flow catted one soon
I have the cat less tomei down pipe with the tomei exhaust it’s extremely deep. Also very loud. Love it
I got the Invidia r400 gemini titanium exhaust which has a different sound and half the weight
The second one, the white one with your exhaust..what wheels ya got on that?
I'm about to order the COBB cat-back exhaust
Heck yeah!
COBB is gold. Go TBE over cat
Had a Nameless on my '14 WRX, and now I have a Nameless on my '18 STi
Sabotage4321 I have full nameless and I am amazed it is not on this list lol
Was the MAP exhaust in the video on a tuned STI? I love that sound but I don't want to tune my car yet.
Probably the Invidia for me.
COBB is the one for me. My concern it is heavy system not too much the 1300 price tag on it.
does anyone know if adding an exhaust ruins the 7 yr warranty? or how it works exactly? would help me a lot thanks in advance !
A catback does not need a tune so answer is a no but turboback is a different story need a tune so answer would be a yes.
Invidia and Cobb sound the best. They’re also the most 😂 apart from ets
