- Here's my cover of Dream Theater's Along For The Ride from their 2014 self-titled album. I'm playing my Music Man Majesty guitar into my Mesa/Boogie Mark V with the Line 6 Helix in the effects loop for channel switching, reverbs, and delays.
To get a full rundown of the rig I'm using, check out this video: • Line 6 Helix with Mesa... Видеоклипы
Sweet! Came on YT to see it live hoping they would show Petrucci's playing so I could get an idea about what he's doing and that's how I found you! Great job, smooth, eeezzzy playing. Loved it! Thanks, very inspiring!!!
Thanks, I hope it helped!
Still it’s the best cover on YT
Thanks!
and sound is fantastic
Great! I wanna play this song like you
Thanks! It's very achievable, just put in the practice time!
Great job!
Thanks!
Awesome maestro 😊👍
Thanks man, much appreciated
Very well played
Thanks man!
Love this cover dude.
Thanks man!
Joseph Facer Absolutely! I’ve been watching this cover since it came out! I leaned this song and realized how much technique and detail I left out after watching your cover lol!
I had learned this awhile back, but then I got the official transcription book and realized I was making a lot of things a lot harder than they needed to be. Glad it's been helpful for you!
Nice playing..i watched from indonesia bro!
Thanks!
Good Performance
Thanks for checking it out!
Very Nice Cover......
Thanks!
loved this. great sound out of that Helix set up!
Thanks! The core sound is all Mark V, but the Helix is doing all the channel switching for the amp as well as reverbs and delays and such. Nowadays I use the Helix mostly for cover band/party band gigs because it sounds good enough and is an easy load in.
really? why not incorporate some of those great effects into your own writing?
With the setup in this video, I had a pedalboard that ran into the front of the amp with a wah, volume, and a few drive pedals, then the Helix in the FX loop of the amp for all modulations, delays, and reverbs as well as acting as the hub for controlling the rig. Now I've built a new rig that's got everything in a rack controlled by an RJM Music Mastermind GT22, so I don't use the Helix as part of my big rig anymore. I'm planning on doing a video of the new rig pretty soon, and you'll be able to see what changes I've made there.
I think the Helix is a really great unit, but for the gigs I play and the sounds I want, the Helix serves me best as a standalone unit on gigs where I need a small footprint and don't have to sound my absolute best (although it obviously sounds great, I just much prefer the sound of my Mark V). It's user interface makes it extremely easy to tweak or add effects/sounds on the fly, and to have all of it in a single floor unit with an expression pedal built in works perfect for me on the cover gigs.
sound is amazing!! where did you get the backing track ?
Thanks, I'm just playing along to the original recording. I try to mix it so my playing can still be heard, but without being overbearing
nice, do you have some tabs?
I learned it by ear, then found some easier ways to play things from DT's guitar transcription book for the self-titled album. So technically yes, but not that I could share.
Brother very well played indeed! Could you share that link of the guitar transcription book. I wanted to buy that.
Not bad for a girl.
If I were a girl, I'd probably be offended by this.
