This old Bus, great to have you back, looking forward to seeing the completed interior. Lots of thought went into your heating 💡👍😊, stainless shower pan☑️. Love the amount of drinking water, 125 gallons is great for one person, X-2 for two people. Happy Holidays, ✌🏻❤️ 🇨🇦.
The bald head compliments the extra meditation you’ve been doing! So glad to see you back, I’m a few weeks out from installing my heater so good timing!
Welcome back! Even though no bus builder here, really enjoy your knowledge of so many things. I too compliment you for no hat look and clean cut! Definitely sophisticated
Great ideas!! I'm just about to install my diesel heater now that the solar build is basically done. It's starting to get chilly boondocking in the desert down here in Quartzsite Arizona.
Thanks for the tip on the Bureck CD Thermostat! I have a Lavaner from your recommendation and absolutely love it. The only negative was the controller. The Burack now solves it. Awesome video, keep them coming. Marry Christmas.
Man, love that bus! I hadn't seen your interior all done. Sweet. Some great ideas with the heat/ ducting. The recirc'd air will be warmer too, increasing efficiency. Cheers ✌🏻
I like the idea of the thermostat in a fixed application like to heat your garage etc.., but for some mobile applications the stop, start cycle is where most of the electrical loads are largest and therefore it would increase your electrical load.
great point-it does draw about 15a for about 2 mins on startup before going back to normal 1-2a-that is about .5ah on a 12v system per start up which isn’t a concern for me but can also turn down the power setting of the heater and adjust the swing to minimize power loss to cycling
Hey man, been watching your videos for many years. One diesel heater that I recommend you look at is a HLN. They are a Chinese OEM manufacturer. I have installed a 2kw (genuine) in my van and it's great. It turns off when it hits temperature. Wifi thermostat remote. They are just about on par with Webasto on quality. I have been very happy with it. They do a genuine 4kw as well which all 5kw CDC'S are. I looked at a Lavaner with a Bureck or another CDH with afterburner and the HLN does everything those two combined do.
I run a 4kw _Eberspacher_ and it shuts off when it hits whatever my pre-set temp is. I made a steel tray for it to bolt on under the garage space floor so it lives in a seperate compartment and draws its air from somewhere that needs circulation. Also the ducting is oversize alloy flexi pipe that allows for free flow keeping the unit cooler. I've connected heater exhaust to the main vehicle exhaust - seems to work so far! That tight bend you have in your duct is quite restrictive and could mess up the unit long term - they need good air flow for cooling. I got rid of the standard black ducting 'cause it stinks when hot and made me paranoid about diesel leaks (similar smell) and overheating. _Cheers!_
thanks for the tips! maybe i’ll get a nice smooth bend of metal for the initial U shape. also considered adding a bypass to just let it vent straight out if it really need to heat just the cab
Cool to see new posts from you again. Saw a guy using tin cans and foil tape for ducting the other day. Looked slick and could be used for radiant heat as well. Just something I hadn't seen and wanted to share. 309 or something was the Bus I think. 🤔
Great tips, Chuck. I'd love to know more about the thermostat. What temp are you set to on these cold Dec days and how much does it shutdown and start up? I have 200aH and only charge by DC-DC. I wonder if the power draw would offset the benefit of such a device 🤔 I also plan to route my diesel heater to the cab and under the bed/onto the lithium battery because the battery and I both hate being cold. 😂
Have you installed the exhaust through hole yet?? I thought about this as well, but I'm worried about the heat of the exhaust damaging that paint. yes, I'm aware they are used on boats with little to no problem, but the exhaust on these heaters is immensely hot, at least the ones I have experience with.
What about signal interference??? If someone is parked next to you would their remotes (factory/Bureck) interfere with your heater??? The remote is a nice feature. Nice job on the ductwork.
I would like to know what brand of heat pad you used under your fresh water tank, please. I have my tank inside my trailer as I want to winter camp but don't want to leave my diesel heater on of I leave to go sking for the day and have my fresh water tank freeze if I am gone for say 8 hours in sub zero temps. Would appreciate your input as the ones I've looked at have poor reviews as to their quality.
@ChuckCassadyYT Thank you for your response. Most Utubers won't respond to viewers' questions. Just subscribed to your channel because of your willingness to respond.
Your beard is kind of cool. I wish I could grow mine out but I need to wear a tight fit face mask for work sometimes, so no luck. Sure this comment may be a bit stupid and random, but I was impressed with the diesel heater thermostat and rear view cam, so I need to help your interaction metrics.
Vevor puts puts out a 5kw diesel heater that actually does shut itself down when it reaches the set thermostat. It's very cool. We have one in the front of our bus. Unfortunately, the smaller 2kw heater in the bedroom/bathroom area doesn't do that so we have been looking at the Bureck for that one. How do you find that expandable ducting? We've heard melting horror stories about it, so have avoided it.
I have a Vevor 2kw Bluetooth version and it does have the thermostat function. Starts 2 degrees below set temp and shuts off 2 degrees above. Works great, but it does suck quite a few amps from your battery on the start sequence for the glow plug. I tend to keep it running on low which is very economical even though it overheats the space a bit when the weather is warmer
that’s good to know! does that vevor turn itself back on when the temp drops again? i used the heavier duty ducting that came with my hater for the first and hottest part of the run but i’ve had no issues with the ducting melting-bought it off the old amazon!
@@ChuckCassadyYTYes the Vevor Bluetooth heaters turn on or off for the set temp. It also has a correction factor that can be programmed into the control where the thermometer is located so you can fine tune the thermostat to the living space. It has to be the Bluetooth version of their heaters though to get the thermostatic function
We have just experienced a lack of positive control with two of these thermostats. The worked well for a day or two and then I couldn't count on them to reliably turn the heater either on or off or both. It is still a mystery. I don't have time to help with fine tuning these thermostats. Not sure if they are ready for the market. YMMV
I know you focus on school buses, but there is a huge audience waiting for you to apply your knowledge to other older RV’s. Pick up an older class C, update insulation and install a diesel heater, etc etc.
Yeah right! I mean Montana is fine and all, but give Idaho some love, as Montana stole 1/3 of Idaho simply because they got statehood before us, but they didn’t have the population they needed to become a state, so they just reached over and grabbed a bunch of Idaho and annexed it to get the population they needed for statehood…
I hope you don't run the heater with exhaust pointed at the gas meter on the house. We had house and trailer burn down here in Sacramento several years ago.
I love the This Old House vibes of these videos. 😄

only if their heater was on the same transmitter frequency as yours, which i would imagine to be unlikely

Those diesel heaters doesn't like added ductwork... They overheat and shut down. You'll need larger than stock duct work after the first....
i’ve been running this on its highest setting for up to 8 hours at a time with no issues but i’ll keep an eye out

My 8k Vevor has thermostat or manual modes. It also has Bluetooth connectivity a remote control and cost less than your thermostat.
