    Picked up our LRMY last week and drove it 145 miles home. That gave me a chance to start using Auto pilot. Pretty awesome overall but phantom braked me every time I met a semi on the two lane portion at 65 mph. Good to know I can override with the go pedal.

    This was a great video. I like that you emphasized that you need to be in control when on AP. In addition to Tesla's warning about this, its worth noting that if you are in an otherwise "at-fault" accident while on AP, you are liable and responsible. Saying "well the car crashed itself it was on AP" is not a defense.

    Great detailed AP tutorial, thanks. One thing I missed was why you recommend a double half-press down to engage AP rather than full-down. You started to explain that during the freeway on-ramp maneuver but didn't finish. I suspect it's because you have FSD Beta and full down engages FSD while half down engages AP. Given this was a video on AP for newbies without FSD, the half-down or full-down are equivalent I think. Is that right? Another question not directly on AP: if I subscribe (or pay!) for FSD but don't request to join the Beta program then I get everything but city streets and lights, right? Cheers, S.

    This was a great video and very informative. One question I have is when the Tesla brakes on its own (or goes into regenerative braking) do the brake lights come on to notify the car behind me?

  • @DaveJackson77
    @DaveJackson77 2 года назад +3

    Great video, Cody. I keep my foot over the brake at intersections as the FSD has thrown me into the middle of an intersection (mainly ones that are not at square angles) and disengaged more than once. So I brake if I see the car acting slightly confused. It is getting better with each update.

    Excellent primer, new to Tesla and have been freaked out a few times; these tips will help. What I am struggling with most is the car not being aware. of the specificity of a the map, An example would be a 3 lane highway splitting into two, two lane highways (like an express and a local. The car really freaks out even though it knows I am going to one or the other as per the route I picked, when I am in the middle lane. I don't understand in that case with it doesn't just follow the one of the sides of the lane (right for local, left for express)

    I picked my 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD on 6/23/23 and with assistance from the Tesla Rep I paid for the FSD Monthly Subscription. I realized on my way home that the only function I received after paying $217 was semi-automatic Lane Change and nothing else. Later I noticed on the Autopilot Screen it showed "Full Self-Driving (Beta) will be available in an upcoming software release - WTF" I complained to a Tesla Rep over the phone in an attempt to get my money back 3 days later and they woul NOT. What a RIP OFF!!! When I picked up my car , the Rep never informed me of this and I am so pissed!!! FSD Beta is still NOT updated.

    Helpful tips. Thank you! You may have covered this in the video and I just missed it... is there a way to control the distance from the car in front of you while in AP? While I'm learning how to use it it makes me nervous how close it gets before the auto braking kicks in.

    It is now May 2023. OK I looked at a Tesla model Y order sheet. There is an Enhanced Auto Pilot (EAP) which is kind of what this video is talking about. To be able to use EAP we have to pay 6000 dollars. You say it is free in video which it is not.
    I think there is just a Cruise Control which is probably all that I would need and can be controlled on the steering wheel or Touch Screen. I don't need an Adaptive or Enhanced Cruise Control if it is going to cost 6000 dollars.
    If I am wrong on anything, let me know. With just basic a Cruise Control, what is the minimum speed it can be used at, because I do just regular highways, not Freeways????
    I don't have any Tesla vehicle at this time, just learning as much as I can before I decide what I want. Thanks and take care.

    Hey, just got my Tesla about 3 months ago and have looked at your videos, appreciate the knowledge an insight. I did notice one thing on Autopilot, you can only increase the cruise speed at a max of 5MPH over the speed limit on non divided highways. On the Highway you can adjust it above that. I haven't had the chance to test it, but thought maybe if you have you could verify and or put it in one of your videos at some point.
    Anyway, thought I'd share.

Question: you mean when the system brakes hard (because of phantom braking) just press the accelerator pedal quickly to get back the speed?

    I have AP/Cruise question I haven’t been able figure out since v11 interface.
    Before v11, if you wanted to adjust set speed based on your preset option you could tap the speed limit sign on the screen and it would change Max speed to your preset. Perfect example is if the speed limit changed and car didn’t automatically change speed tap the speed limit and it would change max based on your preset and the current speed. Another case is if you change it say while passing to speed up the pass. You used to be able to tap the speed limit icon and it would automatically go back to your setting. Now the only bill at I found was to use scroll wheel up or down to match the max back to what your preset is.

    • @CfTesla
      @CfTesla  2 года назад

      Sorry if I missunderstood something but are you saying that now if you tap on the speed sign it doesn't go back to your preset? If that is the case mine does and I believe it does it in thiis video.

    • @techyjames1945
      @techyjames1945 2 года назад

      @@CfTesla that is exactly what I am saying. It worked just fine prior to v11. Now the max speed no longer adjusts by tapping the speed limit sign. Now this is testing on the interstate while NoAP. I haven’t tested while in FSD in city/rural roads.

    • @techyjames1945
      @techyjames1945 2 года назад

      Actually watching another video I discovered why it don’t work for me and might work for you. I never use full screen driver visualizations. I always have it with map up. With map tapping the speed limit sign doesn’t work. Now if you have the full screen driver visualization then tapping the speed limit sign does work. This definitely feels like an UI big for it to work in one mode and not other mode.

    Watched a bunch of videos and you were the only one who somewhat mentioned how in basic autopilot the adaptive cruise control will automatically change its speed by looking for speed limit signs (even if no other cars are on the road), is that correct? So it uses the cameras or its gps map to find the speed limit and then automatically adjusts the car to that speed? (In basic autopilot)?

    • @CfTesla

    Also, my car when in autopilot, coming to a light, it comes in too fast and then brakes too hard, even with a 7 car distance set. any recommendations? ty

      Is your autopilot on FSD? If not then it doesn't work with red lights unless you're behind a car. The hard brake without FSD is probably car preventing you from an accident rather than actually braking at red.

    Great video. I do hope someone in Tesla is watching....I have the Y model 2022 in Israel. I just moved to Tesla from Volvo S90 2019. I was disappointed to find a lot of issues with the Auto Steering. Mainly if I could sum it up it feels like the design was assuming much better conditions. On the one hand you need to stay attentive but on the other hand the steering wheel will not let you nudge the car left or right in the lane or switch lanes yourself after indicating. Very forceful interaction as well including some times in which the steering wheels trys to leave the lane based on false marking on the road. The lack of pressure sensors in the steering wheel is part of it I suspect. Also the default speed when you engage adaptive cruise control is either speed limit or current speed. I find that ok for the most part but at a crawl I would use 30km/h as a default for anything under 30. Just outside my neighborhood the car "thinks" the speed limit is 110 where it's 90. Which make the car try and speed too much. I did not find the exact right combination for that. The display of the autopilot is also sometimes distracting. Jumping blue lanes jumping pedestrians and such. Too much information you cannot use. Another point - I did not find a way to disengage auto steering. Yes you could turn the steering wheel but that's really forceful and not smooth. Over all a bit of a disappointment.

    Too much about FSD. This was supposed to be about AP. Confusing

      Autopilot is an umbrella term for autosteer, NOA and FSD. Sorry you were confused

    No idea why you cannot get out of auto steering without canceling the cruise control? Yes you could force the steering wheel left or right but that jiggles the car. Not very smooth. I only have enhanced auto steering here in Israel. It's full of issues - from phantom breaking, forced speed limit(I think the system thinks it's in a dangerous road when it's not), the car bases a lot on it's ability to read speed limit signs and it makes a lot of mistakes, even though some of the signs ae quite ok. The system uses to much force to interact with the drivers asking for no assistance basically. It's as if someone assumed the car knows best. This whole premise falls apart when the road map is not updated(for roads upgraded two or more years) and when road signs or road marking are wrongly interpreted. The real issue the Telsa Y has a price point very similar to the bigger Volvo and small Mercedes, people like myself expect high premium level car when a lot of premium features are missing. The seats are sweaty, no CarPlay(yes Waze does work much better), no HUD, no why to drive left or right of center or the lane in auto steering(just wrong), too much heat coming from the large side window and front window(why no shade on the upper part of the windscreen?) and list goes on.
