Played it in german. Damn, it is sooo creepy. And they went for the extra mile and translated everything in the game. Even textures like signs on the wall. Amazing!
System Shock 2 came out years before dynamic lighting was a thing. A lot of your complaints in the lighting department simply were not possible at that time. Doom 3 introduced dynamic shadows 5 years later and required a monster of a PC to actually run.
@@Treblaine If you mean Thief 1 it didnt even have colored lighting until Dark Engine 2. Forget dynamic shadows. Most of those games from the era accomplished darkness with clever texture work as shadows and lighting were very limited.
been sitting on watching this video since i really treasure everything that covers these games in detail! your editing and humour were great throughout and i love your analysis of it all :] did not expect the actual pyrocynical jumpscare re: co-op (also. what music did you use at 20:44?)
Thanks for the video! You managed to keep it interesting throughout, even though I sometimes felt like an old fart that didn't get some references. I think many of the minor criticisms boil down to: "The game had to fit on a CD-ROM" (640MB).
Holy crap i just realized this video only has around 200 views, this is a crime. The amount of editing and comedy in this is awesome you deserve way more my man.
I played SS2 in 1999 and it was a shock. Scary af. Deep, engaging, profound. Bioshock games are watered down compared to the original series. I got bored with Bioshocks pretty quick. Meantime, in SS2, I was shitting my pants every few minutes, also pondering how I could handle a different path on future runs.
The algorithm summoned this after my rabbit hole of G-man lore (childhood games am i right) ps: wtf youtube, you should've been in my feed ages ago. Great stuff!😂
The Crowbar in Half-Life also make a bit of story telling. t strikes so quickly, so haphazardly, because Gordon is probably freaking out having to defend himself with a Crowbar.
I was the first person in the world to review System Shock 2, for PC Zone magazine. As it was the cover game, the editor asked me for a line of text describing it. I thought for about ten seconds and gave him: "A masterpiece unveiled." It was a masterpiece. It wasn't perfect, but it was great in all the right ways. In particular the atmosphere, and the feeling that you were rarely - if ever - safe. One thing that always bothered me, though - and I don't remember if I brought it up in my review or not - is that the psionic monkeys had ape sound effects (they sound like slightly sped-up chimps, but look like monkeys), and apes and monkeys are different (and that matters). I can't remember, but do the monkeys in System Shock 2 have tails? If they do, then they're monkeys. If they don't, then they're apes. But the ape sound effects I found to be highly unnerving. You could hear one of these deadly simians well before you saw them, and that was scary. PS. Deus Ex is pronounced "Day-uSS Ecks", not "deuce ex".
I'm meanwhile the weird type that was introduced to System Shock 2 through a Screwattack top 10 video and a Let's Play. I've never played Bioshock even to this day. My video game habits are strange.
System shock 2 enemy design, i feel is still unmatched to this day, of all the games that have come since, featuring the "once human corrupted crew" they all feel bland and samey by comparison, i'm looking at you Dead Space and Prey, great games, but boring (visual) enemy design also SS2 coop, i played a few times with a friend, he'd frequently be turned into a crate during level transition, i crate i could loot :D also also the lack of SS3 is truly a crying shame, tho after the state of the pseudo ultima sequel, maybe it's for the best
cyber modules are not money neither are nanites, its like star trek, there is no inflation better replication technology is used in med sci for experiments, cheaper in engineering and in recreations people keep making expensive stuff so the cost is higher especially since they were frozen for a long time to ravel far away in space, its not like they can order more resources from amazon. Then you got the hacked reality theme that shodan is doing so there is that. Cyber module price to upgrade has to go up since each one is more complex wiring in your cybernetics.
The protagonist of SS2 silent? I am NAH sure. He just spends the whole game thinking of right words to say to Shodan during the final encounter (and boy, he makes a perfect choice)
yeah, when me and my friends played system shock 2, we had to download logmein hamachi and host a server. that works pretty well for anyone wanting to play multiplayer. the tabbing out is still an issue though LUL
bioshock infinite combat sucks because its a numbers game, early enemies die with 2-3 hits and in the later areas you headshot them 10 times and numbers pop out of their heads, system shock 2 weapon animations might be extremely primitive but that was never the focus of the game, they werent trying to make a shooter...oh and of course enemies are not giant bulletsponges and if they get to that point, you can always use the right ammo, meanwhile in infinite, bulletsponge galore.
I love how you *immediately* tried to turn the quantum reconstruction device into a jab at capitalism; If someone invents immortally they don't have to share it. They're not "purging" you by no sharing their tech with you for free.
bro dogged on the graphics of a game that looks absolutely incredible for something that came out a year before the Playstation 2 did 💀 But I instantly put aside how I felt about this because 3:27 absolutely sent me
speaking of 451, yeah guardians of the galaxy the game has it in the beginning. Because at least one of these people might have worked on a deus ex...game sucks though.
>Title calls it a masterpiece >Proceeds to passive-aggressively shit all over it like a zoomer Ramsker, are you actually kidding me? Also, will you pick an accent and stick with it?

Played it in german. Damn, it is sooo creepy.
And they went for the extra mile and translated everything in the game. Even textures like signs on the wall. Amazing!
sorry wife i can’t eat at the dinner table ramsker uploaded
"Honey, dinner's ready! Come on down to the table!"
"Nah."
System Shock 2 came out years before dynamic lighting was a thing. A lot of your complaints in the lighting department simply were not possible at that time. Doom 3 introduced dynamic shadows 5 years later and required a monster of a PC to actually run.
Thief seemed to handle darkness pretty well. And I used the same engine!
@@Treblaine If you mean Thief 1 it didnt even have colored lighting until Dark Engine 2. Forget dynamic shadows. Most of those games from the era accomplished darkness with clever texture work as shadows and lighting were very limited.
Thanks for scratching that game analysis, comedic, "Pyrocynical" itch 🤗
To find such a video at such length, on that game, is priceless and you'll forever be thanked for it! Love your humour
I can't believe you're back.
Still the most underrated RUclipsr
God damn, you held me onto a RUclips video for almost 2 hours. Great job!
This deserves so many more views, man. Video's beautiful and you obviously have put a ton of time and effort into it.
Yo, yo ,yo... PLEASE tell me you plan to play System Shock remake? If you don't, I understand

System Shock 2: Electric Boogaloo
What an amazing video. Criminally under known, you deserve 100x thede views.

“Still” a masterpiece? A masterpiece doesn’t stop being one because of the passage of time.

I legitimately shot my coffee out of my nose all over my phone. I was *NOT* fucking prepared for that jump cut 😅😂
Thanks for the video! You managed to keep it interesting throughout, even though I sometimes felt like an old fart that didn't get some references.
I think many of the minor criticisms boil down to: "The game had to fit on a CD-ROM" (640MB).
Great scripting and pacing of the jokes. I loved your deep dive into the nurse's backstory
A fantastic and well rounded take on the game and the world around it.
That video of the buff guy dancing around SystemShock2 was absolutely delightful for some reason.
I keep rewatching this, and everytime I check back the views are still in the thousands? This should very much be in the millions.
Just played twice back to back, that's a short list indeed, MWAH!!
Munch's Oddysee music. Man I thought it was Exoddus for sure, but my mind got it mixed up...
Fuzzle Testing goes well with System Shock talk :D
Holy crap i just realized this video only has around 200 views, this is a crime. The amount of editing and comedy in this is awesome you deserve way more my man.

Can't focus too busy jamming to Munch's Oddysee: Munch 4 - Pattern #6 😎😎
is it weird I could see the Cyborg Midwife and Revenant from Doom being a power couple?
The Crowbar in Half-Life also make a bit of story telling. t strikes so quickly, so haphazardly, because Gordon is probably freaking out having to defend himself with a Crowbar.
10 minute Pyrocynical video: I sleep
2 Hour Ramsker video: REAL SHIT!?

Thank you for the upload pyro
The Death Grips reference took me off guard lmao

When the remaster is out hopefully it'll be all refined
I really like what you do, but to be honest, I’d be surprised if you make another vid after this.

Imma say it, Bioshock's combat is pretty good. That's it though.
1:05:18 i think you overestimate how strong the recoil is in a launcher
Funny alien story
Feels like an ADHD victim's review of SS2
Unrelated but who made your profile pic? Genuinely one of the coolest designs I've ever seen.
I think that reviving nanit coast is in higer diffculty right?

1:54:26 that's a cool riff.
I love how you *immediately* tried to turn the quantum reconstruction device into a jab at capitalism; If someone invents immortally they don't have to share it. They're not "purging" you by no sharing their tech with you for free.
