Man you are the king of time capsules or queen. Sometimes I can smell what my grandmother was cooking, what the weather was and who was outside and who was visiting. Better days for sure!!
I was a kid who watched a lot of television, but I don't remember seeing this movie. I graduated from high school in 77. So, if I missed this I must have been studying for a class 😬, or out partying with my classmates 😀. Glad I finally got to see this, it was a good one. TY.
Thank you once again for your selection. I appreciate you sooooooo very much!!!!!!!! I remember when this was Billy Portrait of s street kid on television, but Ghetto Child in the movies in my school in Newark New Jersey. Hoping you and your family are well 🙏 Thank you once again for your labor be on bringing relevant information to us!!!! Blessings
I enjoyed watching the early works of Mr. Burton. He is truly a talented performer. The message in this movie is that we have to work extra harder to achieve. I am glad that the character Billys was given another chance to fulfill his dreams. We have to "Keep On Pushing"; like Curtis Mayfield, another talented artist recorded in his song. This song is a mantra to the black experience, which is to "keep on trying", even when the world's vices are trying to pull you down.
He wouldnt have had to work so hard if he hadnt given himself the setbacks.he had every opportunity right in front of him.A job, paid to attend free classes, programs for college etc. By breaking the law,not following rules, not being irresponsible by preventing a unwanted pregnancy, and basically giving up on himself ,it was self defeating behaviors that made things spiral out of control. He finally got his act together towards the end.
Back in the day when looking for a job in the newspaper was the thing to do...Lavar came into that bridal shop an was like hi😁 this was a very well written movie...
I didn't get to catch this on NBC-TV Channel 4 as a little kid back in '77 but I did later catch it on ABC-TV Channel 7 as a teenager in '84, '86 and '88
Great movie and cast .LeVar Burton just owns the screen when he appears. The struggle is real for anyone who wants to change their life and has goals. Sometimes we have setbacks from outside influences but most of Billys were his own self defeating behaviors. Im glad he finally got it together and didnt give up. Quitters never win. I just wonder why the writers removed his tooth again after he had it repaired by a dentist. Lol it just struck me as odd.
I liked Levar Burton in Roots playing Kunta Kinte. TK Carter is a good actor he played Mylo Williams on the Disney Channel. This was a enjoyable movie.
He seemed like he loved her. I think he would have done all he could. With a little education they would eventually get better jobs. One baby with two loving devoted parents they could of made it work and she could of gotten birth control to make sure they didn't have anymore. I'm sure he would have even married her if she wanted that. So sad
If there was a sequel, 10 years later, I bet he became a vet. Back then then there were very good government programs that helped disadvantaged youth/adults with skills training and college education. I was in a program myself back then!
Did not like this movie at the start but, like so many others from the period, I stuck with it and, in the end, got so much out of it. Thanks ReelBlack for posting these!! Just wish I had more background on the script, storyline, plot....
I watched this movie many years ago. I remembered some of it. A beautiful ending. Lavar Burton is an excellent actor. I like a lot if tte older movies. Thank you for sharing it.❤

Hi! I just subscribed and your content is AMAZING! Would you happen to have Roxie Roker's 1974 TV movie Change at 125th Street? Regardless love you're doing! Great great content 👍🏽🙏🏽❣️
OMG!!! Not a back alley abortion. She should have at least tried talking to her parents. I understand her being scared but it's scary enough with an actual doctor smh. The parent's might have helped after they were finished being mad. I think I can figure out the rest. I don't think I wanna see anymore. You would think if your that afraid that condoms would be a must. When I was with my first you could not have paid me not to use a condom.
Yes we do. I wish all of our children and youth would watch this. Seems like they don't believe that this didn't occur?maybe not maybe, once they are exposed to the reality of it all then they will see the truth, of course they will never agree with my opinion but this the real deal. America nor black Americans will never be together. We must understand that and im not old fashioned this is life and history. Believe it or not!
What 1978 domestic violence movie did LeVar Burton play ginny Sinclair's abusive husband and construction worker andy Sinclair way before reading rainbow?
It's amazing how movies or propaganda like the messages in this movie made you think that the many problems and extreme, generational poverty in the American Descendants of Slavery (ADOS) community were caused by our own doings; and had nothing to do with 400 years of slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, lynching, murdering, burning, terrorizing, convict leasing, peonage, lack of quality education, redlining, unfair child care laws, housing insecurities, gentrification, police brutality and shootings, welfare programs, joblessness, predatory lending practices and built-in sabotage and accrued disadvantages and oppression. No, it wasn't 246 years (1619-1865) of slavery and another 100 years (1865-1965) of Jim Crow, segregation and trauma; and still another 50 years (1965-2020) of massincarceration, school to prison pipeline, criminalization of ADOS men, continued redlining, and economic exclusion from wealth building, police shootings and injustice, etc. But that's not what destroyed the ADOS community, it was something else. Something about us; but not what was and is done to us; and we fell for this explanation. We blame ourselves for the result of things done to us by a WS society. I hope someone reads this comment after watching this movie and understands just how diabolical WS is when it comes to destroying the ADOS community. First they destroy your self esteem, then they destroy your family and community; and lastly they destroy your hope in Father YAH. Please don't buy into this propaganda. The things done in the ADOS communities were mostly perpetrated by WS as part of their plan of genocide of Father YAH’s chosen people. Don't believe the hype! Deuteronomy 7: 6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. 7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; 10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face. 11 Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them. Be blessed! Shalom!
