Oma is a treasure. She shares all the details - she is an excellent teacher. Thanks for sharing this nice family time in the kitchen. I lived in Germany as a child and I love sauerkraut! I will be making this recipe!

I was stationed twice, in Würzberg Germany is part of the Franconia’s region of Bavaria. My son was born there the second tour. I’m happy to find the recipe from that region for him

It's so cute -- Oma Ilse has a southern German drawl!! 😁 We had sauerkraut when I was growing up and Mom used to make it with a meat sausage of some sort and with mashed potatoes. That was good! Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you for posting this. My grandma just passed at 96. She was also from Nürnberg. I’ve been dying to try traditional authentic recipes, but her mother was the one with all of the recipes and she never wrote them down. Will try this out soon.

Vielen Dank ❤ my mother is Schwäbische and I don't know if she hated cooking it or what but her sauerkraut was horrible, sehr schlecht. It's awful in Berlin also. 😅 This looks delicious thank you Oma.❤

Surprise: I prefer to eat ' Kuehne' Sauerkraut, raw. I just reduce the vinegar by squeezing it out, delicious no meat etc just a little oil.
